Cannot print to USB HP Color LaserJet 3600N on Vista SP2

I had this printer setup and working fine until I nuked my laptop and reinstalled Vista Ultimate with SP2.  When I connect the USB, the laptop connects as it makes the noise that it's connected.  The printer shows online.  I went through the wizard of adding and installing the proper driver that I downloaded from HP.
When I try and print a test page, all I get is "Error - Printing."  That's it.  No error in event viewer.  Yes the printer is on.  Yes it's the proper driver.  Yes it's connected properly.  Yes I have tried 3 other USB inputs.  Yes the printer worked fine last week so it's not the printer.
What the heck is going on?  I can print fine to 2 networked printers.

  • Color Laserjet 3600n won't print from network

Our small office has an HP Color Laserjet 3600n that has worked great connected to the network via ethernet cable for many years. When we came in this morning it refused to work after a power outage last weekend, and print jobs would just remained trapped in the print queue with either "printer unavailable" or "printer is busy" messages. No error messages appearred on the printer, and it prints fine from an attached USB cable. I verified the network cables, and am even able to access the printer's web interface a-ok via it's web address. It normally operated on all the default settings, I believe, and I can't figure out what else could be the problem other than a hardware fault. Any clues? We have a bunch of toner cartridges and would hate to have to buy a new unit now.

  • Envelopes won't print after W 7 upgrade - Color Laserjet 3600n and Brother HL-5370DW

I, too, cannot print envelopes after upgrading to Windows 7. Same issue with 2 printers.
    Windows 7 64-bit
    4gb memory
    Word 2007
    envelopes created using mail merge
    HP Color Laserjet 3600n

Also cannot print to Brother HL-5370DW. Wireless
When I send the envelopes to the printer, there are no errors. But the job is not actually sent to the printer.
I CAN print other documents to both printers.
I tried printing to XPS. A "Save the file as" dialog appeared. I browsed to the desktop, entered a name and clicked Save. No file appeared on the desktop.

You've got a double whammy there. CS2 is not universal so you're running
it under rosetta. Additionally, there are still problems with Leopard

Keep an eye on the Leopard threads and give serious consideration to

Unable to install hp Color LaserJet 3600n network printer on new Windows 7 (64bit) PC. According to Microsoft Windows Compatibility Center website (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=HP%20Col...) this printer is compatible.
I have tried everythingto no avail. HP will not support and have, very little online resources addressing this particular issue. What should I do?

  • Why aren't there Windows 7 (64 bit) specific drivers for my HP color LaserJet 3600n printer?

Why doesn't HP support its own printers by providing drivers for a very stable operating system?  I've been a longtime HP laser customer...since 1984 laser I.  I would like to use drivers for my color LJet 3600n which were specifically written for my computer's operating system.
Does anyone know where there are Windows 7 (64 bit) drivers for the HP color LaserJet 3600n printer?  Do I have to purchase Brother or Canon or Lexmark printers to get support?

Oh, you must not be on the English US site.  Basically it says to use the Vista driver and gives a link to it.  That is as good as it gets at this point, sorry.

  • Got HP color laserjet 3600n working on sl

Originally was attempting to print through airport with our HP color laserjet 3600 connected to airport via USB. This was working until we installed snow leopard - then we couldn't print.
Solution: We have an Airport Extreme G that has 2 ethernet ports, one of which can be used for a printer. We connected the 3600 to the ethernet port on airport and added the printer using the IP address and it works with all of or computers now - some with 10.5 on them and some with 10.6 on them. You can also add the printer using the ethernet port and a bonjour driver.
Hope this helps someone out there.

ok... so i found a solution that got the 3600n running. i actually found it in an HP forum (http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId= 1018527&admit=-682735245118090418665928353475). the solution was this:
I had problems with that also. While I found the documentation to be unclear, I did eventually get it to work with a macbook OSX 10.4.8 and a HP color laserjet 3600n connected across a network.
My first thought was to add it as an "IP printer", after all it's on the network and has an ip, right? That didn't work, it just printed out lots of garbage.
I then tried several things, including reinstalling the HP software twice. What finally did the trick was to:
    1. go to utilities/printer setup utility
    2. click add - note the printer does not show up
    3. click more printers, and on the window that comes up:
    4. select HP IP Printing - note the printer still does not show up
    5. click manual
    6. enter the ip address for the printer
    7. click connect
then it automatically sees the printer as a "HP Color LaserJet 3600", adds in in, and I can print to it fine.
Note: it never, in any of the menus I looked at gave me the option to select a HP 3600n, and it wouldn't see it automatically. So not the expected "just works" experience I was looking for from the Mac, but it works now, which is good, I was begining to fear I had bought the wrong printer.

  • Windows 7 and HP Color LaserJet 3600N

HP does it best again.  No Windows 7 driver for Color LaserJet 3600n!   You can fill in the blanks...   However, using Windows 7 Professional, I was able to install the XP drivers.   Download the XP software and it will run in a virtual XP session.  I then added the printer as Windows 7 would lead you to do.   The add did not complete correctly--CTRL/ALT/DEL.  However, the printer was added and seems to work.   Maybe HP and Microsoft are pushing the more expansive Windows 7 Professional.
    This question was solved.

XP Virtual session, not familiar with, but sure seems painful and possibly limiting vs HP doing the right thing in the first place.
FYI ... Over in the Home > Other HP Products and Technologies > Windows® 7 Beta and test forum, the lack of a driver has already been noted in the thread ...
HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Windows 7
A few select remarks by various people (including myself) in the thread were ...
Is this really true and if so, for heaven's sake why?
    Ridiculous.
    stunned by this decision
This is unbelievable!  We purchased multiple 3600n printers just barely a year ago (September, 2008).  We have made the decision to upgrade our office computers to Windows 7 (from Vista) and now we find out that our practically still new printers are not compatible.  I can assure you that I will NEVER purchase another HP compute or printer... EVER!!!
I was also a bit surprised.
I DON'T WANT TO HEAR BS SUPPORT RHETORIC FROM YOU GUYS ... FIX THIS. (a snip from my acidic entry)
HP has not responded in that forum and I just put in a support email to HP if this is poor choice of words (not supported vs we are working on it) in the
HP LaserJet, Color LaserJet and LaserJet MFP Products - Product Support for Microsoft Windows 7
link to see if it is really being worked on. Since they didn't speak up in the forum and its been since 10/5 ... plenty of time to respond, I'm stepping it up and going on the offensive.
On that Windows 7 printer support page, I counted  9 models (some of which have sub models for networking and duplexing) as not supported. I didn't count the supported ones, but must have been several hundred. What is really laughable is that the lowly LJ 2p is still supported ... aren't those circa 15 years old? Not sure if the 2p is the oldest one on the list, but it is the one I recognized as truly most ancient.
My 3600n was bought at Staples in 9/2008 and has a manufacture date on 6/2008, its not like I purchased POS laying in someone's warehouse years and got taken by some scammer.
Plain and simple ... I don't know when HP first started selling the 3600 and when they dropped, but I just don't understand how HP could do this to a  product they actively sold a year ago (and there was a Vista Driver update in 11/2009) yet they support the ancient 2p ... Astonishing !!!!!!!!!!
HP the support listing (url above) for the 3600 (besides the bad news) and has a link to a trade-in program ... thinking ... oh they recogized the errors of there ways and was going to give me a good deal ... no, it was some generic trade-in page, but I ran my 3600n though the page to see what it was worth ... $25.
Feel like getting stepped on, the trade in price, that was another one which lead me to this very acidic comment in my original post ... AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED YOUR CUTE HP TOTAL CARE LOGO IS YOU (HP) WITH YOUR HANDS AROUND OUR NECKS JUST SQUEEZING US FOR EVERY RED CENT WE MAKE IN JUST THE DAINTIEST WAYS YOU CAN (BET YOUR MARKETING PEOPLE NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT INTERPRETATION)!
I'm done being acidic, I'm just spreading the word!

  • Installed HP Color Laserjet 3600n software but does not show in model list

Recently installed the HP software for my Color Laserjet 3600n on my MAc OS X 10.5.5 laptop. The software says it is installed successfully, but when I try to set it up for printing via IP address, it says the ip address is valid, but at the bottom, iwhen I choose select drivers, my model does not show in the list.
    Any thoughts?

What IP printing protocol did you try, and what does it say to use in the manual?
Since it's not a postscript printer, I wonder if it uses More Printers > HP IP? (instead of IP printer)

  • Squeaky HP Color LaserJet 3600n

Our office has an HP Color LaserJet 3600n and it been working great, but the last month of so, it's been starting to make a squeaky noise every time it prints something.  I'm assuming it's from the rollers, but not sure what the mechanics of the machine are.  Can this be resolved with WD40 or a light solvent lubricant?  If so, where are the "rollers"?  Otherwise, are there other options?  Thanks!

    Hi mbsearch,
I noticed that this post is a couple of years old.  I wanted to reply since there are several hundred views.
There are many rollers and gears within the LaserJet.  Figuring out and knowing which roller it is would be a difficult task.   Using a product like WD40 or other light lubricant would not be recommended as the potential negative impact of the lubricant relative to the materials would be unknown.
    My recommendation would be to:
    1) Print Out the Supplies Status Page and make sure that any non Cartridge supplies such as the Transfer Belt, Fuser, etc are relatively good.  As they get near end of life the can start making noise.  Replace anything that is getting towards the end of life.
    2) You can have a support person come out and service the printer to resolve the squeak.  They will have the proper lubricants and parts to resolve the issue.

    Hi,
I have upgraded maverick to yosemite. The last Update for printer software was installed (version 3.0 at Oct. 1 2014). But both printers doesn not work any more.
The color laser jet 3600n stops after 10% of the print with PCL XL error, Subsystem kernel, Error: Missing data, Operator: Vendor Unique, Position 14.
With the OfficeJet 8600 Pro it is quite similar. The printer starts loadin the page. After some minutes the printer push out the empty page. In both cases the Mac lost connection to the printer for some time. After few minutes the connection is established.

  • Envelopes won't print correctly to HP Color LaserJet 2550n

I have been having some printing issues since I set up our printer as a Bonjour printer with my AirPort Extreme Base Station. Ironically when I had our HP Color LaserJet 2550n set up as a networked printer on a LAN port of one of our Linksys routers my family had very few printing issues. It was in this configuration that I was able to print an envelope in Pages '08 without any problems. Now I can get the information to print, but if I put in a letter sized piece of paper to 'test' the information prints across the bottom of the page in correct format, but not in the correct orientation for a #10 envelope.
I have gone to page setup and changed the Paper Size to #10 envelope. This did not help. This is so frustrating since I was printing without issue when this printer was on a LAN port of our second Linksys router. I am now using Easy Envelopes from Ambrosia as a work around, but want to be able to print from within Pages '08, and not have to rely on Easy Envelopes or MS Word 2006. I am wondering if this has to do with the drivers that I had to use when I set up this printer on the USB port of my AirPort Extreme Base Station.

Well go figure. When I went to System Preferences/Print and Fax, and it showed two versions of my printer. The one with an accurate picture representing my printer, and one that used Generic Post Script drivers with a picture that did not look like my printer. So I uninstalled both printers, shut down my computer, did some things for awhile, restarted my computer, went to System Preferences/Print and Fax and clicked on the “+” to add a printer. The computer very quickly recognized up my printer with the correct picture for it. I added this printer, and went to Pages ’08 and it printed a #10 envelope without a hitch.
I think that what happened was that I recently did a reinstall of OS X Tiger, and as a part of that install I had a problem with the .DMG file I downloaded from HP’s web-site, and wonder if this is when the generic PS files were installed.
Anyway my printer seems to be working fine now, and maybe this will help someone with the same problem.

  • Unable to print to an HP Color LaserJet 2600n in 10.4.11

Hi (I really, truly have gone through the other topics and can't find a solution).
I'm trying to print on a G3 iMac via USB to an HP Color Laserjet 2600n. The printer driver is not included with Apple, and when I went to download it from the HP site (complete package for G3 computers running OS 10.3 or 10.4) it says there are no files to mount. I downloaded the same thing for a G3 running Panther and it installed perfectly and that iMac prints to the 2600n without a problem. I then downloaded the driver for G4s using the 2600n onto the G3 running 10.4.11 and while it installed fine and the print setup recognizes the printer, the printer will not print. It goes through "starting job" gets to "processing job" and stays there forever. I was on Customer Support with HP, and as a result of installing the printer on my older iMac, we've deduced the problem must be with the software on the G3 that won't print (the one running 10.4.11)
I read somewhere that with this HP printer and some others the job gets processed on the computer itself and then is sent to the printer. Clearly, the iMac is not processing the job.
I've installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, redownloaded, etc. etc. I don't know what to do. I installed Ghostscript et al, but there is no driver there for the 2600n. I've tried generic postcript and it doesn't work- in that case the print box goes for a few seconds and then says "printing stopped."
It's only this printer- this iMac with 10.4.11 prints to two other printers via a Bonjour network (an HP 2015 and an HP 2300n). But I'd like access to a color printer. Any thoughts? Any ideas? Why won't the complete G3 package install on this iMac when it will on the one running Panther? And why won't it process the print job?

I'm trying to print on a G3 iMac via USB to an HP Color Laserjet 2600n. The printer driver is not included with Apple, and when I went to download it from the HP site (complete package for G3 computers running OS 10.3 or 10.4) it says there are no files to mount. I downloaded the same thing for a G3 running Panther and it installed perfectly and that iMac prints to the 2600n without a problem. I then downloaded the driver for G4s using the 2600n onto the G3 running 10.4.11 and while it installed fine and the print setup recognizes the printer, the printer will not print.
OK. So you began by trying to install the same package you installed on the Panther machine? It sounds as though the file got corrupted during the download if the system couldn't mount the disk image. Anyway, you then downloaded a different package for G4 machines and installed that on your G3 machine but this didn't work.
Are you sure about this? Do HP really have different packages for G4 and G3 Macs? If so, you will need the G3 package for a G3 Mac. Can you point me to the HP download page listing the drivers so I can take a look? That way I should be able to see exactly what you've tried so far.
OK, I found the page. There isn't a G4 package as such but the G3 one is supposed to run on Tiger so that is likely the one you need.
Is the printer's firmware up to date? I notice there's an update utility for it, too.
It goes through "starting job" gets to "processing job" and stays there forever. I was on Customer Support with HP, and as a result of installing the printer on my older iMac, we've deduced the problem must be with the software on the G3 that won't print (the one running 10.4.11)
This doesn't follow. It could be that HP's drivers don't work properly on Tiger but do on Panther. That could as easily be HP's fault as anybody else's. (It might not be their fault, but the fact that their driver works on Panther doesn't necessarily mean that driver - or another driver - will work on Tiger.)
I've installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, redownloaded, etc. etc. I don't know what to do.
When you uninstalled, how exactly did you remove the installation? Please give me as many details as you can.
I installed Ghostscript et al, but there is no driver there for the 2600n.
Why did you think installing GS might help? Ghostscript doesn't provide print drivers as far as I know (though it is involved - or can be involved - in printing processes).

  • Printing to Windows HP Color Laserjet 1500L

I have just set up my macbook to print to my Lexmark E232 over my widows network. It works great.
So I followed a similar approach for my HP Color Lasejet 1500L. However when I get to the final step where you choose the actual printer Model (after slecting HP) I find the HP Color Laserjet 1500L isnt listed. I have tried some of the other ones but nothing prints. All the steps windows printing-network neiborhood-etc are fine.
Note I have insalled the driver etc for the HP Color Laserjet 1500L to work via USB and this works no probs.
I tried other in the drop down menu but couldnt find out where the driver for the Hp 1500 was located.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

To use the OS X standard network protocols (Windows/IP printing), you must have either a postscript printer (the driver in that case is just a ppd for the OS X postscript output) OR, a driver designed to work with CUPS (CUPS driver). HP doesn't provide CUPS drivers for OS X (who knows why, since they do for linux).
You need to install foomatic and ESP ghostscript:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/foomatic/
    then, install the foo2oak driver:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/showprinter.cgi?recnum=HP-Color_LaserJet1500
