Cannot re-install Mac OS X Lion

Hi there,
While my McBook Air was was updating Mac OS X Lion; something went wrong with the network and the update failed a couple of times.
After I shut down the pc and tried to start it up again, it seemed like it was opening but it turns itself off.
The apple logo appears and the turning stick runs a little then it shuts down.
I tried to repair disk using disk utilities in the Lion Backup Option, it failed.
As I did some research, I need to do it using an external source; but I was not able to create an USB Stick starter without having the OS itself.
I try to open the command window in the beginning to start a disk check; but I cannot open the command window.
When I try to reinstall Mac OS X Lion, I can proceed uptill the point you select the hard drives; but all the drives are locked so I cannot select any of them.
I need some help and new thoughts, I am totally out of any.
Thanks a million times in advance.

I am in need of some kind of urgent help. Doesn't anyone have some ideas?

  • How can you install Mac OS X Lion on a new, empty hard drive?

If the only way to install Mac OS X Lion is by downloading it via the Mac App Store, it's going to be very difficult to put it on a brand-new hard drive unless Apple provides us with workarounds,So what should we do when want to install Mac OSX Lion on new HD?
    ThanQ

What you get from the Mac App Store will be an Installer Application. You will be able to transfer that Installer from Mac to Mac. I have not seen it yet, but we may also be able to burn an installer disk, we shall have to see just how things work.
Apple has always been known as an innovative company. And when they announce something new folks always go nuts with reasons that this cannot work. When Apple stopped making Macs with floppy drives and iMacs only had optical drives, people went crazy. Today no one makes computers with floppy drives.

  • Installing Mac OS X Lion on a new drive fails

I got a new SSD to replace my HDD with. I followed the directions on apple's website: I erased and formatted my usb drive, I downloaded and installed Lion Recovery Assistant on it, then I put the SSD in.
Then I boot up holding the option key and I connect to my wi-fi and select "Recovery HD". Then I make sure the SSD is formatted properly (GUID, etc) and create a new partition. I name it, exit disk utility and select Reinstall Lion.
I follow the directions, but it doesn't ask for my Apple ID, weird. It starts reinstalling telling me 1:35 hours left, which increases to about 7 hours left and then I get this error: "Cannot download the addition components needed to instal Mac OS X Lion"
I am mentioning that the usb drive I used for the recovery assistant was formatted correctly as well.
    Any ideas why this happens?
I also tried using Internet Recovery but after 4-5 minutes I get a weird error: I get a triangle on the world map and the text bellow says something like: "apple.com/support - 501 OF [11 ]"

Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups. If the lower left, there is a lock icon. Click on it and type in your password to make changes.

You can't install Lion over Leopard. To install Lion, a requirement is Snow Leopard. So you can either upgrade to Snow Leopard first or you can make a bootable Lion install disc and use that to wipe your hard drive and install a fresh copy of Lion.
So to make a disk would require you to purchase Snow Leopard and upgrade to 10.6.8 so you can use the App Store, unless you have access to another computer to download it from with your Apple ID. Remember it is about a 3.4GB download.
    Good Luck

  • Can't re-install Mac OS X Lion

I am not able to start my Macbook Air – I get the grey screen and revolving circle. So …
I am trying to re-install Mac OS X Lion via the Command-R utility on start up.
I am asked for my Apple ID and on entering it I get the message: “This Apple ID has not yet been used with App Store. Please review your account information”
I then press Review and nothing happens.
I have logged into my Apple ID on another comuter and have tried to update bits of information so that perhaps it can believe that it's active but to no avail.
(I would use my Time Machine to restore but I am currently abroad and don't have my Time Machine backup drive)
    Please advise.

  • Unable to install Mac OS X Lion after resetting

I've got a secondhand Macbook Air that I've been trying to wipe the memory out of. I was successful in resetting it, but I had forgotten to update the system before resetting it. After resetting it, I tried installing Mac OS X Lion through Recovery. I've actually successfully been able to do this twice on two other computers, but for this one, no matter how many times I tried, the message "This item is currently unavailable" shows up right after signing into the app store.
I do not have a SuperDrive, and I don't have the CDs either.
    Thanks

That was quite dumb question, the RTFM issue
Booted from macintosh HD at startup & removed the windows installation.

  • Where is the "Install Mac OS X Lion.app" file?

I recently downloaded and installed Lion on an iMac that was running Snow Leonard. Everything went well with the exception that the file "Install Mac OS X Lion.app" that's supposed to be in the Applications folder, isn't there. Where is is and how do I get it?

Go back into the App Store, login with your Apple ID then press/hold the Options/Alt key and click on the Purchases tab at the top. You should see Lion available to install. Click INSTALL and Lion will redownload. Just remember NOT to continue with the installation after it downloads.
Very strange! This is what I get when I follow your instructions:

  • Can I install Mac OS X Lion on an external FireWire800 drive?

Can I install Mac OS X Lion on an external FireWire drive? I have bought a Lion Thumb Drive. I'd like to install Lion on the FW drive and then boot from there. The FW drive is a brand-new LaCie D2 Quadra 2 TB drive that has FW 800, 400, USB, and esATA connectivity.  Can't find any manual describing how to do this. Any help appreciated. The more detail, the better. Thanks.

Yes, you can. When you run the installer you will get to a screen where you will see the default target drive, usually "Macintosh HD." Under the icon you will see a link to display other drives. Click on that so you will see the external drive you have connected. Select that then continue the installation.
For simplicity connect the drive using FW800.

  • I need to re-install mac os x lion

    Hello,
I installed windows 7 on my imac but when I made it, I remove all other parts including mac os x boot section. I can not find all drivers for windows 7, because of that I want to re-install mac os x lion but I don't have any installation DVD, also I don't have any installation file on my HDD. How can I install mac os x lion again?
    Thank you.

I'm hoping you didn't totally wipe your system, try booting and when you hear the Startup Tone hold down the Option key and choose the Recovery Partition and then install Lion. If you totally erased the drive and the only thing left you will have to try using Lion Recovery & Lion Recovery, OS X Lion: About. If those don't work then your next stop is an Apple Store or AASP for service.

  • Will ILife 2011 be there when I clean install Mac os x Lion?

Before I clean install Mac os X lion. Will ilife be there when I'm finshed installing? and with all the intel graphic drivers, do i have to install the driver updates?

No. To do a clean install you have to wipe the HD or bootable volume. BTW, before installing Lion, you should make a bootable backup/clone of your current SL installation so you can go back if the installationi doesn't turn out. IMO, there's no need to do the so-called clean install.

  • Can't download the additional components needed to install mac os x lion

I recently upgraded the RAM in my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011) to 16gigs.  The process went smooth at first.  Then the Computer would not boot and stayed on the white Apple screen with the circle spinning. A progress bar would appear and disapear but it would never get past that screen.  I tried to fix that but ended up backing up my hard drive and now I am attempting to restore the unit using "command + R" at startup.  I have eraseed and reformated the drive using with Disk Utilities OSX extend journaled. Then I attempt to reinstall and the unit is connected to my wifi which is fast and stable and I get, "can't download the additional components needed to install mac os x lion."    I have tried this many times

I still have the 16gigs of ram in the macbook pro which I am told this unit supports both by OWC (which is where i bought it) both identical 2x8gig sticks ddr3 1333
