Cannot register my new Satellite L500-126

Hi,
I bought a Toshiba Satellite L500-126 on 7th of may this year, and I tried to make registration (cuz it said in the offer that you can do that between 1st of April and 30th of June 2010) but it was undoable cuz "the registration period has passed.."
What should I do?

Try to register your notebook directly on Toshiba support page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/services_warranty_reg_map_eu/
The registration status you can check in Unit details page - http://www.toshiba-tro.de/unitdetails
For registration problems please contact Toshiba under [email protected]

  • Re: Satellite L500-126 dedicated VRAM

I bought Satellite L500-126 last week, I was told that the dedicated VRAM of this laptop is 512 MB in the shop, but when I check the VRAM at home, it shows 1G dedicated VRAM.
My old laptop is Satellite M70-147, I remember my old laptop uses a technology that doubles the real 128 VRAM to virtual 256 MB (I forgot the name of the technology).
Does my new L500-126 uses the same technology or this laptop's VRAM is real dedicated 1G?

    hi doldrumsboy,
to check out which hardware is in your machine use tools like sandra or avast
or check it against the toshiba website with the modell numer of your L500.

  • Satellite L500-126 - CD/DVD drive does not open very smoothly

    Hi,
I just got my second Satelite L500-126.
I exchanged my first one for a new one because the ESC key got stuck sometimes and made a squeaking sound.
Now with my new one, I noticed that my dvd drive does not open very smoothly and 2 little silver metal bars come out with the drive when I open it.
    Is this normal?
Also, when I close the dvd drive i hear a little "ping!" sound.
Like a spring or something. Is this also normal?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
Im not quite sure what you mean by 2 little silver metal bars but my notebooks drive contains two metals (runners, trackage).
This is normal and these parts are important to ensure that the drive could eject properly and could stay in right position.
You will always hear an short click opening and closing the drive.
So I assume this is ok.

  • New Satellite L500/00U keeps configuring

I just purchased a new L500/00U, took it home, plugged it, turned it on and it has been in configuration mode with a few reboots for over an hour.
    Is this normal?

Im afraid it is normal. Last week I got friends Satellite L500 and I have noticed the same.
To be honest I thought something was wrong with it but finally after almost a hour OS was installed and configured properly.

  • Cannot register my new Toshiba laptop

I have just purchased a new Toshiba laptop - but am unable to register same.
Every time I submit the form, the site replies that my phone number is not as it should be - the format is not correct.
I am at a loss to correct the matter. Any help there please?

I had exactly the same problem in registering my new laptop for warranty.
The laptop came with a "Toshiba Warranty Registration" icon that goes to a specific registration page offering a PUR101UK-B warranty.
The page to enter registrration details, asked for a phone number amongst the other normal data required.
The phone number is not asterisked as a compulsory field.
When I completed all the fields and submit, a rejection was returned saying that the telephone format was incorrect.
I tried every combination of format, including international 0044 and +44 approaches.
Each time the same negative result.
I eventually succeeded with the registration procedure - by removing my tel no.!
Not an elegant solution, but at least pragmatic, and of course Toshiba don't really need my phone no.
I suspect that there is a bug on this particular line of the registration page software, but no doubt some expert may have a better answer.

  • Have new satellite L500 laptop that can't connect to internet via a Ethernet cable

This laptop can connect to a wireless network but when we try to connect using the Ethernet cable we get a limited connection unknown network message.
I am getting all my information second hand from a niece I bought the laptop for who has it at university.  She has had tech support out from the university and they say its a configuration issue on the laptop and not problem with the cable or connection.
I have read on some websites that Norton anti virus could be an issue?  But I had removed this and installed Kapersky.  Any ideas?

This laptop can connect to a wireless network but when we try to connect using the Ethernet cable we get a limited connection unknown network message.
The wireless connection uses essentially everything necessary except the plumbing.
    Which Satellite L500?

  • Satellite L500-126: Win7 upgrade -can I re-activateit after new installation?

I successfully upgraded Windows 7 from my OEM Vista yesterday.
What if in the future, I need to reinstall the whole system?
Can I re-activate Win 7 after the new installation?
PS. My OEM Vista is 64 bit version and my win 7 is the ultimate 64 bit upgrade version
    THX

I hope I understand your question right so here is what I know about it:
When you upgrade original preinstalled Vista you don't need to activate Win7 but if you make clean Win7 installation then you must activate preinstalled version.
With other words to have activations-free Win7 you must install Vista at first using Toshiba recovery DVD and then upgrade it to Win7.

  • New Satellite L500 wont start

    Hi
My Xmas gift to my son shows Windows starting to load files and open, then an error message appears stating an error has occurred
    Error: F3-F100-0005
please press OK to turn off the computer.
Does anyone have any clues as to how we can make it work?
    Thanks
    Lancius

    Hi
I have no idea why this error appears but it would be recommended to reinstall the Windows and to configure the system again.
You should use the HDD recovery option!
For this power up the unit and press F8
Then new menu should appear where you should choose the option Repair my Computer.
After that choose HDD Recovery option which allows you to reinstall the Windows again.
Finish the configuration and test the notebook.
    Good luck

  • Satellite L500-1ek - setup system always starts with 800x600

I have new Satellite L500-1ek notebook with Windows 7.
Whatever screen resolution I setup system always starts with 800x600. And not only after restart but even when I logout my profile and login again.
More: I use also external monitor. I can have mirror of my laptop screen on the monitor or only display on monitor but whatever I do I cannot have extended screen.
When I try to set it up I'm simply ignored by driver.
So I tried to install newest driver. I downloaded it from Toshiba site but it never installed saying me that my system did not meet minimum requirements.
    What to do now?
    Marek

    Hi Marek,
    > I downloaded it from Toshiba site but it never installed saying me that my system did not meet minimum requirements.
As far as I know your notebook is equipped with Intel graphic card and so you are installing the latest display driver from Toshiba website. Is this right?
Well, I have to say that I had the same issue on my Satellite U400 that is also equipped with Intel graphic card. The solution for this problem was pretty easy: I installed the driver via device manager. There select the graphic card, make a right click on it and select Update Driver. In next windows choose the advanced installation where you can choose the driver directory yourself. After the installation make a restart and thats all! :)

  • Creating Win 7 64bit Recovery Disc for Satellite L500-19x?

    My new Satellite L500 - 19X came pre-installed with Win 7 - 64 bit version.
Also included was a "Product Recovery Win 7 32 bit" disc
Within the packaging was a leaflet saying:
"If you plan to use the 64-bit version at a later stage, please create a _recovery medium_ prior to installing 32-bit Windows 7"
It then cautions me to create a "64 bit recovery medium.....ordering a 64-bit recovery medium is not free of charge"
The manual goes on at length about "_System Recovery Options_" As instructed in the manual I have made a "Repair Disc Windows 7 64-bit" Am I correct in saying that I do not or cannot have an actual Win 7 64-bit disc?
The leaflet says "a backup copy (of the Win 7 64-bit) is stored on the hard disk drive as a _recovery image_" So is this the actual Win 7-64-bit complete disc that I am after, and if so how do I get it?
The Toshiba documentation is not clear, and I believe rather contradicts itself?
I am confused! Anyone understand what's going on?
    JohnF.

My confusion is because I don't understand what "recovery disc" means?!
On the "Dear Customer" flyer entitled "+Choosing your Windows 7 Architecture+" that came with the machine it states:-
"+A backup copy of the system (64 bit version) is stored on the hard disk drive as a recovery image+" This is what I don't understand, as I have already made a "+repair disc Win 7 64-bi+t" as well as having the "+Product recovery Win 7 - 32-bit" cd+" This cd seems to be the complete Windows disc, unless I am mistaken.
I guess what I am getting at is do I have complete Win 7 - 64-bit in case of total failure of the machine ? (I am asking the question because you often used to get a full Windows disc with a new computer in the old days)
Does this make it any clearer? Thanks for everyone's help

  • Satellite L500-1EH - Nothing happens if I press a FN key

    hello,
I just bought a new Satellite L500-1EH, Windows 7 and none of my function keys work with the fn keys seem to work (meaning that when I press fn key + one of the function keys nothing happens). Does somebody know how can I solve it?
    thank you very much,
    Roni

    Hi
What do you think about installing the drivers for FN keys?
You have to download Toshiba Value Added Package that you can find on the Toshiba website.
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
I had a similar issue and after installing this Toshiba all everything works. :)

  • UPDATE : Toshiba Recovery Wizard 'cannot read from source file or disk' error (satellite L500)

UPDATE 2: Phoned Toshiba tech support again, guided by techie to begin the recovery again. Just before phoning I was able to go into recovery options and view the drive setup and all the files that couldn't be read are on the CD so I've no idea why the error kept occuring, and neither did the techie. Fingers crossed it works this time but I'm not overly hopefully given that we've just done exactly the same as I did before.  UPDATE 1: I got into the BIOS and reset everything back to defaults and yay, my toshiba recovery wizard now starts! :-D  On the down side, when trying to do a factory default software / out of the box recovery I continually get error messages with regards to copying the files, for example
cannot read from source file or disk
    7z.dll
    Type application extension
    size 585kb
    date modified 7/14/2009 10.26pm
other read / copy errors include PREINST6.SWM, BOOT_32, BOOTPRIORITY, CHECKMAXPTSIZE, CHGBOOT, CPU, CPUCHECK, CREATEPARTITION, CTRLDRVINFO, DISKWIPE, DMI, DPINST32, EBLIB.DLL, ERRORDIALOG, EW3BOOTSEQ, FWLINK, FWLINK.SYS, GETHDDINFO, GETKEYSTATE, IMAGEX, INFILED, INITRECAREA, KRAIADAPI.DLL ..... at which point I decided to 'skip all' :-/
Any explanations as to what's going on and how I might be able to fix it would be very much appreciated! :-)  Thank you!
I have a two and half year old satellite L500 with an Intel i-3 and 4 gigs of RAM, on which I was running Windows 7.
Admittedly it’s had rather a hard life (I ran some very demanding CAD / graphics software on it) but it had always performed well until just recently, when after suffering several BSOD (which had never happened before), the hard drive failed.
I partitioned and formatted a brand new hard drive (which is perfectly fine and functions normally when hooked up to another laptop with a SATA to USB cable) and obtained system recovery discs from Toshiba.  Unfortunately, when I try and run the first disc, windows starts to load files but then generates an error screen with the message Error F3-F100-0003 and a request to turn the computer off.
    When I use the windows Memory Diagnostic to get into the Windows Boot Manager Screen I get the following;
Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware / software change might be the case.
    To fix the problem
Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
Choose your language settings and click ‘next’
    Click ‘repair your computer’
    File: \boot\memtest.exe
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
I can also use F8 on startup to get into the advanced boot options but selecting any of them simply results in the F3-F100-0003 error message.  I’ve run a memory test using the UBCD, which tells me the memory is fine, and tried another hard drive (which also works perfectly well in another laptop) but no joy.  On phoning Toshiba support the techie said my hard drive had failed, but as I say, both hard drives are perfectly fine / usable when hooked up to another laptop.  I’m now completely stuck as to what the problem is and how I might resolve it – any advice / suggestions would be most gratefully received! Thank you in advance :-)

    Satellite L655-S5096
    Downloads here.
the second disc gives me the the "cannot read from source file or disk PREINST8.SWM"
My best guess is that the disc is not readable. Try copying it to another. Sometimes that works.
Otherwise, order new discs from Toshiba.

  • Satellite L500 - cannot flash BIOS

    Hi all,
Looking for some help here - I have a Satellite L500 series and recently the battery has stopped charging - went from 3 hours to 0% - not charging overnight. Have tried altering the eco settings, holding down the power button for 40 seconds and even a new Power Supply unit (we have these at my work), but nothing seems to work. The only thing I can do without purchasing a new battery is to flash the BIOS.
Problem: I am getting an error saying that the BIOS cannot be flashed because it has less than 10% power. Any idea for a work-around?
I'm more inclined to purchase a new laptop than to spend any money repairing this one (CD drive and a USB port have also stopped working) but want to try everything to keep the ol' faithful going.
    Any hints or tips?
    Thanks,
    Bajar

To flash the BIOS using win-based version, the battery needs to be charged.
If its not charged, the BIOS update process would not start up.
But why you want to update the BIOS?
BIOS update does not solve the problems with CD/DVD drive or USB ports.
