Cannot print - troubleshooting help
I am using an oldish pdf generator (header is PDF1.0) and cannot print the document, although it looks fine on-screen
The generator embeds full (non-subset) T1 fonts
summary:
print (to ps file) - fails (in reader)
print(to ps file) as image - fails (in reader)
print (to pdf) in acrobat - fails and tells that no pages were selected for printing
preflight: all acrobat version checks OK,
preflight: all PDF-something checks fail (of course, the generator did not know about these standards) AND indicate a font problem
acrobat reader 4 (I still have a copy prints (to physical ps printer) ok
ghostscript - prints (converts to postscript) ok
xpdf / poppler - converts to postscript ok
physical printer with pdf capability (kyocera) prints ok
So this looks like sort of an artificial restriction - how to find out where exactly it fails?

Monotype Imaging has introduced a new EULA that permits fonts to be used in the Embedded OpenType® (EOT) format for Web embedding and for non-commercial purposes. Products from the Monotype, Monotype Imaging, ITC, Linotype and Image Club foundries are covered by this agreement
This is interesting. If this is the font you are using, Acrobat could embed it as it uses this format, however the tool you are using simply embeds type 1, which that particular license wouldn't allow.
Certainly a minefield!

Acrobat X Pro 10.1.6 (on Mac OS 10.7.5) hang error, cannot print. HELP!!!!!
Every time I try to print a pdf (regardless of which printer I use, regardless of whether printer is networked or directly connected), I end up with that lovely little pinwheel, spinning endlessly...and have to force quit. I recently upgraded to OS 10.6.8 and it paused network printer, now whole office cannot print. Help
All Macs in the office recently updated to the new 10.6.8 OS and now the network printer (a XEROX machine) has been paused so that no print jobs sent to it from any computer are processed. The machine itself still works (can copy, scan, fax, etc.) on its own, but new OS system is preventing anyone from sending jobs to it. Any suggestions?
FOund solution as follows:
Go to the Finder, choose the Go menu, choose Go to Folder, enter or copy /usr/libexec/cups/backend/ the click Go and the "backend" folder will open in the Finder. With that folder open, Enter Time Machine, and go back in time until prior to the update, click on the LPD file and Restore it. I chose to keep both the original and the backup when Time Machine prompted, that way I end up with both files just in case. -
I am running windows 7 64bit, have a brother printer MFC-J4510W with the latest driver update, have Adobe reader 11.0.10.32 and as of today I cannot print any pdf files that before I could, all help appreciated
I followed the FAQ troubleshooting and that didn't helpHere is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc. -
After buying a new imac and upgrading to lion, then upgrading to illustrator I cannot print borderless on my canon printer. It prints borderless fine from photoshop. I have installed the new drivers from canon through apple but that didn't help. It shows borderless in the print window but continues to leave a border when printing. Any suggestions?

You may have a print job stuck in the AirPrint cue of the iOS device, or the printer's firmware may be out of date. Do a firmware update first. You will find the directions linked below. If that doesn't work, clearing the cue should correct the problem. Double-tap the button on the front of your iOS device. This will bring up a menu along the bottom of the screen that displays all running apps. One of the apps should be Print Center, and it should have a number next to it. That is the number of print jobs you have in the cue. Touch the Print Center icon and a window will come up displaying the print cue. You will only be able to cancel one print job at a time, so make sure to cancel the last job you sent first, or every print job that was sent after the first one may print. Once the cue is clear, try using AirPrint again. Let me know what happens.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try some of the following programs to scan for malware:

When you say you cannot print, do you see any error? Please use Print button from Reader toolbar instead of Safari > Print.
What is your Safari version? You can find it from Safari > About Safari
Can you please verify Safari > Help > Installed Plugins : Do you see Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in, Version 11.0.06?

I cannot print wirelessly from Macbook Pro: this is the error message I receive /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpII.app/Contents/MacOS /rastertoescpII failed. Can anyone help. I have been able to print on this printer for months, then yesturday out of the blue I get this error.

I also saw this same error message above the Print Queue, ever since allowing the Epson Printer Software Update (August 2013) to install. After this update installed, I was able to print a basic Test Page from the Print Queue, but when printing from any application I only got "Looking for printer..." displayed above the Print Queue, which would stall and never print.
2008 MacBook, 10.7.5. It used to print to my Epson WorkForce 845 wirelessly without problems, before this software update was installed.
Changing the driver from "Epson WorkForce 845" to "Epson WorkForce 600 - Gutenprint v5.2.3" was a workaround that did allow me to print, but I wasn't satisfied with that.

This issue may be a result of the Computer Name being left empty:
Open System Preferences and choose Sharing.
Enter a name for your computer.
Even without restarting the MacBook, I was able to now change back to using the Epson WorkForce 845 driver v9.0 successfully. I never would have guessed that a Computer Name is required in order to print! -
No borderless printing; cannot print via imagebrowser...Please...help!
I can no longer print 4x5 borderless photos (or any photos) from imagebrowser to my i850 canon printer. I have version 6.0.2.38(7L) of Imagebrowser with Leopard installed on my Mac. I select the print option, and then it says to click on Page Setup for borderless printing. The only option I get there is 4x6 (with a border)??? There is no 4x6 borderless like I used to have with the old imagebrowser and system. I set up the print dialogue box to select the "best" picture (used to have a setting for high quality pictures???) and then I click on "Print" and nothing happens. It never goes to printer and I can't cancel or anything. I have to do a force quit. How do I just print a 4x6 borderless print using Imagebrowser on my Mac??????? Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!!!

I went to the Canon web site and downloaded the latest driver v4.8.3 and it put it where it needs to go but doesn't tell you where that is.
It would try to copy them to /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter, but since the same files for this version would already there be, it might not do this unless the file being added are newer. It should also copy the package installer for the 4.8.3 to /Library/Receipts.

I click on Page Setup in Imagebrowser and select this, but when I go out of there and click on "Print" absolutely nothing happens. I still can't print from Imagebrowser. Not really. I used v6.1 in my testing. Maybe your v6.0.x has a problem with 10.5. Also, if you upgraded from Tiger to Leopard and didn't do a clean install of ImageBrowser, then maybe this is causing the failed printing.
You mentioned you can print on plain paper from Quark. Can you print on plain paper from ImageBrowser?
My last suggestion would be to view the cups error log. With the i850 printer queue open, select Printer then Logs & History. This may give some clues as to why ImageBrowser is not working for you...

Iphone 6Plus will not allow POP email account and cannot print to my wifi printers, I did on my Iphone 5 until I upgraded, can anyone help
I had talked with three people at Apple tech support on the phone, one person in the Apple store in Indianapolis, plus the other places I mentioned. Only the one young man in the Apple store was even able to identify the problem which was the POP vs. IMAP issue. And then like you said he was only able to say he hoped it would be fixed in the next update release. I did call him back this morning and told him about your simple solution, that I had seen it at the Apple forum, and that he might suggest bringing this topic up at the next staff meeting. I also let my Verizon rep know and an agent at Comcast. Something so simple yet it took three days and a lot of frustration to get fixed. Thanks again. You're my hero! ~ Carol Thomas
Also forgot to mention ... I got the iPhone 6 Plus about three weeks ago and did not have this problem. But I did a backup of my iPhone 5S on the computer and then used that backup to restore to my new iPhone. The iPad I did differently and just set it up as a new iPad with no restoring from the old one. That must have made a difference on the phone because it was set up just like the 5S ... as a POP3. -
Cannot print even after complete troubleshooting
Hello all,
Long story short: running 10.7.2, iMac 27" late 2009, with a canon mf4350d printer. Everything was working fine, now I cannot print.
What I have done:
reset the printing system, downloaded the latest drivers (v2.3) from Canon, installed the drivers and reinstalled the printer in the system preferences Print/Fax. I have done this a few times, with restarts and permission repairs in between, and with a restting PRAM etc, nothing works.
Called Canon, we dug deep in the system deleting everything in the system files about Canon and started from scratch, still nothing.
Plugged in my laptop to the printer with same cable, prints first try, so it is not the printer or the cable.
Current Error when I try to print: Cannot communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported. If the printer is supported, check the printer connection and add it again. Then, if the Print dialog box has a [Printer Info] button, acquire the printer information.: 10322
Is there something I can do? I am so stuck!

In Lion, when you conect a printer, the system detects it, and automatically downloads required driver. Did it happen to you too? Or the driver had been installed in SL, and you simply upgraded to Lion?
Unfortunately printer drivers cannot be deleted, at least I do not know any simple and clear method.
If possible, test with another mac, perhaps a friend may come to you for the test. Plug the printer, and let the system download the driver. Does it work? It should. If the printer has Lion support, there is no reason to not work, something got corrupt with your system.
Or install a fresh Lion system unto an 8 GB USB flashdrive, boot into it, and make the test.
I listed several test operations, try to use the printer with another mac, this would be relavant, or with a frsh system on another drive. This may take some time, but will show up the probable cause of your headache. -

Back to the original library
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Cannot print anything from internet using Firefox as browser. Please advise. I have to use Firefox for internet college courses, cannot print my assignments. I do not have this problem on Mac or using Internet Explorer. Only happens when using Firefox. When I select print a message comes up to save information to desktop as .xps file. Select save, sometimes it is on the desktop but I cannot open the file or it simply does not save file and get an error message that print command failed. What is happening?
