• ERROR:1417 ---CANNOT REMOVE OR UPDATE 7.0.8

I CANNOT REMOVE NOR UPDATE MY 7.0.8 VERSION OF ACROBAT READER. I'VE TRIED MANY FIXES TO REMEDY MY PROBLEM, WITH NO LUCK. THE ERROR MESSAGE I GET PROMPTS ME TO "CHECK WITH THE APPLICATION VENDOR TO INSURE THIS IS A VALID WINDOWS INSTALLED PATCH". PLEASE HELP ME REMOVE THIS NON-FUNCTIONING, OUTDATED VERSION WITHOUT DAMAGING OTHER PROCESSES.

Hi..I went ahead and ran the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. I used it to remove "Adobe Reader 7.0.8." After doing this, I checked in "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel to make sure that AR 7.0.8 was gone, and it thankfully was. Then I deleted the WICU, ran CCleaner's registry cleaner, rebooted, and tried to install Adobe Reader 9.0. When I tried this, I got the following error message (this occurred during the time when the installer was "writing system registry values"):
*****ADOBE READER 9 INSTALLER INFORMATION

Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.*****
What should I do now? Do I need to do something about the "permissions" for this key?
Thanks to anyone with advice...

Heyyo6789 depending upon the Adobe Creative software title installed the update mechanism in the menu bar may still be needed.
Thank you for the feedback. This behavior will likely be changed in a future version of the Creative Cloud Desktop applications. I would recommend referencing Creative Cloud Help | Creative Cloud app for desktop | Release Notes which is updated with features which have been added to the Creative Cloud Desktop application.

• Cannot Install Adobe Updates / Cannot Open Files in Photoshop from LR

Hi,
I cannot seem to update the programs that show need to be updated. My computer shows I need to update Adboe Bridge CS5, Extension Manager, Photoshop CS5 and Camera Raw, but get the following error every time: "There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later."
I figure this is part of the reason why I cannot edit a photo from Lightroom to Photoshop. When I try to edit in Photoshop, the program opens up but the image doesn't appear. When I try to open the image directly in Photoshop, I get the following error: "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw."
I assume the two issues are related, but how can I get past this if I can't update Camera Raw?
I'm running on Yosemite and have Photoshop CS5 and LR 3.
Thanks for any help!

The updater for older versions don's work well, if at all, anymore. Update the manually:
Adobe - Photoshop : For Macintosh : Adobe Photoshop 12.0.4 update for Adobe Photoshop CS5
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update
If you upgraded to Yosemite with CS5 installed, you may want to uninstall and re-install CS5 before doing the above. You can find the CS5 downloads here: Download CS5 products

• Cannot remove an update request in Mac App Store

A friend used my macbook pro to purchase an app. I no longer wanted that app and deleted it. However, the Mac App Store keeps asking me to update the app and when I click on 'update' it asks for my friend's App Store ID. I would like to remove this update request so I can get back to using update all.
Anyone know which file on my Mac holds these requests?

Any ideas on what that file is called?
Yes, it's called a pirated app. Most of the times that folks see an update for Angry Birds and an Apple ID of someone else, it means that they have a pirated app. Angry Birds is not on their Mac, but someone has cracked an app that is sold in the Mac App Store (MAS) with the MAS-receipt from the free Angry Birds app.
This is the method that I came up with last year when pirated apps first started showing up after the advent of the MAS.
Finding a pirated app -
When a stranger's Apple ID appears on your Mac in conjunction with an update for an app that you have never installed, you have a pirated app on your Mac. This pirated app has been cracked with the MAS receipt from the Angry Birds app acquired by the person whose Apple ID you see.
You may not have realized that it was a pirated app when you installed it. You may have believed that it was a trail version or a "free" version.
All MAS apps have a MAS receipt in their app bundle. Check any app acquired from the MAS. Right click on the app's icon in your Apps folder and choose Show package contents. In the Contents folder is a _MASReceipt folder and in that folder is the coded MAS receipt. It has the Apple ID of the MAS account that bought/acquired the app from the MAS. It is that receipt that the MAS uses to alert you that an app has an update. There would not be a notice of an update with someone else's Apple ID showing in the MAS on your Mac, if there was not an app with a receipt from this person's account somewhere on your Mac.
Download the free app FindAnyFile (FAF);
http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
This app is easier to use and seems to be more powerful than Spotlight. Open FAF and in the box type _MASReceipt and press Find. It should come up with a list of every app on the Mac with a MAS receipt. Compare the apps with receipts in FAF's list with your purchased apps list in the Mac App Store. The odd app out should be the pirated app.

• Cannot remove adobe reader x10.1.7?

I am trying to find the reason why my computer requires re-booting every A.M. When I do a security scan everything appears O.K. except for one item which is quarantined. After searching the add and remove in my control panel I suspect the two items adobe reader and an update which cannot be removed. X10.1.7. Am I on the right track?

My experience has taught me that there is NOTHING that can be put on a hard drive that CANNOT be removed.
Malwarebytes makes a little app caled "FileAssassin" that runs independent of your antivirus and will remove ANYTHING you select, permissions or not, read only or not, whatever it is, if you hit it with FileAssassin, it's GONE.
Before you go that route, however....
Download and run the Adobe Cleaner to remove ALL instances of Reader
If that fails:

• Help! Cannot remove or update Reader 9.3 in Windows 7

Hi,
I am running Windows 7 with Firefox 3.6 and OpenOffice 3.2 on a Lenovo laptop with 200 GB hard disk, most of which is free. I had Reader 9.3 installed, and it was running fine. I kept getting notifications from Adobe that I should perform an update. So I attempted to do so. The update crashed and returned Error 1402. So I tried to uninstall with the Windows uninstaller. The uninstaller crashed and returned Error 1402. So now I can neither fix Reader 9.3 nor get rid of it. And I cannot use it. Can anyone tell me how to get the installer/uninstaller to work, or how to force a manual uninstall?
Thanks!

By the way, I do have administrator rights.
When I mentioned "sweating blood" I was referring to "seizing ownership" of the subkeys, as detailed here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7repair/thread/71cdd66a-75ce-4e79-bace-8 9637e0dacae
Sometimes I had to go up a level or two before I could influence the subkeys. And sometimes I had to add a new key. In a few instances I had to name the key "command" or "win32" or whatever Adobe was looking for. In other instances I added a "new key" and then the subkeys that belong to the key in question appeared out of nowhere. In cases like these, I deleted my "new key" and proceeded to adjust the permissions on the subkeys. Since I was always going back to the same header keys, after a while I started adjusting the permissions on all the subkeys of the headers I was using: for example. if the header was HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe, I would adjust the permissions on all the subkeys. After each registry adjustment, I tried to install the program. I found that I was constantly being sent back to the same registry "headers", so I started to adjust the permissions on all the subkeys of these headers. I believe that this shortened the process.

• Cannot install Adobe update: no yellow bar, no "Install missing plugins"

Following advice in FAQs I went to Adobes test page: no yellow bar appeared, nor a box "Install missing plugins". Trying to install Adobe Flash 10 leads to a message to close down Firefox.

Old instructions, that "yellow bar" was used on older versions of Firefox.
1.Download the Flash setup file from here:
[http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version].
Save it to your Desktop.
2. Close Firefox using File > Exit
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed,
{XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.

• How do I remove the Adobe updater icon from the menu bar?

How can I remove the Adobe Updater icon from the menu bar? It's pixelated and looks broken. Any help is appreciated.
I found this thread, but it doesn't work. When I click on the Updater icon, then click "Open updater," it opens the Creative Cloud instead. I haven't found a way to remove the updater icon from within Creative cloud.
Remove Adobe Updater from OS X menu bar?
^^ Doesn't work
Anyone know how to remove it?
Thanks!

Found it, thanks to later posts in that thread I mentioned in the OP. Here is what they suggest (you have to use Photoshop):
1. In Photoshop, go to Help >Updates:
2. Click "Preferences" at the bottom right.
3. Uncheck the box labeled "Notify me of new updates on the menu bar." Then click "Ok."
Hope that helps anyone!

• How do I completely uninstall Adobe Updater?

Greetings.
I have been trying to completely remove Adobe Updater from my computational machine, but I'm having troubles as it seems to be stuck in there like a gadfly on a horse' arse. I have uninstalled some very, very annoying toolbars in my time, and I've removed viruses that were a lot easier to remove than this Adobe Updater thing.
What I've tried:
- Looking for a bloody uninstall-executable.
- Removing everything related to Adobe in any way from my computer.
Needless to say, it still came back from the graveyard to haunt me. SO. How do I purge this cursed software once and for all?

Not sure what you're doing, but the AAMUpdater is merely an entry in the registry. It won't go away, but you can prevent it from ever launching. There is no separate install/uninstall. It comes with every Adobe app. Trying to actually remove the files in the OOBE folder would be foolish and damage your Adobe programs...

• Remove an update for Adobe Reader

Hi everyone,
I have searched around and couldn't find an answer regarding this... I would like to remove update 11.0.10 for Adobe Reader. I need to do this in order to test some of our in-house applications.
I would like to remove the update only, not the whole Adobe Reader application since we might have to push a solution to thousands of people.
I tried multiple MSIEXEC.EXE commands to uninstall the patch but always get an error stating that this patch cannot be uninstalled. is it true? Am I forced to uninstall the whole product?
Thanks for your help

I should say so, yes. I don't think Adobe Reader does the necessary thing of keeping copies of all modules at all versions so you can roll back selectively.
You could probably slipstream patches into the original 11.0 installer to make a single install, using normal Windows Installer techniques.
