Cannot receive iMessages on iPhone

I have an iPhone with iOS 8.1.2 and a MacBook Pro (OSX Yosemite). My problem is the following: I cannot receive iMessages on my iPhone. However, if I send iMessages from my iPhone or Mac, they are received normally and I do receive iMessages on my Mac. The behaviour for text messages (SMS) is normal. Moreover, when somebody (including myself) sends me iMessages, I can see the three dots that appear when somebody is typing long after they stop typing and for a longer period of time.
In order to fix my issues I tried the following:
deactivate and reactivate iMessages
deactivate text forwarding to my MacBook
restarted iPhone
reset network settings on my iPhone
reset all settings on my iPhone
delete conversations and users
removed and re-added Send & Receive addresses
Erase all content and settings
Out of these options only the last worked but only as long as I didn't restore the backup. As soon as I restored the last backup, the problem came back. I cannot figure out whether this is an issue with my iMessage setting on the iPhone, iCloud settings or something else.
Does anyone know how I can fix this problem and have my content & settings back?

My problem was suddenly fixed with no action on my behalf.

Do you mean you are not getting SMS text messages now ?
If so start here
Follow the Account management options until you are offered and email contact.
Explain the issue via email as only someone in Support can now remove your iPhone Number from iMessages if it has not "de-registered" itself correctly.

If you have access you your old iPhone, just sign out of Messages. If you do not have access to it, then change your Apple ID password.

Unlink a phone number
To remove a phone number from an Apple ID, sign out of FaceTime and Messages on your iPhone:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with FaceTime and Messages. If the phone number is still available on other devices after you sign out of FaceTime and iMessage on the iPhone, you may need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your devices, then sign in to FaceTime and Messages again on devices you want to use.
Note: If you no longer have access to the iPhone that is using the number you want to remove, reset your Apple ID password.

Lets take first issue first: Apple does not charge a customer to 'keep' iPad access. That does not happen at apple. If you were billed and charged that amount of money from someone you were speaking to over the phone, you were not talking with Apple support. If you need to speak with apple support you are free to call them at 800MYAPPLE and they will talk to you for no more money than 19.00/ support event.

Cannot receive SMS on iPhone 4???

I cannot receive SMS on my iPhone 4. It can send but not receive. It may receive only if no Apps Store application installed, or while everything not interacting with the Internet. Send is ok, everything just like it can handle only one single application and no other background process. This started happen after iOS5 release, NOT after installed. After installed iOS5 with a full reset and installation from Apple Service Center, it desn't help, still cannot receive 99% SMS. And they deny to install 4.3.5 or older for me...poor service!!!!!
The netwoek using is PCCW 3G/2G in Hong Kong. Not receiving messages problem is normal on all other Internet application, such as Whatsapp, Yahoo! everything...but now even the SMS...?! iMessage switch on or off, same, cannot receive SMS.......... What do you mean Apple??? You are really kidding... I don't want to buy 4S, anyway, we can't get it ordered nor too much problem on it at this stage.

I cannot receive messages sent to my iPhone on my iPad. I have both of them signed into my Apple ID and can easily receive iMessages on the iPhone. With messaging on the iPad I can neither send or receive messages. It should be noted that my iPad is from the US and I'm using it on wifi in Denmark....if this affects anything. Any advice on how to make this work?

Did you turn off messages on your iPhone AND your iPad and then start all over again, turning on messages on the iPhone first? That's usually how the phone number becomes accessible in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at ....

Cannot receive txts on iPhone 4S (from paypal)

I have my PayPal account configured with the SMS text security code feature for logons. I just switched from AT&T to Verizon and I can no longer receive the SMS codes on my new iPhone 4S. I can send/receive SMS messages to others. I tried de-activating the feature within PayPal and tried re-enabling it....but I still cannot receive the SMS message required to initiate the service.
What is up?

This is not a known issue with the iPhone 4S. It is possible that you have a Premium Text Message block on your account which may prevent the PayPal messages from coming through. cannot receive sms. I have done many network setting restores, i have ordered a new sim card from carrier. no change, this problem comes and goes so sometimes i get the message straight away, other times i receive it either when i make a phone call or restart the phone or turn airplane mode on and off.
I have had this problem on all IOS from 6.0 to 6.1.3.

I have no answer but some knowledge to give. I had the same problem and I had to restore my to the factory settings . It worked and no more problems happened . I guess it has something to do with the update. Hope it work.

I currently switched from an iPhone to an Android phone and now all my friends who use an iPhone cannot send messages to me. I talked to a representative for Apple and they said that my friends had to delete my contact and then re make it so they could send messages to me. ıs there a quicker fix to it, I already turned off iMessage on my iPhone but it still doesn't work and does anyone know if they plan on fixing it.

Your friends have to delete any old conversations they had started with you when you had an iPhone, and the new conversations should go out normally as text message.
This assumes that you actually did disable iMessage prior to switching to Android. You can confirm by asking anyone you know with an iPhone that doesn't have you as a contact to try sending you a text.
