Cannot print through Airport Express

I have an iMac and my wife has an airbook.  I am trying to use an Airpot Express for printer sharing.  The printer (HP J6480) works fine from USB port but nada when I plug into AE.  Any suggestions?

A printer connected to a Mac's USB port and the same printer connected wirelessly may as well be two different printers, as far as the Mac is concerned.
Create another entry for the AirPort Express - connected printer in System Preferences.
AirPort Utility 6.x: Use a USB printer on your Wi-Fi network
AirPort Utility 6.x: If your USB printer isn't responding
Your HP J6480 is an "all - in - one" device. Not all of them work with the Express's USB port. Only the print function will work, if at all.

  • No colors when printing through AirPort Express?

I knew I couldn't use all the features (e.g. scanning) of my HP all-in-one printer F2180 through AirPort Express instead of USB. But is it normal I can't print in colors? Can it be fixed?

I am having the same problem. I am running an AirPort Extreme to a HP Deskjet F4180.
I spent two weeks on the phone and email with HP and they finally told me that it was a problem with Apple.
I just got off the phone with Apple support and they told me it is a driver issue which they have no control over. They told me to see if somebody in this forum had a work around or to search the web for a generic driver that "may" fix the problem.
If I find an answer I will let you know.
    Good luck!!

  • Can I Print Through Airport Express With A Lexmark x5150?

Am I able to print through A.E. with my Lexmark X5150 All-in-one? I'm having issues. It's recognized by my laptop, but won't print through A.E. It does, however, print when the USB is plugged into my lBook directly. I think I have the latest drivers installed. Can anyone offer up any suggestions/help? Thanks in advance......

The Lexmark X5150 is not on the list of supported printers found at http://www.efelix.co.uk/tech/1013.html . Based on your findings, I suspect this printer just won't work with anything but a direct connection to your Mac's USB port.
Not many all-in-one printers are supported for connection via an Airport Express. For those few models that do work, only printing is possible - other functions like scanning won't work. For some all-in-ones, an alternative driver can be found that will at least support printing - but I cannot find any alternative driver that will work with the x5150.

  • Wireless printing through Airport Express stops after a few pages

I have a Canon MP780, which I tried hooking up to my Airport Express USB. Installation seemed to work smoothly with the Airport Utility, and it printed a test page just fine. However, when I printed a longer document, something kacked after a few pages (a communications error).
Hooking it up is a hassle (have to go through a wall to get to the AE/DSL modem setup), and I ripped it apart after upgrading the canon drivers to no avail. I'll try it again to get the exact error messages if there's more than a snowballs chance in hades that this might work, but thought I'd at least find out if it's hopeless or not before throwing more time at this.
    Any help's appreciated... many thanks.

There has been similar posts on this forum regarding wireless stability. A few have indicated that there printing was fine until the recent Airport Client Update 2009-002. If you check your System Prefs > Software Update > Installed Software list, have you also run this update?

  • Why does my mac say "failed to connect to the device" when I try to print through airport express?

So a little back ground.  I have a unibody 2 ghz core 2 duo running 10.5.8 and a mac book air running 10.7.5.  I set a airport express and added a new printer to both computers using bonjour.  My mac air has no problem connecting and printing but my unibody does.  The "failed to connect to device" message come up after I open print que for that printer and then utility.  It unibody sees the printer through bonjour and installs the printer but when asked to connect, nothing happens.  can anyone help please?

If you updated from a previous version of OS X to 10.9 and had an older version of driver installed, then you can get this message. Sometimes a quick fix is to reset the printing system. Note that this action will remove all devices from the Printers & Scanners preference pane, but not the supporting drivers, so if you do have other printers or scanners on this Mac you will have to add them again.

  • Cannot print via AirPort Express

I bought Airport Express a few days ago and have connected the ethernet cable and have wi-fi running. However I cannot print wirelessly (the printer is connected to AirPort Express via USB) and everytime I try it fails to locate the printer. This is because the settings are old (I used to hav my iMac as a base station but now the printer is not connected to the iMac and is now connected to AirPort Express). Could somebody tell me how I can fix this problem.
    Thank you in advance

Thomas I did find this on HP's Web site. But beside this you may want to look for other (GIMP printer drivers that may accomodate the wireless compatibility).. HP does state:
Is my All-in-One product supported via the Rendezvous/Bonjour protocol?
NOTE: Bonjour is the new protocol for Mac OS X v10.4.
    ANSWER:
HP does not offer support for any All-in-One product via Rendezvous/Bonjour, however some products might work when plugged into an Airport Basestation via USB. These products might work with the print functionality only. See the list below for such products.

  • Has anyone figured out how to print through Airport Express with Vista?

My wife has Vista on her laptop and everytime we try printing through the Airport Express/Bonjour it doesn't work. It might print one page and then stop, but never any further.
    The latest Bonjour is installed.
    Is there anything else?

Was this printer ever at one time connected to the Vista PC directly ? also with Vista ive seen issues with bonjour printers. Its due to either the firewall of this new junk they added in called windows defender. This application ive seen various results from it like it thought my install of Gears of War was a virus and etc. One thing you could even try doing is turn off the windows firewall and see if this resolves this issue. Seeing as this computer is behind a "hardware" firewall such as a router anyways you wouldnt really need to have the firewall on unless you had a strong need for the extra security

  • Printing through Airport Express with 10.5.8

A few months ago I upgraded the old iBook G4 to 10.5.8 It's worked fine if a little slow on this old Mac. Now I'm trying to get my printer hooked up to the airport express for wireless printing. It's working for my wife's iBook with 10.4.11 but I can't get mine to work. I see the printer. It says it's ready. I hit print and the item shows in the printer que and then disappears off into the void. But the printer doesn't even twitch!
I just got the latest driver for the Epson CX7000f and that made no difference.
I've looked at airport utility, my system preferences for print & fax. I've read through a bunch of printer problem posts. 10.5.8 does seam to be a common theme.
Has anyone cracked this nut yet?
    Thanks, Hugh

Just to check through the process:
You've connected your printer to the USB socket on the Airport Express.
Go to System Preferences>Print & Fax. If your Epson shows in the list I should highlight it and click the '-' button below the list.
Now click the '+' button. You should see your printer listed, and in the 'Kind' column it should say 'Bonjour printer'. Select it, change the name if you need to, and check that the drop-down menu shows the correct driver. Click 'Add'. Back in the first preference pane, check that it shows as the Default Printer.
Click 'Open Print queue' and check that it says 'Printer Ready'.
Close these panes. Now turn the printer on and try printing: any luck? (I might add that there isn't any general problem with 10.5.8, I can print to an HP and a Canon this way.)

  • Cannot print through Airport after 7.3.1 update

Before the 7.3.1 update, I had no problems printing from a PC to my Epson printer connected to the USB port on my Airport Extreme n. After the update, I cannot print at all.
The Epson is seen in the Airport Utility.
I can install the printer using Bonjour or through the Windows setup method (previously described). The printer appears in the Windows Printers and Faxes and shows a ready status. When I try to print a test page, I get a communication error and no printing.
I have un-installed and re-installed but nothing works. I have deleter all TCP/IP ports from the printer ports section to eliminate the possibility of duplicate ports possibly causing a problem. I have restarted the entire system and then re-installed the printer using Bonjour. Same result. Printer appears showing a ready status but I still get a communication error.
Has anyone been able to overcome this problem? Does Apple make the previous firmware available for re-flashing?
    Thanks

Well, the downgrade to 7.2.1 did not seem to work. There is a communication problem somewhere.
My MacBook Pro will print normally (before and after the upgrade). Bonjour for Windows does see the Epson printer and it appears to install it normally. If the printer is disconnected, Bonjour does not see it. So Bonjour is seeing the printer.
After the printer installs on the WinXP machine (connected directly through the ethernet port on the airport extreme n) is shows ready. However, if the printer is disconnected from the airport, winxp still shows ready.
It seems that Bonjour properly sees the printer, but is not setting up the TCP/IP correctly. I have tried ports 9100, 9101 and 9202 for manual adjustments All to no avail.
I have tried manually seeing it up using the Epson drivers and generic postscript drivers. Neither configuration works. Connecting the Epson printer directly to the winxp machine works fine. And again, it worked prior to the update.
What the heck did Apple do? And has anyone with a similar problem fixed it? I really don't want to go back to a separate print server. But I need something reliable and Airport Extreme apparently is not it. At least this version of he firmware.

  • Getting an Error:-9672  when trying to add printer through airport express

Hi everyone, I have a canon colour laser printer (LBP5000) works fine when I pop the usb straight in to the mac, but when I try setting it up by plugging the usb into my airport express I get an Error:-9672 this happens when setting up the printer in print & fax system prefs.
I have another printer set up on a different airport express, which works fine.... could this be a problem?
    Any help would be great
    Thanks
    Lee

    Hello Lee,
When you select the LBP5000 in the Printer Borwser > Default Browser view, the Print Using menu should automatically set. If it isn't, and you are having to manually set the printer, then that will be a likely cause for the error (which usually occurs when the wrong driver is selected).
Try turning off the Airport Express and the printer. After a few seconds turn the printer on first and after it finishes making it's warm up sounds, turn on the Express. Now try to add the printer via the Default Browser view.
If that doesn't help, check your Airport Express firmware version. Some previous postees have found that their problems are resolved by updating their firmware on their Airport Extreme/Express.
    Regards,
    Paul

  • Cannot print via airport express - mac novice

I have an ibook g4 running tiger 10.4.2 OS. i recently got an airport express which i connected to my cable modem and an HP PSC 1350 printer. beautiful!..however, i subsequently connected my stereo and can no longer print to that printer. when a job is sent to the printer the status icon pops up on the dock, but eventually i get the dreaded red exclamation point and a 'job stopped' message when i view the printer status. the printer works when connected directly to my ibook. i ve tried everything i can think of--resetting the base station, changing security types, deleting/re-adding the printer, using different drivers, , disconnecting the stereo, even 2 hours with applecare after which they told me 'sorry dude'. i checked the unofficial list of printers that are compatible with airport express and the hp 1350 is on there. can anyone help? this is my first mac and everything has been GREAT so far except this issue. i just cant figure this one out..

  • After iTunes update, cannot play through Airport Express

I've had this problem a few times.
You've updated iTunes and you can see your remote speaker(s) within the program, but when you attempt to stream to them, you'll get an error saying that there was a probelm connecting to your remote speakers. No amount of resetting or reconfiguring your Airports will fix it. Don't waste your time doing that.
A good check to show that your network \ airport is healthy, is if you have an iPod Touch you can stream right from there to your Airport Express. That will let you know that the problem lies somewhere on your computer.
You are most likely having this problem because of the Windows Firewall. A quick check is to disable your Windows Firewall, then launch iTunes and try to stream. If that works, you've found your problem. Reenable your firewall.
.....But wait. I checked my allowable programs, and iTunes.exe is allowed to pass? What gives? Well, the firewall is trying to make the console simple, and only lists the program as itunes.exe. Apparently, the firewall is looking at much more than just the process ID of itunes.exe. When the rule was set up, it likely also identified the allowable process by noting the time\date stamp or a hash of the file. During your upgrade, the filename stays the same, but the rest changes, and the windows firewall won't allow it to pass.
To fix this, delete the existing rule allowing itunes.exe to pass. Once that's done, you can recreate the rule using your new itunes.exe file. Now that it's allowing your new .exe to pass through the firewall, you can now play to your remote speakers again. Yeah, you don't HAVE to delete the old one, but it's a lot cleaner. If you don't delete the old, you won't know which is the "good" one if you ever have to troubleshoot at a later date.
I hope this helps. It drove me a touch nuts for a bit until I realized what was going on. Now it's part of my routine whenever I update iTunes.

I have configured and re-configured my Airport Express, but I can't get it to receive music from iTunes.
iTunes does recognize presence of Airport Express (named "Stereo Cabinet").
However, when I select "Stereo Cabinet" in the pulldown menu, all I get is reduced volume output through my computer speakers... not through the stereo system hooked up the to the Airport Express.
I've had this problem for months... posted here some time ago, but got no response.
I am running 10.6.2 on an Intel Core duo Macbook laptop. This function used to work just fine, and I can't figure out why it no longer does. I think I had the same trouble under 10.5... but my attempts to figure it out were only sporadic (busy life, you know?).
    Can anyone help?

sorry if i ask the obvious but have you enabled airtunes like so ?

  • Ipad printing through airport express base

Hello, I'm a new ipad user and I have been trying to print from my iPad to a USB Epson printer connected to an Airport express base. The printer is well connected to the home network since I can print from any computers on the home network. The two iPads we have don't see the printer. When we try to print, the iPad searches for a few seconds then gives an error message about printer not being seen.
I know that my printer is not in the compatible list of airprint printers but from I have read, a USB printer can be connected to an Airport Express base and it does the same, unless this is not usable on an iPad. Will I have to buy a new airprint printer or a solution exists?
    Thanks for the help.
    S Dufort

This link - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356. provides a list of "air print compatible" printers.
Want to print from your iPad, but don't have an air print compatible printer?  Check out the applications available from the iTunes store.  Simply launch iTunes on the computer and select iTunes Store, or launch the iTunes Store from your iOS device.  Search out the key words "iPad Printing".

  • Can't connect to internet through Airport Express anymore

Suddenly, my PowerBook can't connect to the internet through Airport Express. Monday late afternoon--everything was fine. Put it in sleep, come back a few hours later, can't connect.
Thing is, Airport/wireless is working. Can stream audio to my home stereo.
And the DSL/modem are working. If I connect the machine via ethernet directly, I'm online.
Saw that some other users began having problems with USB/printer connections Monday. Could my problem be related?
    What gives?
    Any ideas?

Hello mnkyby. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It sounds like your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) in not getting a proper IP address from your modem.
    Try this ...
o Connect to the AX's wireless network, and then, run the AirPort Admin Utility.
o Go to the Internet tab.
o Note the value for IP address. (Note: Do not list it here on the forum, just note what it is.)
o Is the IP address what you would expect from your ISP or is it something like: 196.254.x.x?
If the latter, try the following ...
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    o Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, AX, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, AX, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)

Have run through all settings repeatedly and as I said I can get it to work briefly by resetting and then reconfiguring, but after a short while again my iOS devices can no longer connect and revert to cellular.

My network is created by an Airport Extreme (ground floor) and extended by a Time Capsule (first floor)
The issue is most likely due to the fact that the AirPort Express may be too far from the AirPort Extreme to properly extend it with enough bandwidth to be useful.
It is important to understand that with Apple 802.11n or 802.11ac base station an extended network works in a wheel-like fashion with the base station to be extended at the hub and each extending base station along one of the spokes. This type of configuration does not allow for daisy chaining the base stations. That is, in your case, both the Time Capsule and AirPort Express are attempting to extend the AirPort Extreme.
Each extending base station must be within a certain signal quality range in order to extend the network properly. Please check out the following AirPort User tip for details.
