Cannot Print Wirelessly thru Airport Express

I've seen this question before w/o an answer. I installed Airport Express, works beautifully and instantly like all Mac stuff. I can print ok from my iMac wirelessly thru Airport Express to an HP Photosmart 8450 connected to the Airport USB port. Then I try to print with my legacy machines (3 IBM Thinkpads w/ Win XP) wirelessly...it just doesn't work. I followed the instructions in the Express manual, created the port connection, etc., nothing. If I connect the USB cable directly to the Thinkpad it prints ok. I checked in the list and the printer is supported.
I've tried to find an answer for this for days. I know many people go thru the same. Hints? Thanks

Hello Carlos Camilion. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Have you tried installing Bonjour for Windows?

  • Cannot print wirelessly via AirPort Express with WPA2 Personal security

Recently decided to tighten security by switching to WPA2 Personal from WEP on our WDS wired/wireless home network. Main base station is Airport Extreme, WDS remote base station is an Airport Exress, both configured using Airport Setup Assistant. Printers are hardwired through the switch. No problem printing wirelessly when in range of the main base station, but when connected through the WDS remote base station, get the following error: "Unable to open [printername]: No route to host". Interestingly, if I first print when connected (wirelessly) through the main base station, I can then print wirelessly through the remote base station. When I go back to WEP security there is no problem. Anyone have any suggestions?

You may need to update your AirPort base station firmware to support WPA/WPA2 over WDS. (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107791)

  • I can't print wirelessly using Airport Express.  I have my HP printer connected to a USB hub, and the hub to the Airport Express, but when I select the HP from the printer list, my MacBook says the printer is "off-line" - even when it is not.

I can't print wirelessly using Airport Express.  I have my HP printer connected to a USB hub, and the hub to the Airport Express, but when I select the HP from the printer list, my MacBook says the printer is "off-line" - even when it is not.  I've tried several USB connectors, and several different ports on my USB hub; same result.  I need to have the HP connected to the hub 'cause from there it's connected to our desktop Mac.

    Hi,
I am currently replying to this as it shows in the iChat Community.
I have asked the Hosts to move it to Snow Leopard  (you should not lose contact with it through any email links you get)
I also don't do Wirelss printing so I can't actaully help either.

  • Connecting to wireless thru airport express (joined home network)

I have a wireless router in my bedroom, which is the source of internet connection.
I use the airport express to join this connection, and this airport express is now plugged in my living room.
the name of the wireless connection is "my_name room".
the name of the airport express is "my_name airport express".
i cannot locate the "my_name express" on my devices, including macbook pro, and iphone 5.
i can only locate "my_name room".
is this normal for using airport express as an extension of a network ?
    thanks in advance.

What are the benefits of extending a wireless network then ?
Unfortunately, you are not extending your wireless network since the Express is not compatible with your router for that purpose.
The benefits to extending a wireless network...assuming that your Express is working with a compatible wireless router.....are the same as "joining" with the added plus that the Express is also providing more wireless signal, so the wireless signal strength will be provided over a greater area.
Another question is, the only purposes of joining a wireless network are for AirTunes, and remote printing ?
As I mentioned above, the Express can be used for AirTunes or a remote printer when it is configured to "join" a network. It can only "extend" a wireless network when it is used with another Apple product. In that case, the Express is configured to "extend a wireless network".

  • Printing wirelessly with Airport Express to HP psc1350 suddenly stopped

I have an imac G5 running OS X 10.3.9. I am wirelessly connected to a router (D-Link 624) to run the internet and am also wirelessly connected to an airport express to print to my HP psc 1350. I set all this up myself and it was running without any problems. However, I decided that it was probably best to add some level of security to my internet connection so added WPA security into the mix. I had to reset the airport express and connect it back up to the network (which took me a little time to work out, but I managed to do it!) and then I tested the printer and it worked perfectly. A couple of days later I needed to print something so turned the printer on again and nothing. I kept getting an error about printer connection failing. So I thought, I'll unistall the HP software and reinstall it from the CD. Nope - the CD refused to install. So, I went to the hp page and found what I thought was the right software, and installed it and that seemed to install but not help the matter. I can see the printer under Rendezvous, but it says "driver not installed". Plugging the printer directly into the imac works fine so the driver must be installed. What I can't understand is that it all worked fine before, and even after I changed the security settings so surely that can't be the problem. But how do I get it back?

I had no choice but to run through the HP installer from the CD - there was no option to install the driver separately. I uninstalled the downloaded software that I had installed thinking it would fix it! The CD is old (well, at least 2 years old) so I don't think there is any chance the software on the installer could be too new. I had previously set up the printer to print wirelessly and it worked like a dream. I am positive that I did not go to that much trouble when I originally installed it - I would have given up! So it seems strange when I go through what I presume I did before that it won't work now. I thought macs were supposed to be easy - I guess it is if it is plug & play, but once something goes wrong it is hard to find what the problem is - especially for non-technical people like me!

  • Printing wirelessly via Airport Express w/ Win XP

Using Airport Express for internet connection and to print wirelessly. Had no problem setting up and connecting with my MacBook, iBook and Win XP computer. Installed Bonjour for Windows and set up printer, was able to print test page. However, every time I print something that is more than a few lines, my Win computer (only) loses network connection. Gains back connection fairly quickly but will not continue to print where left off.
When I installed the Bonjour for Windows, I remember reading something about unblocking certain ports if running firewall. I think that might be the problem but I am unable to find that information again.

  • Printing wirelessly via Airport Express to DSL hub to ethernet printer?

This seems like a fairly standard set up.
My iBook prints just fine when cabled directly to the DSL (Verizon/Westell Versalink 327W) cabled to the ethernet printer, and connects wirelessly just fine through the Airport Express (AX) cabled to the DSL hub, but I can't print wirelessly.
    My questions are:
    - The hub IP is 192.168.1.1, and the printer is 192.168.1.10. I changed the AX IP (Airport Admin Utility: Network) from 10.0.1.1 addressing to 192.168.1.1 addressing, but that didn't do anything. Does this matter?
    - In Airport Admin Utility: Internet, the router address is 10.0.36.1. Does this matter? Should it be 192.168.1.X?
Note: In the Printer Setup Utility, when the iBook is cabled directly to the hub, the printer is automatically identified when I type in the printer IP address under HP Jet Direct Socket, as 'HP Laser Jet 4000 Series' is automatically and correctly selected. This does not happen when connected wirelessly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The problem is that your wireless connection is creating a different subnet. To remedy this, configure the AirPort Express so that the option to distribute IP addresses is DISABLED.

  • Problems printing wirelessly via airport express using pc

Hey all, tried to reply to a post that had evaluated this issue but for some reason would not let me. I have an airport express hooked up to a brother 5140. My Mac prints fine. My Windows XP box however does not. I have setup bonjour for Windows and it recognizes the brother 5140 and installed all good. However when I try to print it errors out. Any help is appreciated.

using a linksys wrt610n by the way think a setting with my router may be the issue but not sure.

  • Cannot print wirelessly USB h/p Officejet 5610 connected to Airport Express

my iBook G4 is upgraded to Tiger v10.4.11. Can do successful printing tethered to USB printer. Want to print wirelessly. AirPort is active, indicator light is solid green. USB printer is plugged into AirPort Express. I clicked file, then print, then selected Bonjour printers-my printer. The iBk tried to add printer but I got the following message: "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer".
Can anyone out there help me? Many thanks. gold75

Were you able to previously use that same printer via AirPort Express,
& print wirelessly, with the USB wire plugged into the AirPort base unit?
Since I have the exact all-in-one HP printer/scanner/copier/fax model
by number, and have the downloaded HP drivers (a large file) to be
up-to-date, the HP device has never worked via USB plugged into AE.
Mine is the older AirPort Express 802.11b/g. All of my Macs see and
use the Epson printer attached to my AirPort Express; and like the OP
my HP won't do anything at all and is never seen connected via USB
to the base station. So I figured it was not supported. After looking for
about a year, I found little evidence it was capable of working via wi-fi
through the USB cabling to the base station; unlike some others.
I do have an Epson 820 Photo Stylus that always works well with the
same base station via USB cable; except for the ink status utility and
cleaning head utility, these only work when attached by USB cable.
The Epson also worked well with the last model orb-shaped AirPort
Extreme base station to print via the USB port; that is a superior base
unit with more capabilities, it's the printer & drivers with limitations.
If you do get the HP 5610xi or similar all-in-one to work, note back
here what drivers and/or configuration you used to accomplish that.
An older list, unofficial, of compatible printers that had been used under
some circumstances (airport firmware updates can change this) were
noted in this web page: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1013.html
A second page there suggests trying gimp or other drivers; the issue
in part may also be the airport firmware update in use. Printers not on
    the compatibility list: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1300.html

  • Print thru Airport Express under Fusion/Windows XP

I have a MacBook Pro (10.5.2), Airport Extreme Base Station, and a new Airport Express with an attached HP color laserjet. No problem printing wirelessly from OS-X. However, also running Fusion with WinXP and have been printing from there for months before getting the Airport Express. But now that the printer is connected Airport Express, can't print from Windows even after downloading Bonjour for Windows and loading Airport Utility app under Windows. Fusion/Windows doesn't see the Airport Express, and consequently the printer. Does anyone know if there is a setting I'm missing in Fusion or somewhere else.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jack

Just got it working: returned everything to factory settings, reinstalled everything and hoped for the best...

  • How do I set up wireless printing to my Airport Express?

I run my 17" MBP through a DLink wireless router which is located next to my modem in my basement. I have an Airport Express station (not the Base or the Extreme) which I used to use for wireless iTunes serving to my stereo, but which I now wish to use as a wireless print server in my study upstairs. I am not, however, using the Airport Express station for internet.
I can't find any useful instructions or step-by-step guides to set up a printer on my Airport Express. Can anybody point out how to do this and/or refer me to the appropriate KB article?
    Many thanks,

Yes but they don't seem to be making it to the post to be deleted Punctuation seems to be a possible cause
If your goal is to use one network with the AE and your other router online the AE needs to be connected to the modem as the base station as the AE can only be a wireless bridge with an Airport Extreme or connect the AE via ethernet from your other router
The printing is usually as easy as plugging in the printer and selecting it from your printer list AE is a print server and I use a 4 port hub with 4 printers connected They used to be listed as Rendezvous printers but lately mine are just showing as a connected printer but is printing wirelessly
Finder > Applications >Utilities > Airport Setup and Airport Admin utilities are pretty straight forward for setting up the routers. I have had and there are still issues being reported with the AE and certain configurations. My first gen MBP1.1 could see it but not connect and my MBP2.2 connected immediately and settings on both machines were the same.

  • USB printer not seen wirelessly on Airport Express through Airport Extreme

    Hey everyone,
I just bought an Airport extreme and a new Airport express for my house. I've got the Extreme in the basement where it is sending out wifi and directly plugged into a PS3 and the new Airport Express, which is 2 floors upstairs. The Express is upstairs In my office where it extends my wifi and also plugs into my iMac. I took the USB cable from the Samsung laser printer ('07 SCX-4521) from the back of the iMac and plugged it into the USB port on the Express so I could print wirelessly without having the iMac always on. I changed the settings on the iMac print preferences to now recognize the new location of the printer as being on the Airport Express. I tried to print a page from the iMac and had no problem, however I tried to print from my iPhone 4S and the printer wasn't even listed. I don't have the phone jailbroken, and all software on all machines and accessories are up to date, etc., so is there something obvious they I'm missing here? Can anyone help me out, please? The whole point of the Express was to allow me to print wirelessly and not have to move the printer to a bedroom in the basement.
    Thanks in advance!

Are you saying that the iPhone will print when the printer is connected to your iMac?
Or, will the iPhone not print when the printer is connected to your iMac?
The iPhone will not print when the printer is connected to the Airport Express.
Check this Apple support document to see if your printer is AirPrint compatible.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
If you find that the printer is not on the list of compatible devices, simply connecting it to the AirPort Express will not make it AirPrint compatible.
This is what I was afraid of. I talked to 2-3 Apple employees in the store and they said that most printers that can be used when directly connected to the USB port of a MB Pro, iMac, etc., would also be compatible with the Airport Express and would in turn make the printer AirPrint compatible. Obviously they were totally wrong. The printer itself has to be Airprint compatible and there really is no documentation in the new Airport Express Setup Guide or on the webpage that states that. My printer isn't Airprint compatible, therefore the ability to use this as a network printer on the Airport Express is useless. My only option is to connect it directly to the iMac and keep the iMac running (which is what I wanted to avoid).
Thanks for your help. Hopefully Apple can just come out and say this on the Airport Express box or on the AE website, as I guarantee I'm not the only one who wanted this capability. Other than that, both the Extreme and Express work very well and are simple to use, but I think I'll be taking back the Express as the Extreme's range is great.

  • How can I print from my IPAD3 to a printer connected to Airport Express?

How can I print from my IPAD3 to a printer connected to Airport Express? I have a HP printer and I can print from all my Windows PC and iMAC in the house. How can I print from my IPaD?

    You cannot.
The USB port on the AirPort Express allow sharing a printer with Windows and Mac OS X, not with iOS:
"Wireless printing over USB requires a compatible printer and OS X v10.2.7 or later, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7":
    http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/#wireless-printing
"AirPrint-enabled printers  connected using Bluetooth or shared through a USB port of a Mac, PC, AirPort Base Station, or Time Capsule are not supported":
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
The HP ePrint app also does not provide such functionality:
Can I print from the HP ePrint mobile app using USB or Bluetooth?
No. You can only print directly to supported HP printers on a local wireless network.

  • Printer recommendations for airport express

    Hi all,
I posted a question regarding printer compatibility with airport express. I already bought two and both were glitchy. I am trialing a canon s520 with the view of buying the new model. I put up a post, and got a lot of answers. Unfortunately some say one thing and some say the other. I have noticed that when there is a serious issue with apple equipment, the answers become garbled like this. BTW the s520 hangs a lot. So canon is out. Best advice i got from a couple of posts was dont both with wireless printing via AE. Buy a printer with its own wireless set up.
Dont get me wrong, i love the discussion groups and the advice i get.
    My question is this..
Does airport express really work PROPERLY for wireless printing. I thought is was great feature. Would love to continue using it. But since tiger, i seem to have had a lot of time wasting problems. Is apple losing it... And surely they must have a list of recommended printers to work with AE.

    My question is this..
Does airport express really work PROPERLY for
    wireless printing.
Yes I have managed to get various printers working PROPERLY with my Airport base stations.
And surely they must have a list
of recommended printers to work with AE.
    There is the unofficial list.
The iFelix unofficial Airport Extreme and Airport Express Printer Compatibility List
    http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1013.html
This is an unofficial list of USB printers which are are compatible with the AirPort Extreme Base Station and Airport Express. Printers in bold have been added to the original list that Apple provided. Printers in dark red are in fact the only printers I have personally tested.
Please also note that due to changes in the firmware of both the Airport Extreme base station and the introduction of the Airport Express some printers which are in this list may no longer in fact be compatible.
