Cannot print via AirPort since installing Snow Leopard

I can print if I plug the computer directly into the printer but that's a huge pain. Does anyone know where the problem might be coming from: the computer, the operating system, Aiport, or the print driver?
• MacBook Pro (Intel) > Airport Express (6.3) > HP LaserJet 1012

Looking at the treads in the printing section, it sounds like having older Airport Express base station means that I just have to wait until Apple upgrades the firmware (or changes something in Snow Leopard) to make wireless printing work. My current base station won't allow me to upgrade to firmware version 7.4.2. Grr.

  • Since installing Snow Leopard and Lion two weeks ago, my iTunes program opens seemingly at will.  It usually starts playing music, too.  What is causing this?

Since installing Snow Leopard and then Lion on my Intel-based iMac two weeks ago, my iTunes program seems to open at will whenever the computer is on.   It often begins playing music, as well.  What is causing this and how do I make it stop?

There are ways to minimize, mitigate, and help avoid a lot of problems.
    Bootable backups.
Zeroing a drive twice before using, and format it with SL DVD Apple Disk Utility for sure.
Even a clean install should import old apps without having to reauthorize.
If you must do an upgrade, do it from the SL DVD, after repairing the drive and be sure to use the SL version of Alsoft Disk Warrior (4.2).
Wait six months before jumping on a new OS.
10% is still too many. Yes, it is more sensitive to RAM and hard drive errors, doesn't like some controllers; most ext hdd cases; and enough software to make for test-only status. And it only IDs some known incompatible applications, drivers, extensions, etc and does not remove even those always in best manner.
Plus, there are problems with the new Rosetta and the cache files it now uses. So some apps and plug-ins will cause more trouble. Not all are ready. Good reason to hold off for the months it takes.
Other devices act different as far as on/off behavior.
(Migrating from G5s to Mac Pro can cause all kinds of problems, weird behavior, sluggish system, and why anyone that went down that road was strongly recommended to NOT use Migration Assistant for any of their applications, and to ONLY do clean/fresh installs of any apps. If you skipped that day, didn't read the Guide to M.A., or didn't want to do fresh installs then, your system could have been on borrowed time. If you did do clean install of applications, great.
Installing SL can result in a corrupt directory - I think and it "seems" to be happening, but no real proof, just gut feeling and instinct (underlying file system problem? weak sectors that pre-existed waiting to happen?).
Remember all the "there just aren't a lot of 64-bit drivers" for Vista and XP? it's come home to roost.
... my guess is not enough incense and offerings. To hop into TimeMachine and SuperDuper backup images and pull the 1TB for another day (week, month, year).

  • Why can't I open InDesign Docs in Bridge since Installing Snow Leopard?

I have CS3 Indesign. I have recently installed Snow Leopard. Since doing that I am unable to open Indesign files within Bridge. I get a very strange message that says 'missing required parameter 'from' for event open. What does that mean and can I fix it. If I drag my document to my desktop, most of the time it opens but sometimes it does not. I have to go up to the file menu and open from there. Is it a Bridge problem or is it an InDesign problem. Very annoying! Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?
Also since installing Snow Leopard, I am unable to open multiple files in Photoshop. Once again I am doing this from Bridge.
Any information would be most appreciated.

Does this older thread http://forums.adobe.com/thread/486185?tstart=90 solve your problem? Apparently, some characters are not (anymore!) allowed in file names.

  • Quicktime player problems since installing Snow Leopard

Since installing Snow Leopard my Quicktime plays weird. The are sharp horizontal streaks and glitches where the picture smears (the only way I can describe it). If I restart or shut down and restart, that sometimes resolves the problem, but for only a short while.
Any suggestions from any of you pro guys out there?

    Hi:
I'm not a pro, but I think I would download the OS X 10.6.4 combo updater and apply it. Something may have gone wrong with the initial update. Alternatively, I would reinstall OS X 10.6 from the software install DVD and then run software update.

    Sylvia,
There is a Office for Mac Product Forums, if now one here is able to answer I'd recommend posting on that forum.

  • My airport on my old MacBook is not working since installing snow leopard.

I installed snow leopard last week and started having problems maintaining connections to wifi. It got to the point it was not connecting at all. I have tried all the suggestions posted on online forms to no avail. I finally reinstalled Snow Leopard and have the same problem. I find this very upsetting as I have bought uniquely apple products for the past 13 years. I buy only apple software and I think as a loyal customer I deserve better than this....

I have tried all the suggestions posted on online forms to no avail.
Please describe in detail all you have attempted to do in order to resolve the issue in case there were things you missed.
I think as a loyal customer I deserve better than this....
I'm a loyal Chevy car owner and I am treated no differently than a first time Chevy owner.  Apple is just like any other huge corporation, they treat all their customers the same.  Doesn't matter if you're loyal or not.
    Mac OS X (10.6)
Use Software Update to update your os and anything else that needs to be updated.  You are seriously outdated for Snow Leopard.

  • Since installing snow leopard on my macbook itunes won't work

Since I installed snow leopard my itunes wont open it comes up with an error message   The fiel "iTuneslibrary.itl" cannot read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes,
Can someone help me through this.  Its very frustrating, I was forced to install snow leopard in order to download itunes 10, so that it would recongize my iphone.

Nothing should happen to the old content.  Still, you should make a backup first because once a month somebody claims something horrible did happen during an update and now they have lost all their music, their dog died, their car crashed, and they got a C- in English literature.  Oh, and it is all Apple's fault for not telling them they had to back up.

  • Why does my DVI to S Video adapter not work on my Macbook Pro since installing Snow Leopard?

The Apple DVI to S Video Adapter worked before installing Snow Leopard.  Now I just get a blue screen.

.wpl appears to be a Windows Media Player playlist. I can find no conversion software for that, and Windows Media Player is not available for Mac anymore.
If you can persuade him to download iTunes and create the playlist as mp3 in a iTunes playlist, or even just burn the base mp3 files to CD as a data disc, that's about the only solutions I can suggest.

  • Cannot print to Epson SP R1800 since installing Snow Leopard! :(

Since installing OS X 10.6 (followed by the updated Epson "drivers & utilities package" plus the common updater) on my Mac Pro, I can no longer print to my Epson SP R1800 printer.
When I attempt to print from within Photoshop CS4, the Photoshop print progress bar shows the file is being sent to the printer successfully, but when the printer dialogue box evokes, the print queue remains empty...
Can anyone please offer a solution?
    Susie

I had the same issue with my R2880. Uninstall everything Epson, reboot, then re-install, preferably with the latest drivers from the Epson website. My printer is now working again, but then my systems are still not working as they should as CS4 and Bridge crash at every opportunity.
I wish I'd never installed 10.6. I'll never install a new Mac OS again without it proving itself.

  • Since installing Snow Leopard 10.6.8 I can't print checks on Quicken 2006.  I also discovered that  my M.S. Word 2004 freezes and won't work when I try to "save as".

Since installation of Snow Leopard 10.6.8 a week ago, I have not been able to print checks on Quicken 2006.
Now I find that Word 2004 will not "save as" and freezes.
    Any help?

Unfortuantely you are victim of bad timing.  Apple did release a followup security update that fixes those issues. You can download it from:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1489
If issues still persist, the tip here:

May help your Microsoft Office issue as far as duplicate font clearing.

  • Can't print in Landscape mode since installing Snow Leopard

Since the installation of Snow Leopard 10.6.2 I can't print in landscape format from application such as Word, powerpoint, Turbo Cad, etc, on my network printer. This is despite changing my page set-up and printer settings My only work around at the moment is to print to a PDF document and print a hardcopy from there. Any thoughts...??

    Hi fruhulda,
1000 thanks for your help. I've tried everything you suggested. Nothing really fixed the problem except creating a new account. In the new account, I could open and use Pages documents I had created before I switched to Snow Leopard. And all of the functions seemed to work properly, including copy and paste.
In order to use my old, pre-Snow Leopard documents, I had to put them into a shared folder, so that I could access them from my new account. Does this mean I'm going to have to move ALL of my files from my old account into a shared folder, bring them into the new account, and make the new account my main account? If so, that seems like a lot of annoyance and a lot of work. Not that I'm blaming you--thanks for the fix. It just would have been nice not to have to start from scratch.
Also one or two worrying things came up when I did my disk repair, namely, the following two messages:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFramework/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Resou rces/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.
I did some looking around in old forums and other people have gotten these messages before and seemed to be pretty worried about them. I don't really understand what they mean, and I guess I'm wondering if I should be worried about them too.
Again thank you very much for your help so far.

  • Since installing snow leopard I cannot import photos from Kodak camera anymore..

I recently upgraded from 10.5 to Snow Leopard 10.6.3. Previously I had no problems importing photos from my old Kodak Easyshare camera into i-photo, but I now get an "unreadable files" message when I try to import photos. Is there any way to solve this please?

This could be your SD card in the camera.  Often, if the SD cards needs to be reformatted, this can occure.
You can try importing the images in Image Capture.  If this works, I would suggest reformatting the SD card, or replacing the SD card.
Try opening the application "Image Capture"
    - you should see the camera in the left hand column - select it
    - the images should load on the screen
    - in the bottom middle menu / "import to" , change to "iPhoto", then click "import" or "import all" or "download some" or "download all"
    - iPhoto will bounce, and display what is being imported

  • Application crashes/pixelation and remnants since installing snow leopard

Since a HD replacement and installation of Snow leopard 10.6.1 I get frequent application crashes accompanied by partial or complete pixelation of my display including freeze of finder.
Or, if not a total crash, I am getting lots of remnants around open application windows..like partial window frames..in black about 50 of them something like [[[[[[[[[[[[[application]]]]]]]]]]]].
What is up with this??? Can it be corrected.
Last week Apple store replaced my HD and loaded it with Leopard..and it really hasn't run very well since then? All these problems started. Should I just take it back and say;;NOT GOOD ENOUGH!! FIX THIS MESS!!
Just wondering at the problems and mess that are taking more time than I can give.

    HI Gary,
*Should I just take it back and say;;NOT GOOD ENOUGH!! FIX THIS MESS!!*
    Try the following first...
Run the Apple Hardware Test from your iMac install disk. (Not the SL disk).
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
Also, check the start up disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space
    *get frequent application crashes*
If these applications are 3rd party, then try deleting them. They may not be compatible with 10.6.

  • No video preview since installing Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I feel like a new-be but since installing FCP 7 and Snow Leopard I am having problems.
Right now if I put anything in the time line the canvas viewer only show a blank white screen.
Can anyone give me a cue as to what is going on or what aI set wrong?

Go to System Preferences > Displays > Display.
Switch the Colors button from Millions to Thousands then back to Millions again.
Yes, it is Stupid. No, it is not a proper fix. But it works.
Also, just to cover all bases, make sure your Viewer and Canvas are set up correctly:

  • Cannot print via AirPort Express

I bought Airport Express a few days ago and have connected the ethernet cable and have wi-fi running. However I cannot print wirelessly (the printer is connected to AirPort Express via USB) and everytime I try it fails to locate the printer. This is because the settings are old (I used to hav my iMac as a base station but now the printer is not connected to the iMac and is now connected to AirPort Express). Could somebody tell me how I can fix this problem.
    Thank you in advance

Thomas I did find this on HP's Web site. But beside this you may want to look for other (GIMP printer drivers that may accomodate the wireless compatibility).. HP does state:
Is my All-in-One product supported via the Rendezvous/Bonjour protocol?
NOTE: Bonjour is the new protocol for Mac OS X v10.4.
    ANSWER:
HP does not offer support for any All-in-One product via Rendezvous/Bonjour, however some products might work when plugged into an Airport Basestation via USB. These products might work with the print functionality only. See the list below for such products.
