Cannot publish to Robohelp Server 8

Hello All,
Well let me start by stating that I am a systems administrator but I have had no experience setting up Apache, Tomcat or Robohelp Server.
This bomb has been dropped in my lap cause I am typically the goto guy. The company has an intranet site with a help section that was created and currently resides on a windows 2000 server with RSC 2.3, and RoboEngine 4.1.  I have been tasked with setting up new server which will be windows 2003 server 32 bit OS.
Ok. I have followed all the Robohelp Server 8 getting started instructions (page5-6) on how to setup Apache Web Server with the Tomcat servlet for Robohelp server 8. I feel darn near 100% that I have gotten all of that correct. In other words everything tests correctly.  I.e., going to http://localhost shows me the proper index.htm.  I can access the tomcat manager using default UN and PW.
So I installed Robohelp Server 8 on the F:\Adobe RoboHelp Server 8\robo\server partition.  I did create more than one context but am just trying to publish to the default robohelp.  I create 3 areas.  I do see the context's listed in Tomcat Manager and they all show as started.
I have created a simple project with one help file in Robohelp HTML software.  I can generate it and it looks fine. I then configure the the WebHelp Pro Single Source Layout to publish to  Robohelp Test Server, server *****WUIT002 (my test server), robohelp adds /robohelp/server automatically. I use admin, admin as username and PW.  I attempt to select an area but get the error 'Unable to get area list from server'. Ok. that is not a good sign.  But I save and attempt to publish anywho...to no avail(of course). I receive the message "Warning: Failed to publish to "Robohelp Test Server". reason: Unable to connect to the RoboHelp server on *****wuit002. If RoboHelp Server is not being used, generate WebHelp instead. More information on RoboHelp Server is available in the help file.."
I have looked at permissions to the partition and Robohelp server directory. I have basically completely opened them up just to see if that was the issue and I am still having a problem. Help Please. There is so little info out there regarding this product.

Hello John,
Thank you for your help. Hopefully you can shed some insight into this for me.
Here is the log directory zipped up.

Subject: Cannot publish to Robohelp Server 8
Oh, one more thing, uvwaves. Regarding your note about, " I attempt to select an area but get the error 'Unable to get area list from server'."
I realize this is disconcerting, but usually not a problem and may be ignore (as you did.) If left blank, the "general" area is assigned by default.
However, the other error, "Warning: Failed to publish to "Robohelp Test Server" is quite another matter and hopefully the logs will help me.
Thanks

  • Publishing to RoboHElp Server 9 with RH 9 does not refresh the webhelp pro toolbar

    Hi,
    We have an issue with publishing to RH9 Server from a RH9 project.
    When we open the published file from this URL:
    http://ntrobohlpd02:8080/Robohelp/server?prj=Tests_2_Entreprise_FR
    The toolbar (where the TOC, index etc. icons are displayed) comes from another project:
    The toolbar that should display is this one (large green and grey icons):
    Why does the server show the whkin_tbars.htm from another project?
    Really weird.
    We've tried to restart the server as mentionned by Adobe tech support when I contacted them. It worked once, but will we need to restart the server every time we want to publish?
    Thanks

    Presumably the same does not happen if you view the help from the generated location. What happens if you launch the help from the server or from the Web Administrator?
    I always suggest that people manually delete all the files from the server area location before they publish their output. The publish process is unlike the generate process. It is effectively just a copy an leaves all sort of unnecessary files behind from the previous publish. By publishing to a "clean" location you know that the content is good.
    You may also want to delete your browser cache. This has been known to cause confusion by displaying a cached (and therefore old) file. Let us know how you get on.

  • Unable to publish to RoboHelp Server 7

    When I attempt to publish a RoboHelp 7, Webhelp Pro project
    to RoboHelp Server 7 it creates the files on my computer but when I
    select Publish, it generates the error "Warning: Failed to
    publish to "Robohelp 7 Server". reason: Unable to
    connect to the RoboHelp server on 'ip address'." The login
    and password have administrator rights. Does anyone have and idea
    why it will not publish to the server.

    We discovered an incorrect URL. We no longer get the error
    message however, we are still unable to publish to the server.
    WebHelp Pro creates the files and, after I click Publish, it
    displays the progress graphic and never finishes. The progress bar
    never changes and I have to use Task Manager to end the RoboHelp
    program. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

  • RH 8 and RoboHelp Server 8

    Hello Everyone,
    I need some guidance on how to publish WebHelp Pro to RoboHelp Server 8.  We received an error message:  "Warning: Failed to Publish to "RoboHelp Server". reason:  Cannot connect to server:  XXXXXX".
    We're able to access the RoboHelp Server Web Administrator so we're not sure what we need to do correctly to publish our WebHelp Pro to RoboHelp Server 8.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

    I notice that you do not appear to have any area specified in the New Destination dialog. If you click the Refresh button to the right of the Help Area dropdown and then select the area you wish to publish to. Let us know how you get on.

  • RoboHelp Server 8 reports - printing to a file for distribution

    I've been using RH7 WebHelp Pro layout to publish to RoboHelp Server 8 default database for about 2 weeks now. We've got F1 help linked to our windows and everything seems to be working fine except for the following:
    #1 - As noted in a previous posting, if quotes are used around search keywords, then the html code for quotes displays in the details of the Frequently Asked Questions or Unanswered Questions reports. I've reported this as a bug as well. It really makes the report results a pain to read, especially when someone uses quotes and another doesn't for the same keywords.
    #2 - Although I can view and print any of the RoboHelp Server 8 reports, there is no way for me to save it to a pdf format so that I can distribute the report to managers that are not local. If there is a way to do this, I would appreciate knowing what steps need to be taken so that I can produce a pdf file on the server.

    There is currently no way to save the report data from the RH Server application. Personally I'd like the option to save it in a number of different formats with PDF being just one. How about .XLS, .TXT, .RTF for starters. However as this doesn't exist this is really helping you. You should be able to get the data out of the RH Server database by using an external reporting tool (e.g. Crystal) that specialising in this sort of thing.
    I'd also strongly suggest that you submit a feature request to get this functionality added to a future release. When you do so, please state that it is for RH Server in the comments field.

  • Trying to publsh changes to my website. I get a message "There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider." I did, and all my settings are correct, but still cannot publish

    Trying to publsh changes to my website. I get a message "There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider." I did, and all my settings are correct, but still cannot publish.
    Any other ideas?

    Most likely you are suffering from a bug in iWeb that doesn't let you publish websites if an image you have added to your site begins with space. You can either search for that image and remove it.

  • Can't Publish from Robohelp HTML 7 to Robohelp server 8

    Please help. I have looked everywhere for answers. Here is my problem.
    Environment
    I have a windows XP machine with robohelp html 7 and the 7.0.3 patch installed. I am testing the trial version of robohelp server 8 for 30 days. The installation of the robohelp server 8 application when ok. I think. I am able to login as admin in the robohelp server web adminstrator application and also able to go the main page (http://mvrobohelp:8080/robohelp/). The congratulations! screen appears.
    Problem
    When I published the webhelp pro project from the workstation, it does its thing and end with the message that said "successfully published to "Bankway Headquarters".  I go to the robohelp 8 server and login as admin and I do not see the project "Bankway Headquarters" in the projects screen under the general area. It looks like the robohelp server does not finish publishing the project.
    Client PC messages
    Finished applying Template in 6 sec(s)
    Finished compiling WebHelp Pro in 378 sec(s)
    Successfully published to "Bankway Headquarters".
    Thanks for any help in advance

    Hi Jose,
    We have been using RH7 client to publish to RS8 server for about 2 months now. We have a master project/subproject setup and we too have been unable to get the Web Administration tool to allow us to see our projects by using the "View Project" button. They are listed under projects, but do not display correctly. Also, we are unable to see our complete master project with all of the embedded subprojects using the URL that Adobe supplies (e.g., http://<server>:<port>/robohelp/server). The Adobe response to this was that there was something wrong with our publishing mechanism (whatever that means!).
    However, the good news is that we can view our projects just fine by using this path instead: http://<server>:<port>/robohelp/robo/server/general/projects/<master project>/<master project start page.htm>
    Now, we are not using any of the context or area stuff so this works. We were also told that in bypassing the default method, we would be unable to get the usage statistics (e.g., frequently asked questions, etc). However, we have not experienced this. We are able to collect the metrics and access the reports using the Web Administration tool.
    I'm not sure if this will satisfy your requirements, but for us, that was the only way to get to our project to view the complete master/subproject setup. Let me know if you figure out a different solution. I'd be very interested in doing this the "right way" if we can get it to work.

  • Cannot publish to MobileMe - "Cannot Connect To Server"

    I want to publish some of my albums to MobileMe, but when I try to do so I get an error message the the effect that it cannot connect to the server. I have published several other albums successfully, but I have three that won't make the journey no matter what I do. The album "placeholder" is established in MobileMe, but they contain no pictures.
    What I do is to open the album in Aperture, then "select all" of the pictures in that album, then attempt to publish to MobileMe by clicking the MobileMe icon in the menu bar.
    This has happened repeatedly for several attempts. Any ideas?

    I've had that once. I used the same name for 2 images. Aperture handles it no problem, but I couldn't upload it to mobile me... After renaming 1 of the images the problem was solved...

  • Can I publish my RoboHelp project directly to a web server using the Generate Primary Layout (WebHelp) function?

    I am hoping to improve my method of publishing my company
    Knowledge Base.
    Currently, I generate the RoboHelp layout to a folder on my
    local computer and then manually upload the project output files to
    our sever via SmartFTP. My question is how do I publish directly to
    the server? Is this possible?
    On the first page of the Generate Primary Layout "wizard", I
    have entered the path to a local folder on my computer. Three
    screens later in the Servers box of the "wizard", I have entered a
    server and path, and checked its box. When I generated the output,
    I expected it to be published to both locations: the local folder
    and the web server folder. But it only publishes to the local
    folder, not the web server.
    How do I get it publish to the server also?
    Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
    ~Beth

    I had been using the HTTP setting, so switched to FTP and
    filled in server info. This time the Publish function began
    working! However, the process has since hit a snafu.
    Certain files are causing errors and I'm getting a message
    such as this one:
    Publishing has been cancelled. Failed to create file: image
    235.jpg
    When I click OK to the first error message, I then get this
    one:
    Publishing has been cancelled. Failed to create file:
    bsscftp.txt
    After clicking OK to the 2nd error msg, the Publish fails and
    I get this:
    Warning: Failed to publish to "help". reason: Canceled by
    user.
    I have run through the Publish a couple times now and various
    files cause the 1st error, but the 2nd file is always that same txt
    file. I realize this snafu may be particular to my situation but
    any ideas?

  • RoboHelp Server 7 Help System Errors

    Whenever I publish my RH 7 Help project to server, I check
    the RoboHelp Server Web Administrator for errors. I always get Help
    System Error "Requested file cannot be found" for a file called
    bsscfp.txt. To my knowledge, this is a control file generated
    during the publishing process. If this is the case why is an error
    being generated for a file I have no control over? Also, I find the
    Troubleshooting section of RoboHelp Server Web Administrator to be
    rather useless in correcting issues. Is there any reference
    documentation that explains some of the cryptic error messages that
    appear in the Server Web Administrator screen?

    Hi, ouque and welcome to the forum.
    Just to clarify your setup. When you say "Project pane" are
    you referring to the Configuration Manager on the server itself.
    Or, are you referring to something you are seeing from the RoboHelp
    authoring client app's Server Administration pane?
    If you have access to the actual server desktop and view the
    Configuration Manager, sometimes on a new installation, you can do
    a "refresh" and the project will show up.
    A few more questions:
    Have you tried accessing the website and does the project
    come up in the web browser?
    On what kind of web server did you install RHS7? Windows
    2003, etc.?
    Is Microsoft Indexing Services turned on?
    Apparently you were able to successfully publish your project
    to the server so there is "communication" between your desktop and
    the server I gather.
    A few more details and we'll try to help.
    Thanx,
    john

  • RH7 - connection error when try to access RoboHelp Server 8 from Pod menu

    I'm using RoboHelp 7 with WebHelp Pro layout to publish my project(s) to RoboHelp Server 8.  I've got RHServer 8 set up and can view the Admin window when I access the server.
    However, locally when I open my project in RH7, I get a "Connection to Server Failed" message below when I select View > Pods >  RoboHelp Server and then click "Connect Now" on the RoboHelp Server tab.
    Connection to Server Failed - The server you entered in the Properties dialog for the primary layout cannot be contacted. Please verify the spelling or contact your system administrator to verify the server is running.
    This makes no sense because I'm able to view the project published to the server via File > View Primary Layout from Server.
    I'm also able to publish my updated project files to the server without a problem.
    FYI - I'm still testing RoboHelp 8 and when I select the RoboHelp Server option indicated above, I am able to view the Admin window prompts in RH8 on the RoboHelp Server tab.
    So why can I see the Admin function in RH8 but not in RH7?

    Hi,
    Glad that somebody else too got this problem. Well, as I had mentioned in my previous posting too, I think there are some procedures in the package, dbms_lob, like the writeappend, createtemporary etc.. which is not found in my dbms_lob.sql file, I am using 8.0.5, but I found these procedures in the 8i, I think it is becos of that.
    By the way if anybody got this solution and got any workaround, please help me too.
    I am still waiting for the solution to that.

  • Re: RoboHelp Server 8

    hi vivek / adobe engineer,
    please help : )
    I am trying to get robohelp server 8 to work in a test environment to evaluate it. I have gotten it up and running and have integrated the tomcat with IIS 7 on server 2008. My problem now is I would like to get robohelp to authenticate with LDAP. I find the documentation on doing this to be confusing and vauge. (even our resident AD expert is stumped)
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/RoboHelp/8.0/RoboHelpServer/WS9DE2BAEA-1C51-4a90-8252-039D7502 30C0.html
    If anyone is firmiliar with editing the robohelp_server.properties file to achieve ldap authentication, thier expertise would be greatly appreciated
    im basically looking for someone to explain what this file is looking for, I can get it to hit the server but i always get a 525 error.
    This is what im working off of:
    Enable user authentication
    The Web Administrator interface enables you to segregate the Help content published on the server into protected and public areas. Only authenticated users can view the content published in protected areas, but no authentication is required to view content published in public areas.
    Note: You do require authentication to publish content to public or protected areas.
    By default, RoboHelp Server creates a public area, general. All the RoboHelp HTML 7 projects are published to the general area only.
    Important: You cannot make this area protected and it cannot be deleted.
    To make an area protected, you can select the Protected area option in the Users page of the Web Admin interface. You can define several sets of privilege groups and assign different rights to different users. These rights include view only, publish, admin rights, and viewing reports. You can manage the groups and their privileges from RoboHelp Server Web Admin pages. RoboHelp Server 8 provides user authentication through both database and LDAP.
    Authenticate LDAP users
    You can use the <context-name>_server.properties file to authenticate an LDAP user or an administrator. Do the following:
    Comment the authtype = db property, specify your LDAP username in the DefaultAdminUid property, and do not specify your LDAP password in the DefAdminPwd property.
    Uncomment and specify your organization LDAP details:authtype = ldap
    ldapURL = ldap://ldapserver:389
    usersearchbase = ou=people,o=org
    rolesearchbase = ou=groups,o=org
    useridkey = uid
    rolename = cn
    rolesearch = uniqueMember
    Restart the Tomcat service to log in as an LDAP user.

    here is what i think your looking for... D:\tomcat\logs\localhost.2009-05-27.log

    We are in a wierd situation because adobe asked us to evaluate the software before we purchase but wont help us with this because we havent purchased.

  • Cannot Retrieve Page From Server

    This is driving me nutso
    This is robohelp server 7.
    When trying to publish our test site, we're getting the error that I've attached.
    Basically, it says: cannot retrieve page from server...status:500
    I can browse to the site. Just can't get robo to publish.
    Is it a permission problem...a service not running...something else?
    Thanks
      Doug

    Hi there
    Out of curiosity, why did you choose to attach the image as opposed to using the Camera icon to insert it inline?
    I'm very curious because it seems everyone seems to choose operate that way.
    Cheers... Rick

  • RoboHelp Server 8 Displays Blank Page When Going through the Engine

    Here is my issue.
    I have 6 projects between 2 areas on our RoboHelp Server 8.  I have
    never had any problems publishing to the server, our IT department had no problems setting up the server including
    installing Tomcat.  We've changed the port so it would run on the default http port 80.  Everything was running smoothly until this morning.  When we go to the link that is used to run through the engine (i.e. http://server name:port/robohelp/server?prj=project name&area=areaname), instead of the redirecting page that we normally get, we get a blank white page that shows done in the status bar.  Our IT department has tried to restart the server, did not fix the problem, they tried to restart the services (i.e. Tomcat and the RoboEngine), did not fix the problem.  I have tried to connect to the server through the RoboHelp development interface and I get an Connection to Server Failed error.  I have checked the publishing interface for Webhelp Pro ,which is what we use and all the setting are correct.  When I try and refresh the area I get the Unable to get area list from server.  We can get to the projects as if what we are using Webhelp.  We would use regular Webhelp but that does us no good because then there is no reporting features because it is not running through the engine.
    When I go though the Web Admin Interface and try to look at the project section we get an Server is refreshing project data, try again later.  This is the same error we have received all day.    I'm now stuck and don't know what to do or try.  Between my IT dept and myself we tried everything we can think of.
    Just another tidbit so it can be ruled out.  I have applied the patch to my copy of RoboHelp 8.0.2 patch.  And since I'm the only developer right now, that should not be the issue.
    I have not tried to delete the project form the server, because
    a. I can't see them in the projects pane so I can't delete them and
    b. I cannot connect to the server to re-publish them.
    Any advise in the matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ian

    Hi Ian,
    Just zip them up and send them to me in a private message.

  • RoboHelp Server 8/Active Directory

    Hi again,
    After moving my install of RoboHelp Server from our Windows Server 2008 R2 server to an older Windows Server 2003 Web Edition box, I was able to get RoboHelp Server talking to SQL Server 2008 through ODBC.  Now on to the next problem.  I've been trying to configure LDAP authentication against Active Directory, which I can see from a post from NSC_Gillis last August, it looks like there's a problem here.
    My setup now consists of:
    RoboHelp Server 8 installed on Windows Server 2003 Web Edition with Tomcat 6.0.26 and JRE 1.6.20.
    The relevant config section from my <context_name>_server.properties file:
    #To use LDAP authentication , uncomment the following...
    authtype = ldap
    ldapURL = ldap://<subdomain>.<domain>.com:389
    usersearchbase = DC=<subdomain>,DC=<domain>,DC=com
    rolesearchbase = DC=<subdomain>,DC=<domain>,DC=com
    useridkey = uid
    rolename = cn
    rolesearch = member
    DefAdminUid = <UidOfAdmin>
    DefAdminPwd =
    This yields one of ththe following two results when attempting to subsequently log in to the Web Administrator interface:
    Error in LDAP authentication.
    javax.naming.AuthenticationException: [LDAP: error code 49 - 80090308: LdapErr: DSID-0C0903A9, comment: AcceptSecurityContext error, data 52e, v1db0
    Error in LDAP authentication.
    javax.naming.AuthenticationException: [LDAP: error code 49 - 80090308: LdapErr: DSID-0C0903AA, comment: AcceptSecurityContext error, data 325, v1772
    Both of these errors indicate that when RoboHelp Server is attempting ldap_bind(), that it is doing so with bad credentials. When it comes to Active Directory, these credentials have to be in the form of a valid User Principal Name (UPN) and a password, which given the configuration data above, we're never able to provide one.  And since I've been able to configure Tomcat itself to use a JNDI Realm for authentication successfully against the same said Active Directory, I have to assume RoboHelp Server is attempting to do an anonoymous ldap_bind() which just won't work with Active Directory.
    If someone can provide some guidance at this point, I'd be grateful.
    I admit, for a product that is released only for use on the Windows platform, to include LDAP functionality, but then break it so it won't work with Active Directory, or at least to provide little to no guidance/documentation on how to get it to work, seems patience testing at the least.
    If we cannot get this resolved, we will be forced to review our future use of the RoboHelp/RoboHelp Server products as a whole.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
    RoboHelp Server doesn't do an anoymouse LDAP bind. It uses the ldap user id and password provided in the properties file. Please note that for RoboHelp Server configured with LDAP, "DefAdminUid" property in robohelp_server.properties should be set to a valid LDAP user principal and "DefAdminPwd" property should be set to LDAP password of that user principal.
    Regards
    Tulika.
