Cannot print to trusty Epson printer in Lion

I'm in InDesign and all I get is to a crash each time I try to print from within InDesign. I have been able to generate a pdf of the file from InDesign and am able to print then from within Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Maybe new OS's need to wait until manufacturers can catch up with new drivers?
Have no idea how to fix this.
Ken

You may need to find a different ps driver for your Epson. Vista Home doesn't have any Apple printer drivers or a Generic PS driver. However, you may be able to use one of the other included vendor postscript drivers, even with a non-ps printer, as the Mac does the necessary conversion.
FYI - To make things easier, Apple has made Bonjour for Windows. This application will save you a lot of trouble when connecting from Windows to a Mac share. I've tested Bonjour for Windows on Vista Home Premium that was connecting to a Canon iP5200R shared from my G5's USB. I used the Canon CP660PS driver that is part of the Vista install and could print b&w and colour fine.
Note that for most non-ps printers, the vendor's Windows driver that is preinstalled or on an included CD won't work. It will appear to leave the Windows spooler but the job doesn't print. So when you get to the step to add the Windows driver, don't be tempted to select one of the Epson R series (the 210 is present but not the 220).

  • Cannot print to OpenDirectory printers, print button does not respond

Since I upgraded to Lion I can no longer print to the network printers in our office (which is an MS environment using Active Directory). And, Yes, I have deleted them and added the printers again after upgrading to Lion.
What happens is that the print button in the dialog just blinks and the dialog is never dismissed. (No printing occurs either.)
The printers in question are an HP 4250n (and I've tried both with the native driver and the generic). The other printer is a Konica Minolta C452 PS. Since Lion is not yet supported I've tried with the generic PS driver.
I found this link http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/149011-cannot-print-from-lion-to-microsoft -print-services-active-directory where another user has the same problem as me. Unfortunately our printers are not listed under the Windows tab.
I'm seriously considering downgrading to Snow Leopard if I cannot get this to work. Any hints please?

I made a workaround by adding the printer as an IP-printer using the LPD-protocol. Now printing works again!

  • Lion Upgrade Cannot Print with CS5

Since upgrading to Lion, Photoshop crashes when trying to print and so do all the CS5 applications.
I'm using an Epson printer and have: - reinstalled the drivers - followed the system update steps from Epson and the Macbook found no updates needed - followed the steps from Apple to reset the printing system - cleared all preferences in Photoshop - tried setting Photoshop to a generic printer - and a few other things from the forums like deleting driver files.
Now I cannot get any printer option to display at all in the PS print dialogue, it's grayed out.
Has anyone found a way to fix this problem?

Have you upgraded your Photoshop to 12.0.4? You should if you're planning to print from Lion.

    Help

I'm so embarrassed.  The reason I was having trouble printing is because I did not install the latest print driver from Epson for Mountain Lion 10.8.1.   I thought of this in the shower and tried it and now everything is fine.
I hope I didn't send anybody on a wild goose chase.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8.2, I cannot print to my Samsung laser printer ML 2525w?  How can I get this set up to print?

After upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on my iMac, I cannot print to my Samsung B&W Laser printer ML 2525W either by USB or wireless.    Any help on how to setup or reconfigure would be apprecaited.
I either print blank pages or prints one time then goes off line, or spits out a bunch of blank paper, etc.  Have gone through all the standard fixes, reboot, reset , reload driver, etc.

From the link to the Thread you provided, I worked through the one message procedures that were listed.
For ease of reference, I have copied them and printed them below.  This was an old thread but the guidance still works with no firmware upgrade required.
I would stress that you MUST delete any and all files relating to USB connection of the printer to the MAC, including all print drivers (from both Apple and Samsung either from CD or web downloads) and all print queues, etc.  I was only able to get the printer to properly hand shake with my Mac by setting it up wirelessly after all old files were deleted with hard power off reboots on both the Mac and Printer.
I hope that someone from Apple will pass this note along to their programing department because there is some type of incompatibility in the new ML OS and the Samsung ML2525w print dirvers used for a cable (USB) type connection.  Apple needs to be talking to Samsung to get the USB issue resolved.  I am going to post this same message on the Samsung site to see if someone from there will contact Apple to work together on a final solution for USB connectivity.
Here is the steps I followed to get my ML2525w to work in the wireless mode.  Again, I cannot stress the need to clean out all the old files (drivers, print queues, etc. - everything) before setting up wirelessly.
As a note, I ran this printer with Lion for almost 2 years and it always worked fine (both wireless and USB).  From other comments on the thread, users were good with this printer using Lep. and Snow Lep also. - - no issues from either a USB connection or wireless until Mountain Lion.
Before the fix, I was experiencing many of the same issues as described on user chat threads, printer going offline after a print job.  1st page sometimes printing but all the rest of the pages were garbage.  No printing at all. Printer just running a bunch of blank pages out. etc.
I run an iMAC 27" desktop with the ML OS upgrade just installed from Lion.
"I've just installed one of these printers for my parents.
First of all, don't waste your time connecting the ML-2525W as a USB printer. The printer will go offline after each print job. It's hopeless, at least (I assume) until Samsung gets around to publicly releasing a firmware update.
Instead, you have to use the ML-2525W as a wireless printer. In that mode, it works fine.
    This is what I did:
    (1) First, if you have already attempted to install the Samsung driver software from the included CD-ROM, uninstall it. Get the uninstaller from the Samsung support site:
    http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/ML-2525W
Download the "Printer Driver (ver. 4.0)" ZIP file. It unzips to a folder that contains the uninstaller. Likewise, download the "Smart Panel Driver" ZIP file and uninstall the Smart Panel software.
    (2) Disconnect the USB cable from the printer, if it is connected. Pull the power plug on the printer and power cycle it.
    (3) Restart your Mac.
    (4) Go to the "Printer Driver (ver. 4.0)" folder that you previously unzipped. Inside it is a folder named "WirelessSetting". Open the folder and run the "Wireless Setting.app".
    (5) The application will ask you to connect the USB cable to the printer. Do so, and the Mac should be able to communicate with the printer to perform the wireless setup.
    (6) The application will show you a list of wireless networks. One of them is the wireless interface in the printer (ad-hoc). You can ignore that unless you intend to use the printer without connecting to another wireless network. In my case, I selected the wireless network in my parents' home (infrastructure) and entered the security passphrase. The application then configured the wireless interface in the ML-2525W to connect to the home network.
    (7) The Wireless Setting application will then tell you to disconnect the USB cable.
    (8) After finishing the Wireless Setting application, go to Word, Textedit, Pages, or Safari, and select a file or page to print. In the print dialog window, you should see the ML-2525W as a "Nearby Printer" (i.e. via Bonjour). Select the ML-2525W, and your Mac will automatically connect to Apple's Software Update and download the latest Samsung driver. If for any reason the Software Update download does not succeed, you can manually download and install the Apple driver using the previously published link in this discussion.
    (9) After that, you should be able to print to the ML-2525W whenever you want, without the printer going offline.
    (10) If you have a USB printer queue still in your Print & Fax Preferences (from your previous unsuccessful attempt to connect via USB), you can delete it. You only need to keep the Bonjour queue.
Obviously YMMV, but in my case this procedure got the printer working reliably without the need for a firmware update."

uninstalled epson printer from control panel...installed new brother printer....now i cannot print anything .pdf old or newly downloaded@

For starters, what exactly do you mean by "cannot print"?
Are you getting an error message? Are you trying to print from within Reader or are you opening these in the browser? What version of Reader. Even though it's a new printer, the drivers that came with it (or the ones that were already on your computer) may be old so, have you downloaded the most recent drivers from the Brother site?

    "/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpII.app/Contents/MacOS /rastertoescpII failed"
I also saw this same error message above the Print Queue, ever since allowing the Epson Printer Software Update (August 2013) to install. After this update installed, I was able to print a basic Test Page from the Print Queue, but when printing from any application I only got "Looking for printer..." displayed above the Print Queue, which would stall and never print.
2008 MacBook, 10.7.5. It used to print to my Epson WorkForce 845 wirelessly without problems, before this software update was installed.
Changing the driver from "Epson WorkForce 845" to "Epson WorkForce 600 - Gutenprint v5.2.3" was a workaround that did allow me to print, but I wasn't satisfied with that.
Found this better solution in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5233149?start=0&tstart=0
    (with thanks to Yuengdog1983):
This issue may be a result of the Computer Name being left empty:
Open System Preferences and choose Sharing.
Enter a name for your computer.
Even without restarting the MacBook, I was able to now change back to using the Epson WorkForce 845 driver v9.0 successfully. I never would have guessed that a Computer Name is required in order to print!

  • Cannot Print to a Networked Epson C900

Hi all, apologies for the lengthy post but I would be over the moon with any light you may be able to shed on this problem.
I have an Epson C900 connected to a port on my router with a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.6 but, since upgrading to Leopard, I am unable to successfully add, configure or print from my mac.
Using the driver supplied on the DVD, the printer does not appear in 'More Printers' and if I select the print driver manually, the printer is added but it does not print. Consumable levels do display if I click on utility in the print queue but not if I click 'suppy levels' (nothing unusual there).
If I connect the printer via USB, it is recognised correctly and prints although any changes to printer settings seem to take an eternity. Unfortunately, the USB option is not viable as another computer connects in this way. 4 other computers are network connected, and all can print with no problems.
I still have a second hard disk loaded with OS X 10.4.11 and, if I boot from this, I can print just fine.
I have also tried the latest driver from epson (dated September and pre leopard) but I have no idea where the installer places the driver as it certainly doesn't appear in the PPD folder.
Using the CUPS tool, I can add the printer, display and modify all settings but cannot print a test page. All I get is "/usr/libexec/cups/backend/http failed" and, certainly, no data is sent to the printer.
Incidentally, the network address of the printer is "http://192.168.1.6:631/EPSONIPPrinter"
Any clues, am I doing something wrong or do I just have to wait for Epson to write a new driver?
    Thanks in advance,
    Confused of Suffolk

Well, thanks for all the help guys. The response was amazing - not.
Anyway, problem is resolved and I'll post the answer here in case it helps some future poor user.
Did another clean install, erase and install, without any print drivers apart from the HP drivers for my HP all in one that always worked.
Installed the driver from Epson dated November 2006.
    Restarted machine.
Went to System Preferences/Printers and Faxes.
Clicked on + to add printer.
    Click on IP
Choose Internet Printing Protocol from drop down menu.
Type in IP address ie. 192.168.1.6 or whatever yours is.
Let it search until it comes up with the bright idea of Generic Postscript Printer.
    Click on More Printers.
Select Epson TCP/IP from the drop down menu.
    Wait.
Lo and behold, 192.168.1.6(IP) is discovered.
Click on it and then click on Add.
    Job Done.
Had done this a multitude of times but the printer never appeared. Must have been because of the presence of the Apple supplied stuff.

  • I cannot print anything larger than a 4x5" from LR4 to my Epson 3880

No matter what I do I cannot print pictures larger than a 4x5" image from LR4 to my Epson 3880.
I have doublechecked all of my settings in the page and print sections. I have even watched various internet training on printing from LR4 including Matt Kloskowski in Kelby Training....all to no avail.
I have absolutely no problem with printing in PS CS6.

The problem continues to be exporting a photo from IPHOTO to PE 9 organizer
Why do this? You're just making life harder. If you want to use iphoto as your image manager, don't use organizer, or vice versa. If you want to use iphoto to organize your photos, set up PSE as your external editor there, or export the photos to the desktop, save the edited photos as new images and reimport them to iphoto. Using both only makes your life harder and creates problems, as you've discovered.

  • Cannot print via network on Epson R300

Hi, I have Epson Stylus Color R300 connected to my wireless router that has printer server. It works fine with windows (one desktop machine with Windows XP and one laptop with Windows 7) but I cannot print from macs (Macbook 2008 and Macbook Pro 2010, both OSX 10.6.6 with latest updates). I tried to play around with different drivers and settings - no luck. Sometimes printer replies '192.168.1.1 is busy', sometimes is does not do a thing. I tried native Epson drivers, gutenprint 5.2.6+CUPS, PrintFab - no luck.
Did anyone have any similar problem? Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply. The router is Zyxel Keenetic though this product is for Eastern European market only. I tried to search their website and found similar model for Western Europe - http://www.zyxel.co.uk/web/productfamilydetail.php?PC1indexflag=20040520161313&CategoryGroupNo=7C8C841D-F9CB-46AD-B0DA-C 4FA7F1DA500
I have tried IPP and LPD but nothing worked. After googling this issue a bit I found that some people tried to put P1 as queue but it did not help as well.

  • I Cannot print from imac iPhoto 9.6 using Yosemite 10.10.1to Epson printer? How do I fix this problem?

I Updated my iMac to Yosemite 10.10.1 and cannot print from iPhoto 9.6 to my Epson picture mate PM240 photo printer. I had no problem printing before the upgrade. It seems like I don't have a connection between the iMac and Epson Printer. I checked all connections and they are correct. I visited the Epson site and there were no updates available for the PM240. The problem arises after I select a picture to print. When I select PRINT from the FILE the spinning color wheel begins and I cannot go further.
I Contacted Apple and the technical adviser ran the iPhoto troubleshooting programs within IPhoto. This seemed to solve the problem, but the problem almost immediately reocurred. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Thanks for the replies guys.  Epson put me through a complex set of instructions to install an earlier driver.  The problem was not solved.  Apple also tried to solve the provlem by getting rid of the printer, unplugging it etc and then re starting and checking computer/printer communication by printing a test page from the system preferences/Pring & Fax options.  This worked proving the the computer and printer are talking to each other.
The printer works properly as a stand alone unit.  That is, I can copy and print and scan and print with no problems.
The Apple support guy didn't suggest any Apple alternative drivers so I assume there aren't any.
Neither the Epson nor Apple assistants seemed interested in the printer generated error message.  I would have thought it would at least provide a clue to the problem to someone with technical expertise.
It seems that there are a lot of problems with the 10.6.8 update so maybe Apple will get to work and bring it up to scratch.  I hope it gets things right soon.
