Cannot receive mail using leopard

Recently my parents mac mini which is runing Leopard stopped receiving mail addressed to there @mac.com account. I have tried deleting the account then adding it back again to no avail.  I can log into their iCloud account no ptoblem using same credentials.  I do get a reoccuring pop up telling me that the address is not correct, but I can use the password for icloud, an i did check that the password I use for their icloud account i sthe same I use to try to set up their mail account.

Hi Scott, yes, everything has changed.
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT - DO NOT TRY TO ALTER YOUR EXISTING ACCOUNT.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
• Server name: imap.mail.me.com
• SSL Required: Yes
• Port: 993
• Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
• Password: Your iCloud password
SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
• Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
• SSL Required: Yes
• Port: 587
• SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
• Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
• Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

No, sorry. I eventually purchased Lion and this problem hasn't resurfaced for me. Previous to that, I used the web interface to manage my iCloud email. Clumsy and inconvenient, but was a lot more reliable than the hit-or-miss functionality of iCloud mail on Snow Leopard's Mail.app.

  • When connecting to the public wifi cannot receive mails, either use internet

when connecting to the public wifi cannot receive mails, either use internet

I believe I may have solved this
When you can't log into public WiFi ...
    with an iDevice…
because the Server times out ...
or the login/registration page just won't load ...
      ********Simply do this***********
Go into settings> WiFi and tap the little info icon for the network you are trying to join
If you see two slider buttons, these are the cause of your woes
One says "Auto Join" (or similar) - you can leave this ON
The second button is "Auto Login" - you must turn this OFF (slide it left so it is grey not green)
Now go back and reselect the network.
If the login page doesn't come up automatically, open a Safari window and enter any address
    Bingo!
I have reproduced this issue and solution in 100% of the public WiFi spots which I could previously not access. Please not that I also have "Block Pop-Ups" turned OFF in Settings> Safari, though I do not know if this is a necessary step.
I have filed a bug report with Apple. Feel free to contact them yourselves if this workaround works for you.
    Peace y'all

  • Cannot Send Mail using AIM account.

I can receive mail fine but when I try to send mail I get the following message:
Cannot send mail using the server smtp.aim.com:EmilyLozano.
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings.
Message from: Emily Lozano <[email protected]>
I left for a trip a few days ago, came back and now for no apparent reason cannot send mail as I always have. I have reconfigured the port to 587 and that did not help. Any suggestions? (I can send and receive fine via the web, but I really hate it.)

I'm glad you got it figured out. So many times people on this forum sit around waiting for help when they could have retraced their steps, like you did, to figure out the source of the problem.

I have 3 mail accounts in apple mail. One of them has had the spinning ball going for several days and I cannot receive mail in this account or delete messages etc. For some  reason, I CAN send mail on Apple mail using this account, although it takes several minutes. I can receive mail in this account on my iPad and by signing into aol on safari and internet explorer on my office PC. It's obviously a glitch in Apple's Mail. I've deleted this account and reopened it in Mail on my Mac Pro with no difference. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, this E amil account is major to my business.

sounds like a corrupt database or index
the glitch is your home folder and mail folder, esp look at syncservices
I'd post in the mail or Lion forum where you will find similar issues being discussed.

  • Cannot receive mail; keychain password problem

I recently bought a MacBook Air. While at the Apple Store making this purchase the Genius who sold it to me had to have me change my login password. He also advised that I upgrade the OS on my iMac desktop at home. Which I did. I do not use Keychain and told him that I did not want to.
Now I have a Mail problem. I can send and receive email fine within my own (administrator's) account. But my husband cannot receive mail in his Mail account. It is not an ISP problem because he can see his new mail on their webmail site.
When he opens his Mail app, it tells him that "Mail wants to use the 'login' keychain. He puts in his login password and every other password he can think of, but it will not recognize any of them. Then it says that "Mail can't connect to the accout "(ISPname)." He enters his ISP email password, and then it asks for the keychain password again.
The Connection Doctor says that "Trying to log into this SMTP account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct." The username and password are correct; we never changed them. Now I'm stuck.
I really think this is connected to the OS upgrade. Can anyone help?

Everybody uses KeyChain. You can't 'opt out' of it, it's simply the way Mac OS X keeps track of who and what is allowed to do this or that, including Mail. The 'Genius' should have explained that to you....
Not to worry. Here's the trick.
    1. Click on the Spotlight (magnifying glass) in the top right corner of your screen.
    2. Type 'Keychain' in the search bar and press 'return'.
    3. In the 'Keychain' window that opens up, search for 'mail' in the filter bar.
    4. Click on and delete all entries that start with 'imap...' and 'smtp...'.
    5. Open Mail.app and choose Mail > Preferences... | Accounts | Account Information
    6. For each of your mail accounts in the left panel, clear the field under 'Password' and re-enter the correct password. After doing this for one account, click any of the tabs above (e.g., 'General') which will force a dialogue box asking you to save the changes. Confirm that you want to save the changes.
Repeat step 5 and 6 for all your different email accounts.

  • Cannot receive mail can send email receiving mail on another mini pad

I Cannot receive mail on my iPad. Password correct in setting. Receiving mail on another iPad with same password yahoo account have had no trouble till yesterday.

A lot of people have been unable to access Yahoo e-mail on their iPhones or iPads. My wife’s iPad was not downloading Yahoo mail, although her iPhone was. Both used IOS 8.2. We tried deleting the account several times and troubleshooting all of the other settings. The problem appears to have been that allowing the IOS to automatically create the account on the iPad resulted in the wrong settings for the incoming server. The following procedure, pieced together from two websites, fixed the problem for us. So far, so good.
    https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2659/configure-imap-for-iphone-or-ipad.aspx
    https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mobile-mail/imap-server-settings-sln4075.html
    On the iPhone, tap Settings.
    Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap your Yahoo account, then delete it.
    Tap Add Account.
    Tap Other.
    Tap Add Mail Account.
Complete the Name, Address (email address), Password and Description fields.
    Click Next.
    Ensure IMAP is selected.
Enter the following incoming mail server information:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL
    Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Port: 993
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Hostname is mail.yahoo.com.
Username is your full email address
Password is the same password used to access webmail.
Enter the following outgoing mail server information:
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires SSL
    Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    Port: 465 or 587
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Requires authentication: Yes
Username is your full email address
Password is the same password used to access webmail. It may have been entered for you.
    Tap Next.
The iPhone will establish an SSL connection to your IMAP and SMTP servers.
    That’s all!

  • TS3276 I have my email set up, I can send, but I cannot receive mail.  What could be wrong ?

I have my email set up, I can send, but I cannot receive mail.  What could be wrong ?

SMTP is the protocol used to send mail, where IMAP and POP are the protocols used to receive mail.  ISPs can have different servers for these protocols.
In this case, the specified receiving (IMAP or POP) server, or the receiving user and password credentials, are likely incorrect.
What does the Connection Doctor diagnostic tool report?
Mail.app's Window menu > Connection Doctor
To check or change the settings, select Mail.app's Mail menu > Preferences... > Accounts and select the account you need to edit in the left column.
The receiving information will be displayed for the selected Account, with either POP or IMAP shown.  Confirm with the ISP that your POP or IMAP mail settings are correct per the ISP's recommendations, as well.   And in general, IMAP is preferable to POP, if you have the option of using either of those with your ISP.

  • Can send mail but cannot receive mail?

My machine has been operating fine and all of a sudden I cannot receive mail...?
I've called my internet provider and they cannot figure it out.  My other Mac's are operating fine.  Any suggestions?

    Hi Popeye. You're welcome.
Has Mail ever worked on this computer for this
account? It could be that you haven't configured the
account properly, i.e. haven't chosen the right
authentication method in Preferences > Accounts >
    Advanced, or something like that.
    Hi David,
Yes, my MacMail used to work. At that time, I was on a local ISP, on a dial-up connection. Now I have HughesNet satellite connectivity. Maybe you can verify that my settings are right.
In the Accounts window, all three first boxes are checked (enable this account, include when checking for new mail, remove copy when retrieving from server [after one week]), the next section (prompt me...) is grayed out. I'm taking from port 110, and I have MD5 challenge/response selected.
    Does this sound right?
    Thanks,
    PTP

  • Cannot receive mail on laptop

    Hi all,
I have mac mail set up on my laptop and have it configured exactly the same as the mac mail on my Mac Pro. I cannot receive mail on the Macbook Pro when I am away from the office and on a different network than at the office. I always get a 'certificate is not valid' warning.....then check 'always trust' but I can still not retrieve email from my server. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best,
    Dennis

Many sites, whose mail/web sites utilize SSL, create SSL certificates and register them through a third-party broker like Verisign or Thawte, for example, in order that site visitors or authorized users have an independent and trusted verification of authenticity that they are not connected to a rogue site masquerading as the authentic site. These certificates have an expiration date because otherwise, how will these brokers make money? Their customers renew their certificates and pay the broker a renewal fee. If an online site that uses SSL doesn't register their certificate, or if it has expired, individuals connecting to their site will get warning messages like that.

  • Cannot receive mail - virgin media

    Hi All,
I have an email account with Virgin Mail and currently cannot receive mail. There are no reported errors on the Virgin Media website.
The error message I receive is as follows :
"The mail server denied access to the account because an administrator or other mail client was using it when Mail tried to log in. Please try again later. The server error encountered was: Internal login failure. Refer to server log for more information"
If the problem persists could someone please offer advice on how to solve the problem. Virgin Media are not usually responsive to this type of question hence my post here.
I have noticed increasing numbers of problems recently to receive mail. Never the same problem twice and never the fault of Virgin Media.
    Thanks

    Hi again,
Further to above problem. After shutting down the computer for an hour or so I now have a different problem. I still cannot receive mail but now I am asked to enter my password when I hit the 'Get Mail' button but then the password is rejected. Previously I was not asked for any password.
I have not changed the password or the authentication setting in preferences (set as 'password').
I also am not able to access my mail using www.mail2web.com. It is also saying username or password error.
Earlier this evening everything was working fine, I have changed nothing. I am able to send mail. I am at a loss as to what to do next.
    Thanks
