Cannot Reinstall Photoshop CS2 Upgrade

I am migrating to a new Win7 computer. I have a Photoshop CS2 upgrade CD, but the installer wants to find an older version on the hard drive. I no longer have older versions (stretching back to 3.0). I had to replace a bad hard drive last year and was able to pull this off then, but I can't recall how.
Any ideas?

I physically changed my hard drive and thought I had copied all relevant files, but I know have to reinstall CS2 upgrade and it is looking for my old serial number.  I have the Photoshop 5.5 discs, but not the past serial numbers. How can I now install the CS2?
    Thank You

  • "Invalid Serial Number" - Photoshop CS2 (Upgrade)

Hello, I got the Photoshop CS2 Upgrade some years back and it has always worked fine. Whenever I needed to reinstall my operating system, it was a simple matter of deactivating the software and then activating it after reinstalling Windows.
However ths week, after reinstalling my Windows 7, I was informed that the Adobe CS2 activation server is no longer available, so I couldn't activate my CS2 that was installed from my CD. I read all about it on this website, and followed the instructions to download Photoshop CS2 directly from the website.
Now that I am installing the CS2 that I downloaded from here, I am being told that my serial number is "invalid". I have entered it correctly. It is very frustrating, the software on my CD has never given any problems in upgrading my Photoshop CS to CS2, but the one I downloaded is a pain. I would appreciate it if someone could help me resolve this problem.

Are you trying to install the one in the following link that doesn’t need activation if you use the serial number also supplied at the link, below, or some other one?  “Downloaded from the website” and “downloaded from here” aren’t very precise:

  • Can I upgrade my photoshop cs2 upgrade to cs5?

I bought a photoshop CS2 upgrade to the original photoshop. I'd like to upgrade that photoshop cs2 to photoshop cs5. I just want to confirm that this is a valid upgrade path?

What is "various vendors"? I'd be extremely careful with that. Unless you can be 100% sure this is an authorized reseller selling of his remaining CS5 packages, this may be fraud. Counterfeited packages that were replicated so perfectly they looked like the real deal have been around for a while...

  • Windows 7, problems with Photoshop CS2 upgrade install

I just upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and I seem to have outsmarted myself.  Ever since version 5 I've bought the upgrade... well, now I no longer have the original version 5 disk and can no longer install and use either my CS or CS2 version.  While I do have a backup copy of my old version 5 CD copied onto my hard drive it will not install on Win7 and the CS2 upgrade doesn't recognize the backup as a valid upgrade.
When I try to install version 5 I get an error message to the effect that it's incompatable with Windows 7.  Trying to install either CS or CS2 and I get a "valid upgrade not found" error... if I let it install anyway in trial mode once it's done installing I get a "trial period is over, enter serial number".  I enter my serial number for the version I'm installing and I get "invalid serial number"  Invalid?  It's the number on the back of the CD case verified 10 times.
Am I hosed or will I have to go back to Windows XP?  I've paid for the Photoshop CS upgrade and the CS2 upgrade over the years but neither will install and run since I cannot install the last full version I own.
At the moment I'm having to use my laptop for all my photoshop work since it's still running XP and so it has a functional version of Photoshop.

    It works fine.
Right click on the "setup.exe" file on the CS2 install disc and then click on "properties", then click on the "compatibility" tab.
Click on the box for "Run this in compability mode" and in the pull down select "XP sp2".
    Click "apply" and then "ok".
Now go back to "setup.exe" and click on "Run as administrator" and CS2 should load fine.

  • Need to reinstall Photoshop CS2 but it can't find a previously installed version so won't reinstall

Photoshop CS2 told me there was a "major problem" and that I would need to reinstall the software to continue using it.
So I used the installer CD, but it told me it could not install because there was already a copy installed, which would need to be removed.
So I removed the old version and tried to reinstall but now it tells me it needs a previously installed version in order to reinstall.
Adobe "customer service"chat  is 100% useless on this, referred me to the 800 #, been on hold for over 45 miinutes now, and no relevant topics found on "help" forums.
For a multibillion dollar monopoly, you'd think they could hire a couple of customer service reps but I guess it's all DIY "support" here, so can anyone help?

So, you are NOT trying to reinstall an upgrade, but a purchased version (not in an upgrade path from one version to the next)?
If that is correct, there should be no request for a "previously installed version." That only appears when one is installing an upgrade.
Are you installing from physical media (a DVD), or from a download?
Sorry, I do not have an answer for you.
    Good luck,

  • Photoshop CS2 upgrade?

I just upgraded my Mac OSX.4 to OSX.6, since my Outlook email program told me my browser was outdated.  What a headache!  Had to back everything up, then couldn't reinstall my Photoshop CS2.
(Anyone remember the good old days when they made things to last?)  I think I now have to upgrade my Photoshop to CS5, and then will get a free upgrade to CS6, even though my CS2 was absolutely fine!  I really don't have the money for that right now and wonder if anyone can provide a solution???

You startled me for a second!  Thankfully, you are mistaken.
I just went and double checked:  Photoshop 7.0.1 launched flawlessly in Tiger 10.4.11 on my G5 Quad Power Mac, and I'm delighted to see it running like the proverbial bat out of he!! on that machine.
I have the PPC G5 Quad sharing dual monitors, as well as keyboard, mouse and tablet— through a simple USB switchbox—with my Mac Pro running Lion 10.7.5.  The Power Mac also runs Classic so I have a very wide choice of Mac operating systems without moving my chair, keyboard and monitors.

  • Trying to Reinstall Photoshop CS2

    Hello,
I have a power pc mac mini and I've never had a problem with using my Photoshop CS2 but, on Oct 11, I got an error message that said I needed to reinstall the program. So, I sent Photoshop to the trash, along with Bridge and the Help Center, per suggestions I'd read elsewhere, but I can't reintall it! It seems to work all the way to the end and then it says an error has occurred and it's missing a file, please try again. I've tried numerous times and nothing.
I called Adobe and the guy said I should create a new user account on my computer. That's a big hassle and I don't see how that it going to solve anything. If I want further assistance, he says I'll have to pay $40. What? It doesn't sound like Adobe cares one way or another what happens to me.
I know that Adobe is going through some major enhancements, etc. this week so I am suspicious that my glitch is somehow attached to what they're doing. Is that possible?
I am losing valuable time. I use Photoshop every day and this is a major inconvenience. This just isn't right. Can someone out there help?

I know little about technical troubleshooting, but in order for someone else to step in to provide you some help...

Just how did you delete photoshop again, exact steps?
It will also help us users if you would tell us what system you are using and what exactly the error message said.

I new user account is a very common step in trouble shooting.
And you are using software that is years old now, of course they want to you upgrade so paying for service is not really an issue. If you had the current version that wouldn't be the case.
I know that Adobe is going through some major enhancements, etc. this week so I am suspicious that my glitch is somehow attached to what they're doing. Is that possible?
No. Something else on your end has happened. It is virtually impossible for Adobe to do something on their end that would specifically target your software directly, and since many people are running old versions than you I don't think you have to worry.

  • Photoshop CS2 Upgrade Installation Problems w/ Vista Problems

I recently purchased a new laptop w/ Windows Vista which I'm trying to install my copy of Photoshop CS2 onto. My Photoshop license is an upgrade license ... originally upgraded from Photoshop v4.0.
When installing an upgrade copy of PS CS2, it requires proof of your previous version in order to verify you're a legitimate upgrader. This works fine if you're upgrading from a version of Photoshop after 5.x ...you simply insert your CD and the installation continues. The installation process is less straight-forward for users like myself ... installing from an upgraded version prior to 5. I'm required to call Adobe ... and conduct a phone verification procedure where I give them a code displayed on the screen during installation and they give me a response code to type into the installation form.
I deauthorized my old laptop ... start the installation routine on my new laptop ... call Adobe w/ my verification code ... enter the response code (which is accepted) and complete the installation without any problems. My problem occurs when I go to run the software. The startup screen indicates that the software is still in "Tryout Mode", and the first window I'm presented with is the "Adobe Activation" window requesting my serial number. If I try to enter my CS2 serial number it is rejected with the message:
"You must enter a valid serial number before activating online or viewing activation options. Please check your serial number and re-enter it, or click the Purchase button to buy a copy of this product"
The thing is ... this IS a valid serial number. I've confirmed this with Adobe. (It's probably an upgrade serial number, which is why the software is rejecting it). I called Adobe and they're now telling me that I must enter a paid-support agreement in order to receive help installing my software. They claim their software is working correctly, and it must be a problem with my computer.
Has anybody experienced a problem like this? I refuse to pay more for something that worked fine on XP just to use it on Vista due to bugs in their installation and activation routine.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

Have the bugs of using with Vista been fixed, or still not working? thanks,
I know this is an old problem, but surely there is an answer to fix the problem by now...
What problems?  I used Photoshop CS2 with Vista with no problems (I still have it installed on a Vista system if you'd like me to check anything in particular).  CS3 and CS4 worked well as well.  Haven't tried CS5 on Vista as I have moved up to Windows 7, but I suspect it works just fine.

  • Cannot install Photoshop CS2 on Intel Mac 10.4.6 or 10.4.7

    Hey,
I have just tried to install Photoshop CS2 on an Itel MacBook Pro but it gets stuck while installing "Shared Packages" of "Adobe Help Center".
    Any idea out there?
    Thanks

Please don't say that CS2 doesn't work under Rosetta, when it does. There are performance issues, and for those who use CS2 for large, system intensive purposes have good reason to not want to upgrade to Intel, but that doesn't mean CS2 won't work.
I haven't experienced the install problem personally, but googling "cs2""intel""mac" yields this article:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060524084530919
To summarize, it may be an issue with either Quicktime 7.1 or Adobe Version Cue.
    Good luck.

  • Cannot initialize Photoshop CS2 "not enough memory" error

I had Photoshop CS2 installed and running fine on a MacBook Pro (10.5.4, 2GB RAM), until it suddenly crashed and now will not open. Gives the error message: "Could not initialize because there's not enough memory." I have 1.5 GB of memory free, and 70 GB of disk space free. I've reinstalled, tried creating a new user to run it, but nothing is working. I've found a couple of mentions of the same problem online, but no solutions. Can anyone help me?

    Hi Jen,
I don't know how MacBook works but it sounds like I just had basically the same problem which John Joslin had the correct answer.  He said, "Try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ at:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
(A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.)"
I have windows vista ultimate so I'm not sure if this will help you but my preferences were at:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings. I just renamed my pref's and photoshop opened right up.
    Good Luck!

  • Hard drive crash, reinstall Photoshop CS2

I recently had a serious event with my MacBook Pro's hard drive. The Geniuses got it going again, but I'm now having issues with Photoshop (CS2). I need to reinstall the software to fix it, but I've used up my two "licenses" for the software. I can't reload directly from the CD's - it won't allow it.
Is there a way to bypass this software permission, or do I need to reformat my computer and start over?
    Thanks!

You need to call Customer Service and request a phone deactivation and activation.

  • Reinstalling Photoshop CS2

I have been using Photoshop CS2 fr quite some time successfully. However, I have been receiving this message. "the Adobe Updater could not be started. Reistall program."   Can I uninstall CS2 and reinstall without contacting Adobe first?? I have my original program CDs.

you must download ps cs2 from here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=cs2_downloads

  • Photoshop CS2 Upgrade to CS4 Upgrade with CS4 trial version

    Hello,
today I bought the PS CS4 Upgrade (Win). The shipping will take 7 days so I asked myself if it is possible to upgrade my "CS2 Upgrade version" (from PS 6 full version) to CS4 by using the trail version.
    Dear Forum,
do you have a step by step guidance about that issue?
    Thanks!

Theoretically you should be able to do it, but I would advise against it because there are so many installation problems reported, especially with trials.
You have waited since September for CS4, so hang on for another 7 days and install the upgrade direct from the DVDs.

  • Can't install update after reinstalling photoshop CS2

I manually removed PS CS2 because of a problem with the 9.0.2 update. I reinstalled PS CS2(9.0). Then tried to update to 9.0.1 but the auto update tells me no available updates.
Did i miss something when removing PS CS2 thats makeing it think it is still 9.0.2?
    Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

First of all, if you installed the Adobe TWAIN plugin by moving it, put it back. (You can get this error if you move it instead of copying it to install it.) Also, if you have done anything to the auto analyzer, like renaming it, name it back to what it was before. Then restart your mac and try again.
