Cannot Record

I'm using an M-Audio FireWire Solo with my MacBook Pro. I can hear the input from the Solo just fine on multiple channels, but GarageBand effects and recording do not work on the input. I've thrown away prefs and restarted. I've also shut down, disconnected the Solo and re-connected, then started up again and nothing seems to be working. I think I might have to re-install GB, but I've read in other posts that this can't be done?
Initially, this was working fine up until yesterday morning. Pretty random.
Any ideas?

Very funny. Yes, actually it was working. then I had an issue with the Solo driver I had to install, re-install, etc. to get it to be recognized by the MacBook Pro again. It wasn't long after that that I ran into the current problem.
I don't know if this would be a problem or not, but I'd just make sure you're uninstalling the entire driver. (offhand I don't know if M-Audio makes an uninstaller for this, but if they do, I'd use that or even give them a call just to make sure it's all gone. They'd also know if there are any compatibility issues with the current driver and your setup - I've found their tech help to be pretty good).
What I mean is that I can actually hear my monitored vocals/guitar over the Firewire device, but GarageBand won't record what I'm playing. Additionally, I can't hear any of the effects for vocals or guitar - only the pure input sound.
What Hangtime said makes sense. It sounds like you're monitoring through the device itself, rather than through an audio path that successfully journeys into and out of the computer.
I'll try uninstalling/installing the audio driver again.
(... and repair permissions).
I'm not sure if the solo driver includes a control panel - again that'd be an M-Audio thing - but sometimes drivers do and they can be helpful.
Also, I'd go into your utilities folder and open up the Audio MIDI setup utility. Under the Audio Devices tab of Audio MIDI Setup, your interface should show up if it's installed and seen by the system.
And if it shows up there, it should show up in GB preferences, where you can select it as your audio input, and then of course select it on a real audio instrument track.
Good luck!

I can record voice memos fine using the built-in iPhone 4 mic.  And my Bluetooth headset (Jawbone Era) works fine when I leave messages on voice mail systems etc. when calling on the iPhone 4, so it appears my headset mic is fine.  I can also use voice activated dialing, although it fails miserably interpreting numbers.  However, I cannot record voice memos with my Bluetooth mic.   I just get barely audible static.  Any suggestions?   Thanks.

Hello, did you ever get an answer to your question? I just picked up a Jawbone Era and using on an iPhone 4s running 5.0.1. Seems to work fine on regular calls, but not on the built in Voice memos application. It worked fine on my older Jawbone Icon, but haven't tested on the 4s or iOS 5.
    Thanks!

  • G/L account cannot record in the business transaction.

    Dear Experts,
When i am using cash journal (FBCJ), some G/L account cannot record in the business transaction. (error msg: you cannot enter tax code in business transaction).
I want to know how to edit the business transaction to disable the tax code requirement for those G/L account
    Regards,
    Wilson

    Hi
If you want to disable the tax code requirement for that particular GL a/c XXXXX.
    1) In FS00 Please chck if there is any tax category specified(under control data tab), please ensure that no tax code is specified.(this particular chk mark will make the gl account as tax relevant)
    2) if no tax code specified in fs00, you need not specify anything in the transaction code FBCJC2 (For that business transaction) in the field tax code.
    3) So at the time of posting transaction in FBCJ it will not give any error.

  • Cannot record through line-in in bootcamp MBP late summer '09 model

cannot record through line-in in bootcamp MBP late summer '09 model
audio source (mp3 player) <3.5mm male input-------------3.5mm male input>  line-in to macbook pro late summer 2009 model bootcamp windows xp sp2
when i select microphone in the audio panel - it works
when i select line-in and plug in the 3.5mm jack input to 3.5mm jack input to a fm radio for ex. it doesn't work
how do i make the line-in work?
i remember that when i first installed mac osx sl and windows xp bootcamp - the first couple of times around when partitioning the hd - the line-in worked a couple of times, in between times somewhere along the line i made some change to the spdif settings ?? or driver / to make the red light that comes on in the line-in jack go away -  the other method was to use a toothpick to push a tiny button inside the jack, did that once -but the redlight came back again after a restart on bootcamp side.
    thanks in advance,
    -r

Although I don't use it, the Line-Input jack should require a signal about 40dB higher than what a microphone alone puts out. If your cable only adapts the connector and does not provide amplification, I'm not surprised you get nothing. If you are lucky, you MIGHT get a low signal by going into System Prefs/Sound/input/line-in and turning the input level slider all the way up. But the real answer to to get a mike preamp or mixer, or a mike with line-level output. Some products take a mike input and convert it to digital into the USB port.

  • After upgrading to IOS8.1 my microphone stopped working. cannot make a call, cannot record a voice memo, but Siri works !!!

after upgrading to IOS8.1 my microphone stopped working. cannot make a call, cannot record a voice memo, but Siri works !!! Surely this must be software since I presume there are not two microphones, one for Siri and one for everything else. Tried resetting, rebooting, switching off noise cancelling. What else is there?

  • Canon HF G10 Camcorder - "Cannot Record" error message when trying to make new recordings

    Hi All,
I purchased Canon HF G10 camcorder 6 months ago and suddenly I am getting a "Cannot Record" error message each time I press the record button - it simply stopped working and I am puzzled about this - has anyone else faced this problem? if yes, were you able to resolve it? Any insights or torubleshooting guidance will be greatly appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Rajiv Arora.

    ra33,
I am very glad to help you with this.
According to the specifications in the user manual, this model records to the internal memory by default in any shooting mode.  You can manually select to record to the SD cards, but only in the Manual or Cinema modes.  If you are shooting in Auto, clearing out some of the internal memory should stop the "Cannot Record" message from appearing.
If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

  • Player Error: "You cannot record without enabling at least one track for recording"

So I'm trying to adjust my audio using the track mixer in premiere pro cc. I assigned 2 clips to a submix. When I tried to record, I got the following error: "You cannot record without enabling at least one track for recording." I disabled other tracks, then re enabled them all, muted them all, but still got the same error when I tried to record.

This is how I have just made a recording:
Select track to record (1), Select record (2) then press play to record.
Use the in-out markers in the program monitor to select the area to record.

I finally stumbled across a fix for this problem, and in case someone else is frustrated at some point by a similar issue I'm posting what finally worked to enable me to bring iTunes up at any time (without rebooting first).
The solution was to go to the preferences to uncheck "search for shared libraries".
I'm glad the problem is fixed, but Apple developers really should include a timeout function on iTunes search for a shared libraries. At least a visual dialog to confirm that the application is in the process of searching for a shared library on the network would help provide clues as to what is causing the spinning beach ball to appear right about the time the application window should pop up.

  • Cannot Record Audio using Logic Express 7.0.0 on 13" Macbook

Help! I have Logic Express 7.0.0 and am running it in on an Intel model Macbook 1.8Ghz, 13''. I do not have an external soundcard. Will this version of Logic Express allow me to record live audio if I do not have an external soundcard? I only want to be able to record & edit a single audio track, so thought I might be able to. I cannot seem to get the 'R' (Record) button to appear despite activating it in the >View< section, so I cannot arm any tracks, and so cannot record. Is there a bug with this version of Logic and the Intel Macs? Do I need to update? If so, what would be the best way to update?
    Regards,
    Lee

I updated to Logic Express 7.0.1 successfully but the problem wasn't solved. Now if I try to update to Logic Express 7.2.0 it says that it cannot find the correct version of Logic Express. Im not sure how updating works - Can Logic Express 7.0.1 be updated to Logic Express 7.2.0?

  • Cannot record with M-Audio "Mobile Pre"?

Just updated to GB 10.0.3 and OS 10.10.1  Now I cannot record tracks using M-Audio "Mobile Pre" USB pre amp interface as I used to. The Pre works fine with Audacity as in the past. Is there a fix for this in Garage Band by any chance? Thanks for any advice.

  • Cannot record using Audio Line In

Using my Mac Book Air, I cannot record (in Garage Band) using Line In. When I go to System Preferences, Sound, Input... LINE IN is not an option. The only input source is an internal microphone.
Does Mac Book Air have a LINE IN option? If so, how do I switch to that?

    Hi,
according to the specs http://support.apple.com/kb/SP8 a MacBook Air does not have an Audio Line-In only the internal microphone.
Only chance you have is to get an USB-connected audio device like iMic from Griffin for example http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic
