Cannot register macbook pro

I am trying to register a computer using the supportprofile website, but all I get after entering my serial number is an error that says "i cannot register using supportprofile at this time." Is this temporary?
I am trying to register a product that I bought in 2010, so that I can report it stolen. I recieved a confirmation email, but it does not give my serial number, or any other infomation.

Too late!  You are suppose to register Mac products as soon as you get it because Apple's standard warranty lasts one year from the purchase date.   Apple Care last an extra 2 years.

  • Bluetooth: Cannot pair MacBook Pro 15" (early 2009) and Nokia cell phones

When I try to pair my Nokia cell phone (E65) with my new MacBook Pro 15", the bluetooth assistant hangs after the input of the pairing code. I tried another Nokia cell phone in addition (N70), but had the same issue.
When I initiate the pairing by the phone, then the pairing process seems to be successful, but I still cannot use the bluetooth connection with the phone afterwards (e.g. browsing files on it, 3G internet connection). The connection becomes established for a few seconds, but then the phone is being disconnected.
I never had these problems using my old black MacBook. It still works when I try today. So it must be an issue of the new MBP.
I successfully paired the New MBP with my old MB via Bluetooth - could transfer files for example without any problems. Therefore I think that the Bluetooth hardware (Broadcom) seems to work properly.
The MacBook Pro 15" has the Broadcom chipset, while the old black MacBook has the Cambridge Silicon Radio chipset. Maybe there's an incompatibility between Broadcom and Nokia (?)
    Any ideas? Thanks!

I also have an early 2009 15" MBP and am experiencing bluetooth pairing problems. When I first started this computer, I successfully paired my Sonyericsson HBH-DS980 headphones. While using this connection, I accidently lost the connection by moving out of range. After this, the headphones would not re-connect. I deleted the headphones from the MBP bluetooth configuration and tried unsuccessfully to discover and re-pair. I also have another pair of SE HBH-DS220s. They initially paired and worked properly with my MBP and again after loss of connection, would not re-connect or re-pair. I do not have this problem with my first generation MBP so I know it must be something with the bluetooth system in my new MBP. I don't know anything about Mac operating systems, but I bet there is some log file somewhere that is logging a bluetooth problem and thereby locking out that type of device. I would really appreciate a MAC guru's help.
    Thanks

  • IMAC cannot see Macbook Pro on network

My iMAC cannot see my Macbook Pro on the wifi network. The macbook pro can see the iMAC and connects etc but not the other way around. My iMAC can see another Macbook ok.
It did connect when I first connected the Macbook pro but since then I cannot find anywhere how to get the iMAC to see the other machine. I need to be able to sync some files.
Is there a setting I have missed on one or both machines.
    Cheers
    Ian

    HI Ian,
Open System Preferences (Apple Menu) / Sharing
Make sure "File Sharing" is selected on both Macs.

  • Register MacBook Pro

    Afternoon,
I have just purchased a MacBook Pro from one of my friends who has gone travelling around the world this week. Luckily for him he won the MacBook through a competition at work which is causing me an issue with the warranty.
The issue I have is that when I try and register it the Apple website says that it isn't possible with the serial number. I'm guessing that it was manufactured 3-4 months ago which may be causing the issue, but being as when I purchased it I got it was still in the original sealed wrapping I don't want to take the hit of 4+ months warranty being lost.
The issue is, as he won it he didn't get a proof of purchase (which Apples site require) and because I have purchased it from him I also haven't got the proof of purchase. I have tried ringing where he used to work but due to data protection they won't speak to me about it!
Does anybody have any ideas ?
    Cheers

I would contact an Apple store and discuss the problem with them.

  • Registering MacBook Pro

Daft really, but when registering new MBP I choose Portables > MBP > but of the three options (13,15,17") none are clickable, there's no way to highlight the one I want to register, so can't go forward. Any ideas Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you used your Apple ID during Setup Assistant, your MacBook Pro is already registered to your Apple ID. Additionally, you can register your MacBook Pro in http://supportprofile.apple.com, logging in with your Apple ID, pressing "Add Product" and typing the MacBook Pro's serial number.
You can also enable Find my Mac to track your Mac in case it's stolen. Open System Preferences > iCloud, and enable Find my Mac. You will be able to track it through an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with the Find my iPhone app, or through http://www.icloud.com

  • Un register Macbook Pro

I am buying a new Macbook pro and giving my old 15" to my granddaughter. How do I unregister the unit from my ID to let her become the registered user? I am not worried about the software as I will move that over myself.

This is a little tricky so what I'd recommend is to:
    Deauthorize your iTunes account.
Backup using Time Machine, Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner. You will need an external HD to do this. Assuming you have been using TM this should be quite simple.
Then reformat and reinstall OSX using the Install Disks that came with the machine or your Leopard Upgrade Disk.
After you have re-installed the OS then using Startup Assistant migrate the applications from the backup you created. If you want to migrate your your data too you can do that as well. Remember though when you restore apps or data it's an all or nothing proposition.
This is the safest and in the long run quickest way.

  • Cannot connect macbook pro to TV via mini DVI/HDMI adapter

I am trying to connect my Macbook Pro (mid 2009) to a TV using a miniDVI to HDMI connection. This used to work fine without any issues. It stopped working after I upgraded my OS to snow leopard. In addition, when I go to the display settings, it will not detect the display. BUT when I connect the wires, the computer goes to a blank screen like it is trying to mirror.....help!

    Hello clamb1993,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
You can use the following article to troubleshoot your HDMI out connection:

  • I have a imac and a pc laptop set up with my wireless lexmark x7675 printer through my bthome hub network, but cannot get macbook pro to work

i have a lexmark wireless printer, its connected to my imac via wireless bthome hub connection, works fine, so does my pc laptop.  but when it comes to connect my macbook pro aswell it wont work.  i have installed lexmark drivers on macbook, i have follwed the wireless connection setup and plugged in via usb port. it says it has connected successfully, but it will not print.  i had it connected at one point, but would only print if the imac was on, but now it wont even do that.
please help, it seems like instead of connecting through bthome hub it wants to connect to my imac, how do i change this?

Well there would probably be different settings for the wireless.
For example, with a Lexmark printer although I needed to do nothing to get it to work via USB, to get the wifi working I had to use a special setup option for getting the wifi to work on my pc.
You can probably download the manual for your printer from the manufacturers website, and it should tell you how to get it to work with your printer.

  • HT201343 Cannot Mirror MacBook Pro to Apple TV

I own a MacBook Pro Mid 2012 and a 3rd Generation Apple TV and both have the latest software updates. I can no longer see the AirPlay icon on my computer and I can no longer select that in the display options of settings. Any help on this one??

    Hello there, tpeeler88.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some basic steps for troubleshooting your issue:
About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
    Particularly of note:
Mac and Apple TV are on the same network, but no AirPlay Mirroring menu appears
Your Apple TV may be asleep. Simply press a button on your Apple TV remote to wake it up. After a few seconds, the AirPlay Mirroring menu extra will appear.
Make sure your Apple TV has the current software update installed.
Make sure you have the "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" checked.
There are also Additional Information links with additional troubleshooting recommendations.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Cannot restore Macbook Pro OS.

I have a mid-2010 Macbook Pro. I am trying to reset the OS. I currently have Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) installed, but the disc I have is Leopard.
When I try and reset it to factory conditions (following the instructions on the support website) the boot screen goes gray and shows a message instructing me to manually shut down and turn on the computer. It is the same image I have seen associated with kernel panic, but it only happens when booting from the disc.
I recently installed new 8GB RAM, but I have tried with both sets of chips and see the same result.

Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Can I change the user account on a pre registered macbook pro?

I'm looking at buying a brand new Macbook Pro from someone who has only used it to do a system restore from a previous Macbook. It's a 2012 model and thanks to his system restore it is now running Mavericks. Can I update the user account to my name so that I have the latest version of OS X without reverting it back to Lion?

    Yes.
Specifically you create a new admin account with your name (or any other name of your choosing), log in with it and then delete the other account you don't want.

  • Cannot register QT Pro

I have researched most all of the forum on registering QT Pro problems and none of them have helped my problem. I do have the Pro key and when I enter the key in QT 7.6.6 it says under the key "Apple ProApps User" but nothing else happens and still does not activate the Pro program.
    Other info ---
    1. I did first delete QT10 because in trying to load Pro it said it can't because QT10 was already installed.
    2. Re-installed QT10 from Time Machine into applications. (still will not activate)
    3. QT 7.6.6 is in the utilities folder.
What is my next step to get QT Pro running?

Make sure you're entering in both the user name and key code exactly as in the email Apple sent you. Any error in either, including leaving off a salutation (for instance, if the email says "Mr. John Smith") will cause the registration to error. "Apple ProApps User" would not be an applicable user name unless you have Final Cut Studio installed which would unlock the Pro features without needing the purchase of a Pro key.
Also make sure you purchased a key for the correct platform (Windows or Mac). QuickTime keys are not cross-platform.
    Regards.
P.S. There is no standalone installer for QuickTime in general for Mac OS X 10.6. The installer for 10.5 and earlier, which is what you'll find on Apple's web site, will not work. Deleting the QuickTime Player X application will do nothing useful.
