Cannot reinstall PSE6 with Snow Leapoard

Running Snow leopard and PSE6 on a 27” iMac. Things seemed to be working fine though I am not a frequent user. Last night I was uninstalling some applications and accidently uninstalled the Adobe updater. When I tried to check for updates with PSE6 it said I needed to do a reinstall to be able to run the updater. I uninstalled PSE6 and proceeded with a fresh install. The installer went for about five minutes and then ejected the disc and an error message poped up saying some shared components were installed but that PSE6 could not be installed. Any suggestions?  I have read other post on issues with SL, but none seem to have my particular issue. Thanks.
Zig

Let me rephrase and enhance it technically, so that other users can understand it better.
Actually inside the Library\Fonts\ folder inside Zig's machine there was an empty folder created having name of a font but it was not having any font file (.otf) inside it and PSE installer since it was able to locate the folder was giving error because it was seeing a folder created with a font name but there was no font file inside it. Also, ideally inside the Library\Fonts\ folder, the fonts should get installed directly without creating any directory for itself.
We removed the empty font folder from Zig's machine and PSE installer completed its flight successfully.
Hope this helps. Want to thank you Zig again for all the patience and calmness before and during the session. That really helps!!
Cheers,
Ankush

Can you tell me why iPad 2 is not cannot to laptop with snow Leopard it doesn't cannot it

You question is garbled. Are you saying your iPad cannot connect to a laptop with Snow Leopard? Restart your computer. Start iTunes and check for updates. If there are any updates to itunes download and install it. Then restart your computer and start iTunes.
Then reboot your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart.
Finally connect your iPad to your computer. Use a USB on your computer that is not on the keyboard or connected to a hub.
If you do these things and it still doesn't show up in iTunes on your computer report back here and explain clearly just what happened.

  • HP 7210 cannot print wirelessly with Snow Leopard

After updating to Snow Leopard on my sons Mac Laptop his HP 7210 will no longer print wirelessly via airport extreme.
I am able to print with the printer directly hooked up to my computer with USB.
I reinstalled the printer driver, same results.
Then I d/l the drivers from Apple and still the same results.
Airport shows the printer as being hooked up.
Whenever I try to print wirelessly airport says it cannot find the printer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

How do you have the Officejet 7210 hooked up wirelessly? Is it plugged into the USB port on your Airport Extreme (which I assume is the case based on your comments, but I'm not 100% sure)? We have been receiving many complaints about this setup not working (as have other vendors) but I don't have a good answer why yet or how to work around it.
Out of curiosity, have you tried creating the print queue using the IP address of your Airport instead of using Bonjour?
Just trying to nail things down.

  • ICal backed up with Leopard cannot be open with Snow Leopard!!!!

I cloned my MacBook Pro HD to an external one while using OSX 10.5. After upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.1 when I try to open iCal on the external HD there is a message saying "You can't use this version of the application iCal.app with this version of Mac OS X. You have iCal.app 3.0.8".
In fact, the external HD version of iCal is 3.0.7.
With the upgrade to SL the version changed to 4.0.
The same thing occurs trying to open Mail; it tells me the external HD version is 3.6, while the SL version is 4.1
Apple support told me that in fact this is the way it is supposed to work!!!! So am I totally stuck? Is the clone totally worthless?
Has Apple ever been this "intelligent" before?? How many other "improvements" have they made?
    Can anybody help me?

So why are you trying to run an application from a clone of Leopard while started up from Snow Leopard? If you start up from the clone, you will be running Leopard & all the Leopard versions of the apps will run just fine. If you start up from Snow Leopard, all the Snow Leopard versions of the apps will run just fine.

  • Cannot open OnLocation with Snow Leopard

hi, i have the cs4 master collection and i tried to use onlocation. I am on a late 2008 15 inch macbook pro. The program starts bouncing on the dock but then it doesnt load or anything. Then it stops and closes itself. No error messages, no loading windows, no nothing. What can i do?

I'm having the same problem. MacBookPro, OS X 10.6.2.
I am able to launch if I go to Terminal, and open the executable file inside the .app package directly, e.g. type:
    /Applications/Adobe\ OnLocation\ CS4/Adobe\ OnLocation\ CS4.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe\ OnLocation
A bunch of what look to be debugging messages print out in the Terminal window as you operate the app. But it seems to work.
I guess this will be my workaround for the time being.
    Update: 01/04/10
There has been an OL update or two but these don't seem to address this issue, whatever it is. I've created an alias to the executable in the MacOS subfolder, and just use that to launch.

Microsoft Office 2004 (Word) unable to save files
I have been running Office 2004 on my Intel iMac with Snow Leopard for some time and all of a sudden I cannot save a document. Word just stopped responding and I have to force quit. I can open Word and create a new document but I cannot save it. I reinstalled Word but that didn’t help. Then went to the Internet and found at least one other Mac user having the same problem which it suggests is caused by a recent Mac Security Update:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2004-macword/word-2004-wil l-not-open-or-save-documents/b04eb870-9b0d-4f3b-bb47-b122301e36f6
So I check for a new Mac Security Update and sure enough there was one. I downloaded it and now Word seems to be working, as it should. I can both open and save files. The only problem remaining is that when I open Word I get the following error message “An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library”. I contacted Apple but they were unable to help.
How can I get rid of this error message?

Look, I realize you might have to get your machine working, so this is how you revert back.
    Restore proceedure to pre-Security Update 2012-001 v 1.0 & v 1.1
#1 Backup your personal data off the machine.
Backup files off the computer (not to TimeMachine). If you don't have a external drive, get one and connect to the USB/Firewire port and simply drag and drop copy your User folder to the external drive, it will copy all your files. It's best to have two backups of your data off the machine when trying to restore.
Disconnect all drives now to prevent any mistakes from occuring.
    #2 Reinstall OS X 10.6 from disk
Get out your 10.6 install disk and make sure it's clean and polished (very soft cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol, no scratches) If your disk is borked, you'll have to order a new one from Apple with your serial number.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk (wired keyboard, internal optical drive), use Disk Utility First Aid to >Repair Disk  of your internal drive  (do not format or erase!!), Quit DU and simply re-install 10.6.
Note: Simply reinstalling 10.6 version from disk (without erasing the drive) only replaces 10.6.8 with 10.6.x and bundled Apple programs, won't touch your files (backup anyway)  or most programs, unless they installed a kext file into OS X itself. (only a few on average do this)
    #3 Update to 10.6.8 without Security Update 2012-001 v1.0 or v1.1
Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8 via Software Update, but EXCLUDE THE Security Update 2012-001 by checkinig the details and unchecking the blue check box.
#4 Reinstall any non-working third party programs
When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that require kext files installed into OS X, you'll know, they won't work when you launch them or hang for some reason as they are missing the part they installed into OS X.
If for some freakish reason you get gray screen at any time when booting (possible it might occur when you reinstall older programs), hold the shift key down while booting (Safe Mode, disables kext files) and update your installed third party software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

    That's it really.

  • Macbook Air with no OSX (Mid 2011) ... cannot install Lion nor Snow Leopard

I have a Macbook Air with no OSX (Mid 2011) ... and I cannot install Lion nor Snow Leopard.
I purchased this Macbook Air 13" and found that the OS had been wiped off. Since then I've been able to get the Recovery Disk Assistant to get me into the Recovery Partition on the MBA... but when I try the "Reinstall Mac OS X" from within Mac OS X Utilities, the download fails after 30 sec. and I get the error message, "Could not find installation information for this machine. Contact Apple Care". This MBA is still covered under Apple's Applecare, but the nearest Apple Store is 3 hrs away and from what I've read, they may not be able to help me.
I know all about Build 11A2063 but cannot figure out where or how to get that.
Also, I've tried making a bootable Lion Drive from my Mac Mini onto a flashdrive, but this too did not work on the MBA (I assume because it isn't Build 11A2063).
I have a huge expensive paper weight with no idea of where to go from here. Any help would be much appreciated.

Where did you buy an MBA without an operating system?  Was this from another individual who took the liberty to remove the Mac OS X before selling it to you?
You might try calling Apple customer support and have them walk you through the process, as they can figure out just what version of the OS should be on that machine.

Not possible. You need to update to v10.6.8
Click your Apple menu > Software Update
Or update using the this download > Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
    Then restart your Mac.

  • Format/Reinstall Mountain Lion with Snow Leopard DVD

I began having problems with software freezing up this morning out of nowhere and decided to do a disk verify on the Macintosh HD partition using Disk Utility. Once it completed it stated I needed to restart holding CMD+R to enter Disk Utility outside of OSX (I guess) to repair some problems that showed up. After doing that, I recieved a message stating that it could not repair the disk, to backup as much as possible, reformat, and reinstall OSX.
I have been using time machine to back up that partition since the beginning. Backups should not be a problem.
    So here are my questions:
#1 - Do I only need to select the "Macintosh HD" partition in disk utility and hit reformat?
Will it even allow me to do that within OSX?
And will it guide me through the process to reinstall OSX?
#2 - When I purchased the iMac it came with Snow Leopard, but have since upgraded to Lion, then Mountain Lion.
If I reinstall using the DVD that came with the iMac, will I lose Mountain Lion?
Or is that attached to my user ID or my Time Machine when I restore?
#3 - I use iTunes - A LOT - Am I going to lose the iTunes database (all my plays, dates, ratings etc...) after reinstalling or will those be safe on my restore from my Time Machine?
I have googled reformatting iMac and read several guides but all this "GUID" stuff is above my head. I just want a clean system like it was when I got it. I use external drives for most of my main storage other than itunes music, which is backed up but remains on the internal drive.
Thank you so much for any help you may be able to give me ahead of time!

    #1 should allow that.
#2, no need to reinstall 10.6...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Or restore from the TM backup once the Drive is fixed.
#3, If the TM backup is good you should be fine.

Well first you have to figure out what is wrong with the machine and solve that problem first.
Your post is very vague on what occured, and there are many types of "crashes" it really depends upon what see on the screen and what the hardware does, we can't see it to tell you, so you have to tell us.
I suggest you run through these user tips and provide more information about your hardware.

If this is going way over your head, there are local PC/Mac techs that will assist you for a fee, Apple only does hardware repairs and is advised to use them if you discover it is, especially if under warranty/AppleCare.
Hard drive and RAM upgrades can be handled yourself or by a outside tech in many older models of Mac, but don't expect Apple to cover the new parts.

You don't need to have Lightroom 3 and 4 installed on your computer to install Lightroom 5.  Just install Lightroom 5 and input your serial number for 3 in the previous version box and your serial number for 5 in the upgrade box.
