Cannot receive hd on bt vision box

Hi. I had bt infinity installed on Monday 27th. I have the new black bt vision box with a card for bt sport and sky sport. The same day I took out a subscription for hd extra. At this point in time I cannot receive any hd channels or normal sport channels I can get all the others. India have checked out my system and internet speed. They say my hd is activated and I should be receiving them. Under their supervision I've done hh5 resets box resets etc to no avail. I'm connected by Ethernet. In the end they have more or less given up and sending out an engineer. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution.

I don't know the exact significance of "initialised" but it must be OK as that's what mine says and it's been working fine for months. You might need to wait for the engineer but the forum moderators may be able to offer some help when they read this thread.

  • New BT Vision+ box always has red power light

My father has just re-subscribed to BT Vision and received a new Black Vision box. Setup went through OK. Update received and installed fine at first boot. However, the Power light has never changed from being red, not the record light, but the power light.
The Box is working fine, you can watch, record pause, rewind, on demand everything. But the power light refuses to change colour, as I understand it should show either Blue, Purple or Red. Well we've never seen either of the first two. Any ideas? We tried turning it off completely overnight - no change.

  • New BT Vision Box to receive Freview HD?

I had been a BT Vision customer for around three years. I then moved to Sky for two years, but am now thinking of coming back to BT Vision, especially with the prospect of BT Infinity.
I've looked around the forums and website to see what's changed/improved with the service and I must say I'm impressed. However, as has been documented many times on this and other forums, the Black Vision+ box is unable to receive freeview HD. I'm aware that BT are linked with Youview and a new freeview HD receiving box is in the pipeline alongside that with an ETA of sometime early next year.
Interestingly, I just had a online chat with a BT customer service person called Roxy and inquired into this. My question to her was whether it was worth me signing up now to BT Vision or waiting a few weeks for the new freeview HD receiving box to be available. The answer I got was "You may as well wait", and she implied that the new box shall be available in a few weeks.
    Thought you might be interested.
I shall be waiting a few weeks.

Upon opening LR I receive a "Server Busy" dialoge box: "This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Choose 'Switch To' to activate the busy program and correct the problem." I have no other programs open and when I wait a bit it clears with the 'retry' button. Happened following a recent update. I'd really like this to go away - any ideas?

For me this happens when I have Zenfolio or Facebook open in Google Chrome, even if Google Chrome is not active.  If you use Chrome, when the error shows up open Chrome and close each one of the tabs and click on the retry in Lightroom.  Also happens if Internet explorer is running with either of these two programs.

  • BT Vision Box Not Receiving ITV or CH4?

Hello. I've joined this forum for the purposes of attempting to resolve a problem that my parents are having with their BT Vision Box.
They are very happy with the system in general, but recently my mother has been unable to watch/record ITV very often. She has tried re-scanning for channels, but this simply lost several channels from the tv guide altogether.
Now I realise that atmospherics sometimes play havoc with freeview, but the reason I am perplexed is that my Panasonic tv upstairs (with inbuilt digital reciever) has almost no trouble recieving these channels, bar the odd blip or two.
Yesterday was case in point when I could watch Doc Martin in perfect quality, and downstairs could see literally nothing. Progarm unavailiable. Channel 4 was the same, though it was at least a static broken image on the BT Vision Box, and not just a black screen.
We had a digital ariel installed about 6 years ago (at some cost) which both our televisions run off (theirs through the Vision Box, as their tv does not have built-in digital tuner). The cableing is up to date aswell, and we have some kind of booster attachment aswell (though the guy who installed the ariel insisted it wasn't a booster, but we need it plugged in to get a signal).
So in conclusion, why can't the BT Vision Box recieve channels from the same ariel as my television, that has no problem getting them?

I think someone conned you somewhere along the line.
It sounds very much like a booster to me.
Also the wind ought to have no effect on your aeriel. (note not ariel that's for your washing machine )
It really does sound like an aerial issue to be honest and maybe it would be worth getting someone to look at it.
If you take the downlead out of this box can you plug the aerial in to the TV?
Hang on - is your TV fed from this box?

  • New bt vision box received broadband flashing oran...

I got my new bt vision box today and I moved my bt hub in beside the bt vision hub but since then it has had a flashing orange light and no steady blue can anyone let me know what the problem is or how I can resolve this?

Is the Home Hub still connected to the telephone line?  If not, it's never going to work.
If you have Infinity and a new Hub 5, then the Hub must be connected to the master socket.  If it's a Hub 3 or 4, it must be connected to the white Openreach modem.
If you're on ADSL, then it must be connected to a phone socket through a microfilter.  If you have a filtered master socket, ithen the Hub must connect to the master socket.

  • Tv losing channels when vision box turned on

When vision box is turned on I lose channels - film4 and radio channels and screen pixelates on others. Not actually watching channels through box, just on tv. Screen says no signal. As soon as box turned off signal returns. When scanning for channels vision box cannot find these channels. Any help gratefully received.

This is nearly always HDMI interference. I get this on 666MHz which for me is Pick TV and a few others.
Basically the HDMI interface generates Radio Freqency interference - it is a by-product of the high bandwidth required to send the full HD signal from the box to whatever. This RFI then leaks out of the cable (even the expensive 'shielded' ones) and will often cause 'damage' to the signal being received down your el-cheapo TV aerial cable into the TV tuner. It will peak at certain frequencies and this is why not every channel is affected.
I have found the only way to (partially) cure the issue with my setup is to install clip-on ferrite cores (the bug ones) onto every HDMI cable and wind the cable at least once through the centre of the ferrite. I say only partially cure as if the signal level of the MUX on 666MHz drops OR there is other noise, then the HDMI interference will knock out that MUX.
Another fix is to ensure that your HDMI cables are kept as far away from your TV aerial connection(s) and any amplifiers as is possible, even if it means using a longer cable with a less direct route from box to TV. Don't bunch or wrap all the cables together, and don't be fooled into paying a kings ransom for HDMI cables. Many have found the cheaper cables generate less RFI for some reason.

  • BT Vision box freezing but tv picture still in the...

    Hi,
I am hoping someone can help.
I have the black bt vision box and it appears to have stopped working.
When I reboot it I have about ten seconds where I can control it using the remote. After that whatever menu is on the screen after that point stays jammed on the screen yet the tv picture in the background continues to stream live. I can't do anything at all except continue to watch what channel is on the screen when it stops responding.
Any help is much appreciated. I've had a search and can't find anyone with the same problem.
    Solved!

As a test what happens if you reboot with the aerial and Ethernet disconnected? Does it remain responsive after a few minutes?
If so start a "Scan for channels" in TV Settings and immediately reconnect the aerial.
It is just a hunch but I'm thinking the TV Guide EPG database may have been corrupted causing it to crash as soon as it receives a new EPG update. A tuner scan well flush the EPG database and may fix it.

  • BT Vision box signal strength indicator

Just received the latest black BT Vision box replacing an older version. Old version worked really well, good picture. New one using same leads and aerial point pixellates at times horribly. The signal quality indicator usually indicates 100% and is green in colour. The signal strength indicator varies: sometimes is shows over 70dBuV and is red, other times it is around 64dBuV and is orange and occasionally it is around 56dBuV an is green. What should it be? It pixellates even when the indicator is green. I had a big new roof aerial fitted a few years ago  and there is a booster/distributor box in the roof - currently running just two tv's off it, although rarely at the same time.
Why does the new box not work when the old one did? What do I need to do to cure this? Is the signal too strong or too weak?! Any ideas out there?
    Thanks, Graham

Thanks for the feedback. I have tried splitting the aerial with a passive splitter - perhaps marginally better but difficult to say. Even tried splitting again to the point where the signal was showing weak. The strength indicator seems to have a colour coding, starting off red with a weak signal, going orange, then green, then as the signal is stronger it goes orange again and back to red when too strong. I have hit the green optimum region and gone either side of it. Pixellation is always there. Reading all the posts on here about this, I am coming to the conclusion that I am not going to be able to fix this.
I may ask BT to reinstate the old box, it worked perfectly - I only asked for a replacement so that I can have BT Sports and the option of Sky sports. I will just have to stream BT sport to my laptop if I want it. I am a little disappointed about this though.

  • NEW VISION BOX UPDATE IS USELESS

i have recently had the new update
it worked for a while until tonight 15/11
now it is worse than ever
the lights flash on the remote but no response from the Vision Box
all i get now is a green screen and nothing else
i have rebooted a few times unlugged a few times but nothing it tries to reinstall upgrade
then goes straight back to green screen
this new mBOX must have cost BT millions to get ready and produce
i take it it has never been tested before being thrown at everyone
this is  a great advert of the best BT can offer

Today I received a message on my BT Vision box advising that in 30 days time my box will be updated to the new look software. I am currently on the old style software which has been working perfectly and have Sky Sports and ESPN.
After reading this forum and also seeing the sticky post admitting that BT know the software has issues I am concerned.
Why do BT continue to update current customers boxes when they know that the software has bugs (see below thread from BT) and testing for the fixed software has not been completed?.
    community.bt.com/t5/BT-Vision/Recording-problems-on-New-Look-BT-Vision/td-p/652204
Surely they dont want even more current customers to have the known issues than is necessary?
This seems completely stupid to me and surely once the crashing problems etc were found BT should have stopped the roll out of the new look until the issues were fixed in a new version of the software?. This clearly is not the case.
Please can a moderator respond. I will only be happy to receive the new software if the problems have been resolved.

  • New BT Vision Box stops my other digital freeview ...

I'm a new BT vision customer and have set my vision box up to include using the poweline adapters as my tv is otherside of the room to my homehub and all works fine.
However the TV we have in the bedroom that has freeview built in will no longer receive any signal. This TV connects direct into a aerial socket on the wall and there have been no issues. For info this TV backs onto the wall where the homehub and one of the power line adapters are.
Any ideas how to get around the issue of all my BT vision kit from preventing the other TV receiving a signal.
TV has been checked and all is ok. Had a scan through google and can see that there maybe issues with BT vision affecting Wii's and so on but not other TV's with freeview built in.
    Any help would be welcome.
    Thanks!

Any electrical device generates noise which can be picked up on a cable. Powerlines by their very nature can generate more electrical disturbance than most. You can help minimise the effect by keeping cabling as far away as possible from powerlines and transformers. Screened aerial cable may also help with induced noise.
I suppose the cheap and nasty test to see of the Powerline is the cause of the issue would be to temporarily unplug the one close to your upstairs TV and see if the Freeview reception returns. Unfortunately with aerial cables which are buried in the wall you have no way of knowing how close they run to the ringmain, so it's possible that the extra signal the Powerline is putting on the mains cabling could be the issue. That would be a git to resolve.

What model of BT Vision box is needed in order to actually successfully receive BT Sport with a viewing card?
I know its got to be black not an old white one but is their a particular model or anything?

    Hi sfield3,
Thanks for posting. Which box do you currently have? If it's the older one you'll need to change it to the Vision+ or YouView box.

  • Silver/Black BT vision box

We've had our silver vision box for over 2 years now.  I was just wondering, what's the difference?  I noticed the buttons of the box infront is different to the black one though the remote is still the same just in different colour (I think).  Difference with the performance?  Quality?
    Thanks!

And he said.....that the old silver box couldn't get HD but, come April, when our transmitter goes digital then I will be able to get HD Freeview on my new black box. Ok, so this goes against my understanding from other threads. But he is an engineer, and he did come in a BT van. So I kind of would expect him to know.....
Please don't shoot the messenger though. I'm only repeating what he said.......

If the hardware decoder & firmware is not present in the Black box then it cannot decode HD Freeview.

  • New replacement (black) BT Vision box

New black vision box arrived today, installed, but trouble. Most channels are not available and others have distorted sound and picture. ITV1 is OK cannot get BB1 and many others. The Vision box is connected direct to the TV, no other device inbetween. Switched off scanned again. Same result. BT India say I have a signal problem which is not their problem. I had no such problem with the silver box. BT India say I cannot reuse it as it has been deactivated. I am sorry I laid eyes on the black box which I did not want anyway.  Any advice please?

  • New Look Black BT Vision Box - Failure to record a...

I had my original Silver BT Vision box replaced due to catastrophic failure. I was given the new black BT Vision box as a replacement. Not only does it fail to record programmes as outlined in the posting by StuartH, but it has a habit of re-booting itself.
When setting up recordings on my original box; of there was a recording conflict, I was able to immediatly resolve the problems by being able to see immediatly which programmes I could choose to record. This is not the case with the new box. When trying to set up recordings for the following week on the new box and a conflict occurs where there are more than two programmes selected I get a red banner across the bottom of the screen telling me that "you can only record two programmes at the same time (VRC001)", without being able to easily find out via the box search system which programmes are in conflict.
I cannot find any reference to this error code anywhere or fault message anywhere on the internet.
Has anyone else had this problem?
