Cannot record through line-in in bootcamp MBP late summer '09 model

cannot record through line-in in bootcamp MBP late summer '09 model
audio source (mp3 player) <3.5mm male input-------------3.5mm male input>  line-in to macbook pro late summer 2009 model bootcamp windows xp sp2
when i select microphone in the audio panel - it works
when i select line-in and plug in the 3.5mm jack input to 3.5mm jack input to a fm radio for ex. it doesn't work
how do i make the line-in work?
i remember that when i first installed mac osx sl and windows xp bootcamp - the first couple of times around when partitioning the hd - the line-in worked a couple of times, in between times somewhere along the line i made some change to the spdif settings ?? or driver / to make the red light that comes on in the line-in jack go away -  the other method was to use a toothpick to push a tiny button inside the jack, did that once -but the redlight came back again after a restart on bootcamp side.
thanks in advance,
-r

Although I don't use it, the Line-Input jack should require a signal about 40dB higher than what a microphone alone puts out. If your cable only adapts the connector and does not provide amplification, I'm not surprised you get nothing. If you are lucky, you MIGHT get a low signal by going into System Prefs/Sound/input/line-in and turning the input level slider all the way up. But the real answer to to get a mike preamp or mixer, or a mike with line-level output. Some products take a mike input and convert it to digital into the USB port.

Let me be sure I understand what you need. You want to connect an audio device to the Audio In port of your MBP and record its output with the MBP.
If that's correct, what you need is audio editing software. You can use GarageBand, which probably came bundled with your MBP, but it's a bit heavy for that purpose alone. A better tool is the free audio editor Audacity. It's powerful and cross-platform, which means that it's a little rougher around the edges than is usually the case with Mac software, but you can't beat the price. There are others (Sound Studio, Amadeus Pro, TwistedWave, Wave Editor, and more), but you can get going with Audacity.

  • Trying to record through line in no wo

Hey, I am using a sound blaster li've sound card and want to record through the line in port on the back. I have bought a convertor which has allowed me to plug my guitar into the line in however when i play nothing comes out and my recording programs don't reconize the line in. Nothing is muted so that is not the problem. If anyone could help me out i would greatly appreciate it thanks.

yeah i have a similar problem when recording through my microphone. I like to play my little guitar, sing my little songs anre record them via microphone. I noticed, no sound. I had the volume turned down as to prevent the annoying "squuueeeeeeeeeel". but i noticed when i turn my speaker volume up, it records.. but then i get the occational "squeeeeeeeeel" hmm. i'm starting to notice, i'm having all sorts of problems with thsi card. lol

  • Problem recording through line-in p

I am trying to record some old jazz tracks from vinyl so I can restore the sound using Cool Edit 2000 and have connected my turntable, via an amplifier, to the line-in port on the soundcard. This system worked fine on my old PC which had no sound card but an integrated audio chip. However, it won't work on the 5. card. I get hardly any signal, not enough to show a wave form in CE2k. Turning up the volume on the amp doesn't help.
I have tried recording through Creative Recorder, Windows Recorder an CE2k but with no success.
I don't now if it is significant but the signal on the Creative Recorder monitor is exremely low (one green bar) and will not increase
I have identified the line in port as the blue coded one; I assume this is correct!!
Does anyone have any suggestions ?
    Regards
    Art Payne

    Have you
    - set your source level (source: LineIn) to max and
    - recording source to AnalogMix(Line,CD,...) (or LineIn) and adjust it's level (can be set by pressing the icon above rec level slider)
on Surround Mixer or/and Control Panel:Sounds and Multimedia -settings panel (see these are egual).

  • Cannot record through my speakers

What do I need to change to get a stereo mix so I can record through my speakers?

    Virtual Audio Cable works.
Also don't think speakers can be used as a microphone

  • Recording through Line-In causes hum

    Hello Apple User,
i want to record my vinyls to my Mac.
I always used the Line-In from my Powerbook and it worked fine.
Now, i got a new iMac Intel and i want to do the same thing, but when i plug the cable in, i get a hum, which i can hear through my headphones at the mixer.
It's like a feedback hum from the computer.
    Setup
    Technics MKII > Ecler HAK 320 > Cinch-Line-In Adapter > iMac
Is the hard-drive too close to the Audio-in ?
    Or any other idea ?

ok, i answered it by myself.
    It was the power cable.

In Multitrack view, Options, there is a Monitoring option where you should be able to set Audition Mix to Always.
This doesn't appear in Edit View.

  • High-frequency permanent distortion while recording through Line-In

    Hi Everyone!
I'm recording music from my MiniDisc Player connected with Audio Cable to Line-In port. I'm using Real Instrumen track for this. When I record or even only listen to the music I hear permanent High-frequency Tone in background. I can record with no problems but my recordings are always accopanied with this distortion. I've checked it out also on Windows (Boot Camp) and there are no such noices. Somebody knows what could help? Maybe it's something with audio drivers?

  • Cannot record in creative wave studio / Audigy 2

I have a windows xp x64 machine with a Audigy 2 ZS. I've been able to do?recording through line-in using the creative wave studio and the older drivers for audigy 2 ZS but after I updated to the latest driver I can't get a signal from line-in anymore. I can still hear the audio but it simply won't record it. I'm very sure the setting I used in both wave studio options and the audigy surround mixer didn't change (recording from analog mix / what I hear ). Even the windows built-in?sound recorder couldn't record anything. I see other people posting similar problem but there doesn't seem to be a fix to that. I would like to know?if that really is a driver issue. I want to find the older drivers and stick to that until creative decide to look into that. If anyone knows how to fix this or the location of the old drivers archi've please let me know.
    Thx in advanced.

Try this:?Go to "recording devices."?Select the device you are using. Click "properties" of the device you are using. Click "advanced" tab. If your set up is like mine, you will see a window with different recording modes, and a mono recording mode is selected by default. Select a two-channel mode and your problem should be solved.

  • Recording a Line Signal through Motu 828mk3 into Cubase, Please help!

    Hello everyone,
So i use Motu 828mk3, pair of m-audio monitors, I have logic but find Cubase more compatible for my style. I want to record a line in signal from my DJ mixer (allen&heath xone 62, pair of Pionner cdjs-1000).
So i connect the main outs (xlr to 1/8") into my Motu analog 1-2 ins. The meter on the Motu reads the signal, i expected the signal to come through my monitors although they are silent. I dont understand what blocks the Main Outs of my Motu.(If i play a song on itunes or a sample in cubase it plays through my monitors)
I set everything correct on my Motu Audio Setup, i put Default input as my Analog 1-2, and default main outs as Main Outs.
The Cue mixer which comes with Motu reads the in signal also. I tried to get it connected though cubase too, but im assuming that once i get motu release the signal through my outs i will be able to connect it through cubase.
Seems like i tried everything in my knowledge, now i need your help. Thank you folks

Yes i checked on My system preferences, everything is there for Motu, it reads the input and it send out sound from itunes youtube etc.
In cubase, well first i feel like the input should come out the Main outs of the Motu even if wouldnt want to record anything right ?
And yes in cubase everything seems to be set to record, drivers are motu on, setting are set, the handle (little speaker) is on to record, in preferences of Device setup motu it set active.

In fact I have Leadtek winfast TV usb II Deluxe card and sound should work through its own USB Audio drivers in Win XP, but have no luck, so I tried to connect it with its line out -> line in (like in Win 2000)....so I will try to find solution for USB audio....

  • Cannot record using Audio Line In

Using my Mac Book Air, I cannot record (in Garage Band) using Line In. When I go to System Preferences, Sound, Input... LINE IN is not an option. The only input source is an internal microphone.
Does Mac Book Air have a LINE IN option? If so, how do I switch to that?

    Hi,
according to the specs http://support.apple.com/kb/SP8 a MacBook Air does not have an Audio Line-In only the internal microphone.
Only chance you have is to get an USB-connected audio device like iMic from Griffin for example http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic

  • I cannot hear voice through my headset under bootcamp win7.

I cannot hear voice through my headset under bootcamp win7.
would anyone provide update for Mac Air Boot Camp4.0 with Win7 32 bit ?
    thanks

There are quite a few posts about the same sound issues so the best thing to do is to do a search here for something like "no sound in headphones in Windows" or something similar and try the one that fits your problem.
Basically you have to enable them in the sound Control Panel, re-install just the Boot Camp sound drivers manually or possibly down load the sound drivers for your hardware (your sound card) from the manufacturer directly.

  • Cannot Add new line using BI IP query

    Hi All,
We have created a planning application (BI IP Query) and used it in VC 7.1 model using BI Query Wizard service. Now we are able to customize existing rows ( existing rows are using flat file upload)... we can able to change the existing record values and save it.
But we are not able to add new line... its going to dump... We are able to add new line using WAD with same query but not in VC 7.1
This issue is same as below 2 threads...
Re: How to create new records through a VC form in an input-ready query??
Re: Cannot add new records through VC form when consuming IP write back query?
    Thanks,
    PradeeP

Its working now... SAP has given the fix (patch) for this issue when we deployed it, everything is working fine... I think they will release this fix (patch)soon...
