Cannot record audio track within timeline

I've opened the audio mixer in PP CS4 and can only successfully record a voice over if I move to outside the end of the timeline. Trying to record on an unused track where there are video tracks above results in nothing-no audio track is created.
What am i doing wrong?
Thx.

Once again, thank you to the most gracious advisor in these forums.
I will second that!

  • Cannot Record Audio In CS6

I am trying to record an audio track in Premire Pro CS6 and cannot seem to get it to work.
I have a USB microphone that funcations fine, I can see the levels in Premiere and it reconds well in other programs. When I sletect my track for recording I can see the levels in the Audio Mixer, but when I press Record then Play the levels do not transfer over to the Master track and after I stop recording the audio does not get tracked, it was like it didn't record.
I have followed the steps in this article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WS1c9bc5c2e465a58a91cf0b1038518aef7-7f3ca .html as well as other video tutorials from other websites.
I follow the steps exactly and it will not record.

I was actually able to solve my issues. It turns out I had an In and Out point set on the sequence timeline. If you have an In and Out point audio will ONLY record between the two points and no where else. After removing the In and Out points I was able to record audio just fine.

  • How to show different recorded audio channels in timeline

I've recorded an interview with two microphones (one was really bad, so I only want to use the other recorded microphone). I imported the clip from the tape camera into FCP X. Now in FCP X on the timeline I only see one audio track when I seperate it from the video. The two microphones seems to be 'mixed'. This was different in FCP 7 where you see both audio channels seperated.
How do I manage to seperate the 2 audio channels into 2 channels. I'v troed with Channel Configuration via Audio Inspector but I do not understand it.
    Thanks, Pim

Select the clip in the timeline and in the audio tab in the inspector in the channels seection switch to dual mono. You can switch off a track here if you wish.

  • Using logic: recording audio tracks

Im fairly amateur at Logic. How do you guys setup your song (arrange window etc..) when you want to record your external hardware synths? Do you always record just the midi? What about when you want to record the actual audio?
I am trying to see if theres a cleaner more "logical" way of recording my songs. I know logic has a million ways of doing any one thing. I have read a few books on Logic, but almost every time the writer's studio is all virtual and hardly lends any good advice to a person who has many external synths they would like to record!
I have 8 analog inputs on my audio interface and I actually have 4 synths (I sequentially put them in 1,2,3,4(L/R..L/R.. and so on.) I can setup the plugins and internal synths like a pro. Im much less confident when introducing logic to my external hardware lol I wonder if most of us record one track at a time? I'm curious to how other musicians approach getting their hardware and logic structured for recording. I often find I am frustrated that I KNOW this isn't the right setup becuase I lose concentration on the most important thing - music. Any advice would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Dual 1GHZ G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   2408mk3, unitor8

I have 3 outboard midi synths that I use. I found 2 good ways to monitor within logic
    First way:
I have set up 3 stereo input objects in my environment, which represent 6 of the inputs on my 828. I have my synths audio outs connected to those inputs and routed through the input object to my main outs
I record the midi on midi tracks, Audio on audio tracks and VI’s on instrument tracks and mix everything together in logic. when it’s time for a final mix. I have to bounce in real time, you can’t bounce the inputs off line. but it works great. If I have a mdi part that I want to tweak more, I either record the part to audio for processing or I use my second method
    second way:
I do it this way when I want to add more processing to a sound on an outboard synth. I take an audio instrument track and instead of the input being the ESX24 or other VI, you assign it’s input to “Eternal” which is like an input object. after you select the External plug, a box comes up where you select your synth, midi channel and output channel.
Then you record midi just like a midi track. But since you are now using an audio instrument track, all of Logic’s plug ins, like compressors and reverbs, and so on, are all available for your outboard synth just as they would be for a VI. Same rule applies for mix down, you have to mix down in real time.
Hope this give you some ideas

  • Cannot Record Audio using Logic Express 7.0.0 on 13" Macbook

Help! I have Logic Express 7.0.0 and am running it in on an Intel model Macbook 1.8Ghz, 13''. I do not have an external soundcard. Will this version of Logic Express allow me to record live audio if I do not have an external soundcard? I only want to be able to record & edit a single audio track, so thought I might be able to. I cannot seem to get the 'R' (Record) button to appear despite activating it in the >View< section, so I cannot arm any tracks, and so cannot record. Is there a bug with this version of Logic and the Intel Macs? Do I need to update? If so, what would be the best way to update?

  • Audio Tracks in Timeline

While working in Final Cut Pro 4, some of my audio tracks in the timeline have a thin colored bar running along the entire top of the clip. Some clips have a lavender/light purple bar, some have a green bar, some have no bar at all. Some clips have a lavendar bar, which then changes to green.
What do these bars mean?! Nowhere in any of the Final Cut Pro manuals or in a third party book I own can I find even a mention of these color bars. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks again for your time and trying to help. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough in beginning...it certainly was unintentional and I had no intention of wasting anyone's time.
Anyway, I also posted my dilmma on the LA Final Cut Pro User Group (http://www.lafcpug.org/phorum/read.php?f=1&i=97563&t=97561#reply_97563), and a guy came back with a response that pretty much explains the situation.
The bottom line is that if an audio clip has a different sample rate than the sequence, it will show up with a colored bar at the top of the audio clip. (The one thing that is not clear, however, is why the colored bar is sometimes purple, sometimes green, even in the same clip.)
Sure enough, some of my DV audio that originated from a older Canon XL1 had a bizarre sample rate of 48009.3 Hz. (Video caputred from the same camera also drifts out of synch if captured in blocks larger than 30 minutes. I'm guessing the problems are related.)
Here's a link to the guy's website with information on the issue and how to fix it:
    http://www.rippletraining.com/engine/index.php?action=docs&doc=410
Anyway, hope this information is useful.
Thanks again for trying to help me, and again, apologies for any unintentional obfuscation on my part.
    Regards,
    Bill

  • Cannot move audio track

i imported a video (WMV) in Premiere Pro CS4 and first thing: it placed the audio track on track 5... i cannot move it to 1 as i woild have expected it to go from start...
as i import images only for video layers, there is no issue.
But now i need to place additional audio (only) tracks and they cannot be placed on other tracks: instead it goes on track 5 and just replace that section!
what have i done (forgot, involuntarily set, or else?  )
This is the first project since i had to reinstall the entire CS4 PROD PREMIUM suite after a clean install of Windows.  I don't think i ever had this issue before...
    Thanks for your help,
    Rob

Yes, one limitation of PrPro's Track setup is that one cannot just click+drag on a Track, to move it up/down, like most DAW programs allow. Instead, we do a little "dance," as you did - Remove Unused Tracks, then create New Tracks, where, and as is required.
One can set up a default Track structure, that will create what you want, when starting a New Project. My customized default is 3 Video Tracks, 2 Mono Tracks, 4 Stereo Tracks, and the Master is usually 5.1. As I seldom need a 5.1 Track (other than the Master), I do not include any, but can add them, if needed.
One neat feature of PrPro, as it does need channel-counts to match, to be used, is that if one had, say 2 mono tracks only, and then had a stereo Clip, if that is dragged to the Master (it will not go onto the Master), PrPro will then create a new 2-channel stereo Track for that Clip.
Good luck, and glad that things are working for you. You might want to give some thought to that initial Track setup, and make any changes, based on the majority of your Projects.

  • Invisible audio tracks in timeline

I've been working on a music video, so I've got multiple video clips in my timeline, but I've unlinked them from their original audio files and subsequently deleted the audio tracks they were assigned to. The only audio track I've kept is the original mp3 I am using. This was inserted on the audio track named "Soundtrack". For some reason, this track is no longer visible on my timeline. My Video tracks 1-7 are visible, but no audio tracks whatsoever. I can hear it fine and adjust it in the audio mixer, but I can't see it. Any idea how to get it back?
NB: When I create a new sequence or project, the audio tracks are visible as usual. Just not in the sequence I'm working on. Also, if I add a new video clip with audio attached, I can preview the video and hear the audio, but again- the audio track isn't visible on the timeline. Please help! This is highly annoying...

Are you using PrElements? PrPro does not have a "Soundtrack," but PrE does.
My guess is that you need to scroll up/down in your Timeline, and you will find the phantom Audio Clip(s).
Also, here is the Premiere Elements Forum. Maybe the MODs will move this post to that forum, if you ARE on PrE.
Last, some users of PrE have had problems with both Soundtrack and Narration, the two fixed Audio Tracks. When this happens, I recommend that those Clips get moved to a free, regular Audio Track.
Well, one more: I always convert any MP3 files to PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit, before Import. Many MP3 files can cause issues. I use Adobe Audition, but the great, free utility, Audacity, can do this too.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edit] The word "Sequence" indicates PrPro, and NOT PrE, so I was wrong about the program. In either program, look for the scroll bars to the far right of the Timeline Panel, and just scroll.
To control the placement of Audio Assets, one thing to think about is that your source footage will determine which Audio Tracks will be available. The channel-count MUST match. A 1-channel source can ONLY go onto a 1-channel Audio Track. If you have Audio, that you do not want disturbed, just Lock that Track (note: ONLY in PrPro, as PrE does not have Track Locks).

    hi,

I set the the core audio driver as in/output on audio preferences. still do´nt work.
I can import wav´s and I can hear them but I can´t record.
Do I need an external USB Interface or is a driver missing? What might be wrong in my setup.
please help!!! It drives me nuts.

In the arrange window, there's a VIEW menu. Click on it and you can select which buttons, etc. you want to see.

  • SOUNDS LIKE a "PHASER" is ON WHEN RECORDING AUDIO TRACKS!!!

I've got logic pro 7 and am running on a mac book pro.
I opened a new blank project with one audio track.
I recorded guitar out of an amp on this track (using the macs internal mic,) with NO effects turned on. None on the amp and none in logic.
When I listen to the recording back it sounds like a phaser is turned on.
But when I play live and listen to it out of the amp it sounds fine.
Does anyone know what this could possibly be??
It is driving me crazy. Thanks.

Sounds to me like he may be hearing the internal Mic feeding back.
At first I was thinking the same thing, but if the internal mic was picking up feedback he would also be hearing that feedback, as he recorded. My impression is that it sounded OK to him while he recorded. Then again, maybe the amp is so loud he can only hear the amp, beacuse it's so much louder than the feedback. But if the amp is overwhelming the feedback from the perspective of his ears, then it's also probably overwhelming the feedback from the perspective of the mic. In other words, a hot level into the mic from the amp is probably a bigger problem than the mic picking up feedback.
I suppose both things could be happening.
Does it sound like an older late 1960's phaser with a diverse overtone series or a late 1980's phaser with the more focused sine wave generated audio signature?
Sometimes cool effects are discovered by accident. Someday someone will build a plugin designed to simulate the effect of putting your Mac's internal mic one inch from a huge stack cranked to eleven.

  • Connecting deleted video to audio track in timeline

I have made a narrative using audio, and I deleted the video sections. I want to re-connect the corresponding video to the audio, but cannot find a way to do this.
    Help would be most appreciated!
    Thanks

If I understand you correctly this audio finds its origin in a clip holding both audio and video. And now you are looking for the corresponding video?
If so, select the audio in the timeline. Navigate the pointer over it and press "f". This matches back to the original clip in the viewer. The viewer will open with the Audio Tab selected ("Stereo or Mono", but in the top of the viewer you can select the Video Tab. From there you can edit the video into the timline...

  • Recording Audio Track on iPhone - Loop Function off - howto?

How can I record an ongoing Audio track without Garage Band overwriting my recording every 8 bars?
Is surely simple - I just can't find the function.
    Thank you in advance.

You need to change the length of the song sections and turn on "automatic" for your recording, see this Help page:  http://help.apple.com/garageband/ipad/2.0/index.html#chs3c3ef5dc
Change the length of a section
Open the song section controls and tap the section you want to change.
Tap the up or down arrow next to Manual to lengthen or shorten the section incrementally by bars. You can swipe vertically to change it in larger values.
If you want the section to match the length of your next recording (to the nearest bar), turn on Automatic before you record. This is especially useful when recording improvisations or longer parts. The Automatic option is available only for the last (rightmost) section in a song.
Tap anywhere in Tracks view to close the song section controls.
When you shorten a section, any regions extending past the end of the section are shortened. When you lengthen a section, all regions that extend from the beginning to the end of the section now loop to the new end of the section. A section can be any number of bars, and the overall song can be up to 320 bars long.
