Cannot reinstall Lion, remaining time keep increasing

The thing is, when I was restalling Lion on my mac book pro, the remaining time kept increasing and never finish installation. What's wrong with it?

You probably will not be able to get Lion. Since you didn't buy it, it won't be available to you via download. You would need the seller's Apple ID and password to download it again. And with no online Apple Store in Israel you can't buy it from Apple. You'll either need to look for a private party selling the Lion Flash installer, which Apple sold for a while, or get a retail copy of 10.6 Snow Leopard and install that instead.

  • Stuck in recovery mode and cannot reinstall Lion

I have an early 2008 Macbook, running on OS X Lion 10.8, purchased second hand from Ebay in the UK, and now I am based in Israel.
For the last few days, my macbook started to run very slowly, crashing every time i opened a web browser for example.
I decided to erase the drive. I did this by booting up in recovery mode, and through disk utility erasing the drive.
Now my problem is that I cannot reinstall Lion, because my Apple ID has never purchased Lion.
I have thought about using another computer to access the Apple store, purchase Lion, then go back to my macbook and see if my apple ID works when trying to reinstall Lion. (I have realised however, that Lion 10.8 is no longer available in the apple store, and that only mountain lion can be purchased. My macbook is early 2008, and therefore not compatible with mountain lion)
Another idea I had was to use another computer to download Lion 10.8, save it to my external hard drive, and boot from that external hard drive. However, again, 10.8 no longer available)
I tried doing these things in safari in recovery mode, however I am not able to download anything, not even to my external hard drive.
Another idea I had was using someone elses Apple ID who has purchased lion, when trying to reinstall in recovery mode.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'm running out of ideas. I also don't know anyone nearby who has a macbook or would have a version of Lion I could boot off a memory stick.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Yeah same exact problem as me.  EXACTLY.  In a way I'm glad more than just me are having the problem so I know it's probably not on my end and on the apple side....I HOPE that is what it is.
MAN, a whole day and a half????  Crap I need my phone to work....
I really think it's the apple servers because it errors 3014 right when iTunes says "verifying phone....." something....  It goes away so fast I can't read the rest, but I think that is the step where it verifies phone to the apple servers, which are overloaded, I assume.
It's gotta be that.  How many other people are having this same exact issue?

  • Cannot reinstall Lion on my iMac

I have tried to no avail to reinstall Lion on my iMac. I had experienced a problem with the "setup assistant" poping up everytime I logged into my account. I decided to reinstall, and went through the proper procedure, booting up and starting the intstall. Everytime, without fail, a message appears telling me that an error has occured and I cannot proceed. So sad.

It is the recovery partition that Lion automatically puts on the computer if you purchased Lion via App Store. I hold down option when the computer boots up, then I choose the recovery option. When Lion attepts to "verify with apple" my copy of Lion, it just times out saying that the command cannot be completed.

  • Mail not opening after reinstalling Lion using Time Machine

I did a fresh reinstall of Lion using Time Machine and not Mail won't open.
It says that mail cannot be opened because of a problem and suggests I contact the developer or possibly reinstall app.
I've looked around for solution but none of the ones out there work.

    Indiogdp,
There may a simple answer for you. It was for me. Make sure that Mail (mine is 5.2) is running in 32 bit mode. To check, go to Applications, right click on Mail and select Get Info (command i will do it too). Then find the checkbox next to "Run in 32 bit mode," and select it. Although you probably don't need to leave the info box open I did until I satisfied myself that it worked.
    Hope this helps.

  • I am unable to erase hard drive after a crash, also cannot reinstall Lion because disk is locked.  There seems to be nothing else to do, suggestions?  Where do I go from here?

I downloaded Lion 100 days ago (conveniently after the 90 day tech support)  now my HDD has crashed and it gets stuck at the apple screen.  I then hold command R and go to disc utility try to repair, that doesn't work, and try to erase.  But it says error, cannot unmount disk.  I then try to reload Lion, but it says the disk is locked.  Okay, so do I need a new hard drive?  If so that's fine, I just cannot seem to erase this drive to reinstall lion.  Also, I don't have a disk to reinstall OSx, as Lion is done via internet.

Wow, thanks.  It did the trick.  So now I am confused, do you think I still need to take in my Mac to see if there are some problems with the hard drive, or do you think I'm in the clear.  I was going to get a new hard drive installed, because I thought that was the issue seeing as I couldn't access it during safe mode.

  • New Mac Mini, wiped the HD and cannot reinstall Lion

    Hi,
I received my new mini that came with Lion, restored from a TimeMachine backup and realised i preferred to start off with a clean slate.
I tried to reinstall Lion from scratch (from network recovery) and accidentally deleted even the recovery partition (yes, i deserve a good slap).
Now i am not even able to reinstall Snow Leopard on the Mini (to then install Lion on top of it):
    - the mini does not boot from external optical CD player (apple), and throws a kernel panic: appleintelCPUPowerManagement
    - it does not boot from a bootable USB thumbdrive, same error as above
    - internet recovery tells me: "this version of OS X 10.7 cannot be installed on this computer"
I do not know what to do now.
The only option i can think of is to use the mini in target disk mode and try to reinstall everything after connecting it to my macbook air. however i need to find adaptors from Fw400 to Fw800 (this is what the mini has) and from firewire 400 to USB to connect a firewire cable to my macbook air.
Does anybody have a better idea?

    Use Lion Internet Recovery
If you happen to encounter a situation in which you cannot start from the Recovery HD, such as your hard drive stopped responding or you installed a new hard drive without Mac OS X installed, new Mac models introduced after public availability of OS X Lion automatically use the Lion Internet Recovery feature if the Recovery HD (Command-R method above) doesn't work. Lion Internet Recovery lets you start your Mac directly from Apple's Servers. The system runs a quick test of your memory and hard drive to ensure there are no hardware issues.
Lion Internet Recovery presents a limited interface at first, with only the ability to select your preferred Wi-Fi network and, if needed, enter the WPA passphrase. Next, Lion Internet Recovery will download and start from a Recovery HD image. From there, you are offered all the same utilities and functions described above.
As with the Recovery HD, reinstallation of OS X Lion from Lion Internet Recovery requires an Internet connection.

  • Mac Mini 2011 cannot reinstall lion

I have the 2.3 Ghz 2011 Mac mini and I was going to reinstall Lion through recovery as there is no disk or flash media included with the computer. I am able to boot into recovery but when i choose to install lion, I receive a message that it has to check with Apple to confirm availability and errors out saying I need to contact Apple Care.
I called AppleCare and they acknowledged they know the problem is related to serial number issues but can not do anything with out charging a rediculous fee for service. The tech said they have to make changes on their end but cannot move forward with out payment? He also said taking it to the store is not an option as I am out of 90 days for software related issues.
I have found that others that cannot reinstall on MacMini also have the same problem with iLife apps not update correctly through Software update and showing up in App store as purchased but cannot update.
I should note that Lion came preinstalled on the computer, it was not purchased though the App store so I cannot make a booatable USB drive to install from, it has to connect over the internet and for some reason is failing authenication from Apple.
Any suggestions would be appreciated as i have tried formatting main disk and lost recovery HD on main drive. Luckily, I had make an extenal Recovery HD(no .dmg) and can also boot from internet recovery.
Thanks and beware of purchasing computer that offers no physical backup of Operating System!

If on the off chance you hvae another mac or you know someone else who has a mac download this tool and creatse a bootable OS X Lion recovery USB Pen. Then you should be able to recover from it. I have the Same Mac Mini as you, I have a bootable USB Created, I haven't used it but made it on the off chance something happens.
Hope this helps and Good Luck,
    Rory

I did a search on google and found this:-
"Windows XP updates your system clock via the internet (provided you are connected of course) every 7 days. If you want your clock updated more often, change the interval time like this:
Press win key+R and type regedit, then press enter.
    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services \W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient
    Select "SpecialPollInterval"
Change decimal value from 604800 to what ever interval you want in seconds. for example: 172800 (2 days) or 86400 (1 day).
    Save and exit."
Although this does not fix the cause of the problem you have, (you may have a faulty timing crystal) it should help.

  • Reinstalling lion server but keeping users/groups including their home folder, mail, etc

I need to reinstall my lion server due to some changes in the DNS. I have a time machine backup of the server.
Is there an easy way to transfer/migrate only user data (home folder, mail, calendar, address book).. I do not need to recover the whole server as some services need to be reconfigured.
Can I use the installtion program as there is an option to migrate from other serves? If so, can I select what to migrate?
    Thanks

Migration can be handled by the installer or run post-installation by launching /Applications/Utilities/Migration Assistant.app. You'll get three checkboxes: User accounts, applications and "other data." You can exclude certain users from migration, but you can't otherwise alter the list of files brought in from your backup.
You might choose to migrate users and applications, then, post-install, mount your Time Machine backup as a volume and copy over whatever arbitrary data you want to recover. Don't forget to turn Time Machine off so you don't risk clobbering your backed-up data.
    Best of luck.

  • How do I reinstall lion using time machine (Macbook Pro mid-2009)?

I am going to replace my hard drive (and add RAM) on my Macbook Pro (mid-2009) myself. I have Lion (10.7.4) currently, and have backed up via time machine on an external drive. I don't have Lion on a usb, and from what I read, Lion Recovery via internet isn't applicable for my macbook (pre 2010). Is the time machine backup a bootable drive? If so, then am I all good so long as my backup is completed prior to replacing the hard drive? If not, how do I create a bootable drive so I can get back to "normal"?
    Thanks! :-)

To determine if your Time Machine backup has a Recovery HD on it restart the computer. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears. A Recovery HD option should appear on your Time Machine backup drive. Select it and click on the arrow button below the icon. If all is well your machine should boot into the Recovery HD utilities screen.
If all is well then after you replace your drive boot from the Time Machine Recovery HD. Start by:
    Drive Preparation for Lion
    1.  Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your new hard drive (this is an entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After finishing formatting quit DU and return to the main menu. Select the option to Restore from a Time Machine backup then click on the Continue button.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
