Cannot re-download purchased items

As the title says. I have been looking for ways to do this but have not been able to find it.
The problem is, I have purchases that got left on an older ipod that was eventually stolen. When I try to re-download (or even re-buy) the items that I am missing, I cannot as the bar says "Purchased".
And before you say "oh well you just have to go to your account in the itunes store and check purchases" no. They are not on there. I bought them on this account but they will not show up under "purchased".
They will also not show up if I click download because I had already downloaded them in the first place.
So yeah, I cannot re-download or re-purchase what I have purchased, it is not showing up under "purchased" in my account, etc.

Chris explained the "categories" part. When you pick on (say Music), and then click on Purchased under Quick Links, then Songs or Albums (choose one), then if you click on "All" you should see all Songs or Albums purchased under your Apple/iTunes ID. If you click on "Not in My Library", you should see all of the items you have purchased but not yet downloaded to the computer you are doing the search on. They all have a little cloud on them that you can click to download them (or you can click on Download All to download all of them):
You can also see all of your Music, Movies, TV Shows, and Books purchases (both ones that are on the computer and ones in iTunes in the Cloud) by going to one of those categories in your library, clicking on View on the top menu, and then clicking on "Show Music (or TV Shows, etc.) in the Cloud". Items not currently in residence in your library will have a little cloud in the upper right-hand corner. Also, your library list in the sidebar will show a little cloud next to the list item if you have purchases that are not currently in the library:

I have gone into purchased but next to each title it merely says 'downloaded'. I need to download them again. It will cost a fortune to re-purchase the corrupted music!

I tried that but it just shows 'downloaded'. There is no little cloud next to that wording. On an Itunes help page it shows a 'library icon' once you have logged in but that does not appear on my version of ITunes which is 11.1. I have lost so many peices of music! You can't change the Apple ID that the Authorize dialog comes up with by default. It's showing you that Apple ID for a reason: it means that the items you want to play were purchased using that Apple ID and therefore you need to authorize your computer with that Apple ID. Changing the Apple ID given completely defeats the entire purpose.
If you don't know the password to the given Apple ID, then you will no longer be able to play those items.

The simplest way to transfer everything is to copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.

Did you fail to back up your purchases?
If so, then they are gone.

If you are sure that you are authorizing the correct account/ID then:
iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases

You'll have to check your security software settings, iTunes has to be able to connect to Apple servers during the download process.

Never mind - I didn't realize that I just needed to wait a while for the Cloud stuff to cycle through and load. Solved!

If you can login using your Apple ID, then your account is in good standing.
Otherwise try here > Apple ID: "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons" appears

I am having problems with a couple of recent downloads. It happened once recently with the purchase of 4 individual songs. Somehow they eventually downloaded. Not sure how. Now, this past week, I downloaded 2 individual songs from the itunes music store, with no problem, then purchased an album and got through downloading two songs before I began to get the same "problem" window that I got before. The window would pop up and read, "There were problems downloading purchased items. Please check your connection and try again." That was about it. I have downloaded to my current set up for a long time. I have an external hard drive with about 106G of music on it. I have another couple of gigs left. I have the external set up as my itunes music folder in the advanced preference window, etc. I just can't figure out why this is happening and there is little support from Apple. FAQs are not helping. Anybody have any advice? Thanks, in advance. J

Hi,
Open download window - down arrow top right. What does this show? If it shows track name with "error" shown. Select all and delete.
Now try to see if you can redownload by going itunes store > purchased.

I just downloaded itunes 10.4 the option for downloading purchased items is cool but what about audio books any tips would great
i lost 5 of them ipod crashed.

I'm not sure that audio books can be re-downloaded without re-paying for them. Have you not got a backup of your content ?

I had my PC repaired recently and lost all of my downloaded music and TV shows that were purchased from the Itunes store. Anyone knw how I re-download the purchased items on my new PC?

Where is your backup copy? This is basic.

As Niel suggests, you can ask for an exception, but they are not obligated to allow.
You can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

Cannot re-download purchased magazines to my new iPad, error messages 4032, etc...

I religiously back upped my iPad 2 to iTunes prior to selling it and purchasing the new iPad (3). When activating iPad I restored my backup from iTunes. Of the many managzines I regularly purchase through Newstand and separately on the iPad, certain magazines were able to re-download purchased content, while others either were not able to even though they show as having been purchased, and some were not shown as having been purchased altogether.
Examples error messages for Newstand magazines showing up in my library that I attempt but are unable to re-download are:
Car and Driver Magazine: Issue Feb 2012
Automobile Magazine: Issue December 2011
House & Home Magazine: Issues Nov. 2011, Jan. 2012, Feb. 2012, March 2012, April 2012
All these magazines return this error message when attempting to redownload - "An error occurred. Uable to retreive issue information (4032)."

This magazine returns the error message: "Download in progress Another issue is being processed, please wait until all items are installed to download a new issue."

I contacted the magazine direct (SFI) and they gave me instruction on how to get my magazines back. I'll try to explain as well as I can.
1. Deleat the magazine app from your ipad.
2. Re-download the app to your ipad.
3. DO NOT go into subscriptions and try to download or "Transfer" your subscriptions!!!!!
4. Go into the buy section.
5. You will need to re-download every magazine again.
6. Don't be concerned about it showing a price, as when you click on it, it says you have already purchased this and do you want to down-load again? Click yes.
7. Your magazine should start to down-load again.
I know this is not the best way to get your mags back as it takes a lot of time and download megs, but it was the only way I found that worked.

There is nothing to accept. That simply is there if you wish to review the ToS.
Click a different button at the bottom of the iTunes screen.
The downloaded video will be in the Videos app.
If it was purchased on your computer, you will need to sync it from your computer.
