Cannot put dissolve/iris into timeline

When I edit my movie i cannot put dissolve/iris into the "timeline". I did however succed with doing it in one frame, but cannot do between any of the other frames (between edit points)?
I Try to do it like the tutorial suggested: http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/tutorials/ (transitions) but with out any luck.
I posted a couple of screenshots here: http://public.me.com/nyhus
What am i doing wrong?

It is not working because you are trying to put it between 2 complete clips.
If you cut a second off the end of each clip where the transition will go, you will find that it works.
If you read this article you will have the whole process explained more carefully:-

  • Cannot drag MOV videos into timeline

    Hi there,
So i have weird problem now with MOV files. After dragging into timeline the second one, different from the first one, I can't drag any more files. Including the first one, or other non-mov files. If I drag just the first one i can repeat it many times. In this case I can continue with other types. But then I cant add any movs. There is only audio to be moved.
What I can do is open it new sequence, and then use this single file sequence on primary timeline.
    This is very annoying.
    Please help.

Hmm, am not sure about codec; footage was shoot with iPhone 5. I can check it when I'm at computer.
QuickTime have been not updated recently I suppose.
One more fact I found last night - I can drag those files from new sequence into main timeline. Another words - I need to create new sequence for each single file, then I can use many in main timeline.

  • Cannot drag video transitions into timeline on FCE

Just picked up FCE today and have imported an imove '09 project correctly into FCE. Transitions were able to be dragged down into timeline at first but now do not work. Have I done something wrong here?

  • Trying to import XML score from Logic, cannot put XML into timeline.  Help!

So, I composed a score for my shortfilm in logic, and have exported it in XML format. I can import it into FCP just fine, but when I try to put it in the timeline, I get an error message saying "Operation not allowed. You cannot nest sequences with different editing timebases."
I did a search before posting this, but couldn't find someone with a similar problem. How can I get this to work? Thanks in advance!

Obviously you edited your sequence in fcp in à different framerate than the sequence imported from logic.
In the browser you can see in the frame rate column that both differ. Right?
Does it work to open the logic sequence in fcp. In there select all. Command c to copy.
Go to your final sequence and do command V?
Otherwise is it possible to open the logic sequnce in fcp and change the framerate in sequnce settings.
Otherwise is it possible to set a framerate in your logic project to the same rate as your fcp sequence and then re- export the XML ? (sorry, don't know the app)

Technically, to make the function keys work you don't need to change the second box to dash. I don't know why I gave that advice, but it isn't necessary. I guess I said that simply because that's what I have it set to.
The reason there are two boxes is so that you can set Exposé to using both the function keys and the mouse. For example, if I have +All Windows+ set to F9 and Secondary Mouse Button, then it will show all open windows if I click F9 or right-click. That is why you actually don't need to have the second boxes for any of these set to dashes. You could set them to your mouse buttons, or if you wanted you could set the first box of any of these to any function key, as long as it isn't set to the same one as the key you want to use for your shortcuts within FCE.
I hope this made sense, I realize that I might not have explained it very clearly.

  • Sad icon = computer does not detect = cannot put into disc mode !

    hey,
my ipod photo at the moment won't turn on. the best i can do is plug it in to either my pc or the electricity supply, or reset it, so the apple logo comes up, however it only lasts for a few seconds and the sad face icon appears, directing you to www.apple.com/support.
i tried the first 4 r's and got onto the restoring one. but the updater will not detect the ipod. i think it is because my ipod is not in disc mode, but i cannot put it into disc mode - i can do the first step and resetting it, but then when i click the play/pause button and the select button nothing happens.
this problem has severly cheesed me off, and am very desperate to have a working ipod again!!!! please please help if you can!!!!
    thanks a lot, leon

    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“Partition Magic”.
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning ! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)

2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

Sorry, I was confused by your profile signature showing "GarageBand (Mac) '11".
It is very similar in the newest GarageBand 10.0.2:
Enable Audio Units in the GarageBand Preferences > Audio/Midi.
    Create a software instrument track.
Show the Smart Controls and click the button.
In the Info panel scroll, to make the Audio Units brick visible and click the "Instrument" control.  Select "AuInstrument > Apple > DLSMusicDevice" and click it, to open the settings.
This should show you a panel, where you can select a Sound Bank. Does that show your sound font?

    - when i go to the task manager the "apple device mobile" and "ipod service" is acitve in the processes
    - I've tried to restart my computer (windows XP)
    - update iTunes
    - reinstall iTunes
    - restart my apple devices mobile manager
what I think is the problem (which I can't solve) is that iTunes doen't even react to the USB

    Hello qz0rz213,
It would seem that iTunes has encountered or developed an issue in the process of trying to sync photos to your device. The best place to start would be removing the iPod Photo Cache (thus allowing for a new version to be created).
Note: Deleting this folder will not remove the original images from your library.
iTunes: Understanding the iPod Photo Cache folder
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
If the issue is not resolved by removing the iPod Photo Cache, the following article goes into further steps that can both help you determine the source of this trouble and eliminate it.
    Symptoms
In certain situations, iTunes may display an alert or may be unable to sync photos to an iPod or iOS device. Examples include:
After updating iOS, iTunes displays an alert that there is not enough room to sync photos
This error appears: "The iPhone/iPod touch '[device name]' cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found."
This article outlines steps to resolve these issues.

why can't i put my emails into folders

You must have an IMAP email accounts in order to create additional folders in the mail app on the iPad. There is now way to create folders locally like you can on a computer if you are using a POP email account.
If you go to your email account in the Mail app and look at the window where your inbox, trash folder and sent folder are - if there is an Edit button at the top of the window - tap that and then tap Add Mailbox at the bottom.
If the Edit button is not there - you cannot create folders on the iPad. Your email account is not IMAP. Only IMAP email accounts can create folders on the iPad. Any folders that you would already have in an IMAP account would sync to the device as well.

  • Beginner -- how to do dissolving slides into action load .flv

    Hi there,
Rather than try to teach myself the details of Flash from
scratch (like I really should), can someone show me this?
Here's what I need and I'm looking for something idiotically
simple; I don't know code and really don't want to spend lots of
time editing .xml files with individual file names, etc.; I'd like
something where I can use the Flash interface to import images,
swap bitmaps, etc. -- in other words, just use the program
    interface to achieve the following:
In a 360x240 area, play a slideshow of images that dissolve
one into the other (ideally, I'd have one 360x240 image
'underneath' and then several 360x220 or so images 'on top' so that
the bottom part of the image in the back shows through -- this
would be an image that says "click for preview" at bottom; I'm
assuming I save a few bits of memory that way and in any case, it's
easier to use existing images than to have to photoshop a bunch of
images with 'click for preview' at the bottom of each given how
    many I have to do)....anyway....
So you've got that slideshow of dissolving images that loops.
When it's clicked, a video loads and plays in that same area.
You guys will probably find it hard to believe -- or
pathetic, or both -- but I don't even know how to do that much:
make a few images dissolve into each other on the stage.
Anyway, when the video that was called up (.flv) is done
playing, it returns to the dissolving images again.
    That's about it.
As an example of how retarded I'm doing it now for
    comparison:
I've got a page with a .swf file that does the dissolving
images that is in a frame on the page.
When you click on that, the .swf loads another PAGE into the
    frame.
That page that's loaded has on it nothing but the video
preview in .swf format whick plays.
When the .swf video finishes playing, the .swf then loads the
dissolving images page back into the frame.
I did it like that because: I've been using swish which lets
me make a .swf and specify a URL to launch at the end automatically
so it's easy to do. I don't know how to do that in Flash myself,
nor do I -- obviously -- know how to put the dissolving images and
video launching into one Flash project. And finally, in Dreamweaver
I've found that for some reason when I try to put .flv videos onto
some pages, it won't let me because I have a template on that page
whose rules would be violated or something.
I'd really like to do it in Flash though with the .flv being
called up by the dissolving images .swf thingy since the .flv is
sooo much smaller than making the video in .swf
Here's an example of how it looks now by the way:
    http://www.bwnvideo.com/Catalog/Straight%20Up%20Wrestling%20Series/Straight%20Up%20Wrestli ng2/straightup2.htm
    Help me out! ;-) Thanks!

Hi Martin and welcome to our community
I suppose one way to do this would be to import the slide
stack from PowerPoint into one Captivate presentation, then create
output. Then create a new Captivate presentation that is sized
rather large. Insert the video on the left and the other Captivate
output on the right. This is how you would have both being seen at
the same time. Synchronizing will be a real challenge with this.
As for the menu similar to Articulate Presenter, that will be
a bit difficult to do as well. Especially with the approach I
suggested above. Captivate does have a built in menu generator
(Click Project > Skin... > Menu tab) but I'm doubtful it will
behave as you are expecting. Also, making changes after you have
created a menu will be frustrating.
Sorry I've not been a wealth of good news here, but that's
how I understand things to work.
    Cheers... Rick
