Cannot print PDFs in any application except Adobe

I upgraded to OS 10.5 recently (and now 10.5.1 on my laptop), and I am no longer able to print PDF files from Preview, nor am I able to produce PDF files from the printer dialog in any program. Printing PDFs in Adobe Reader works fine. Whatever other program I try to do this in crashes--TeXShop and Preview crash when I try to print a PDF document, while any program crashes when I try to produce a PDF file through the print dialog. The two computers I use are a Macbook Pro 2.0 duo core and a brand-new new iMac. The printer I use is a Brother 2030. I am able to print non-PDF documents such as .rtf files in programs such as Nisus Writer and TextEdit.
I have to print and deposit my PhD thesis very soon; help will be most appreciated. I could print it from Adobe, but the print quality is much poorer for some reason.

Do you have the old printer queue in use? This made problems in my case. Remove the queue and the printer in prefpane. Add the printer again and try out. Perhaps in your case it is a differnt problem, but you have nothing to loose.

  • Cannot print from Firefox any version to adobe pdf. Have adobe acrobat plugins 11.0.3.37 and 9.5.5.316

I cannot print any Firefox page to an adobe printer, that is, to create a pdf, even if my computer has an "adobe printer" installed and the adobe plugins are updated.
However, there is no problem if I use the "pdf it!" add-on.
Also if Firefox is already exhibiting a pdf page, the command "print" crashes the browser.
My Firefox is always updated and this problem exists since mid 2012.

HI, guys, thanks for your help, but I will try to be more precise.
    1. When I started this thread, I meant that yes I could read pdf's in firefox. I could not print ANY firefox (html) page to my adobe printer. When I command the page to be printed to adobe, I see a small window that shows the pdf being assembled, but it stops in the middle, stays locked, and firefox has to be manually crashed so that I keep working.
If, instead of commanding a print to adobe, I use the pdfit! add-on, it creates a pdf in any directory I choose, without problems. But I think I should not depend on the pdfit! because I've always used the firefox until mid 2012 (I can't remember which release)
    2. The same thing happens when Firefox is already exhibiting a pdf and I simply command File-Print. I must crash Firefox in order to keep working.
    3. When, upon your suggestion, I disabled both adobe add-ons, then when I click a link to open a pdf, I don't get an open choice, just save or cancel. It's a new ball game, besides not solving the original problem.
    4. By the way, the preference pdfjs.disabled in about:config is False.

  • (solved) No printer detected under any application except Cups browsin

    Hi everybody,
After an update I've lost all the listed printers : when I want to print, whatever the application (evince, libreoffice, epdfviewer, even firefox...) the printer list is empty.
I use cups, which is correctly running under systemd. From a browser, I can get into http://localhost:631/, define new printers, and also print page test !
I browse under my normal account, and need to switch to root account only to define new printers and for special operations (as I used to do before my upgrade).
I checked this behavior whith 2 different printers (the problem is on a EEE, so, I can move it) : both are HP (PSC 1315 which needs PSC 1310 PPD, and LaserJet 8100 which normaly goes fine).
As mentionned on the CUPS wiki page, I had to remove the foomatic packages, and even the phplip package. (I have the PPD file).
Does someone have any idea ? Thanks :-)

    In order to sumerize :
Here, I have 2 computers, with Arch, and one HP printer (PSC 1310, with USB). Both have the same packages installed, mainly cups related packages.
On the one where Cups is working, I have extract the .ppd from the right directory : /usr/share/cups/model/ and copied it to the same directory but on my EEE (the laptop where printers have disappeared after update)
Then, on the EEE, I ran cups under my browser, add a new printer with the USB I just switch from the right computer. Everything is going well, even printing a test page.
But when I want to print a document, still no printer is listed...

  • Cannot print PDF with Adobe Reader 9.4.6 ?

I cannot print PDF files using Adobe Reader 9.4.6.  OS is VISTA.   Everytime I try to print a PDF file, I receive the following message - " Before you can perform print or related tasks such as page settings or printing you need to install a printer"  I have a printer installed and can print word, excel files, etc.  Cannot print any PDF files.  Help!

Had you managed to print the same files, or are you talking about files you hadn't attempted to print? Are these PDF files forms that you are trying to fill and print in Reader?

  • Cannot print PDF file with version 11.0.10 Adobe Reader.

Cannot print PDF file with version 11.0.10 Adobe Reader.  Get error messages "This document could not be printed" and "There are no pages selected to print".  I am using a Mac OS Ver 10.0.2.  I see that this question has been asked by others recently, but no answers.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Assuming you are running 10.10.2 and not the ancient 10.0.2, can you tell us what printer and printer driver you are using? How is the printer connected to the computer (network, usb)? See if you can delete the Reader preference files? Years ago I resetting the printer subsystem would sometimes cure a problem like this.

  • After updating to Adobe Reader 11.0.07 on my iMac, I cannot print pdf forms off the web

after updating my iMac to Adobe Reader 11.0.07, I cannot print pdf forms off the Web

It would be great, if you could provide us with the following details:
    1. The OS you are working on.
    2. The version of MS Office installed on your machine.
    3. A screenshot of the error message along with the scenario in which the same is displayed.
    4. How exactly did you go about updating Reader 11.0.02 to 11.0.03. Was it via the updater mechanism or by downloading the patch from the Adobe site.
Also, it would be great if you could let us know if there was any other Windows or Antivirus related updates applied on your machine in the same timeframe as the Reader update.

  • After downloading latest Reader software (11) on my Mac (OS10.7.5) I cannot print pdf files on either of my two printers. How do I uninstall and reinstall the software?  Adobe's instructions are only for Window devices.

After downloading latest Reader software (11) on my Mac (OS10.7.5) I cannot print pdf files on either of my two printers. I suspect corrupt software.  How do I uninstall and reinstall the software?  Adobe's on-line instructions are only for Window devices.

You can just drag the file to the trash. If you want you can remove  the pdf plug-in from the internet-plug in folder, but that should not be necessary to correct your problem.

  • MY HP C1025 CANNOT PRINT PDF FILES

Whenever I print PDF Files, my PC cannot detect the newly installed CP1025 Driver.  BUT  when I print MS word and other MSOffice applications  its ok - it can detect my printer. When I print PDF Files,  it only shows my OLD OLD OLD printer epson  and the WORST is that in the dropdown menu selection - it has nothing except my old printer and it does not have a choice and it cannot detect my CP1025 prnter. An HP forum advised me to click on drop down menu - HE CANNOT  UNDERSTAND that there is NO CHOICE in the dropdown menu only  my OLD printer shows up ( which I deleted almost 8 years ago )  . WHy  the printer cannot be detected in PDF?  -  This is sooooo annoying already. TESSA SHI

Hi , I read your post and see that you can't print PDF files, the application won't let you select a different printer model. I would like to help you.
Make sure the Laserjet CP1025nw is set as the default printer in the Devices and Printers window. What application are you using to print the PDF documents? (Adobe, Website-try another browser) Try and print one page from the printer's PDF manual, to see if you have the same results.LASERJET PROFESSIONAL CP1020. Try printing the PDF as an image: Open the original PDF file, if necessary.Click File, and then click Print, or click the Print icon. The Print window opens.Click Advanced. The Advanced Print Setup window opens.Select the Print As Image checkbox, change any other settings as desired, and then click OK.On the Print window, click OK again to begin printing.Run all the Adobe Updates. Product updates. How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless) If you appreciate my efforts, please click the 'Thumbs up' button below. If you have any issues, please let me know what steps you have taken and the results. Thank You.

  • Cannot print PDF files on Mac OS X

    Hi,
since some update from Reader 8.1 to 8.1.2 I cannot print PDF files anymore. Meanwhile I installed Reader 9, but with no luck.
If I crank up the preferences I get the error "Failed to load an application resource (internal error)." ... maybe there is something wrong with the installation, but even an reinstall doesnt fix it.
If I try to print I get only the message "The document could not be printed" and then "There were no pages selected to print." ... no matter what PDF I try to print.
The Apple Preview works without any problems, so the PDFs should be good.
Can anyone help me on this ... its really frustrating.
    Best Regards
    --Michael

I had this same problem. I did a clean install of OS X 10.5.6 to an USB hard drive, installed Adobe Reader 9, and tried printing. It worked fine. Then I cloned the external drive back onto the internal drive and it failed with the same no pages selected problem.
It turns out that my filesystem on my internal hard drive is case sensitive, but the external hard drive had the default case-insensitive file system.
    To fix, do this:
Go get yourself an external firewire or usb hard drive at least as big as your internal drive. Plug it in and use Disk Utility.app (under /Applications/Utilities) to Erase it and format it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". The download CarbonCopyCloaner, a free utility that can copy an entire drive. Use CCC to clone your Macintosh HD to the external drive.
Now that you have a backup drive, go to System Preferences and choose Startup Disk. Pick the external drive as the the startup drive. Reboot and check that your printing works properly now.
If that fixed your problem, while you are booted from the external drive, use Disk Utility to erase Macintosh HD and format it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" not "Mac OS Extended (Journaled) case-sensitive". Then use CCC to copy everything back. Reboot.

  • Cannot print PDF's with Kyocera

I am using a Kyocera 5050 in my office installed as a network printer that utilizes local authorization codes for each employee in order to track printing usage. Normally, a print job will be sent to the printer and a box will pop up asking for credentials (the username and password for the printer). The printer will authorize the print job and then print it. I have one employee which cannot print PDF's from Acrobat. I tried updating the printer driver, Acrobat is up to date, and he has no trouble printing from any other application. Tried installing Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to see if it was just Acrobat, and Reader will not allow printing either. The computer will send the print job to the printer, but the printer rejects the credentials and will not print the job. No other employee has issues so it isn't a network issue, and his credentials work in any other software outside of Adobe products so I'm assuming that the issue lies within Adobe's software. Any ideas?

I we understand your posting, only one user out of a group of users printing to a particular printer requiring credential presentation is having problems printing from Acrobat. How do you conclude that “the issue lies within Adobe's software” given that the other users don't have this problem?
The particular printer, the Kyocera 5050, supports a number of page description languages, including their own emulations of PostScript and PCL. What page description language is being used? Are all the users setup with the same driver using the same page description language and the exact same driver settings?
Acrobat and Reader generate their own PostScript, bypassing the driver for that function. Drivers that attempt to put up their own dialogs (such as requesting credentials) and then try to insert commands into the PostScript stream must do so very carefully per conventions established by Microsoft and Adobe. If such commands (such as a pre-job authentication stream) are not properly inserted, then they might be put into the job in the wrong place or go missing altogether.
I would recommend checking the driver for the user experiencing the problems, making sure it is the exact same version and having all the same settings as those for users not having problems.

  • Cannot print pdf doc

After upgrading to 11.0.10 I cannot print PDF. I've got 2 boxes: The document cannot be printed and There were no Pages selected.

I think we need to know what Sibleyfam is using as a PDF reader. I have had difficulties printing PDFs using Adobe Reader to various HP LaserJets but if I open the files using Preview they print without any problem at all. Right-click or Control-click on the PDF icon and select the Open With option... then slide across to the available applications and select Preview... if, of course, the document was opening in Adobe Reader previously. If it won't print from Preview it could be a postscript error generated by a bad font in the PDF. Opening the file in Photoshop or similar so you are, effectively, rasterizing the font data may solve the problem if a dodgy font is the issue. Converting the file to Postscript should also produce the same fix though I just 'printed' a PDF as a .ps file and the text was still selectable making me think that the font problem (if it is this) will not disappear after the conversion.
I hope this helps eliminate something even if it doesn't solve your problem.

  • Adobe v9 on W7 and office 2007. cannot create PDF from MS word using Adobe. But can from Excel, PPT

Adobe v9 on W7 and office 2007. cannot create PDF from MS word using Adobe. But can from Excel, PPT and other MS office apps. Reinslalled Adobe, updated Office, and Adobe no help! Also I can create a pdf from the MS Word and it is using the Adobe 9. So one would think that's good. No it isn't when you need to combine different files to one big PDF document. Any suggetions? Thank you

Yes, I’m saying that I can in WORD use “Save As ADOBE pdf” but cannot in ADOBE create a pdf file from a WORD (.doc or .docx) document. While I can from other MS Office apps like Excel and PowerPoint.
I understand I can use “work around” and save doc in WORD as pdf then compile all files needed (xml, ppt, pdf) in the ADOBE v9. to one big pdf document. But that is not the point of this post.

  • Acrobat Distiller 9 Error - Cannot Print PDF

When I try to print PDFs from any browser or piece of software, try to open Distiller directly, or even scan to PDFs, I receive the following error:
Unable to create the temporary folder.
Error: 5 - Access is denied.
I have had no problems until Monday with this.  I did not install any new software.  I have done the following:
Scanned the computer for Malware (Malwarebytes) - 0 threats found
Scanned the computer for regular virus/registry issues (AVG 2013) - 0 threats found
Repaired Acrobat 9 PRO installation - no change
Rebooted multiple times - no change
My computer runs Windows 7 64-bit, and I have Adobe Web Premium CS5 (which comes with Acrobat 9 PRO).  I currently do not have access to the installation discs, as I just moved.

jlk2011 thanks, I found your thread, and it worked!  I'm sharing what I did here and then closing the thread.
By holding the Windows key and R down, I typed %TEMP% into the Run field and hit Enter.
I found a temp folder name Acrobat Distiller 9.  I deleted the folder.  I then created a new folder with the same name, and I was immediately able to print PDFs again.  The issue was resolved.
