  • Genius bar of little help...iphone: "cannot receive or make calls..."

went to the genius bar today because my iphone is apparently dead, and at&t won't touch it in terms of service.
get there and the guy says i have to make an appointment for tomorrow. and asks me for a number where i can be reached. again explain that the number at which i can be reached "cannot receive or make calls..."
anyone know how i can get this fixed now? and not have to pay for cell service that i can't even use?

Apple handles all iPhone repairs or exchanges under warranty. You can call AppleCare at (800) 694-7466 to handle everything over the phone, or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.
If you can't make a call with your iPhone, it isn't a good idea to call technical support from the iPhone you are having a problem with anyway, and the same with a technical support problem with any cell phone since troubleshooting steps may involve doing something with the device that prevents being able to remain on the phone.
I don't have a landline at home so when I've needed to call technical support for any cell phone I've used in the past, I make the call from work, or from the landline of a family member, friend, neighbor, or pay phone.
Are you able to access the internet via the cellular network and receive or send SMS?
If so, this may be due to a problem with your SIM card. If there is an AT&T corporate store nearby, you can tell the store about the problem and request a new SIM card to see if this resolves it. The AT&T store can activate your iPhone with the new SIM card.

  • I cannot receive or make calls any suggestion of what to do?

I cannot receive or make calls any suggestion of what to do?

i am having the same problem with this new 4s. what did u do?

  • Cannot receive or make call and receive or send text messages in areas where there is a high wifi signal.

Please help me. I just got my iphone 4 last february and it was working just fine. But recently, i am having problems with its phone features such as text messaging and call. Most of he times i have a full network signal yet i cannot receive or make a call, receive or send text messages. I have also observed that everytime i am in a wifi zone where its signal strenght is high, this problem always exists. There seems to be no problem with its other features...please help me anyone.

Wi-Fi has nothing to do with making/receiving calls, or sending/receiving text messages... those features only work over the cellular network.
Have you contacted the carrier to rule out network issues or swap out the SIM card to eliminate that as a possibility?
What about Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings?

  • "FaceTime failed" cannot receive or make calls

I'm on a 2010 MacBook pro and whenever I try to make facetime calls, it immediately says "FaceTime failed" without ringing or anything for all of my contacts. When I receive a call, it rings but it has the same message when I try to accept the call. I've tried everything on the support page and have even changed my DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. I also tested it out while tethered to my iphone's LTE and it had the same problem, which rules out network problems.

    Hi,
There are many threads here that report people have taken their Mac to an Apple Store and have had the Serial Number "replaced".
However in those cases the Mother or Logic Board had been replaced in  a Repair or Refurbishment.
To Reinstall an earlier version of the OS by using the DVD Install disks you would have to Insert them then Boot the Mac from that Disk.
Then you would have to open Disk Utility from the Menu bar and Erase the current OS and other contents before you could run the actual Install.
This does lose everything on that Drive so it is best to create a Back up First.
I am not sure what else to suggest.

  • Cannot receive or make calls AT ALL!!! Iphone 4s

This is my 2nd iPhone. I had the 1st replaced due to calls freezing on the dialing screen, but dial no tone to be heard.
Despite this, the reciever would still get the call, just no signification on my end that it had been calling let alone picked up.
This has now happend again, except now my texts will no longer tell me they have sent, yet are still received on the other end.
Has anyone else had this issue?
I have my iphone 4s since November, to which has been replaced already in that time.
I am on o2, in the UK. Any advice would be grand.
    Liam.

When I received the replacement, I set as new iPhone.
I have tried restoring, resetting and restarting and had no luck.
I haven't contacted the carrier, which will be my next step.
I upgraded in Nov 11, and got the replacement in Dec 11. Both of which are having the same issue. I inserted a friend's sim into my phone and had the same issue, also put my new sim into my old 3gs and had the same problem. Which is frustrating as I resorted to this through the time I was wating for a replacement and it worked fine.
what all of the devices have in common is that they are all running on IOS 5, coincidence? considering the amount of bugs that have been reported?

  • I have 2 different email addresses for Facetime.  I now cannot receive or  make calls on one of the emails. I deleted, then readied the nonworking address, but I get a message that says "Email address is already verified for another Apple ID." Help!

When I open Facetime, I see a blank screen now- no contacts or numbers. How do I add this email address to my account? Thank you.

I have also noticed the same "problem".  I do not fully understand the impact of using the same ID on multiple computers and devices if I want to keep them all in sync.

Settings you make in ACR for a Raw file are written to the separate XMP side car file. (The Camera Raw preferences has this set by default and to my opinion it should stay so, but the other option is to save them in a central database)
However, opening the same file in ACR and make new adjustments the previous settings are overwritten by the new ones. You can save them separately but that would be a hell of a job. If you want to be on the safe side you should make a proper back up of the whole folder (be sure to have the XMP files included, by default those are hidden files in Bridge) before someone else starts playing with the settings. However, you can always go back to the default version using the option in the little menu icon next to the name op f the panel (first panel is Basic). click on the icon and from the provided menu choose 'Reset Camera Raw Defaults' to go back to the originals.
I don't use jpeg in ACR very often but I believe ACR settings for jpeg and tiff are written in the XMP data in the file itself instead of a separate XMP file. You can revert to default or make new settings that also overwrite the older settings.
Making adjustments in ACR shows the results in Bridge (it uses the XMP data for the preview) but to make it visible in other apps you also have to save them in Photoshop itself to make the changes persistent so that mail and print reflect your settings.
So basically, let her play with the files and either chose the option to save the files (bottom left in ACR Window and choose the wanted provided options or open and save them in Photoshop to get the proper result. And if you want to be on the safe side let here use her own copies and keep the originals to your self.

  • Iphone 6 plus can not receive or make calls

Intermittently, I can not eceive or make calls on my iPhone 6 plus.  Callers tell me that they call me, they hear the phone ring a number of times and it goes to voice mail.  I get the voice mail notification but my phone did not ring.  When I try to make a call, I get a recording that 'the number or code that you dialed is not valid.'  Other times the message is that I am not authorized to make a call on this device.  Other time it works fine.
I can not detect a pattern.  I reset the PRL ( Iuse Sprint).  I did a soft reset on phone.  I called Sprint and they did something on their end but it didn't work.  They told me to take the phone back to Apple.
    Any suggestions?

I have this same problem and just finished speaking with AT&T (though I cannot make or receive any calls). The technical support staff opened a case. This problem seems like it may be related to the problem reported in the following threads:

  • SPA8000 & SPA2102 cannot receive 2 concurrent calls

    Hi there
We have a issue where a VoIP line is configured on line 1 of a SPA2102 ATA and cannot receive 2 concurrent incoming calls
    Example:
First incoming call comes on line 1 -> phone rings (no one picks up)
Second incoming call comes on line 1 (while first call continue ringing) -> caller gets a busy tone (we want both calls to ring at the same time on line 1 not go to a busy tone)
Does anyone have a resolution to this or is this the limitation of the ATA VoIP hardware?
We have tested with a SPA2102, SPA800, PAP2T and they all do the same thing.
    Thanks

In my experience It's no possible because the first call is still in the setup phase. You can get the ring back tone only after a connection and configuring the call waiting service.
    Best regards.

  • Frozen screen on one contact - cannot exit, or make calls

I'm using Iphone 3G.  I can use all aspects of the phone except it freezes on phone.  It has frozen on one of my contacts so I don't have access to keypad to make calls.  The only way I can make a call is to make a new contact and phone that way.
To access my messages I have to use a different telephone and call my number.

Have you tried restoring it in iTunes?

  • My iPhone 5 won't receive or make calls. Is there a way of unbarring it?

MY iPhone 5 won't make or receive calls, is there a way that I can check to see whether my phone is blocked?

Then you need to explain exactly what is happening? What have you done to try and troubleshoot the problem?
Who is your carrier (and what country are you in)?  Where exactly did you get the phone? What changed? Has this phone ever worked on this carrier? Are you getting any error messages either on the phone or in iTunes?
