Cannot reconnect, drive listed as off-line

Running a MacPro 1st generation, system 10.6.7. Installed Aperture a few months ago (3.1.1), good stuff. My system was acting a little strange so decided to do a clean install, and restore from Time Machine. Everything went well, until I booted up Aperture. No pictures, all I got is blank outlined tiles where the pictures should be. Click Faces, and all the faces are there, but open one and the file is empty.
Go to file,  'Locate Referenced Files' and it lists my Macintosh HD as being off line, with no apparent way to put it back on-line. I assure you it is on-line, it is my main drive with system and all my files.

1.  IMPORTANT.  Make a copy of your back-up Aperture Library.  You don't want to have this overwritten yet.
2.  What shows up in the lower half of the dialog "Referenced Files in Selection" that comes up when you use the "Locate Referenced Files" command?  If your current system drive is there, you should be able to navigate to where your Masters are (and were) located.  If so, go back to Photos view, select all, execute "Locate Referenced Files", and then match up one file and click "Reconnect All".
Aperture is very picky about drive locations.  My guess is that to Aperture, your restored data is on a different drive, even though it is physically the same drive.

Why doesn't iPod touch save articles in the Reading list for off line reading?

Because Apple did not set it up that way. Email the list to you. The Users Guide says:
View an article in Reader: Tap the Reader button, if it appears in the address field.
Adjust the font size: Tap .
    Share the article: Tap .
Note: When you email an article from Reader, the full text of the article is sent, in addition to the link.

  • How can my own hard drive be considered off line to find referenced files?

my iPhoto library for some reason could not be imported to Aperture when I converted to Aperture.
However, I selected the option to create a referenced library and it worked fine.
I upgraded my hard drive from 160 to 750 at a professional apple reseller and they copied all of my data, programs etc as well.
While I never checked to see if this was the case before, becuase I had no reason to check for it, I notice now that all of the aperture thumbnails have the "reference offline" icon and when i try to "locate reference", I can do so, but Aperture still considers my own hard drive offline!!!   How's that for strange.

Every hard drive has a volume name (they also have a UUID but I don't think Aperture cares about that.)  If the new drive was not given the same name as your old drive then as far as Aperture is concerned, the drive it's looking for is not present (it's looking for a drive with a specific name and not finding it.)
While YOU know that all the data on the old hard drive was copied to the new hard drive, Aperture doesn't know that (and makes no assumptions).  So if the volume name it's looking for isn't found, then the drive is "offline". Aperture is working as it should.
You could rename the hard drive back to the original name, but then that would just cause it lose all any new 'referenced' masters you added since upgrading the drive.
    To fix:
You'll need to reconnect the masters.  In the lower right corner of the thumbnail you should see a small icon which ordinarily has a tiny rectangle with an arrow pointing away (indicating this image is a "referenced" master).  If the master is missing you'll have a little orange triangle with the "!" inside it (indicating a problem).
In the main menu, select "File" -> "Locate Referenced Files..."
A box will appear and you can check the box which reads "Show Only Files Not Found" (this will hide all the files which are currently fine so that you only have to deal with the files that have a problem.)
In the lower part of the panel is filesystem browser.  You can navigate to the directory drive & directory where these files are located and click "Reconnect" or, if they're all in the same place, "Reconnect All".
    Pick "Done" when you've finished.
If you don't like using "referenced" masters, you can tell Aperture to bring the masters into the Aperture Library so that it will manage the files for you (and avoid this problem in the future).  In the main menu pick "File" -> "Consolidate Masters".  You'll be given the choice to "copy" the files (it'll copy the masters but still leave the old files back in their original locations... but Aperture will no longer need those originals.)  or you can "move" the files (Aperture will copy them into the library then delete the original after the copy is completed... effectively "migrating" the masters into your library and cleaning up the originals when it's done.

    Tim

  • Is there a way to save InDesign CS6's help files to hard drive for access off-line?

I can't figure out how to do this. I often take my laptop where there is no internet or weak internet. Help doesn't work when I'm there. Surely there's a way to do this, right? How?
I'm using the Middle Eastern version 8.0.2 (Hebrew-English). I need the help in English.
    Thanks!

You're right, of course. Probably most things are the same. Nonetheless I did find the CS6 Help File PDF here: https://web.archive.org/web/20130511110603/http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/indesign_reference.p df.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. If I hadn't had the link you originally sent, I'd not have found this link to old CS6 help.

  • Delete old 'off line' drive'

How do I delete from the list of 'off line' drives a drive that is no longer used?  All files that were on it are  either in the main catalog or no long necessary & have been deleted.   I had reconnected all pictures but when I select all thumbnails & ask that the pictures date be written to file this old drive still appears even though its empty.
    Thanks in advance

Can you please check the folder tree by clicking Ctrl+T or Cmd+T and see if there is/are still some folder(s) in the Offline Media tree. If yes, you would need to delete them.
Which version of PSE you have?
    Thanks

  • ESXi 4.1 and HP P212 - tape drive goes off-line

    Hi everyone,
Im having a problem with a tape drive going offline and I hope you guys can help me out.
I’m running ESXi 4.1.0 (348481) on a brand new HP DL380 G7 server, the server has a HP Smart Array P212 controller with a HP Ultrium 4 tape drive connected to it.
I installed 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 VM and assigned the tape drive to the server.
CA ArcServe r16 is installed for making back-ups and all latest patches and updates are installed.
It seems the drive gets set off-line during the day. Scheduled back-up at night won’t run because the drive is off-line but if I manually set the drive online I'm running a test back-up straight after it runs successful.
I have checked the CA ArcServe tape log and noticed the following errors:
    [Unexpected SCSI Sense Code [ABSL:2020 CMD<TEST UNIT READY> SC:22h 34]
    DRV:1 Hit HARDWARE_ERROR[61700] from TUR
    JobID[0] SCSIPort Error DevType[5] LDN[1] SN[HU1113FRDN] CMD[TEST UNIT READY] Sent[13:57:01] MS Error[61700]
SetDeviceOnline::The device [1] has been set as off-line
Google shows some post about other people having some problems with the P212 controller, even though the compatibility list says its supported.
Im just wondering if anyone has seen this problem before and if the P212 controller indeed is causing problems.
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex

Hey I'm having the same issue on ESXi 5.5 with arcserve 16.5 sp1. Did you ever find a solution?

  • Reconnect with changed off-line media path

Hi.  I've had my catalogued images on a network drive for several years.  Recently had a major failure and re-built the drive, re-loaded from backup etc.
Unfortunately, since the overall requirements for the drive had changed over the years, when re-building I didn't re-create exactly the same folder tree as before.  While all my images are there (30,000+) and in the same relative tree as when they were catalogued, they are one level higher in the overall tree.  As a result, the catalog (PSE7) doesn't marry up with the path to the folders and Organizer displays a red 'off-line' media icon for every single image.  (None of the images is marked as needing to be re-connected since Organizer thinks the problem is the media being off-line rather than it being on-line but with a different path.)
With this many images, re-cataloguing the images isn't a realistic option.  What can I do to get Organizer to recognise the drive is not off-line media and that the images are all there but on a different path ?
    Thanks for any help.

To cut a long story short ... the original network drive was a Maxtor in RAID1.  When one of its HDD died, it instantly became unbootable.  Support told me there were no user replaceable drives inside and that as it was out of warranty to throw it away !   What's the point of RAID1 if you have to do that ?
Instead I downloaded hacked firmware and rebuilt with two new HDDs, then re-loaded from a USB back-up drive.  Had been running fine again since.  But its NAS functionality is limited compared to modern devices and I wasn't prepared to repeat the exercise when a HDD died again.  So I bought a new NAS, moved the HDDs into it, re-formatted, and re-loaded my Catalog from the USB drive again (ie. not from the re-built drive but from a backup taken before it failed).  Downtime for the whole thing was about a fortnight which I could cope with.  But the new NAS has different reserved share-names (as well as a different volume #) so I couldn't use the original names that are in the Catalog and anyway I wanted to split the data between more than one share to exploit the additional functionality.  So when re-loading I put the images into a folder tree starting at the share-name root rather than one level lower.  I expected to have to do a lot of "re-connect missing file" operations.
Instead I found that Organizer doesn't think they are disconnected, but off-line, so doesn't allow you to try re-connecting them.  Starting over with the missing tree level re-inserted isn't an option because I can't create the same root share-names on the new NAS anyway, and its volume # will still be different.  What looks to be needed is a way to get Organizer to accept the folders are online and allow me to re-connect the images, as if everything had happened on a local drive, not a network drive.
    Any ideas gratefully received.

  • Cannot print to canon MP160, dialog box says printer off line, but it is on line, OK printing with IE

I just installed the Canon MP160 printer. I downloaded the driver software from Canon version 12.1.4.0.(2/8/2008). I can print documents fine from Internet Explorer. When I go to print from Firefox the printer dialog box says the printer is "off line" and I get printer queue error messages. I can also print OK from windows. I have a PC 32 bit with Windows Vista.

I think your issue is that even though you have the latest 10.2.0 driver for 10.9, you added the printer using the previous v2.43 PPD. So open Print & Scan, remove the current printer for the iRC3380 and click the plus button to add again. After selecting IP > LPD and entering the IP address, ensure you select "Canon iR C2880/C3380" in the Use menu. Note that there is no mention of UFRII in the model name, as is the case with the previous UFR2 v2.43 driver.
Thanks for the suggestion.  I did that this morning (see Step 1) and deleted the existing printer before re-adding a new printer and using the newly updated driver and printer description.  Here's what I get:
You can see my model number is listed in there as is the the proprietary Canon UFRII language.
Once added, here's what happens next:
So it would appear, at this point, that the printer is installed and communicating and that I should be good to print.
Alas, I get the same error message I've been getting.  back to square one.

  • How do I connect to computers that are being used in the lab, but have no address listed on the "all computers" screen and say "off line" while they are being used?

Thanks for any help I can get.  I'm the new guy here at school, and did not set up the system, so I'm not familiar with any of the individual steps for correcting problems.  My question is listed in the window up top.
    Jim

Thanks for the response. I tried to find out what you asked.  For example:
    1. Computer #35 is listed on the "all computers" screen but says "access denied", "not authorized",  right click for " get info" has no administrators listed, and I don't know how to add my computer as one.
    2.  "Scanner" screen # 35 is not listed either in "Bonjour", or "Local Network" (ethernet interface)
    3.  "Scanner 2" screen - same.
    4.  "Scanner 3" screen - same.
    5.  "Computer Lab" screen #35 is listed, but says "off line", "access denied"
I hope this gives us somewhere to start and go from there.  Thanks.

Does the ext directory have the php_oci8.dll? In the original steps the PHP dir is renamed. In the given php.in the extension_dir looks like it has been updated correctly. Since PHP distributes php_oci8.dll by default I reckon there would be a very good chance that the problem was somewhere else. Since this is an old thread I don't think we'll get much value from speculation.

  • TS3276 cannot receive or send mail, server off line "ssl off" how do I turn ssl on?

Cannot receive or send mail.  Server off line  "ssl off " . how do I turn on ssl?

    Hello there, gillaf.
To turn adjust your SSL settings the following Knowledge Base article will be of assistance:
Mac OS X Mail: About Secure Email Communications (SSL)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA25586
    Setting up Mail for SSL
Important: These steps require Mac OS X 10.1.3 or later.
    1. Open the Mail application.
    2. Choose Preferences from the Mail application menu.
    3. Click Accounts.
    4. Select an account name, and click Edit.
    5. Click the Account Options tab.
    6. Click the Use SSL checkbox to enable this option.
Selecting the checkbox will auto-populate the default port numbers. If there is a non-default port number already present, it will not change. You can manually enter a number if your ISP gave you a different port number. Be sure you enter the correct port for your mail server here when selecting SSL, even if it auto-populates a default number.
Note: If SSL is accidentally set up when it should not be, or is configured using the incorrect port for your mail server, an alert box with a message similar to this may appear:
"Fetch Error: Couldn't connect to a POP host name mail.apple.com."
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.
