Cannot remote log into MacBook

Hola!
So I have an iMac and a Retina Laptop both running the latest Mavericks install and both on the same wireless network. I frequently log back and forth into each of the machines in order to copy work off of them...
Today, I tried to log into my MacBook from my iMac and after typing in my credentials, the log in box does the "incorrect password shudder" for lack of a better way of stating it.
The credentials are correct...they work when I log myself out of the macbook and log into it...they work when I log in over the internet using LogMeIn....
Anyone seen this before?  Anyone have any ideas?
thanks
spark

One other thing...
If I use Connect to Server and type in the IP address, I can log in, no problem....but when I try to connect directly from the finder by clicking on my MacBook and hitting Connect Now, it won't take...

Trying to remote log into work and they require OS X v.10.7 Lion.  I have OS X 10.9.5 - same thing or how do I even know?

Thanks for the suggestions AyeSee - but I already know how to configure the mouse to perform a single task (e.g., rotating the mouse wheel = vertical scrolling OR rotating the mouse wheel = switching between desktops).  Per my original post I am wondering if there is a way to configure the mouse so that the functionality differs depending on whether I am working on desktops (rotating the mouse wheel = vertical scrolling) or in mission control (rotating the mouse wheel = switching between desktops).
For those also wanting to gain some MacBook trackpad-like functionality with their Logitech mouse when running OS X Lion (or later), as a workaround, I currently have a logitech M110 mouse configured as follows:
    > rotating the mouse wheel = vertical scrolling (equivalent to trackpad two-finger swipe up and down)
    > pessing the mouse wheel = open Mission Control (equivalent to trackpad three-finger swipe up)
    > titlting wheel left or right = switch between desktops, both when working in a given desktop or when in mission control (equivalent to track-pad three-finger swipe left or right).
Instructions for configuring a Logitech mouse are available within help in the Logitrech Contol Center (appears under "Other" section of System Preferences).

  • Cannot get logged into icloud

I cannot get logged into my icloud account.  I get an error "This AppleID is valid but is not an icloud account".  How can I resolve this ?

You are getting this message because you are trying to create an iCloud account on a PC.  You can only create iCloud account on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) running iOS 5 or higher, or on a Mac running OS X Lion (10.7.5) or higher.  After creating your account on one of these devices you will then be able to sign into the account using this ID on your PC.

  • How to remotely log into another Mac in a different state?

My Uncle owns an older Mac Pro running 10.6. He's new to Mac, so from time to time he calls me and asks me questions. I thought it might be easier to log onto his computer remotely and do what he needs to do, or show him - as he watches me - how to do things.
He's in NC and I am in FL. We tried to remotely connect earlier today, but had no luck.
All the tutorials out there say to go into System Preferences/Sharing and check both the Remote Login and Remote Management... but as I try to connect using the address it says to use, I cannot connect. I wondered if by some chance if the IP is wrong?
Can someone walk me through how to do this, and I mean very detailed instructions, cause we are both at our wits ends.
    Thanks!

Screen sharing that way only works over a local network, unless you do quite a bit of extra setup. You should use screen sharing via Messages/iChat.

  • Remote log into iMac with dead screen

I have inherited an iMac G5 run Tiger 10.4 that suffers from a graphics card failure. I've given up any attempts to repair the machine as a functional unit, but I am trying to repurpose the machine into a headless server for media and Time machine.
I would like to get some sort of VNC/Screen sharing setup working so I can remotely connect to the machine's UI. However, I don't know what any of the settings on the machine are now (i'm not even sure it will connect to my wireless network). Assuming I can get a network connection to the machine, what is the best way to log in and change the settings? Can I terminal log-in/SSH and make changes so that screen sharing will be enabled? I don't have much experience connecting to a machine without a graphical UI.
I assume the worst case I can pull the HD and connect it to another machine to change settings, then replace it in the iMac.
Any thoughts on the this matter? Thanks in advance

    Duane,
Please note it may be possible. I'm working on the issue, see this thread:

  • Spinning wheel when trying to log into Macbook Pro 17" connected to 27" thunderbolt display

I've got a 17" Macbook Pro connected to a brand new 27" Thunderbolt display.  When I attempt to log in from user screen I consistently get the spinning wheel of death and have to power down on  frequent basis.  More a nuisance than anything but with the amount of money invested on the components in front of me this seems slightly silly.  I can use this work around pretty easily, but my wife isn't real swift when it comes to these things so I'm looking for a long term fix.

    lRlevolution,
if your hard drive has failed, then no amount of resetting the SMC will fix your hard drive — you’ll need to purchase a new hard drive (or SSD), format it in Disk Utility, install it in place of the old one, and install OS X on it. (If you plan on installing it yourself, you’ll need a T6 Torx screwdriver to remove the four screws from your current hard drive and put them in your new drive.) Is there a reason to believe that there might be a motherboard issue involved?

  • Cannot insert disk into Macbook Pro

Though I was able to watch DVD's earlier this morning I tried to put a new disk into the drive and it will not even go halfway in.

Is there a disk in there already?
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the left mouse button until the disc ejects.
    2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
    3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
    4. Press COMMAND-E.
    5. If none of the above work try this:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
    /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into single-user mode by hold down ⌘ -S through the boot process. At the prompt enter
    /usr/bin/drutil eject
To restart the computer enter reboot at the prompt or shutdown
    6.  restart hold down trackpad button

  • I cannot stay logged into my MSN account with Firefox although I click the "keep me logged in" box.

I used to be able to remain logged in to my MSN account while using Mozilla Firefox. Now I have to log in every time although I click on the "keep me signed in" box. This happened after I tried to create a new e-mail account on MSN. Not life and death, but puzzling.

Did you add your Facebook account in settings?
Have you tried resetting the iPad?
Settings, general, reset.   Reset all settings.

  • I cannot remain logged into a site that uses cookies for authorization.

I have tried everything I can think of. All of my settings are set to allow cookies. LiveJournal won't let me post. Help is appreciated!

From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab.
    Click: Show Cookies
    Delete all the LiveJournal cookies.
Now empty the Safari cache either from the menu bar, Safari / Empty Cache or Option + Command + E on your keyboard.
Quit then relaunch Safari. If that didn't help, if you use an ad blocker, disable that, then try again.

  • Cannot stay logged into iCloud on Windows IE8?

When I sign in to iCloud (at iCloud.com, using Window Internet Explorer 8), I enter my Apple ID and password, and then check the box saying "keep me signed in".  Despite doing that, when I close Windows Internet Explorer, and then re-open it and return to iCloud.com, it makes me sign in again every time, even though according to the iCloud support website it should be keeping me signed in.  Does anyone know how to correct that?  Thanks.

Yes I have the same problem. Any answers yet? ELF

  • My iPad was logging me out so I have reset it - I cannot log into iCloud now and also my login for app updates defaults to an incorrect email address can anyone suggest how to re configure

My iPad was logging me out so I have reset it - it retained all apps but I cannot now log into iCloud and when downloading apps it defaults to the wrong email details so the iPad doesn't recognise it to update - can anyone suggest how to resolve this

Have you attempted to access your Apple ID through iforgot.apple.com ?
If you have access to the internet, you should be able to go through the process of resetting your Apple ID password via security questions or email.
Assuming that you use the same Apple ID for iCloud and the iTunes/App Stores, resetting your password may help you log back into iCloud and the iTunes/App Stores.

  • Cannot log into skype. I have to use a different S...

    FRUSTRATION!
That is the only way I can define my mood at this point.
Wen i try to log into skype on my Xbox one it says: This Skype account is already linked with another microsoft account.
    What can you do?
Use a different skype account? (NO I won't)
Create a new one? (How about noooo...)
Because (duh) I use a different e-mailadress for my Xbox Live account then I use for my Skype.
So I have been chatting with microsoft support for more then 2 hours. And I am this close | | trowing my Xbox One out of my fricking window and re-buying an xbox 360.
So I came up with the genious idea of changing my Xbox live e-mail adress. But that is harder then getting into the Kremlin. Because You cannot change a microsoft account into a different microsoft account (Great going Bill).
So Frustrations keep building up. It looks more like i'm in a pitt filled with snakes and crocs with no way of escaping and each tunnel of hope I find is filled with even more dangerous animals. So here I am. Whispering to the Gods for help.
Question. How can I use skype on my xbox one using the same account I use on Windows 8.1 and my mobile phone and tablet. etc. etc.

Understood. Here is how it works.
When you log into Xbox One with a Microsoft account (= Xbox Live account), this is the one that Skype will use.
If you want to log into different Microsoft account on Skype for Xbox One, you need to log into different Xbox One (= Microsoft account) account.
So, you cannot be logged into Microsoft account A on Xbox and into Microsoft account B in Skype.

  • Using a new Mini Ipad not allowing me to use Facetime as cannot log into my Apple ID. Apple ID is correct but failing IMessage and FaceTime log in. Am I missing something?

I cannot get logged into iMessage or FaceTime with my a Apple ID which has been verified and correct. Is there something I have missed at the set up?

Where are you trying to log in? You should be able to change your ID at http://appleid.apple.com - can you log in there?
Before you change your ID you should log out of the iTunes Store and on any devices which are logged into iCloud. Then once you've changed it you can log back in with the new ID. (Your iCloud synced data will disappear from the device when you do this but will reappear when you sign back in - give it time).
If you are unable to sign into http://appleid.apple.com you will need to contact Support. Go to http://iforgot.apple.com and sign in with your iCloud login. A new password will be sent to your associated email address. If this doesn't work you will have to contact Support. Go to https://getsupport.apple.com . Click' See all products and services', then 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID', then 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'. If you have any problems with that try this form: https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
