What do I need to change to get a stereo mix so I can record through my speakers?

Virtual Audio Cable works.
Also don't think speakers can be used as a microphone

i remember that when i first installed mac osx sl and windows xp bootcamp - the first couple of times around when partitioning the hd - the line-in worked a couple of times, in between times somewhere along the line i made some change to the spdif settings ?? or driver / to make the red light that comes on in the line-in jack go away - the other method was to use a toothpick to push a tiny button inside the jack, did that once -but the redlight came back again after a restart on bootcamp side.

Although I don't use it, the Line-Input jack should require a signal about 40dB higher than what a microphone alone puts out. If your cable only adapts the connector and does not provide amplification, I'm not surprised you get nothing. If you are lucky, you MIGHT get a low signal by going into System Prefs/Sound/input/line-in and turning the input level slider all the way up. But the real answer to to get a mike preamp or mixer, or a mike with line-level output. Some products take a mike input and convert it to digital into the USB port.

Recording sound through the speakers of a Satellite L750D

Hi,
I am trying to set up my Satellite L750D (psk36a-038008) so I can record using the sound that gets sent to the speakers and not just the input from the microphone. (whatever comes through the speakers could be recorded by whatever sound recording software I use). I was able to do this on a previous laptop (not Toshiba) but this one doesn't want to do it.
In the recording tab of the microphone, I have got the 'Show Disabled Devices' option ticked/checked but nothing else is showing apart from the conexant microphone.
The laptop is less than 1 month old, does it need new drivers already?

As far as I know Toshiba has build-in microphone and it is designed to be used with communications applications like Skype, MSN or something similar. As far as I know when mic is ON speakers are OFF.
It works on this way to avoid microphony effect.
To be honest it is not known to me that you can force notebook to work on this way and record sound that comes from speakers.

Cannot record using microphone - SB Audigy 2 ZS [E9

I have a microphone hooked up to the microphone plug in my soundcard. Although I can hear audio through the mic, when using windows recorder, I cannot record anything!
Also, when I plug the mic into the line-in, I can't hear anything through my speakers.
I can record?when I select "What U Hear," but nothing else. I've updated the drivers, but that didn't help.
Any input is appreciated!

I also wanted to add that I have selected the microphone option from the recording mixer and I have it set at a reasonable input level. I also have it unmuted from the playback mixer and have that level set at a reasonable level.

If you are referring to recording of "system" audio during a screen recording, then that is not a feature "natively" included in QT X and you would have to invest in a third-party app having this built-in option.
If you are referring to mic voice-overs or access to non-native software you have installed, then use the recorder triangle option to select an input option. While you can mic record system audio playing back through your system speakers, the audio is usually of poor quality if the volume is too low or prone to feedback if the volume is set too high.

Trying to record through soundboard in Sound Studio?

Hi all-
I have been trying to record an audio clip into Sound Studio 2.2.4. The default is for the MacBook Pro to play the clip through the speakers and for Sound Studio to record through the microphone, in which case I can get good levels but the recording is echo-ey and bad. When I switch to the only other source option, Built-in Input, I get no signal or levels in Sound Studio at all.
Am I doing something foolish? Does SS not have this capacity? Or do Macs not use the soundboard the way a PC does? Any help would be appreciated!

I have a very similar problem on my iMac. I've tried 3 sound programs and none of them can record internally, without having to resort to speakers out mic in. Each program has an option for internally recording but the problem appears to be my own sound preferences as they just list the mic, the line in and a blue tooth device called LAVINIA that I know nothing about!

No, you cannot seperate the audio and video stream.
You can use optical audio to a sound system (I use sony sound bar) and play the audio via that.

Why can't I record through my Tasam US-122?

I know that people have posted various questions regarding similar issues, but still ...
The Tascam US-122 L is connected via a powered hub to the iMac i7. I did a software and hardware update prior to connecting it to the computer. Garage Band recognizes it, and yet I cannot record anything through the mic. The Tascam US-122 L shows in "MIDI Studio", but when I double-click on it to see the set-up, port etc. all options are grayed out, no changes possible (is that normal?). It does not show as an audio device neither in the Audio MIDI Configuration window nor in System Preferences.
All of this works fine on my old G5 running 10.5.8
Any ideas?

Logic X won't record through my interface, in-built microphone constantly on

Installed Logic X on my Macbook Pro, everything seems to work ok but when I try and record Logic is picking up sound through the in-built microphone even though my external interface is selected in the audio preferences box as the input. I tried to see if Logic 9 was working ok and now the same thing is happening in Logic 9, and I've never ever had this problem before. I've tried re-installing the interface's drivers and making sure they're up to date and I've also tried making sure that the input and output for the laptop sound in general is set to the external device (which is an Edirol UA-25) but still every time I hit record it records through the in-built mic but the sound comes out of the Edirol. I really cannot figure out what the issue is, somebody please help, the worst part is that installing Logic X seems to have caused this issue with Logic 9 and now I can't use either.

How to Hear Metronome in Headphones While Recording Through Audio Interface - Help!

Hey everybody,
So I've been trying to work through this problem for 3+ hours now and I'm stumped. It's very frustrating as it is such a simple problem. Right now I'm recording acoustic guitar through an audio interface - guitar sound goes to microphone, microphone goes to interface, interface goes to audio jack in Macbook. Pretty simple setup. I can even insert a splitter into the audio jack on the Macbook which will allow me to hear what I am playing through the interface in my headphones, which is what I wanted. However, when I hit record and the metronome starts playing, as I want it to, I can't get the metronome to play through my headphones - they will only play through the speakers. How can I get around this? Is it even possible, or do I need an audio to USB interface so I can have a set audio in (through the USB) and a set audio out (through the audio port)? Again, your help would be much appreciated as I am completely stumped.

In Logic Pro 9 (and X) you can assign different devices to the In- and Output, so I don't understand why you wouldn't be able to get sound in through the microphone and out through the headphones. You can even combine the ouputs into a Multi-Output device to send the same sound simultaneously to all outputs.
You can also aggregate all your in- and outputs into an Aggregate Device, then you can use any of your outputs and any of your inputs inside the same Logic project (on the channel strips).
Setup in Audio MIDI Setup (separate app, part of any OS X install, can be found in the Applications>Utilities folder)
Setup in Logic Pro>Preferences>Audio>Devices (apart from colorscheme, it's the same in LP 9 and LP X)

Cannot record sound, all I hear is stat

Hello, I am trying to record what it being played through my speakers.
Before I purchased my creative audigy sound card I went into the playback control by clicking the icon in the system tray, then clicking options and properties, then recording, then setting my output device (speakers) as input device and that let me record the sound that was being played over my speakers.
I am trying to do that now with teh sound card but there is no suck option, I tried clicking "what you hear" and selecting that as the input device but when I do that and try to record all I hear is loud static.
So how am I supposed to record sound that is being played through my speakers?

Cannot record multiple mic's with mixer board

I have a Satellite P205D-S7802 - I recently bought a Behringer Xenyx mixer so I can podcast with mutiple mic's. I cannot get anything to record through the mixer. I have everything connected correct and even contacted the Behringer tech support just to be sure. Is there a way to get this to work? It is driving me crazy......Thanx

You may need to go to Control Panel under Sounds and change the default input from the internal to external mic.

DV6-3120us cannot record streaming audio

There is a program I like that streams it's audio on the Internet but is at an hour that is very inconvenient for me to listen to. They do not offer any downloadable file. In the past I have used Audacity to record the program and then listen the next day. I've done this with both Compaq and HP desktops and laptops as well as other manufacturers.
I have not been able to do it with my current HP laptop [DV6-3120us [AMD Turion II P-540 Dual Core 2.40GHz]] which has Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit with 4GB RAM.
I am currently using Audacity 2.0.0. I have followed the instructions at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq_i18n?s=recording&i=streaming and have also tried http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_recording_computer_playback_on_windows.html. In both cases I get nothing but a static hum but none of the audio I can hear playing through my speakers. I tried it while having my Bluetooth headset connected but it made no difference. I have tried recording other streaming audio in case the stream was being blocked from recording but could not record any of them. I also tried recording audio generated by the computer and could not. I have hooked up both a CD player and a tapedeck to the line-in and microphone jacks and was able to record the sounds.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On this same page is a download for the HP Support Assistant. The Support Assistant is a great tool to use if you think you may have issues with your computer. It will run threw a scan on your computer and come back with pin pointed diagnostics so I suggest that you download and install it as well.

Play through phone speakers when dock connected

Can I play through phone speakers when dock connected? I bought a new case to mount my phone to my bike's handlebars. To allow use of other attachments, the case has an internal dock connector. I want to play music through the speakers while riding (rather than headphones), however, due to the cases internal dock connector, it seems I cannot do this. Any suggestions?

I would try in oreder:
- Resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restoring the iPod via iTunes. First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

Problem here is you admit you cannot afford the service.
And you want to blame Verizon for losing a job because you have no cell phone.
If your job depends on that phone I would pay it on time every time if you need a job to pay your bill.
No other service is going to treat you any different. And if you cannot afford Verizon's monthly invoice how are you going to afford new devices, activation fees, possible security deposits on any other cellular carrier? You can't.
Also if you made an arraignment to pay and then decide you cannot do so, why should Verizon extend you service or credit, or why is it you want to use the service and data and not pay for it as agreed.
Get a prepay phone. Its evident the cost is too high for you to afford on post pay.
