Cannot register external hard drive

I just tried to register an external hard drive, serial number 73BDWC84TSX3, via this site: support.toshiba.com/register and received a general error message: "This product cannot be registered." I have tried using both Google and Firefox; should I try a different browser? Thank you!
This product cannot be registered.

External hard drives don't need to and can't be registered. If you need to make a warranty claim in the future, you'll need  copy of your receipt.

  • Time Machine cannot find external hard drive

I have just recently purchased an airport extreme and have enjoyed being able to plug in an external hard drive for time machine. I think I must have reset my laptop while it was backing up because now I get an error every time it tries to back up. The error I get is disc image cannot be accessed (error 2) I have tried everything I can think (reseting router, unplugging and plugging back in the hard drive, changing networks, and then back) but still nothing. I am not even able to enter the time machine to back up to a time before I had this problem. I can however access the contents of the drive just not successfully complete a time machine back up. Thanks for the help

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
Start by Repairing the sparse bundle that contains your backups, via #A5 of the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip,* also at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum.
If that doesn't help, try a "full reset" per #A4 there.
You do need to know that backing-up this way is "iffy" and +*not supported+* by Apple. See the Using Time Machine with a USB drive connected to an Airport Extreme *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.

  • Cannot Identify External Hard Drive

    hi,
my imac has an usb 2.0 linked external hard drive. i used the diskutility to format the hdd and stored files on it.
but sometimes when i boot into mac, a pop-up message says that the "hardware cannot be identified"
so i have to unplug the hard drive and reboot, then in mac, plug the external hard drive.
    so what went wrong?
    thanks.

So a hint as to which external hard drive you have please. Have you contacted the manufacturer? Have you checked the usb cable? Have you checked the power source for the hard drive? Why are you posting a hardware problem in the "Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard > Using Mac OS X Leopard"
    discussion forum area?

  • IMac Finder cannot see external hard drive but Disk Utility can

I have a WD external hard drive and it has been attached to my iMac for a year or two.  About two months ago I upgraded to Lion 10.7.5 and hard drive still worked.  Then suddenly about a week ago the iMac no longer sees the external hard drive in Finder.
I have connected the hard drive to the iMac with different USB cables and into different ports and it makes no difference so deduce there is no issues with the cables or the ports.  I have connected the hard drive to an old Macbook and it can see the harddrive and read some of the info but I really need the hard drive attached to the iMac as I store all my music and photos on the external hard drive.
I read another thread and someone asked if you can see the hard drive in Disk Utility.  I tried this and Disk Utility can see the hard drive.
What does this mean?  Any suggestions as to how to get the iMac to see the hard drive so I can access the data on it?
I dont really know how Disk Utility works therefore if that is any help to me.
    thanks

    Open the Finder.
From the Finder menu bar click Finder > Preferences then select the General tab.
Make sure: External disks is selected.

  • PS3 cannot recognize external hard drive connected to Time Machine

I am trying to keep my Elements 2TB external hard drive connected to my Time Machine (via USB), and also use it as an external media source for my PS3.  When connecting the drive directly to the PS3  through the USB it recognizes it perfectly as an external media drive, but when I try to do it wirelessly through the Time Machine it does not find it.  I have the drive partitioned and the folders labeled correctly, the PS3 is connecting to the internet through the Time Machine.  I can connect to the external through my Macbook and see all the PS3 files when connected to the Time machine.
I am stumped.  I recently installed a larger (350gb) drive on my PS3 using the external drive for backup, and everything seemed to work fine, but I swear that before the installation my old drive recognized the external on the Time Machine (I may be imagining this).  Could the reformatting of the PS3 drive have something to do with it?  Maybe it is not possible in the first place?
Any ideas?  Sorry in advance, I know this probably more of a PS3 forum question, but PSN seems to be down today.

The drive will not "appear" on your desktop like a USB or FireWire drive that is connected directly to your Mac.
First, check to make sure that the drive is recognized by the Time Capsule as LaPastenague mentions
Open AirPort Utility , click on the Time Capsule, then click Edit
Click the Disks tab at the top of the next window
You will see your Time Capsule drive....named "Data".....unless you have changed the name.....and the other drive as well.  In the example below, the Time Capsule drive is named "Backups".  Another drive....."WD Drive"....is connected to the USB port on the Time Capsule.
Do you see both drives? If not, you need to perform the checks that LaPastenagure has mentioned above.

  • Cannot recognize external hard drive

I have just gought a 1TB Iomega external hard drive to use as my time machine as well as as extra storage space. The disc was formatted for windows but instead of reading the instructions on how to reformat the disc properly for the Mac OS extended and journalled, I thought I knew what I was doing and within Disk Utility, I chose the drive , selected Mac OS extended in a drop box and clicked on erase. Oooops. An error box came up a few seconds later. Now when I turn the drive on again, a box comes up that syas "the disc you have inserted is not recognised by your computer" and I just can't access it anymore at all.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about and can anyone help me restore the disc or am I going to have to return it?
    Thank you.

    Philippe,
You can rename it in the Finder. Simply click once on the drive to highlight it, then press <RETURN>. This will highlight the name for editing. Change it to whatever you like. Also, when you partition or erase in Disk Utility, you can first edit the "name" field before clicking "Erase" or "Apply."
And yes, it makes a lot of sense to partition a drive you will be using for Time Machine, particularly if it is a large drive. If you do, use the first partition for Time machine (the one at the top of the graphical representation of volumes in the "Partition" pane). You can repartition the entire drive to add a partition (erasing all volumes in the process), or you can dynamically resize the one existing partition and add a new one using the "+" at the bottom of the list. If there is no data on the existing partition, it doesn't matter how you do it. If there is, however, you can create a second partition without erasing the first.
The reason for using the first partition for Time Machine is that, by doing so, you can later remove the second partition to enlarge the first. This destroys all data on the second, but preserves what is on the first.

  • Cannot see external hard drive in finder even though listed in Disk utility

I have a major problem with my G5 after file vault became corrupted and I had to erase the user account with all my data after consultation with an Apple Store Genius.
I have an external Iomega external back up but the finder does not list it anymore and it does not appear on the desktop. It is seen by disk utility however and I have run disk repair which says its fine. When it is not mounted, the icon next to the hard drive name (in disk utility) is a firewire external drive, but when I do mount it it appears as the unrecognized file type icon (the icon with the piece of paper with a bent corner). It also doesn't show up when I enable hidden folders.
It does however mount on my son's iMac. All my data is on this external disk and its my only copy left.
Please can you help me or point me toward a previous thread. I have tried ejecting it and remounting the HD after turning it off but no luck.

  • Cannot access external hard drive on Airport Extreme (802.11n) network.

It took me many hours to even get my Lacie 320GB hard drive on the network. I went back and forth between plugging it directly into the usb port on my PowerBook and plugging it directly into the extreme or the usb hug plugged into the extreme. It would consistently tell me that I was denied access, or I was using the wrong password when I know I was not. Eventually I found a forum that suggested creating a "shared" folder on the drive. Eventually I think I had to do a get info and give myself and others permissions to EVERYTHING on the drive and the subfolders. Then I finally got access. But then the "connection was interrupted" and I lost access completely again. I am wondering if this is a "mounting" issue. I may not be clear on what I am supposed to do to mount the exernal. I have upgraded to Leopard and have not been able to access the drive through the extreme since.

What is the drive formatted in? I had problems with mine when it was formatted in FAT32.

  • Cannot see external hard drive except in disk utility

when i open it in disk utility, all the buttons are grey, and i cannot verify or repair the disk. This happened once i updated it to mavericks.

    Hi Dominic,
If this is still not mounting, it may be worth trying a PRAM reset...

  • IPhoto cannot see external storage drive

Very unusual freeze-up while "repairing" iPhoto required a forced shut down.  Now cannot see external hard drive with photos on it.  Can you help please.

Have no idea the format of the external disk.  It plugs into the back of my big monitor and has worked perfectly until I upgraded to Yosemite and iPhoto 9.8 in late December.  I had difficulty setting up iPhoto at that time, and you fine folks walked me though the process in mid January.  All photos were there and in the proper albums.  External disk is a Seagate Free Agent GoFlex, and it is backed up on Mozy and also on an iPad Air 2.
Problem started when I simply plugged in my iPhone and iPhoto told me I had to repair my database, which I did -- it took some time.  Then I had to do something with Permissions.  That never ended and a Word document froze on screen while I was working on it, and when I couldn't close any tabs in Safari -- couldn't do anything, actually -- iPhoto was continuing to spin with Permissions.  Finally after about 15 minutes of that, I did a hard "push the start button" shutdown.  The restart took a very long time.
Since I installed Yosemite and got iPhoto working -- when it was working -- the entire computer has been a bit sluggish and slow.   And for the first time ever --and I've used Macs since the 1980s -- I had a freeze yesterday.  Likely unrelated, but just a data point.
(BTW, is there any way I can find the discussion I had w/you folks back when I setup this iPhoto in mid-January?  Anyway to search and find it in Support?)

  • IPod cannot be synced because external hard drive could not be read

I moved my music folder to an external hard drive to create space on my laptop, and changed the location under Preferences / Advanced. Since I did this, my iPod trys to automatically sync but gives the error message "The iPoD "[name]" cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to." The external hard drive is on and working. Is there some reason that the iPod will not sync with this external hard drive? What do I need to do to fix it? Thanks, Bill

    First question, since you made
the change, can you still play your music from within
    iTunes?
    Patrick
Sorry for the delay in answering as I have been traveling. Yes, I can play music from iTunes. The music is located on my external hard drive. iTunes software is on my laptop, and the music library points to the music folder on my external hard drive.
    Thanks, Bill

  • I moved itunes file to external hard drive and want to move the file on my pc to recycle bin. When I move i get an error message that it cannot delete ituneshelper.dll access is denied. Can I move that file to the recycle bin?

I am trying to free up space on my pc and moving itunes files to external hard drive. I have followed instructions and believe I have file copied to new drive, but I am having trouble moving file to recycle bin as the instructions say. I am getting the following error message: cannot delete ituneshelper.dll:access denied, make sure disk is not full or write protected and file not in use. I know the file is not in use when trying to move. Any help would be most appreciated. I am on Windows XP.

Yes. And you should not have moved that folder. Put it back. To move your iTunes library move the folder from User's Music.
