Cannot reinstall InDesign CS5

I am on Mac OS X 10.7.2. CS5 Design Premium / Student License
Today InDesign would not open. A window would appear that said InDesign was "incomplete or damaged." I uninstalled InDesign using the uninstaller - I thought all was well because I was able to selectively uninstall InDesign with all my other programs being uneffected.
However, when I tried to reinstall InDesign with my code and serial number I get the message "this is not a valid entry for this product."
I am utterly at a loss. Why am I not able to reinstall my product?

Just a guess here, but you may need to contact Adobe tech support. I think what happens is that you send Adobe the serial number, they look it up and see that it is already registered, so the computer thinks you are trying to install it on more computers than your license allows. Maybe if you call them and explain your situation, they can reset the number on their end, and you can register in the normal way.

  • Why do I have to reinstall InDesign CS5.5 at every start-up?

I've had InDesign CS5.5 only a few days and have had to reinstall it everyday. It installed fine from the disk the first time. I used it for a couple hours, ran perfectly. I turned off my laptop that night and the next morning when I went to use InDesign again I received the following error message and was unable to access the software:
Adobe InDesign is missing required files. Please reinstall.
    Missing files: \Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Type Support\...\CP1252.TXT
Each time I have reinstalled and once again the program works fine. Until I turn off my laptop. I thought an old trial of InDesign might be part of the issue but I've uninstalled all that and still have the same problem.
Running Windows 7 Professional on a Dell Vostro laptop. Intel i5. 4GB RAM
Thanks in advance for any help.

There have been two similar reports in the last year or so that I can find, and it looks like an installer problem when CS3 was previously installed (did you have CS3 or CS4 installed and remove it?).
What seems to be happening is that the type support files aren't properly written to the correct location, and it wasn't entirely clear to me this morning if either previous report was finally resolved. That said, I'd do the following:
    Uninstall using Windows control panel.
    Reboot
Run the CS5 clean tool: Resolve installation problems with CS5 Cleaner Tool
Run MSconfig and trun off non-essential startups, especially antivirus, browser helpers and toolbars, iTunes, and instant messengers.
Reinstall any versions you want, in chronological order. Be sure InDesign is installed into the Program Files (x86) folder (this should happen automatically if you leave the default location).
Run MSconfig again and restore normal startup.

  • Cannot run InDesign CS5 trial

I downloaded the InDesign CS5 trial.  It downloaded fien in Mozilla Firefox and when it begins to go through the installation process, it tells me I do not meet the standard requirements. I downloaded InDesign to run the program anyways and upon opening the program, it immediately errors and quits.
I am running Mac OS 10.6.7.  I would like to use the trial until CS 5.5 is available for upgrade, but I cannot figure out what I am missing to get the trial to run.  Specs for my computer are below:
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name: MacBook  Pro
      Model Identifier: MacBookPro1,1
      Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
      Processor Speed: 2 GHz

Can you connect it with a cable, at least temporarily until ID starts the first time? Wireless is really a network printer, and ID can be temperamental about network printers as the default.

  • I am having a hard time reinstalling Indesign CS5?

I had to uninstall indesign CS5 because it wouldn't open on my computer.  I just got a new MAC and when I transferred it over it stopped working.  In the meantime I installed a trial of the new Indesign CC and now I can't figure out how to just put the CS5 version back on there. I have the serial number... do I need to uninstall my trial.  What do I use to reinstall it with my serial number?

  • Help! Cannot reinstall Indesign - creative cloud thinks it is still on Mac after deletion!

    Hi,
I recently installed Creative cloud in order to try out Indesign etc. Unfortunately my start-up disk got full, so I deleted them all. I then went to reinstall them, after telling the creative cloud to use a different file location - on an external harddisk. I successfully downloaded and installed Photoshop and Illustrator. However, when I tried to reinstall Indesign, the Creative cloud seems to think it is still on my Mac - which it certainly is not! The only active button neaar Indesign is "tutorials".  So now I do not have the programme, and I cannot find a way to reinstall it.
HELP! I really need the programme for a course I'm taking.

  • Prob uninstall & reinstall Indesign CS5.5

Please it is being a nightmare for me
Adobe asked me to uninstall and reinstall Indesign (I have a master collection) CS5.5. Because I had a problem.
So I uninstall Indesign, and went trough Adobe Assistant Dowload to download Indesign CS55 but it does not recognize my Licence and so it install only the trial (in a non appropriate language) So i unistall it again...
I've never get the first installation from a DVD but from Adobe website.... And I dont want to take the risk to reinstall the full Mastercollection
So my question is : Do i have to reintall Indesign only from Adobe Assistant Download ?? Or is there another link for that ?? I dont want the trial

You should be able to run the installer from the master collection and choose which programs to install, and that's the installer that will recognize the serial number you have.
Next time you have a problem and someone tells you to uninstall and reinstall, come here first for a second opinion. We can aften figure out what's wrong and fix it without having to go to that extreme.

  • Lost CS3 serial number and email I used from that purchase is no longer valid, now I cannot reinstall my CS5 after wiping my hard drive clean from a computer problem.

Bought CS3 about 7 years ago under an email address that's been closed for many years and I lost the serial number from that old CS3 and now after doing a clean wipe of my hard drive after some computer glitches, I can no longer install CS5 upgrade as I cannot produce the CS3 serial number. No monkey business, I've been using CS5 since 2011 when I bought it directly from Adobe. What are my options?

Is it possible for you to log in to your OLD Adobe account using that email address to check your history?
https://www.adobe.com/account.html for serial numbers or subscriptions on your Adobe page
If not, you MAY be able to have an employee look up the information linked to that old email address
Adobe contact information - http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html may help
-Select your product and what you need help with
-Click on the blue box "Still need help? Contact us"
If that doesn't work, you are going to have to buy new... either a subscription or Creative Suite 6

  • Need help reinstalling indesign cs5 (master collection)

I want to know if I put in the original discs...does this override and reinstall the entire collection?  Or is there a way to only reinstall this particular program.  Also there is not one currently to uninstall?

    Hi,
I am sorry but CS5 is not in sales anymore. If you wish you can go for Creative Cloud which will give additional software including Master Collection and many more features at a very cost effective price.
You can visit Adobe.com for further details.

  • Can not open InDesign CS5 after updating to Yosemite.

I cannot open InDesign CS5 after updating my iMac to OS X Yosemite. I received an error message that said I need to install the legacy Java SE runtime.
I searched through the topics in this Forum, and followed what was recommended.
I have installed the most current legacy Java SE 8 runtime and verified that it is on my computer,
then rebooted the computer, a 2014 iMac. I have uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign CS5.
I still receive the error message that I need to install the legacy Java SE runtime. Next steps?

CS5 is NOT supported under Yosemite. Additionally, in place operating system upgrades are nothing short of a crapshoot.
Try uninstalling, running the cleaner tool and reinstalling. If that doesn’t help a clean install of the operating system is in order.
Even then you’re on your own.

  • CS5 InDesign cannot open files in the InDesign CS5 document format

I'll be working in InDesign CS5 with no problems then at some point I'll double click on an InDesign file and a window comes up and says - InDesign cannot open files in the InDesign CS5 document format. Sometimes when this happens I have to completely reboot my whole system before I can get InDesign to function correctly. Is this a flaw with CS5? Did not happen with previous versions. It doesn't always happen but I can't figure out what causes it. Would appreciate anyones help. I'm getting to really HATE InDesign!!

I have not uninstalled and reinstalled, but I did just switch over to another workstation using Time Machine. The previous system was Leopard. This one is running Snow Leopard.
I'm not sure how to parse this. When you say "switch over to another workstaiton using Time Machine" do you mean, "started using another machine that happens to be using Time Machine for backups and is also running 10.6 instead of 10.5"?
Or do you mean, "Used the Time Machine program to upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6?" If you mean the second one, well, I can't say I am surprised that things are messed up. And that would make your problem rather different than the other posters, which is good reason for you to have started your own thread (and thus your own solution)....
I'm a little bit leary of getting in and changing things in Terminal, without understanding what I am changing. Plus this is a workstation at work, so if I screw something up, that is not a good things, and I don't have time to spend a day fixing things back up again, with the way our workload is.
Well, you can find a lot of marginal documentation about lsregister and Launch Services, but I wonder whether your understood the ramifications of messing with Time Machine (or maybe I have misinterpretted you!). I'd be surprised if you found another way to fix this, other than uninstall/reinstall.
    Good luck.

  • I am running InDesign CS5.5 and trying to open an In Design File but getting an error message. " Cannot open the file "PDavidLCover.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file

I am running InDesign CS5.5 and trying to open an In Design File but getting an error message. " Cannot open the file "PDavidLCover.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file me be open in another application."Please help I really need to get this file open.

Since you've shown us the folder contents it's a good bet it isn't in use (no lock file). And it doesn't look like the file is mis-named as there doesn't seem to be anything else there that would be the .indd file (but just in case, open it in TextEdit and paste the first few lines here so we can see what the file header says), so the most likely case is the file is damaged. Is that on a removable device of some sort?
You can try the tool at Repair corrupt InDesign Adobe files on Mac OS X  or send me a link to the file by private message and I'll try the recovery tool I have for Windows.

  • INDD CS6 error: "InDesign cannot open files in the "InDesign CS5.5 Document" format.

Working in CS6 on Mac OS X 10.7.5: When I double click an INDD file in the Finder, I get the following error from InDesign:
"The document "doc name" could not be opened. InDesign cannot open files in the "InDesign CS5.5 Document" format."
This just started recently and I have not been able to figure out why. I have not updated INDD or OS X. I can't think of anything else that changed, other than maybe a Java update. Have not updated to the latest OS yet.
The files I'm trying to open are files I created with CS6 - as recent as a few minutes ago.  I can open them fine using the File>Open command in InDesign so I can open them, but I can't open them by double clicking them in Finder or dragging them to the INDD icon in the dock.
The info in Finder's "Get Info" window says they are CS6 files set to open in CS6 and I have permissions to read and write. They are not locked.
This is not incapacitating, but rather annoying and slows me down since this is one of the most common ways I open files.
    Any suggestsion would be appreciated.

Probably won't work because it sounds like an OS problem of some sort, but you can try trashing the prefs. See Replace Your Preferences
