Cannot print to or connect to Windows-driven imagesetter

Our print shop uses an ABDick DPM34 HSC imagesetter that is run from a Windows 2000 RIP for making plates for offset printing. I usually send the files to the platemaker using a Mid 2012 Mac Pro 12 core running 10.8.2. On Tuesday (3-19-13) I sent a bunch of print jobs to the RIP – everything working fine as usual. The next day, Wednesday the 20th, I needed to resend a redo job and the print job would stop on a "Hold for Authorization." The job would not authorize using the regular account/password or the Guest account. I can no longer mount the shares for the Windows computer, as well. It shoes up in Finder window sidebar but the login window will only shake when given the correct account/password or the Guest account. Any other computer in our shop (running 10.7.5 or below) can print and connect to it. I can not fathom what has changed from Tuesday to Wednesday that would cause this. The only software that was installed between this period according to the About This Mac System Report were virus definitions. I have tried various remedies from various threads including checking that the clocks on the two machines were in sync, trying to connect through Connect to Server and the Terminal, resetting the printers (but now I can't readd the printers since it won't authorize my connection to the computer), reinstalling ML (I had since upgraded to 10.8.3 – no help – and the reinstall installed the same version when I was hoping it would start over at 10.8), and trying to connect through ethernet, WiFi and directly into the Windows machine. I'm at a loss and any leads would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Try opening Keychain Access and removing the entry that you had saved for this connection to the Windows box. Then try adding the printer again or connecting to the shared folder.
FYI - If you enable LPR/LPD (could be called Unix Print Services in Win2k), then you can use LPD on the Mac instead of SMB. With the print service enabled on the Win2k server, on the Mac you add the printer by selecting the LPD protocol, entering the Win2k name or IP address in the Address field and the shared printer name in the Queue field. The last step is to select the appropriate printer model in the Use menu.

Try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:

  • Haelp! cannot print over wireless connection

I just set up a wireless network in our house, with a 2Wire 1701HG gateway (wifi plus ethernet.). I have a Brother neworkable laser printer, connected to the wireless router via an ethernet cable.
When I have my iBook also conected by ethernet cable, I can print, no problem. But when I am connected by wireless, when I try to print it always says "AppleTalk inactive," even though when I go to the the Network Preference panel it says it is active!
The long and the short of it is I cannot print via wireless connection. What do I need to do to remedy this situation?
    Thank you!!!!

This snippet is from the Tiger printing help area. I had similar difficulties and it worked for me:
Delete and recreate the printer queue
    1. Open Printer Setup Utility (10.3) or Print Center (10.2).
    2. Delete any queues for the printer model you have.
    3. Add a new queue, and choose Bonjour (formerly "Rendezvous"). It should locate and show the printer attached to the base station.
    Good luck!

  • Cannot print from ibook on a windows network

I have a new iBook that is linked to my Linksys Wireless Cable Gateway. On the same network, my Windows XP desktop with attached Epson Stylus Photo R220 is attached.
I have enabled sharing for that printer via the desktop PC.
I located the printer, "EpsonSty", on my iBook but when I attempt to print to it, it gives me two errors.... the first is a denied NT access message and later, something about not being able to print to Samba.
Is there an easy fix so I can print to my Epson from my iBook via the network?

  • Cannot print from internet connection

For several weeks now, I've been unable to print pages from the net. I can print documents in hard drive programs just fine (Word, Excel, etc.), but whenever I try to print from the net, it loads up the printer pane, but there's nothing to preview and pressing print does nothing.
It used to work just fine. I've tried to figure out if I loaded anything on here a few weeks back that might've affected it and the only program I added was an updated version of Quicktime to allow me to rotate movies.
We can print from our other Mac which is linked to mine.
    What should I be checking?
    TIA

Hi ! Welcome to the HP Forums, and thanks for posting. I understand you are having some wireless communication issues with your HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One series after restarting your modem. I'd love to help you with this. The first thing I would recommend doing would be to do a network power refresh. When the signal to the router or modem is interrupted, the printer will often lose connection without giving any signs of it.Let's leave the router on and unplug the power cable (NOTE: Do not reset the router.), then do the same with the printer, and shut down the computer. After a full minute, plug the router back in, wait for it to fully power up, then plug the printer back in and wait for the wireless light to become solid. Once both the router and printer are on, go ahead and turn the computer back on. Doing this will refresh the network connection. Once everything is back on and running, is the blue wireless light on your printer on and solid? Or is it blinking? If it is blinking it means that it is searching for a network connection and is unable to connect. If the light is blinking, I would suggest following these steps to reconfigure your printer on your wireless network:Setting Up the Printer for a Wireless network for the HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One and HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3520 e-All-in-One Printer Series If the wireless light is on and solid, try printing from the iPad and iPhone again (you may need to restart these devices as well for them to work). Hope this helps! Please respond to let me know if this resolved your issue.

  • Cannot Print Screen and paste to Windows Paint

    Hi
I try to do screen capture and paste it to Windows Paint, it did not work on Windows 10.
    How come?
Is this a software bug from Windows 10.
I try many times it does not seems to work at all!

Hitting <print screen> (to capture the entire desktop) and using <alt>+<print screen> (to capture a single window) to paste into MSPAINT (and Photoshop) worked perfectly using Windows 10 Technical Preview for Enterprise.
You do have another alternative, however.  The built-in snipping tool is great and works wonders.  Just type snip in the Windows search bar.

  • Cannot print wirelessly - HP Officejet 6700 Premium

I have had no problem printing wirelessly for over a year.  The last few days, I have been unable to print from Windows 7.  From the printer, the wireless connection looks good and I can print a test page.  I can ping the IP address from my computer and I can print a test page  from the printers web page.  But when I try to print from word, notepad or any other web page, it shows the correct printer and IP address, the print goes into the print queue and disappears.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @howtoprint
I read your post about how you cannot print from programs on your Windows 7 computer however, can print from the embedded web server page.
I would suggest running the Print and Scan Doctor. This diagnostic tool will check for any conflicts that could be causing the issue. The tool will show you a report at the end. If there was a problem that the tool could not fix, you will notice it in the results.
    Try printing again afterwards.
If that does not work, try Uninstalling the Printer Software, restarting the computer, and reinstalling the printer.
Good luck, I hope this helps

Mac Book Pro 13'' Mac OS 10.6.4, windows 7 hosting a Deskjet F370 (F300 series) and there is NO WAY i can print from the mac to the windws connected printer.
    1- Printing sharing enabled,

4- file sharing works via SMB like a charm,
    5- password protected sharing disabled.
I think i'm not forgetting anything. When I try to add the printer in my mac -
    Sys pref > Print&fax > add > advanced > method 1: LPD/LPR > lpd://IP/ShareName
method 2: Windows > smb:// > I always select the driver F300 from the list (no gutenprint available). Finally the printer is added to the list after a long wait, but it doesn't work in any way. Please......help, thanks!

    Hi
I install the three packages in the website you provided and tried again with the new driver, i still cannot print.
Somehow i found two print jobs in the Window's queue, couldn't print them, i thought they belonged to the new driver session, but since i coulnd't get to add new jobs in the queue again i don't know anymore, In the mac i've tried it as a registered user and guest, no difference, it asks for password, i provided it and it keeps waiting for authentication (On hold, authentication required), i even removed the password from my administrator account in windows and nothing.
if i go to job info in the mac it tells me among other things:
    Status: On Hold (Authentication required)
Job message: Session setup failed: NTSTATUS_INVALIDPARAMETER
    Don't know what to do.

  • Cannot print from Windows 7 to shared HP cp1160 on XP machine

I am adding a Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit laptop (HP ProBook 4510s) to my home network. There is already an XP machine there with a shared USB printer (HP cp1160) which is in regular use from XP and Vista laptops on the network. I've attempted to add it to the new Windows 7 machine (the wizard found it and downloaded the driver from the XP machine) and I then tried to print a test page. I can see the test page being spooled (when I See what's printing - though I notice that it is shown with owner Guest). But if I look at the print queue on the XP machine, nothing ever appears there. Eventually, the queue clears at the Windows 7 machine as well - but nothing comes out of the printer!
I have tried browsing to the printer, right-clicking and selecting Connect, but this makes no difference.
So then I tried connecting the printer locally, having first checked that the printer is listed as Windows 7 compatible - it is, and says that no extra drivers are required. Yet when I plug it into a USB port on my Win7 pc, it tries to install the USB printing support (successfully) and then says that it cannot find a driver for the HEWLETT-PACKARDcp1160 device (but I thought it didn't need one?)! The Event Log contains the following entry:
    EventData
       4545305
          5
          PnPDriverNotFound
          Not available
          x86
          USBPRINT\HEWLETT-PACKARDcp1164C70
I notice that the Properties of the hp cp1160 printer on the XP box has Additional Drivers accessible from the Sharing tab, and this lists additional drivers that users can download automatically when they connect. There is only one checked entry there: Intel, Windows 2000 or XP - is this adequate to allow Win7 clients to share the printer (note the x86 in the Event log entry above, though it isn't clear if that might be the driver-type being sought)?
Has anybody else encountered/resolved this problem? If so, how?!
    Will

With the aid of Windows Restore, I was able to step back to a time before I had attempted to connect to the HP cp1160 on my XP machine.  The following sequence must be followed to connect to the printer successfully:
Connect the printer directly to a USB port on the Windows 7 laptop. Windows 7 recognises the printer, connects to Windows Update and installs drivers for it – Print Test Page proves that this has worked.
Now disconnect the printer, and reconnect it to a USB port on the networked XP machine.
Select Start/Devices and Printers and click on the menu item “Add a printer” – allow the wizard to find the shared cp1160, or enter its share name (eg. \\my_XP_box\hp cp1160). The connection is made and no new drivers are downloaded from the XP machine. Bring up the Properties dialog for the printer and use Print Test Page to prove that a satisfactory connection has been made.
Note that if you don’t perform Step 1 above, then a set of drivers is downloaded from the XP machine (and saved in \windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3) which doesn’t work! I imagine these must be the drivers for NT/XP/Vista.  There then appears to be no way to persuade Windows 7 to download the correct set.
Now I just need to find out how to get Windows 7 to use the duplex mode of the printer - it isn't shown as an Installable Option on the Printer Properties, Device Settings dialog.
    XP was never this difficult!

  • After upgrading to 10.6 I cannot use AppleTalk to connect to my HP LaserJet 4ML printer.

After upgrading to 10.6 I can no longer use AppleTalk to connect to my HP LaserJet 4ML printer. So I am now using a JetDirect 300X box connected to the parallel port of the printer and an ethernet cable into my Linksys router. But I have had no luck with this setup. I was able to get a printout from the JetDirect box that gave me the IP address of 184.35.129.151 which I tried using in the printer setup dialog box. No luck. My ethernet network IP is 192.168.1.100, so I tried putting in 192.168.1.2, etc. and 192.168.1.151 (151 being the JetDirect IP address). Still no luck. When I do the printer setup it seems to be finding the printer but when I try to print it cannot connect. I have also tried putting the ethernet cable from the JetDirect box directly into the other rear port on my MacPro. No difference.
The HP website clearly says that this printer can be connected to a Mac using the JetDirect box. But the configuration page that I printed out from the printer doesn't say anything about IP addresses and there is nothing in the manual about IP connection. Do I need to find the IP address of this printer, and how do I find that?
I would really like to continue to use this printer. Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry about that. Let's see what we can do. Take a look at this site:
    http://www.mikestechblog.com/joomla/networking-section/network-printing-category /52-how-to-configure-an-hp-jetdirect-300x-print-server.html
It's to set up on a Windows PC but just get an IP address at step 8. Then access the JetDirect's admin area using the IP address. Make the address fixed so your router cant change it. Then using System Preferences>Print & Fax you need to add the printer using the IPP protocol. If the IPP protocol doesn't work then try the HP JetDirect.
It's been a while since I had my HP LJ4MP set up that way so my memory is a bit fuzzy on it. Once you get it - it works. The only other thought is to get a cable with a 25 pin on one end and USB on the other.

  • Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network

Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network.
My Mac runs lion and the windows desktop runs Windows XP
I have tried for a few hours or so to connect my mac to this printer over a home network.
For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.
If there is no soultion could I have help getting the drivers for a Dell All-in-One Photo 926

In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

  • Adobe 9.5.5 cannot print in windows 7

I can open the PDF attachments in Windows 7 but I cannot print them. The error message says no documents sent.  I can print anything else with no problem so the printer is connected to the computer just fine.

It does sound like a driver issue, but if youve tried the latest driver then theres a couple of other things to try.
I've checked the hp support site and on the drivers page there is also a hp print diagnostics tool under the apps section for your printer. I tried running this and it has quite a few things it checks (connection, spooler, driver etc) and gives a few tips on how to resolve the issue if it finds any.
Not sure if this will get you any further forward as some of these tools arent always the best at resolving issues.
The other thing I would try after that would be to change the driver manually to another different HP printer.
This would only be to test the driver, and you can revert back after.
To do this, go into your devices and printers page, right click on your printer, choose printer properties, then go to advanced in the next page that appears.
Here you will see the current driver that your printer is useing with an option for a new driver.
If you select new driver then you'll get the add driver wizard, and on the next page you will have a list of manufacturers and printers to choose from, go to HP and choose something like HP business inkjet 1000, go to next, then finish. then try to print (it may all come out garbled if it prints, and print endless pages) if it does this then turn off your printer, remove the paper and it shouldnt print anything else after you turn it back on.
You will also want to use the previous steps to revert back to the driver that it should be after testing it like this.
You can also use this to re-install the driver manually.
And when you updated the driver, did you delete the previous printer that wasnt working, or let it update over the top? as it may have carried over whatever was causing your issue.

  • CP1025nw losing network print connection in Windows 8

In windows 8 with the latest drivers and firmware installed, the printer will setup and print just fine once. Then will just hang each print job in the queue each time after. If I turn off the printer and turn it back on, it works again. I've tried connecting a network cable and setting it up wirelessly with the same response.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver. Printing via cell phone or ipad works seamlessly. This printer worked fine using ePrint before installing the recently released win8 drivers. Please fix drivers ASAP!

Similar problem, maybe this info will overlap/help
I have a new HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus installed on two fairly new Windows 8 laptops wirelessly.
Similar symptoms on both (one is a Dell 17R, other is a Toshiba Ultrabook Z930).
Printer works fine, printing submitted jobs.
Then sometime during day it inevitably stops working mysteriously.
When it is in the broken state, I have walked to the printer and confirmed the printer is still connected/has its wireless IP. And the printer works fine printing from my iPhone or iPad.
But on Windows 8 at a command prompt I cannot ping the printer's IP address 192.169.0.11.
If I reboot the Windows 8 pc, or just wait a few hours, the printer comes back online and everything in the printer queue just prints out.
If I browse the internet wirelessly, that works also.
But I cannot seem to find a simple recipe for getting the PC out of the broken state (short of rebooting) or any way of preventing it getting into that state in the first place.
I suspect that the wireless connection is flakey, going down a few times per day. I have confirmed that the ADSL connection drops occasionally by looking at logs. That shouldn't drop the intranet/local wireless connection but maybe it does briefly. Even so, the wireless is set to auto reconnect and usually does. But occasionally I observe the wireless is disconnected and have to click to reconnect... no idea why the auto reconnect doesn't happen.... but in that case, it sometimes (but not always!!) leads to the printer coming online and service resuming.
As an example, a short while ago this happened and the wireless claimed to still be connected but a ping 192.168.0.11 failed. Yet I was able to browse the internet using the same wireless connection. And the printer worked from my iPhone. Then a few minutes later, everything went back to working and now I can also ping the printer. Usually when it goes offline, however, it takes many hours to get service back. Or I can reboot if impatient and that always makes it work. [This applies to both the Dell and the Toshiba].
The oddest part of this is that the iPhone wireless connection to the printer never falters.
Perhaps there is something wrong with the Windows 8 wireless reconnecting infrastructure, because one can't expect the printer driver to make it work when a ping fails. [When the printer is online the ping always works].
So not necessarily pointing at HP printer driver as the problem, but since it's a frustrating printer problem, I'm hopeful someone reading this forum can point me in a useful direction.
