Cannot print to plain paper in iPhoto (or iTunes)

Just installed a new printer - HP PSC 1510.
Works fine except that if i decide to print a test page in iPhoto (b4 using costly photo paper) or a simple CD insert in iTunes, the paper type options for plain or automatic are greyed out & cannot be selected.
In all other applications they appear!
Has anyone had the same problem & do you know a solution?

Thanks for that. Unfortunately even if I select this when you check the Paper type details under the Advanced tab still overide this. Must add that this wasn't the case with my HP PSC 1210, must be the age of the driver?

Could you provide the community with a little more information to help narrow troubleshooting? What operating system are you using and are you recieving any errors or just blank prints?

CM1312 always produces "glossy" prints on plain paper

I have a networked CM1312nfi. I print on plain paper, 24 lb. When printing in colour, the areas of the page containing colour always appear to have a semi-glossy sheen on them. (This occurs whether printing from Windows XP or Mac OS X 10.6.) Is this normal, to be expected? In contrast, when printing on an HP 4700dn at work, there is no sheen at all.
Is there a way to control this? My properties specify that I am printing on plain paper. If it is expected on this printer, why the difference with the 4700?

Tweak color profile when printing on plain paper?

If Im unhappy with the colors when printing on plain paper, can it be changed?
..this is on a five cart Photosmart Premium c410a that uses 564 tanks.
In particular, yellow is too dark, a bit "orangy" and photos are a bit weird: sky looks slightly smoggy brown.
In other words my question is if its possible to tweak the color profile the HP driver uses when printing using plain paper -- for daily use.

Have you found a solution to this? I'm wondering if the same can be done for the photo prints as well...when I print photos, they turn out darker and have a purple-hue to them. Please let me know, I look forward to hearing from you.

OfficeJet 6500a cannot print on green paper

We purchased an HP OfficeJet 6500a Plus this morning. Installation went smoothly and the printer has been working well.
However, a couple of hours ago we ran into a problem printing on green paper. The printer picks up the paper, but says it is the wrong size or type (mismatch size or type error message).
We print our work orders, invoices, etc. on different colors of paper and distribute them around the office. So far, we have successfully printed white, yellow, pink, and a lime green. We cannot get the printer to accept a pastel green paper, but we really need to be able to print on it.
I've looked at several pieces of paper, but I cannot find a problem with it. The paper is the right size (letter) and identical in every way I can tell except for the color. Every other printer in the office is an HP printer and we've never had an issue like this before.
I have tried looking at settings and changing the paper type, but I haven't had any luck (paper type is set to plain paper).
The printer is connected directly to a WIndows XP (SP3) PC via USB cable.

He never received a real solution; he says he "got around the problem by sellotaping a torch to the paper tray." I honestly have no idea what that means, but adding something to rig it is not an acceptable solution. This is a printer that is used by one salesperson who is not computer-saavy.
I have tried printing as various media types (transparent, glossy, matte, iron-on, other specialty paper...and others) with no luck.
The media sensor has so far been more frustrating than useful.

Issue with borderless printing using plain paper

Hi,I previously used hp 7000 wide format for printing borderless (edge-to-edge) on A3 plain paper from pdf or autocad or even ms word.Now I am using Hp 7612. Here i am not able to do edge to edge prnting on A3 plain paper using hp 7612 driver.My operating system is windows 7 32 bit and I have both drivers for hp 7000 and hp 7612 installed in my PC.I find the driver for hp 7000 better for me.Is there a possibility to integrate the driver for hp 7000 for my hp 7612 printer? Hi Roshan, With step 2 you have to do the following.Open notepad just so you can paste text into a document. When you already extracted the software you just need to go to the 7Z folder.In the run box just type %temp%. There you should find the 7Z folder.When you find this map you should copy the entire rule. Just like you would copy an internet address.x Then you should go back to the driver into printer properties.There you should go to the advanced tab and click on new... When following those steps you should paste the link you copied earlier. Hopefully this is enough information for you.If not please let me know. Bas Pootjes

Cannot print on glossy paper any more

I used to be able to print on glossy paper and no longer can do so. Anybody know why. I also cannot scan any more.
I think I am missing some software but I have no idea how it got lost or how to get it back. This has been going on for more than a year and I have been working around it but I need to use it now.

C4580 Borderless Printing on Plain Paper?

I want to do borderless printing on a plain piece of letter size (8.5 x 11 in) paper. When I select borderless though the HP software tells me I can only do this with photo paper which I don't want because it just wastes ink. I'm printing on normal paper so is it possible to print borderless on normal paper?

I cannot print on 6x8 paper.

I purchased a 310e. I like to make stationery with my printer. With my old printer I had no problem printing on 6x8 paper. The new printer won't align propertly. I am using Windows 7. They say that the problem is the driver. Thank you.

iPhoto has no idea of what paper is being printed - that is totally a function of the printer and the print driver supplied with the printer - you need to look at the printer specific options and your printer manual and/or support forums

Can't select "Plain Paper" or "Automatic" when Printing in iPhoto

When attempting to print a picture to plain paper in iPhoto 6, the program will not let me select "Plain Paper" or "Automatic" in the "Paper Type" drop down.
See if you can duplicate the problem on your Mac this way:
1) select a picture within your iPhoto library
2) File > Print
3) Choose Advanced, then in the third drop down menu, choose "Paper Type/Quality"
4) Within the "Paper" tab, drop down the menu called "Paper Type"
5) Can you select "Plain Paper" and/or "Automatic"?
Perhaps this is Apple's way of saying they don't want us to print on anything but picture quality paper?? I hope not. I just want to print out some lined paper for my first grader to practice on.

The default setting for me appears to be plain paper. iPhoto won't let me choose 'photo quality' and when printing photos on the default setting on photo paper dark areas appear blotchy and the colours are too harsh. I'm using a HP 1205 all-in-one printer/scanner/copier, and the HP people seem baffled by this. The same printer, when connected to my former iBook computer, allowed me to choose different paper types.

I get everything on A4 format.

Hi,
I came across such issues using AirPrint from Mac OS.. probably an Airprint bug.
Go to Print & Scan and click the plus sign.
From the extended add a printer dialog select the Photosmart 7520.
Open the Use drop-down and select the HP Photosmart 7520 from teh list (Instead the default AirPrint option)
Additionally from the iPhoto print dialog click Print, the OS print dialog will appear.
Set the Paper Source as Photo Tray under the Paper Type/Quality menu.

No Plain Paper print option when printing on small size papers

Hi,
I am using an Officejet 100 and an Officejet 6500 on a MacBook Pro, Mac OS X 10.5.8. HP Printer Driver version is 12.4.
I need to print on plain paper using paper sizes A6 or 4"x6". The print window of the driver does not give a plain paper option (it is greyed).
Hence, I have to use some photo paper setting even though printing on plain paper.
That is just too slow!
Is there any way to get the printer driver to allow the plain paper setting on A4 or 4"x6"?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

I see you are experiencing driver issues. I would like to help!
I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
I would also suggest running your Apple updates: OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
After the updates, I would recommend reinstalling the HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver - Mac OS X 10.5.

No borderless printing; cannot print via imagebrowser...Please...help!

I can no longer print 4x5 borderless photos (or any photos) from imagebrowser to my i850 canon printer. I have version 6.0.2.38(7L) of Imagebrowser with Leopard installed on my Mac. I select the print option, and then it says to click on Page Setup for borderless printing. The only option I get there is 4x6 (with a border)??? There is no 4x6 borderless like I used to have with the old imagebrowser and system. I set up the print dialogue box to select the "best" picture (used to have a setting for high quality pictures???) and then I click on "Print" and nothing happens. It never goes to printer and I can't cancel or anything. I have to do a force quit. How do I just print a 4x6 borderless print using Imagebrowser on my Mac??????? Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!!!

Not really. I used v6.1 in my testing. Maybe your v6.0.x has a problem with 10.5. Also, if you upgraded from Tiger to Leopard and didn't do a clean install of ImageBrowser, then maybe this is causing the failed printing.
You mentioned you can print on plain paper from Quark. Can you print on plain paper from ImageBrowser?
My last suggestion would be to view the cups error log. With the i850 printer queue open, select Printer then Logs & History. This may give some clues as to why ImageBrowser is not working for you...
