Cannot print using Canon W6400 with Leopard - help????

There is an archived discussion with this exact problem, however it doesn't seem to have been resolved. I'm hoping someone can help with the issue now....
I recently upgraded to a MacBook Pro running Leopard. I cannot get my W6400 to print with it, despite re-installing, checking cables, etc. It worked fine a few weeks ago with my old laptop, so I'm assuming it's Leopard. The error message that comes up says 'Operation Could not be completed. client-error-not-possible'. I cannot find this message in any manuals, or on the Canon website. I've logged the question in with Canon, but it could take up to 3 days to get a response.
Any ideas anyone? Many thanks.

After about 7 hours on the phone with Canon, Apple, friends, etc. I rang the man I bought the printer from. He said 'no problem' and within 20 mins, he emailed me the link below - this is after Canon told me there was no updated driver as the printer was so old! Lunatics! Anyway, if anyone needs a great company for large format printers, etc ring Design Supply.

  • Cannot print to Canon MF4140 with latest 2.21 driver

After I add a printer (I choose Canon MF4100 Series UFRII LT (UK) driver) when I try to print I get UFRII driver error -50.

It is unusual that you are getting this error with a direct USB connection. You could try another USB cable. You also need to ensure you select the correct queue, as the machine can show the Fax queue in the Add Printer view.
One last suggestion, when you do add the printer via USB, the Mac sometimes incorrectly shows it has selected the UFR2 driver. With this selected you will get an error when you print. So when you add, make sure you change the Print Using menu to 'Select printer software' and then search for the MF4140 in the printer model list. With this MF4140 selected open Options & Supplies and select the Utility tab and then click Utility. This will open the UFR2 Printmonitor app and it should connect to the MF4140 without error. If it does, close the Printmonitor and then try printing.
    Hope this helps.

  • TERRIBLE LOOKING PRINTS USING CANON iP6700D & iPHOTO '08--HELP!!

I just bought a brand new iMac and am attempting to print pictures from iPhoto on my Canon iP6700D. The prints look HORRIBLE. Very grainy, low res, amateurish. When I use the Canon's direct print option (you can print directly from a smartdisk using the printer's LCD screen) the quality is AMAZING. So, I'm leaning toward a configuration issue with the iMac.
I did try printing from Preview to make sure it wasn't an issue withiPhoto, but had the same issues.
Does anyone have ideas on how I can solve this?
    Thanks!

Just to get you bye (until the issue with iPhoto is sorted out), Cannon has a Mac specific printing utility for your printer - EasyPhotoPrint. It should work great until iPhoto is working good for you.

  • Cannot print using Canon senses LBP 6000 and Lion

apparently no drivers for Canon LBP 6000, but the printer is only 15 months old.   Everything appears to work, data transfers, tells me it is printing the document, but it isn't!

If you use an earlier version of the CAPT driver on Lion, then you will get a similar result to what you mention.
So I suggest you download the CAPT v3.40 driver and run the installer. At the point where it shows Easy Install, change this drop menu to Uninstall, so that the older version of CAPT is removed. When this has completed, run the installation again, obviously selecting Easy Install this time. When it has completed, ensure you add the printer as per the instruction in the document "Registering OS X Lion.pdf" that is included with the download.

  • MacBook Air cannot print on Canon MF8450

We bought a Canon MF8550 for a printer in a small local network which contains a new MacBook Pro and a new MacBook Air. Boths Macs run under OS X 10.6.7. Installing the printer on the Pro worked perfectly fine. We could use every feature and have no problems at all. So we installed the printer in the same manner on the MacBook Air: The installation ran without any problems. I used the Line Printer Daemon with the correct IP adress. For the driver I chosed the MF8400 series and everything during the installation worked fine.
After that I tried to print but the job is stopped immediately and remains in the local printer queue. The printer is set to pause and does nothing at all.
Accessing the printer by its IP adress can be done successfully. So I see it in the network and can get access to it by the user interface of Canon. So I checked the printer queue on the Canon directly but I could not see my job and the printer status is displaying no problems.
    What I did so far:
I uninstalled the whole printer driver (according to the manual of Canon so I deleted
    + jp.co.canon.UFR2.BG.plist
+ the whole Canon folder and
    + CNTDMF8400ZDE.ppd.gz
After uninstalling I emptied the trash and restarted the Mac..
I installed the actual 2.24 version of the Canon URF printer driver from the Canon site which is of mid of April and nothing changed at all - the perfectly same behavior.
With that I checked possible hardware issues especially the obvious single difference to the MacBook Pro environment:
For all tests above I used the printer with the USB ethernet adapter. So to check if here is the origin I installed the printer using Airport - but with the same result - the printer is set to pause by the URFII
When the printer is connected directly to the MacBook AIr by USB it works without any problems.
The support of Canon cannot reproduce this problem so they blame the OS.
    Does anybody have an idea
    thx

To all who'll face the same problem:
Sometimes it is easier than one can imagine:
With a right mouse click on the printer dialog box one can reset the whole printer system. After that I reinstalled the printer and...
    it works!!
Thx to all who had a view.

  • Can I use InDesign CS with Leopard?

Is anyone successfully using InDesign CS with Leopard?

    Hi Tim
I came across the very useful blog recently:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/indesignchannel/2007/11/indesignleopard_updateiii.html
by Tim Cole which may help to explain the problem you (like me!) are having. If you can't be bothered to read it all then the gist is that this is an Apple problem which they know about and are trying to fix (no date for release as yet). It relates specifically to IDCS3 and Leopard, in particular the linking of files that is unique to ID as opposed to the other Adobe programs (other CS3 programs are unaffected I think). For me the only workable solution has been to trash the ID preferences file which can be a nuisance (as you have reset prefs afterwards) but it has enabled me to continue using IDCS3. The problem appears to affect those using PowerPC more than Intel machines. For those having problems with CS and CS2 you should be aware that Adobe have no plans to make these versions compatible with Leopard; not now, not ever! Check the Adobe site for a list of compatible software (yes, IDCS3 is listed but as mentioned this is not an Adobe problem). Why Apple have not made an announcement about this is quite beyond me.
    Hope this is useful.

  • Cannot print to canon MP160, dialog box says printer off line, but it is on line, OK printing with IE

I just installed the Canon MP160 printer. I downloaded the driver software from Canon version 12.1.4.0.(2/8/2008). I can print documents fine from Internet Explorer. When I go to print from Firefox the printer dialog box says the printer is "off line" and I get printer queue error messages. I can also print OK from windows. I have a PC 32 bit with Windows Vista.

  • Cannot print to Canon iR3380i after Mavericks update

We have a small office network.  All machines print to our Canon iR3380i copier.  The iR3380i has a static IP address in our internal network.  All machines currently use OS X Lion.
I updated my machine (2011 MacBook Air 13") to OS X Mavericks last night and can no longer print.  Here are the error messages and steps I've taken:
    1) First I got "Error 16801"
To solve this I visited the Canon site to download the latest UFRII driver (v10.2.0) for the iR3380i
I removed the current printer, updated my driver with the new UFRII driver
    I re-added the printer
    2) Next I got "The printed output may be incorrect because the printer information has not been acquired. Start Printer Utility to get the printer information."
The only option at this point is to hit "OK".
    3) Next dialog box says "Cannot communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported. If the printer is supported, check the printer connection and add it again, then start Printer Utility to get the printer information."
Again, the only option I got was to hit "OK".
The printer icon appears in the Dock with a PAUSE symbol and the 1 Job Pending alert.
Opening the Printer Queue box shows one job in the queue.
Hitting "Resume" generates the dialog box "Cannot communicate..." again.
And that's it. I cannot figure out what else to do. Help please!

  • Mac Pro OS X 10.5 cannot print to Canon iR2220i

Hi, there - ! Having just migrated from PowerMac G5 OS X Tiger to Mac Pro OS X Leopard I find I cannot print to my Canon iR2220i via ethernet. All other printers - LaserWriter 16/600 , Brother laser colour, Epson Stylus Pro 3800 - are reachable. Have tried with original PPD as well as the most recent one from Canon's website, have tried Appletalk/IP-printing, etc. A specific iR2220i is and has not been available, but the iR2220 used to work.
Would be most grateful for advice here ...
    Best regards,
    Adam

    Hi Adam,
For the record, the Canon v1.81 driver does work on Leopard, so there must be something about your setup that is stopping it from working. Do you have the Firewall enabled on Leopard? I cannot remember ever testing if this causes an issue with the driver, but considering that the driver has to communicate with the printer to determine which model to select from its list, then an enabled Firewall could be the cause of the error.
As a test you could also create another printer queue but this time selecting Generic PostScript for the printer model. You can select IP > LPD for the protocol, which is what the PS driver would be using, and enter the IP address and queue name of LP. If you can get this queue printing then that confirms all the network and machine settings are okay and that something must be amiss with the Canon driver.
Note that there is also a PPD option for the Canon iR's. If you get the Generic PS working and want a bit more finishing support, then this can be another solution. You can download from here...

  • How to print to Canon irC5051 with Print Server?

    [edit] I am using 10.7.5 not 10.6.8 sorry [\edit]
My company recently upgraded to Canon Image Runner C5051 units.
They added print servers with authentication for follow me printing (print at any machine around the building by authenticating).
I have read tons of discussions, forums and google articles on how to get image runners to print with os x - yet to no avail.
I have downloaded both the recent drivers from canon (the PS and URII) updates.
I can only seem to connect to the printer using the "Windows" domain feature in the add printer settings.
    The Windows URL is \\printARL\ARLC-Secure.
I can ping the \\printARL and retrieve the IP address.  But I cannot do the same with the full path (\\printARL\ARLC-Secure)
Trying to LDP print to the printARL ip does not work.  I have no way of figuring out the full path ip address of the print server.
On my windows computer it shows "null" in the port/ip address on the PORTs tab.
So with URII I cannot identify the LDP ip address to use so if I connect via the windows domain it keeps returning error -50.
I guess this makes sense because its not LDP.
Using the windows search to connect and applying the Canon 5051 PS driver it seems to function.
It connects, allows to me authenticate, moves the file to the print server, and shows up at the printer.
But when I print, it does nothing.  No output.  ...sometimes it even makes the sound like it is printing, but then no dice.
If I try and Generic PS or PCL driver, it sends the document.
But when I print, it seems to produce a paper format error (thinks it LGL)
So if you force the printer to print to LTR, it spits out reems of giberish.
There must be something I am missing.

Sorry for missing your post. I don't check the 10.6 forums too often.
Reading your post it sounds like your are using uniFLOW, which is the follow-me printing app. So if you want to continue using this with the Mac there are a few things to note.
    1. The Mac UFR2 driver wants to communicate directly with the copier. With print jobs being routed via the Windows print server (uniFLOW secure input queue) there is no chance of there being two-way communication and this often causes the -50 error you mention.
The solution is to use the Canon PPD, but this would require the ADV C50xx to have the optional Postscript kit. And given the gibberish output you mention it would seem that this kit was not purchased. So I would be talking to the Canon rep. If they had scoped your business correctly and saw the Mac/s then the PS kit should have been ordered.
    2. You cannot ping the printer queue on the Windows server. So pinging \\printARL\ARLC-Secure won't work as you have found. But you can ping the Windows server, which you did and this worked. And, your issue is not due to an inability to connect to the Windows queue. It is a driver issue.
    3. Using the PS driver appears to work. Lets you authentice but does not print. This is due to the lack of the Postscript kit in the copier.
    4. Re the Generic PS, no PS kit means no printing. And the same goes for PCL.
So, in summary. The UFR2 driver is not designed to print via a Windows server. For your setup, the Postscript kit in the copier would solve your issue.

  • Cannot print to Canon iR C3080

I upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion.  (Had trouble -- after two calls to Apple Support, finally was directed to delete start up services and that corrected initial problems).
Now, I cannot print to networked Canon iR C3080.  I've downloaded, mounted/installed (I think) latest version of drivers from Canon, but everytime I add the Canon, system keeps using Version 2.0 as the driver.  I think it should be Version 2.7.
I've seen multiple posts saying to, "just" delete the old printer drivers using Finder in HD>Library>Printers.  I don't have a clue how to do that.  Where?  How?  This information -- "delete old printer drivers using Finder in HD>Library>Printers" -- doesn't explain how, to me.
    b.

Thank you very much for trying to help.
My Preview page doesn't show an "About" option.  I can open the same "Preview, Layout, Color Matching, Paper Handling, etc." menu -- I see the same first six options as your screen shot, above.  But instead of "Finishing, Quality, Special Features, About," at the bottom of the menu, instead I have "Paper Type/Quality, Advanced Print Options, Supply Levels" to choose from.  No "About".
So, tracing your final paragraph, I went to System Information (Applications>Utilities) folder.  I do not have a list of Printers on the left column. But using Finder's Go>Go to Folder menu, I can open /Library/Printers.  [Thanks again -- didn't know how to get there before.]  In that Folder, I see more folders for Brother, Canon, DYMO, Epson, hp, Lexmark, PPDs, and Samsung.
Trying to correct the problems, I first deleted the Canon folder by moving it to Trash.  Then I mounted the CanonPrinterDrivers.pkg that I previously downloaded from Canon's website.  (By double-clicking that package and following the installation dialogue prompts.)  Now, when I go back to the /Library/Printers folder, I again see Canon as one of the folders.  Within the Canon folder, I see two more folders, BJPrinter and IJScanner.  Within BJPrinter, I see several more folders:  Filters, Frameworks, PDEs, Plugins, Resources, and Utilities.  I don't see anything in any of those folders that tells me what Version of the Driver I have installed.
So I went back System Preferences > Print & Scan, and tried to add my Canon printer.  In the Add screen, I've selected the IP option, then went through the Address (192.168.x.x., where the x's represent the actual IP address of my networked printer), named the Printer, and hit the Add radio button.  Unsuccessful.  The software can't "find" the printer and even when I push through that error message, I get another saying to "reinstall the software" per the manufacturer's instructions.  (Isn't that what I did per the preceding paragraph?) Completely unsuccessful.  I don't even have the Canon printer listed in any Print dialogue.  (Before these efforts, the Canon printer would show up as an option -- but after trying to print to it, I'd get a failure notice, as set forth in my first posting here.)
I'd be happy to add in screen shots, if you'll tell me how to capture and paste them!
