  • Fire-wire device usage at MacMini Late2014

    Dear all.
As for Mac Mini late 2014, I can see fire-wire port is removed.
Is there any way to use my fire-wire device such as a fire-wire audio interface or fire-wire external HDD?
Can I use these devices by thunderbolt to firewire adapter that sold at apple store?

    Yes, you need a > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r
However,,, if your audio interface uses FireWire 400, then you will also need a FireWire 800 to 400 cable or adapter.

  • Computer not reading fire wire devices

My computer is able to read my fire wire hard drive and download stuff onto my ipod but when I hook up devices such as my camera or my Canopus ADVC100 it is not able to detect them. This happens in both FCP and imovie. Anyone else ever have this problem?

  • Fire wire devices can not be displayed

    Hi,
I have on my Mac Pro the problem that the Hard disks that are connected with the Firewire connections don't display or work. Also the Audio interface (Digi003) does not respond.
When I check in the Mac information (about this mac), and I check the Firewire section, I get the messeage, displayed in red : "firewire devices can not be displayed".
Of course is my question : what does this mean, and what do I have to do about it?
    Thanks for answering.
    Best regards,
    Peter

If you haven't rebooted since this started, try that first. Otherwise reset the SMC.

  • FIRE WIRE DEVICES

what should i do ? when ever i hook up a firewire 800 device to my imac it does not see the device. i have a brand new  G DRIVE AND IT DOES NOT RECONIZE the drive. Iam using OS X10.9.3
    PLEASE HELP ME.
    Iam using brand new cables
light come on, on the hard drive but the drive will not mount

Does the device appear in the list in System Information > FireWire? (About This Mac > More Info > System Report.)
If there's nothing there, then your FW port may be toast. It is possible to damage them, particularly by hot-swapping.

  • Fire wire truble

I have an External Isight attached to a 2ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (1gb Ram) running 10.5.3
The Isight has worked on my old G5 and this very mac before, but for some reason the camera has stopped working (little green light comes on, then clicks off) I have no other fire wire device to test, but fear the sole fire wire port on the mini is busted… how do I test to see if the hardware is screwed up?

  • Windows cannot recognize iPOD mini

I just bought a new iPOD mini (pink 4Gb), but when I conected the iPOD to my laptop and other desktop, the computer always shows 'cannot recognize the usb device, the divice might be malfunction', so iPOD shown as unknown device in my usb controller, when double click that, shows no driver suitable. I tryied all methods I can find from the website and none can resolve the problem, then I request repair service twice, but still didn't resolve the problem. When conected to computer, baterry shows charging normally, it seems the cable is right, and my computer meet all reqiures. Is anybody meet such questions? Could anyone give me kind help?

Yes, I tried 5Rs, different USBs, different computers, all doesn't work. I saw from one article about the format, then I check mine find the last item in 'setting-about' is 'model', not 'format: windows', so I thought might be because this, I download MacDrive, xPlay, they still doesn't work, then I tried MAC computer, after connected, it didn't show on the desktop, but I check the repair service results, all says found no problem.

  • Fire Wire issues with DAW and External Hardrive

Hello Everyone. I'm running a new Mac pro and I have several Firewire hardware plugged up to it. The main issue I have Is may DAW (Presonus FirePod) freezes and looses it's sound. I have to shut down and restart on a lot. I'm not sure if my fire wire Graid 500 is conflciting with it. Is there any way to solve this issue with multiple fire wire devices hooked up?
    Vito

Most FW cabels are not designed to have hard drives and consumer electronics together. Never daisy chain or use together on a hub.
I invested in PCIe FW800, trouble with freezing coming out of deep sleep or sleep. With Viewsonic LCD the fans would spin (very slow but never totally off) and wake up fine. With Apple Cinema 23" the system now freezes coming out of sleep. So Aaxeon PCIe may not be a good idea (unless they are aware and have improved support or chipset - bought through OWC for $109).
But I do think PCIe (maybe FW400) is the way to go. I prefer to have RAID with a "one drive per channel" making eSATA preferable. Otherwise, you are using one channel for all devices. And one drive per cable.
SoftRAID folks warn against the problems with consumer electronics, as does Granite Digital (which sells pricey high-end SCSI and FW cables).

  • Fire wire hub ?

    Hi there,
Could anyone tell me if it is possible to buy fire wire hubs ...I can't find them in this "soccer country" (note that I did not say Suc...!)
I know that many will be tempted to say that we need not hubs when you can have long chains and connect devices directly to each other.
Unfortunately, many devices such as my G4 PWBook, a few of my "portable" external drives, have only one fire wire port (400). On the PWB there is one 800 on which I can plug in only certain type of devices.
In the "FCP world" we hear everyday that it is highly recommended to use external sources to store media. If I want to use Isight to chat I can't have any other 400 fire wire device pluged in at the same time. Hence my question.
    Thanks in advance
    Bernard

    Hi Zebulun
I am going to be in Chicago very soon.
when? drop a line, give a holler, maybe we can hoist a Guinness! i'm in and out all july and half of august.
Any recommendation for the cardbus. Would the Apple
store be a good place to buy that ?
    Thanks
there've been lots of recommendations on this board for cardbuses. i've used this before, it did the trick. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/LaCie/109948/

  • What fire  wire cable?

I want to attach a fire wire device to my new Mac mini. I can not find a cable with a connector that fits the little fire wire receptical on the Mac. The standard plug is 6 pin, the same as on my old FW800 Mac. So I bought a 6 pin to 4 pin, not right. The IEEE 1394 says there are 6 pin to 6 pin (which I have) , 6 pin to 4 pin, and 6 pin to 9 pin. Could the Mac have a 9 pin receptical?? I wouldn't ask but the cables are $8.00 each and the store won't take it back once it's ripped open.
    Thanks Bob

Bob, there is a brief description of the options on this page:
    http://thelightroomlab.com/2009/06/firewire-connectors-a-profusion-of-plugs/
Face with the same problem I chose to buy an adapter. I use it everyday to connect my TM backup drive. This is the one:
    http://www.sonnettech.com/product/fw_adapter.html
I did have one problem using the adapter, which I reported here:

  • Video thru Fire Wire

    hi,
I plan to get a fire wire device to play out video to another
    screen.
budged is low, so I'm looking for any suggestion.
    Canopus ?
    any other ?
    thank you,
    Wolfgang

    Marrack,
I own a Canapus... it works great as firewire is concern. But for best perfomance overall PCI is the way to go. Best Video Card for low budget is Blackmagic DeckLink $300 US; unfortunately not Firewire.

I connect both hard disks that get power from power supply normally. Also have ever changed the format as GUID. Which always use the power cord . I felt confusion why the issue just happened connect both hard disks with extra power at the same time. If i used one hard disk connect to firewire port . Another firewire port connect other firewire device . No problem at all.

  • Fire Wire: MBP OS X.4.11 Can't see external devices. PLEASE HELP!

Fire Wire: MBP OS X.4.11 Can't see external devices. PLEASE HELP!
My MBP will not "see" my new MB or my back-up drive—both connected via a firewire 400 (6 pin) cable. Both running Tiger X.4.11
I have used this cable to connect my MBP and a TiBook in the past as well as to back-up onto the LaCie e-drive.
I have run "disk repair" and "permissions" on both machines.
BTW—"permissions" are regularly out of wack on the MBP. But, the disk is OK according to Disk Utilities.
I also cannot put the machine to sleep after logging out. Has a hard time shutting down as well. Sometimes I need to force a re-boot.
Can't run Disk Doctor because I don't have a bootable disk yet. It's coming via snail mail.
The new MB "sees" the e-drive connected with the same cable.
I can't transfer my files to the new MB nor can I back up.
Is it time for a "clean install"? Makes me nervous that I cannot backup before trying anything drastic.
    Can someone please help me?
    Thanks in advance.
    Tek

Put the more recalcitrant computer into Target Drive mode by starting it with the T key down until you see the yellow on blue screen. Then connect it to the other machine by firewire cable while both are already awake.
I hope that you did not do any upgrades while you had external drives connected... that is an automatic problem. Always disconnect from externals and accessories before doing any upgrades. Always back up before doing any upgrades.
Firewire networking is not the same as using a computer in Target Disc mode. In Target disc mode, you are using the internal drive of the Td computer as an external. That should allow you to run disk utility. Do use the proper disc utility version for the OSX version that is on problem drive. ie don't use the Leopard disc utility for the Tiger disc or vice versa.
