Cannot publish new .htm file with Contribute
A client of mine is having an issue with a webpage he
maintains daily using the Contribute package, and one major problem
has come up while trying to add new features to his presentation.
Instead of linking directly to a file as has been done in the past,
his primary web designer has created a new pop-up style (on demand)
window that presents video in one portion and an advertisement in
the rest. Unfortunately, this option did not come with an
associated template - he merely configured the page to link to a
.txt file as Contribute would not let the user (Administrator)
upload a new .htm file.
My question if anyone might have a few moments to respond, is
whether or not this is a feasible thing to manage? .txt files work
in Internet Explorer browsers, but fail on more standards compliant
options such as Firefox or Apple's Safari (3.0 beta tested on PC,
other versions tested on MacOS X) in which case they merely result
in the presentation of a plaintext file in a pop-up window.
Can a new template be created in Contribute, and files
generated from this? Is this a technical quick-fix situation, or a
more involved problem that requires Dreamweaver or other template
creation options?
Sorry to be rather vague on this one, it's a particularly
complex situation (with a bit of a time crunch) on the user end,
and I'm hoping to track down any information I can.
- J. Johnston
Sorry about being rather vague there, I had the client
sitting with his head literally peeking over my shoulder and that
made things a little trickier to actually parse a few times in my
own head before posting.
I went through and learned a bit about roles yesterday when I
was trying to tackle this issue, so what you're suggesting does
sound like what I tried to do. However, there were two issues that
I ran into that remained a problem. First, I couldn't tell what
role his Contribute was configured to use on his website. It
appeared to be Administrator, and the one user account set up in
the roles listing is his, but even with this set, I still got the
error message saying I didn't have permission to create new .htm,
.html, .php, etc. pages on the site.
His website was initially created by a rather poor designer,
whose idea when confronted with being unable to upload .htm files,
was to use the .txt extension - because "Internet Explorer treats
.txt as HTML, so what's the loss?"
The essence of what the client is trying to accomplish, is
this: He produces video content for a local news website, and
uploads a handful of videos every weeknight. In the past, his
webpage has simply offered a link where users clicked on an image
and immediately downloaded a .wvx file which loaded up Windows
Media Player (or Quicktime with Flip4Mac installed) and played his
playlist of advertisements and news content. His new method
involves clicking a link, which pops up a new window, which plays
the video file embedded with an advertisement next to it in a
table. These pop-up pages are the ones that don't seem to want to
transfer up through Contribute.
I hope this clarifies things a little, and I really
appreciate your help.

Cannot "open with" a htm file with dreamweaver :((
As the title states, I am trying to open my htm files with
dreamweaver, which should work as it worked before on another
computer. However, already when I installed dreamweaver on this
computer I got a message saying that my computer is a little
retarded, as although it's windows xp it does not have the latest
update or whatever.
But anyhow, I don't see how this has something to do with my
problem (but maybe you do?) : If I right-click on the htm file and
then click "open with", dreamweaver is not listed as a program at
all. If I click browse and search for it manually, mark it &
click "ok" it still opens the file with internet explorer.... grr
Did anyone have this problem before? Is there a way to fix
it? Please, I'm very desperate here and your help is very very
welcome!
Thanks a lot!is this file you want to open a local site folder?
open dreamweaver.
dw menu->site->manage sites
define a new site to the folder that contains this file.
then open the file from the dw Files Panel

Create new project files with uploaded word document
How do I create a new project file with an uploaded word document. I tried to follow the guidelines using the Robohelp PDF file but after I upload the word document, I cannot see it in the workspace. Are there other steps to bring the document into Robohelp 9. I am using the trial version and have never used Robohelp before.
Thank you!I was finally able to fix my problem and I hope to publish this in as many pages as I can. First I had the exact same issue. My file was password protected (the one I used as a shell for a new project) spent two hours of work, went home and next
day “Nothing” same errors. Cannot open file etc. etc. So after two hours searching the net I found this company that has a
Project Repair Toolbox that is cloud based for FREE (no useless downloads).
I went in > It asked me for the file that I had on my local drive > prompted me for the password and > BAM! the file opened right up. Since it as viewer only I was able to at least begin re-typing the project plan which was small in nature.
Check it out, hope it works for you.

Upload new pdf file with the same name
We are trying to upload a pdf file with a specific name (i.e
file.pdf) that has links to it on many pages of a website. We need
the pdf file to keep the same name but when we try to upload it,
Contribute is being 'smart' and changing the name so as to not
overwrite the file on the server. But we WANT to overwrite the file
on the server. Any ideas on how we can achieve this in Contribute?
Thanks so much (in advance) for your help!Actually, we have the same problem and I believe the answer
lies in the abilities that your role has assigned to it. The
solution that ThinkInk gave works *if you are allowed to delete
files*. If your role doesn't have that permission, then it will
just upload another copy of the file and rename it.
It's rather irritating that there isn't more control over
this...our server is littered with *thousands and thousands* of
duplicate files that originate from this situation.
If your administrator wants you to be able to delete files as
well, then you could get him/her to give you that permission, and I
believe this will allow you to overwrite the file by using the
"Publish file from my computer" option described above. -
Cannot open a a file with a specific file name
I have 1 person who cannot open or save a file with a specific file name on his computer. If he does it at another computer he is fine, no one else has this issue. The error he gets when trying to open the file is { Cannot create file:missingperson.pdf. Right-click the folder you want to create the file in, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder}
Any ideas on how to resove this. He gets this file sent to him on a regular basis, and cannot have the file name changed.
Thank youI have run across something similar. Assuming that this PDF they are getting through email is the same name, then this is how I fixed my problem.
When you get a file in an email and open it, it writes that file to the Temporary Internet Files folder. Lets assume the file name is filename.pdf If you open a file from email with the same name at a later time, it creates a file called filename(1).pdf. Open a file with the same name again, it creates filename(2).pdf, and so on. Once you get to filename(99).pdf, it will start giving you a lot of trouble. When I cleared out those filename.pdf's, everything went back to normal.
Hope this helps. -

Cannot open a TIFF file with Photoshop CS5
I have enclosed the URL to a TIFF file. I am not able to open this file using Photoshop CS5, as it says unsupported file with this version. I didn't face this problem before.

Thanks in advance.Something must have corrupted someting in the file so newer versions of photoshop won't open it.
I was able to open it in photoshop 3, ImageReady and also paint and a couple of other non adobe image editors/viewers.
Though the transparency didn't seem to survive.
If have you some other image editors or viewers you might try those. -
Cannot access the locked files with Access TrueSuite Manager
I have locked files with access TrueSuite manager. My Windows bug and now I can not access these files locked.
When you try to unlock, I get error and I can not read these documents.
Thanks.
Excuse my poor English.I found this document:
Useful information regarding file protection with the AuthenTec Fingerprint software
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9C02RC0001R01.htm
Possibly you will not be able to unprotect the files again
But try that backup the data on the external HDD or somewhere else.
Then reinstall this software and import the data back from external source.
Then try to unlock this again -

Cannot open the SWF file with firefox
right click open SWF files with IE,it's ok , but with firefox opening it ,point out that can't find the application
IE uses a Flash ActiveX control.<br />
Google Chrome comes with its own flash plugin (gcswf32.dll)(libgcflashplayer.so)<br />
Firefox uses a different Flash plugin.
Your above posted list of installed plugins doesn't show the Flash plugin for Firefox, so you need to install that Flash plugin.

Cannot publish new password protected sites to MobileMe using iWeb
Recently been getting the familiar iWeb error messages when publishing from iWeb to mobile me:
"There was an error updating MobileMe"
"An error occurred while publishing file '/Web/Sites/Sites.rss"
"Publish error: An unknown error occurred"
Did all the troubleshooting stuff detailed here - problem persists.
Today, tho', I've just noticed that these errors *only occur when I'm trying to publish a new password-protected site or trying to apply password-protection to an existing unprotected site*.
It works just fine when publishing a site which is not password-protected. It is also possible to modify an existing password-protected site without any trouble.
There's nothing odd about the passwords - all legal characters etc.
It would be better for me and my users if I could have password protection on my sites. Without passwords, I'm left relying on 'security by obscurity' - not ideal.

You could split up your single Domain file into several Domain files each containing a group of sites. You'll have to duplicate (via Finder) the Domain file usually located here:
...and then double-click one of the copies to open it in iWeb. Then delete the site(s) you don't need from it. Repeat the process until you have a more manageable group of Domain files each containing several (or just one) site(s). Note that this process is not easily reversible, i.e. merging Domain files. Read more in Chapter 2 here:
http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebMultiplewebsites.html
With "many, many sites", this splitting process is not without risk — so before doing anything, don't forget this:
