Cannot Reestablish wireless connection to Airport Express

I recently changed CPU's(PC) and tried reconnecting my AEX thru my Linksys WRT54G wireless router.
I cannot get it to work.
I have reset the AEX and go thru both the Admin utility & Airport Express assistant and can get as far as reconfiguring to connect thru my wireless network. But everytime I set the WEP # it never connects.
I have read the other strings and tried;
1.Configuring using an ethernet(hard) connection.
2.In Express Assistant I can get as far as it identifying a wireless network where "name is not available" but the next steps all indicate "Cannot Read from Base Station. Bad Param Error(-4).
I'm confused.
Any suggestions?

Duane,
I think you are a genius. That fixed it.
I had updated the firmware on the AEX but did not update the admin utilities(make sure you have v. 4.2 installer software for all having the same issues). The newer version firmware and older version software utilities created the conflict.
As I plodded forward I also discovered my Linksys WRT54G router was also blocking the IP address of the AEX. I reset my router, re-established new security settings and all is good in my Airtunes world now.
Thank You Duane!!

It sounds like an interference issue.

  • How make wireless connection with airport express to  Yamaha Clavinova CVP-403 ?

I would like to wirelessly connect my Yamaha Clavinova CVP-403. I would like to use a D-link DWA 125 and my airport express. Does anyone has any experience on how to do that?

Hi Henry - you seem to be a very helpful and knowledgeable person and I am wanting to dive in to the depths of wireless working at home and could probably do with your advice. I certainly don’t have as much knowledge as Jaybee and if he’s had problems I am feeling a little apprehensive.
I know that the first thing I need to do is get an ethernet modem to use with Airport Express as I currently only have a USB modem. I was wondering if you have any recommendations or if I should go straight for the Netgear DSL modem/router (DG834B) that Jaybee ended up with. Although the bit about ‘disabling the Airport Express resp. Extreme routers’ scares me rigid
I have looked at ‘About this Mac’ and got the following for you – hope it’s helpful.
    OSX 10.3.9
    1.33 HGz PowerPC G4 processor
    Airport Extreme: Worldwide
    Firmware: 400.17(3.90.34.0.p11)
    Airport admin utility: 4.2 (v420.31)
My ISP is also Tiscali (UK) - they have said they can only provide modem support on the USB modem they provide so once I switch to an ethernet modem I’ll be on my own. I have checked the Tiscali website and found the following modems, so I would assume (probably unwisely) that they would be compatible with my account...
    Zoom X6 5590 DSL Modem (55907200)
    D-Link DSL-300T
Zoom Hayes ADSL Ethernet (H0-15805) (081580572)
Any help is very gratefully received.

  • Cannot configure and connect to Airport Express Base Station Model A1264 with Windows 7 (x64)

I am not able to connect Airport Express Base Station Model A1264 with Windows 7 (x64).  I did a factory reset, uninstalled and reinstalled the AirPort Utility for Windows v. 5.6.1.
My objective is to extend a non-Apple WiFi network with Airport Express Base Station Model A1264 and use it for direct ethernet and/ or wireless connection.  Any guidance as to how I can get set up here?

This is very common, we run a mix of mac and various pc brand desktops and laptops, what I have found is that using the windows wireless client rather than manufacturers on some laptops helps, getting the latest wireless drivers from the manufacturer has helped, make sure all your windows updates XP and Vista are current.
If all the above is covered try the different WEP WPA WPA2 variants or even without for test purposes. I have most success with WPA2.
Finally I am assuming your running the latest firmware on the express unit, whilst this hasn't attributed to better connectivity for us I did it regardless.

  • Xbox 360 wireless adapter wont connect to Airport Express/cant find ip

i have a time warner modem with the ethernet cable plugged into my airport express to create a wireless network in my house. my macbook and dell connect with no prob.
the xb recognizes the airport express, shows it as connected with green bars, but when i try to log into xbox online, it says that there is no connection.
i can plug in the ethernet cable from the xb to the airport ex and there is no problem. only when trying to use the wireless adapter.
how can i stop this? also, how can i find my IP address?
since the xb wouldnt connect and find my ip automatically, i tried to do it manually. when i go to terminal on my macbook and enter "ipconfig e0", i dont see an IP address.
i have seen a lot of info on this but it mainly deals with airport extreme or those who are trying to connect to airport express with an ethernet cable.
so if you can help me troubleshoot the wireless connection between my xb and my airport ex OR explain how i can find my IP address, i would be very grateful.
FYI---the airport express was purchased in april, so i believe it is the new "n" model.
    thanks for all your help.

Gary Sanborn, please share your tricks. I'm curious to know how you got it to work. I used to have the old Express and that worked just fine. The new version (n) doesn't seem to connect to xbox live. As previously stated, mine also shows "connected" and a strong green bar signal on the xbox but the text can't get passed "connected to live"... if I'm not mistaken.
I heard about holding down the option button white selected the type of wireless connection and connecting to wireless b only. I would want to avoid this option. I don't want my express to run that slow. Please advice. Thanks in advance.
By the way, I haven't tried it since recently upgrading to OS X 10.5.3. I wasn't sure if that affected airport's connectivity with xbox 360.

  • 10.5.8 MBP cannot find or reliably connect to AirPort Express on channel 13

    Problems with channel id 13:
    ============================
I believe this is another (NEW!) issue unrelated to the already described WLAN-battery-performance-drop-down. Furthermore the following may not only apply to 10.5.8 but to 10.5.7, too:
Since there are many (~20) WLAN networks in my neighborhood, I decided to switch to channel 13 (in the AirPort Utility for my Airport Express b/g) in order to minimize interference. This used to work fine.
But since 10.5.8 my intel MacBookPro 15" (Early 2006) does not find my WLAN anymore. It is not listed in the available WLAN-list. When switching Airport off on my MBP and on again, it sometimes finds my WLAN but the connection drops within a minute and I am completely disconnected - too short to get AirPort Utility to connect the Airport Express station (but it can find the Airport Express station for a second or so).
However, the iPhone3G and the ubuntu-linux still work great with the very same WLAN.
I tried another WLAN-router (d-link) and this plays well with my 10.5.8 MacBookPro.
Interestingly, when I tell the d-link WLAN to use channel 13, my Mac shows the same symptoms as with my AirPort Express b/g on channel 13.
I have not tested with which other channels this occurs.
The "hack" to restore the 10.5.7 IO80211Family.kext did not work. I reinstalled the 10.5.8 combo-update, but that does not help, either.
Note1: In Germany, WIFI channels 1 to 13 are allowed. Maybe, in the USA this is different and Apple did not tested the 10.5.8 Airport with the channels possibly not available in the states?
Note2: My MacBookPro is too old to apply the 10.5.8 Airport-slow-on-battery thingy patch, posted here in the forums.
Note3: Since 10.5.7 (or maybe a version below?) OS X (after sleeping or restarting) tells me that my preferred network has not been found. Then I disable and enable the airport and select my network once it appears. In the first place I thought this was due to the huge amount of WLANs... but now I am not sure any longer...
Perhaps others have observed a similar behavior?
Note4: I will post my specs (version of MBP and airport) later, since I am at work right now.
Note5: I will try to reset my Airport station to factory defaults and choose another channel.

    HI Samuel,

    Airport Troubleshooting Guide
    Carolyn
Hey Carolyn thank's for your reply!
The Airport Troubleshooting Guide is great. Unfortunately did not help in my case.
(I tried a lot of other things, too. Installing the combo update 10.5.8, resetting PRAM, deleting keychain entries, removing Aiport adapter in the list of network adaptors, removing known networks and so one. Nothing did a change!)
What did help indeed was to plug in the Mac by ethernet cable and configure the Airport Express base station to a different channel. Then it works like charm (again), as you suggested, too.
I tested with another (d-link) wlan (b/g) station and confirmed my first suspicion that it has something to do with the channel and not with the base station or some configuration.
Both, channel 12 and 13 are NOT working, but all others do fine!
This is a bug (introduced in 10.5.8 or maybe 10.5.7, I am not sure?). I repeat, this is a bug and unrelated to the wifi battery issues described by others. I guess I will file a feedback report.
As a work-around, switch to another channel. I am not sure what happens to people who have channel left to "automatic" and the base station changes to 12 or 13 by itself. (Is this technically possible?) I think they will get problems. Definetely.
    For completeness, my specs:

Can't connect (wireless) to my Airport Express anymore with iBook, iPad or iPhone. It still recognizes the printer on the iBook (bonjour), but not on my Windows notebook (work). The only device that still connects via wireless is the PlayStation 3.

The latest firmupdate solved the issue.

The ZyXEL P-2601HN-F1, as you know, is a combination DSL modem & 802.11n wireless router (or gateway device).
For your goal you will want to take a look at this Apple Support article for details on how to configure an AX for iTunes.
If you are still having difficulties with the AX joining the ZyXEL's wireless network, you can try the following:
    Temporarily disable wireless encryption.
If you are hidding the SSID, disable that feature.
Change the Mode Select setting to: 802.11g Only
Change the Channel Selection from "Auto" to a set channel, like 1, 6, or 11

  • HT1515 do you need to connect the airport express to a router via ethernet or can it do it using wireless?

do you need to connect the airport express to a router via ethernet or can it do it using wireless?

There are 3 Apple routers....AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule. Details here:
    http://www.apple.com/compare-wifi-models/
Do you have one of these products in the living room?
If no, you can only use the AirPort Express by connecting to the router in the living room using an Ethernet cable at all times.

  • Why would you need to connect an AirPort Express to a printer to print wirelessly when you could just use AirPrint?

What is the point of connecting an AirPort Express to a printer when you could just use AirPrint from an iPhone?

All you guys are mistaking the Airprint system. Wireless printing is a Misnomer. Nothing prints wirelessly. Both the printer and the computer, or i or android device have to be all connected to the same LAN. They can be connected by a wire or a WiFi signal but they all must be on the same LAN.
Airprint is a Driverless printing system where No Specific Printer drivers have to be installed on the computer or other device. Even with the Airprint system both the printer and the device you are printing from have to be on the same LAN.

  • HT1126 Can I connect the Airport Express directly to my wireless router?

The old owner of my house set the Air port for my use, gave me a password ... when I tried it, the password never worked.
DO not want to lose my old wireless system as it allows me to do more than just the Air Port.
    should I reset the system?

can i connect the airport express into an ethernet port in the wall
I assume you are asking about obtaining an Internet connection here.
First, temporarily turn off the wireless on a laptop and connect the laptop to the Ethernet wall jack with an Ethernet cable. Can you log on to the Internet this way?
If yes, then you can connect an AirPort Express to this Ethernet port and configure it to provide a wireless signal for multiple devices.
If no, then you can connect the Express, but you will not have an Internet connection.

  • Recently moved and installed ATT DLS - I use their wireless router and connectted my airport express - Now I'm getting the Blue ? on some images

Recently moved and installed ATT DLS - I use their wireless router and connectted my airport express - Now I'm getting the Blue ? on some images - and at times - videos don't load.  I've increased / deleted Cache.  Suggestions? Misconfig?  Could it be possible my configuration from MacBook to router isn't correct?
    Thanks!

    JG,
    Thanks for the info.
Couple of questions. I found an apple support document on this topic that opened with this line:
"AirPort Express and all AirPort Extreme base stations can use WDS. Earlier AirPort base stations can't."
If the TC is an airport extreme base station, why can't this work to extend the network? I think I misunderstand. Here is the full article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2044?viewlocale=en_US
If I buy a new airport extreme, set it to wireless-n only as my main router, am I correct that my existing time capsule could be used as a bridge if plugged in upstairs?
Final question (and that should do it), could I take this old airport express, plug it in upstairs using the ethernet connection, and just create a separate wireless network to use with a different name?
I'd like to keep one network if possible but just kicking around short term solutions.
    Thanks again.

How can I print from my IPAD3 to a printer connected to Airport Express? I have a HP printer and I can print from all my Windows PC and iMAC in the house. How can I print from my IPaD?

    You cannot.
The USB port on the AirPort Express allow sharing a printer with Windows and Mac OS X, not with iOS:
"Wireless printing over USB requires a compatible printer and OS X v10.2.7 or later, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7":
    http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/#wireless-printing
"AirPrint-enabled printers  connected using Bluetooth or shared through a USB port of a Mac, PC, AirPort Base Station, or Time Capsule are not supported":
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
The HP ePrint app also does not provide such functionality:
Can I print from the HP ePrint mobile app using USB or Bluetooth?
No. You can only print directly to supported HP printers on a local wireless network.

  • Belkin wireless modem and Airport Express lan problems

Let me preface my problem by stating the obvious - I'm not very technically proficient!
That said, I've had an AirPort Express wireless lan connecting three computers on my home/office network for the past 8 months without any problems at all. All machines on the network have been able to access the internet via a Thomson SpeedTouch 530 ADSL1 modem that connects via an ethernet cable to the AirPort Express. No problems.
The network consists of my G5 iMac (ALS), my husband's Mac mini and my Sony VAIO laptop (XP Pro SP2).
I should also mention that half-way between my office and my husband's office there is a second AirPort Express that 'boosts' the signal to his office.
I recently changed ISPs to a provider that offers the faster ADSL2+ service. This meant that I had to get a new Belkin ADSL2+ modem. This is my problem. I cannot connect my AirPort Express network to the internet using the Belkin modem. The Belkin modem connects without any problem if I just have it connected via ethernet to my iMac but that's not what I want to do.
My existing AirPort details are -
    IPv4 Address: 10.0.1.3
Router 10.0.1.1 (this is the SpeedTouch 530 modem)
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
I thought I could change the new modem's address(?terminology?) from 10.1.1.1 (which is how it came) to 10.0.1.3 and that everything would work but it doesn't.
Belkin tech support said 'the problem is with your AirPort Express' (what else would they say)?
Do I have to keep the 10.1.1.1 and change my AirPort addresses? Or should I try to set up a new network?
