Cannot put G4 powermac to sleep when using Logic pro 6

Hi There,
Not sure if anyone can provide any help/suggestions, but I keep encountering the same, which is that when I using Emagic Logic 6 and want to put the computer  to sleep. It puts the screen to sleep but not the hard drive, as I can hear the fan going around as per usual, but after that I cannot get the screen to come back on and it appears that the system has crashed as nothing I do via the keyboard or mouse produces any response and I have to manually re-start computer by holding down the power button.
I am able to put the computer to sleep otherwise, but for some reason not in Logic at the moment!
Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for responding Eriksimon and I shall take heed.

  • Putting iMac display to sleep, when using TV as a screen.

    I have just connected my iMac to my 42" Panasonic 1080p TV, the connection was easy and is working fine. My questions relates to putting the iMac display to sleep when using the TV as a monitor, if I am watching You Tube, Sky Player or a DVD, I intend to use my TV as the monitor. Is it possible for the iMac to puts its display to sleep, whilst leaving the TV on. I played around with this today, however was unable to manage this.
    Regards Craig

    Hi Craig
    There is no way to independently sleep either the iMac's Display or an attached Display/TV. However if in the Display Arrangement Preferences you set the attached Display or TV to be the Main Display and turn Mirroring Off, then FrontRow and the Full Screen Mode app's like, DVD player, QuickTimePlayer, etc. will black out the unused iMac display.

  • Does 2012 mac mini get very hot when using logic pro

    does 2012 mac mini get very hot when using logic pro

    Are you saying that your machine does or is it an enquiry before buying ? I use a 2011 server model - well, it does get hot over a period of time, but I've very rarely heard the fan kick in, its a surprise when it does. As far as I know the casing has been specifically designed to conduct heat, rather than having any fancy grilles and so on, being so small in size. I haven't found it to be cause for concern, if that's any help.

  • Mountain Lion sleeps when using hot corner to sleep displays

    Mountain Lion's Power Nap "feature" already ***** at sleeping the computer even if tasks are running (downloading files via Firefox or Chrome, encoding a video in HandBrake, etc...), but it also seems to make the computer sleep when using a hot corner to make the displays turn off.  Previously in Snow Leopard, using a hot corner to sleep the displays wouldn't sleep the computer, since the hot corner was used for "Put Displays to Sleep", not "Put Computer to Sleep".  But in Mountain Lion, using the hot corner also puts the computer to sleep, immediately, not at the timed setting in the Energy Saver preference pane.
    Why is this?
    Shouldn't putting the displays to sleep only put the displays to sleep?  Why did Apple break this and not fix it in 10.8.1 or 10.8.2?

    SuperDuper does do that, but the flaw has been posted regarding remote disks going to sleep and some even ejecting. That is truly where the problem arises.  If I check don't put drives to sleep that is a lot of strain on the system.

  • Not green: No sleep when using integrated card reader and hub in Dell 2709

    Hello,
    here's a little weird sleep and wake-up problem with a Mac Mini.
    I hooked up a Mac Mini Mid 2010 model to a Dell 2709 monitor which has an integrated and self-powered card reader built in and this is connected by USB to the Mac. To the mac this appears correctly as a usb self-powered hub. I am using a so called master/slave power socket to put every periphal to sleep when the Mac enters sleep (stand by) mode. The Mac itself plugs into the Master socket and when turned on it also switches on the Slave sockets, and the monitor. Shutdwon and sleep turns the slaves off. This works good until the monitor USB hub is connected to the Mac. Then, when the Mac enters sleep state, it wakes itself up again within 1-2 seconds. The wake-up reason seems to be the USB hub from the monitor, because the hub looses power due to the master/slave power panel and disconnects from USB, which in turn wakes the Mac up again.
    Now, i got also a Bootcamp partition with Windows 7 installed on the same machine. To my surprise this works as expected. It enters sleep state (called StandBy Mode in Windows) without wakening up again immediately by itself. I assume the reason for this different behaviour is just the different approach from the two OS's. OS X wakes up even when disconnecting USB gear, but Windows does not.
    It took some hours to find out this. Apparently other users in this forum also have this problem in this particular scenario, like here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11031781&#11031781
    Unfortunately the topic is unanswered and archived.
    What would solve this problem is of course to change the power connection for the monitor in a way that the integrated USB stays powered. That would be pragmatic but not be "green".
    Another approach would be to change the behaviour of the Mac to not wake up when a USB device is disconnected - which makes no sense to me personally at all. I'm new to OS X and didn't found any command to achieve this.
    Would be nice to make real power saving working again.

    Hi David,
    thanks for your reply. You mentioned that the hub in the monitor is sending some sort of signal when powered down and this causes the wake up. Good idea. To inspect this i played around a bit with some other different USB gear on the same Mac.
    I discovered that any&every device that is disconnected by just unplugging it from the sleeping Mac Mini wakes the computer up again.
    This example from the kernel log shows a connected Canon ip4000 printer:
    Sep 16 00:26:52 MacMini2010 kernel[0]: AFPSleepWakeHandler: going to sleep
    Sep 16 00:26:56 MacMini2010 kernel[0]: Ethernet [AppleBCM5701Ethernet]: Link down on en0

    Sep 16 00:27:01 MacMini2010 kernel[0]: The USB device iP4000 (Port 4 of Hub at 0x4000000) may have caused a wake by being disconnected
    Sep 16 00:27:02 MacMini2010 kernel[0]: AFPSleepWakeHandler: waking up
    OK, this device is also self-powered. But what about a thumb drive?
    The same can be reproduced with USB thumb drives (all other USB devices were unplugged before, the Mini was sent to sleep via the power button):
    Sep 16 18:16:29 MacMini2010 kernel[0]: Ethernet [AppleBCM5701Ethernet]: Link down on en0
    Sep 16 18:16:29 MacMini2010 kernel[0]: System Sleep
    Sep 16 18:16:43 MacMini2010 kernel[0]: Wake reason = EHC1
    Sep 16 18:16:43 MacMini2010 kernel[0]: System Wake
    Sep 16 18:16:43 MacMini2010 kernel[0]: Previous Sleep Cause: 5
    Sep 16 18:16:43 MacMini2010 kernel[0]: USB (EHCI):Port 1 on bus 0x24 connected or disconnected: portSC(0x301002)
    Sep 16 18:16:43 MacMini2010 kernel[0]: The USB device Cruzer Crossfire (Port 1 of Hub at 0x24000000) may have caused a wake by being disconnected
    So, either:
    - OS X or the Firmware can not distinguish between connect and disconnect and wakes up the computer at both events. The log above shows the opposite in the last line.
    or:
    - This behaviour is by design. (But makes no sense for non-block-level devices. Unplugging = Wake-Up?)
    or:
    - Something with EFI ?
    Now i am poking in the dark.
    The Unibody-Mini is really a light-sleeper...

    Attachment downloads fine if I use IE though.

  • Is there any way to forse user to put at least 5 characters when using LOV?

    Hi gurus,
    I have a question.
    Is there any way to force user to put at least 5 characters when using LOV?
    I want user to put at least 4 characters before/when using LOV.
    Is there any way to do that?
    Thank you for your answers.
    Nerijus

    Hello,
    i've tested it both on 6i and 10g and also set the lov name at runtime.
    All i can say is, it does what it is supposed to do.
    So you should give it one more try:
    - leave the item properties NULL ( LOV name ) and NO ( Validate_From_List )
    - add following code in the WVI - Trigger
    IF :AUFTRAG_NEU.PN IS NOT NULL AND LENGTH ( :AUFTRAG_NEU.PN ) < 5 THEN
      Show_Message ( 'Bitte 5 Zeichen eingeben' );
      RAISE FORM_TRIGGER_FAILURE;
    ELSIF :AUFTRAG_NEU.PN IS NULL THEN
      NULL;
    ELSE
      SET_ITEM_PROPERTY ( 'AUFTRAG_NEU.PN', LOV_NAME, 'LOV_PN_PROJEKT' );
      SET_ITEM_PROPERTY ( 'AUFTRAG_NEU.PN', VALIDATE_FROM_LIST, PROPERTY_TRUE );
      IF SHOW_LOV THEN
        NULL;
      END IF;
      SET_ITEM_PROPERTY ( 'AUFTRAG_NEU.PN', VALIDATE_FROM_LIST, PROPERTY_FALSE );
      SET_ITEM_PROPERTY ( 'AUFTRAG_NEU.PN', LOV_NAME, '' );By the way, what exactly doesn't work?

  • 10.8.5 on MacPro5,1 - disabling "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" doesn't work any more

    I have always had "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" disabled in the Energy Saver section of System Preferences, but since upgrading to 10.8.5 this setting is no longer obeyed... I can distinctly hear the sound of my hard drives winding down and winding back up *very* often, and toggling the setting has no effect...
    There's other threads about hard disk sleep issues with 10.8.5 and it seems this is another one to add to the list... Definitely needs to be addressed because my hard drives are powering up & down quite a lot even when the system is sitting idle, which is gonna create a lot of unnecessary mechanical wear on those drives...

    Unfortunately, this is a known bug that Apple is working on.
    I submitted feedback regarding this issue and surprisingly received a couple of phone calls from Apple support about this issue.  I ran through several questions with the tech and advised him that I temporarily resolved the issue by restoring from a saved 10.8.4 installation.  So, for the moment, everything is working as it should.  The Apple tech asked if I would be willing to re-install 10.8.5 and provide some logs, but I declined since everything is back to normal now.
    As a side note, it has been said on other forums, the issue can be temporarily "fixed" by setting your monitor to never go to sleep and stay on, which ironically causes your hard disks to "never" sleep either.   I also provided this bit of info to the Apple tech in hopes of resolving this.

  • Setting up an external boot drive to only use when running Logic Pro.

    Since Logic Pro must be installed on the boot drive and it takes a lot of space I am considering an external boot drive. I would only use this drive when running Logic Pro and at other times it would not be connected. It is possible to set up a Firewire 800 drive in this manner and choose which drive to boot from whenever it is connected? I’m not interested in running Windows on this computer, but I would like the option to connect a second Firewire drive to occasionally backup the Logic boot drive.
    Am I better off doing a clean install of the OS on this external drive?

    If you hold down [option] at start up it will show all possible Boot volumes and allow you to select the one you want.
    Yes, I'd do a clean OSX install and then put Logic Pro on it.

    i am trying to use logic pro 9 on my lion system and it continues to say I have a bad midi...when i go to check my midi drivers folders in my library its empty...does anyone know whats going on?

    I
    got your message about making sure to use the machine specific disk that came with my machine. Unfortunately, Apple no longer sells Tiger replacement disks. I've got a couple of bids out on ebay, and will update when I have news to add to this post.
    Thank you for your help, Frank!
    To be clear you called the 800 number and explained what the situation was, old machine and lost the original DVD's?
    Just checking because if you just called and tried to buy the DVD's they might tell you they no longer sell them but you aren't really trying to buy them your trying to replace the ones that are missing.
    Ebay may work but there is a certain specificity to the DVD's required which, even if they seem right, might not work.
    Good luck either way. If you get a chance when you get the DVD's I'd be interested in hearing how it all works out.

  • Using Logic Pro with Reason 3.0

    I am trying to use logic Pro with reason 3.0. I want to be able to sync them together to use redrum within reason as my drum machine. I am using a MOTU 828 mk II audio interface with 8 in's and 8 out's.
    When I start logic first and the reason I am not hearing any sound from reason. I can see the meters move in the mixer of reason but I hear nothing.
    From the standard documentation that comes with Logic all I can figure out is that rewire is there to sync any other rewire program so that can run side by side of one sequences transport controls.
    I want to be able to hear audio from both my arrangement in Logic and in Reason at the same time in the same song in sync.
    Can someone please tell me firstly if this is possible and if so how can I implement this kind of setup.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Common problem. LP doesn't rewire 'out of the box'.
    There are two ways to do this (well, more, but I'll tell you 2)
    1 (Easy Way):
    Restart Mac (Just to be sure things are sorted, not everytime)
    Launch Logic
    Launch Reason
    Arrange Window
    Choose a Channel> Pan Left
    Go to the Middle section of the Parameters on the Left
    With the Channel pop up menu, select Rewire> RWMix L
    Repeat for the Right and away you go.
    2 (More Advanced)
    Environment Window
    In the Middle section of the parameters on the Left select Create
    Name it Rewire
    Under that windows "New" pull down (Top Left), pull down to Audio Object
    In the "Channel" pop up (Left, bottom section) select>Rewire (Left, right, 3,4... What ever you want.
    Double Click the Audio Object to expand it
    Pan Left or right, or whatever you need.
    Rename if you wish
    Do the same for the other stereo sideNow's the fun part. Assign these stereo pairs to a bus (above the fader, the default is "Out 1-2")
    Go to the Mixer window
    Double click the Bus you assigned, this puts it in the arrange window
    Arrange window
    Name the Bus "Rewire" or "ReDrum" or something great like that.
    Now you can use it like a stereo pair (which I wish Logic had) for automation and effects and such.

  • Can I use Logic Pro 9.1.6 on two computers with one licens

    I have download and install Logic Pro 9.1.6 on my MacBookPro 13". I record on location with my MacBook an wil edit and arrange the music on my iMac at home. Can I use Logic Pro 9.1.6 on two computers with one licens. I'm the owner of both computers. If it can where can I find the program on my MacBook? and how to install and register?

    Hi, is  the iMac also 10.6.8? I had an iMac die when 10.6.8 was installed, it worked at first but after some You Tube flash videos the screen just locked and no mouse clicking anywhere did anything. It turned out that most older iMacs [ mine was from august 2007] have a graghics chipset that can't handle Snow Leopard, there were [are?] 77 pages on this "locked screen"topic in the Snow Leopard forum. I checked out a web site that tells you how much your mac is worth by filling in the sereal number-mine was worth only $168, I may give it to a friend for his children to play with, although that seems unholy. I doubt anyone woud buy it,the problem is now so well known that even Apple certified resellars here in the Netherlands refuse to repair them,they claim Apple will revoke their certification if they replace the faulty Graphics unit,it is also VERY hard to get to that unit in an iMac, everything is so tightly packed inside.
    If your iMac is running Mountain Lion[10.8.0] you may have to change the app store preference to accept apps from all sites,normally ML will only allow app store apps to be downloaded.

  • Keep getting message pop up "Error reading/writing file  "com.apple.logic.pro.cs": Logical end-of-file reached during read operation," and "The Preferences are not loaded completely. Save them to "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" anyway?" Using Logic pro 8. ???

    Logic froze while I was working on something so I forced quit.  Now every time I open LOGIC a message pops up that says:
    "Error reading/writing file
    “com.apple.logic.pro.cs”:
    Logical end-of-file reached during read operation."
    The only button option is cancel so I press it and another message appears that says:
    "The Preferences are not loaded completely.
    Do not save them, as you would overwrite the Preferences file with incomplete data."
    Then when i close logic a box appears saying:
    "The Preferences are not loaded completely.
    Save them to "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" anyway?"
    There are 3 button options to press; ok, cancel or dont save.
    I press "don’t save" cuz I don't want to ruin anything.
    I found a discussion located here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/9564253#9564253 that says if I delete the file "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" it will resolve the problem.  If I do this will I loose or mess anything up at all, automation, saved channel strips customizations, saved effects, synth, or ultrabeat customizations etc? Or especially will I loose any work I've done?  I have hundreds pieces of music files I've created.  I'm scared to mess anything up with all the hours and months of work I've done.  Is there anyway to fix this without loosing anything?  I'm using Logic Pro 8.
    Thank you

    You can safely delete this file - its the preference file for control surface settings - you haven't said whether you're actually using a control surface or not, if so, you will have to set it up again. A new file will be created when you fire Logic up again, but of course it will contain default settings. If you have a complicated control surface setup, remember to keep a backup copy somewhere in case any future problems arise.
    Other than that, you really have nothing to be scared about - hopefully your problem is as simple as that and there isn't an underlying problem (a corrupt hard drive, for example). You seem concerned about losing work, so I guess you want to think about backing that up on a regular basis too. If you're saving your projects to your system drive, do get an external one for this. And also check that you have plent of free space on your system drive - you need to keep about a quarter or third of it free for your OS and programs to run properly (some temporarily stored files can be quite large).
