  • Cannot remove adobe reader x10.1.7?

I am trying to find the reason why my computer requires re-booting every A.M. When I do a security scan everything appears O.K. except for one item which is quarantined. After searching the add and remove in my control panel I suspect the two items adobe reader and an update which cannot be removed. X10.1.7.  Am I on the right track?

My experience has taught me that there is NOTHING that can be put on a hard drive that CANNOT be removed.
Malwarebytes makes a little app caled "FileAssassin" that runs independent of your antivirus and will remove ANYTHING you select, permissions or not, read only or not, whatever it is, if you hit it with FileAssassin, it's GONE.
Before you go that route, however....
Download and run the Adobe Cleaner to remove ALL instances of Reader
    If that fails:

  • Cannot open adobe reader from website

PDF in website will not open. Suggested solutions from website and Adobe have not corrected issue.

Accepting the EULA is not done during the installation, but when Adobe Reader is launched for the first time.  That's what you need to do (not the browser plugin, but the actual Reader program).

Last week, I downloaded an updated version of Adobe Reader. I did not select it as my Safari pdf reader. Nonetheless, it has replaced Preview as the default pdf reader in Safari. How do I get rid of Adobe Reader as the default pdf reader in Safari and replace it with Preview?

What do you have anything in your Home Library/Internet Plug-Ins Folder? Mine is empty.
Delete the AdobePDFViewer.plugin in your Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins Folder.

I cannot download adobe reader in order to download an item.  can you call me

What is your operating system & version?
Define "cannot" - what happens when you try?
Try downloading the offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

Move that plugins to the Trash.

  • Cannot uninstall Adobe Reader 7.0.8...keep getting "Error 1402" message..

Hello. I use Windows XP Home Edition. I am trying to uninstall Adobe Reader 7.0.8 so I can then install version 9, but I am not able to uninstall 7.0.8. During the uninstallation process, I get the following error message:
*****Error 1402. Could not open key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{C523F39 F-9C83-11D3-9094-00104BD0D535}\Programmable.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.*****
I went to another forum and asked for some help there...the guy there gave me some steps to follow, and I did so. Here they are:
    1. Deleted "Adobe Reader Speed Launch" shortcut from Startup folder.
    2. Deleted the Adobe folder (which contained 2 other folders: Acrobat 6.0 and Acrobat 7.0) from C:\My Computer\Local Disk\Program Files. I had to use a separate program (provided by my helper who gave me these steps to follow) called "Unlocker" to accomplish this, since, originally, when I tried to delete this Adobe folder, I would get a message saying "Cannot delete pdfshell.dll: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." Unlocker solved this problem, and was able to delete the Adobe folder.
    3. Rebooted machine
    4. Ran CCleaner's registry cleaner
    5. Rebooted machine again
    6. Tried using CCleaner's "Uninstall" utility to uninstall Adobe Reader 7.0.8. When I tried this, I got the same "Error 1402" message as listed above.
    7. Backed-up my registry
    8. Tried to just delete this particular offending key using RegEdit...but when I tried, I got a message saying this:
    *****ERROR DELETING KEY
Cannot delete Programmable: Error while deleting key.*****
I really need some assistance with this...at the moment, Adobe Reader 7.0.8 still seems to be installed on my machine (it's still listed in "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel, and it still shows up in CCleaner's Uninstall Utility)...despite the fact that, as I mentioned above, I used Unlocker to delete the Adobe folder from Program Files. Also, at this moment, no pdf files will open on my machine...so this is quite an urgent situation. Does anyone know what else I should do now? Is there something I need to do regarding the "Permissions" for this particular registry key?
    I appreciate anyone's assistance...thanks.

Hi..I went ahead and ran the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. I used it to remove "Adobe Reader 7.0.8." After doing this, I checked in "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel to make sure that AR 7.0.8 was gone, and it thankfully was. Then I deleted the WICU, ran CCleaner's registry cleaner, rebooted, and tried to install Adobe Reader 9.0. When I tried this, I got the following error message (this occurred during the time when the installer was "writing system registry values"):
    *****ADOBE READER 9 INSTALLER INFORMATION
Error 1402. Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{C523F39 F-9C83-11D3-9094-00104BD0D535}\ProgID.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.*****
What should I do now? Do I need to do something about the "permissions" for this key?
    Thanks to anyone with advice...

  • Removing Adobe Reader

I am using a PC with XP sp3.
I don't seem to be able to remove Adobe Reader 10.0.1 from my hard drive. When I try to use"MS's add/remove programs" to remove Reader, the msg I get is "feature is on a resource that is unavailable".  When I go to the actual file under Programs and try to put the Adobe file folder into the trash, the msg I get is "Cannot delete Identity-H".  (I can't find that file as a separate file in MS search.) What do I do?
I want to start over with a reinstall of v10.1.0 because I keep getting an "updating Adobe Reader" message every few days, and I sense that this too often.  Can my unremovable version of Adobe Reader have been compromised with a key logger or some virus that is sending out some of my data, rather than actually updating my installed version, as often as every few days?

Your Reader installation may be corrupted; use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459) to remove the corrupted installation.

  • I cannot download Adobe Reader

I cannot download Adobe reader ... I have tried version 8 and 10 - I get to the 'Run' screen and get a message: Only single instance of this application can run'.  I do not have any other Adobe Reader versions running or loaded on my computer.  I am running Windows XP Version 2002 Service Pack 3 - Please let me know what steps I can take to download any version of Adobe Reader.  Thank you

You may want to try the following.
Remove all traces of Reader (not only the program) from your system using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. This is no longer supported by Microsoft because it can produce problems with Win 7, but you can still download it from from places like
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
Then, download the Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
    and perform a clean install.

  • Cannot Delete Adobe Reader 9 Installer after failed download

I tried to download Adobe Reader 9 and the installation froze around 83%.  After multiple attempts I tried downloading an older version (Adobe 8) and it worked but the installation folder for Adobe 9 is still on my desktop and it will not let me delete it. I have already tried using the Windows Install cleanup tool but it did not work. Any other ideas on how I can get rid of this installation program?

Thanks.. I managed to find a way to make it work.. I had no Adobe Reader in my list of programs when I went to Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove..  I took a  chance and deleted Acrobat.com.. that allowed me to reload the latest v of Reader.  I hope it didn't mess anything else up.

I had same situation. Was able to delete by the following: (don't know why)
In Windows Explorer dragged the Adobe AIR folder from Desktop to another folder (which
removed it from the desk top display). Then just deleted it from the other folder.
    Hope it works for you.

  • Is there a bug that would keep Adobe Reader from being functional in Safari 7.0.1?

Since upgrading to OS X 10.9.1, I sometimes find that Safari cannot open a page but rather opening a black page instead. I thought I was solving the problem by removing Adobe Reader and whatever ancillary files could be found (using either App Cleaner or App Zapper)

    Back up all data.
Remove the "cleaner" apps according to the developers' instructions. Never install them, or anything like them, again.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Cannot delete Adobe Reader 11.0 folder?

While transfering adobe reader to my other HDD, I accidentally dropped the folder on my desktop. I thought nothing of this and after all this was done I attempted to delete it from my desktop and now it continues to tell me that I do not have permission. I am the only user and have administrator of course and I have checked the properties which tell me that everything has full control. I have tried to delete it while in safe mode, I removed adobe reader completely from my computer and I still cannot. The files that won't allow me to delete it are the "Identity-H" and "Identity-V" files in the CMap folder. I've been able to delete the folder from anywhere except my desktop.

If you download the offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ you can install it whereever you want.
Installed programs have hundreds of registry entries containing install locations etc.   If you move the installed programs to another location, the program most likely will not longer work.
