Cannot remove disabled extensions

I have a number of extensions that show in my Options/Add-Ons dialog that are disabled but I cannot remove them. They are:
ForceField Toolbar,
Java Console (several instances),
Java Quick Starter
All of these are missing the "remove" button in the dialog.
I have looked for them in the Program Files/Mozilla FireFox/PlugIns and Extensions directories bt they do not appear there.
How can I remove these extensions from FireFox?

If an extension doesn't have an uninstall button then that extension is installed globally by another program and you need to remove it via that software.

  • Cannot remove an extension

    Hi,
I am using DW CS3 and I'm trying to upgrade an extension that
I have used in Dreamweaver 8 before and I wanted to make sure I had
the CS3 version (Tecnorama's PHP date format extension). But when I
try to install it, I get a message that there is an older version,
do I want to replace it. When I say yes, I then get the error
message that I can't remove it because it is in use by another
    program.
Very frustrating! I don't know what to do.

Most likely you still have DW8 installed. If so, you will
    need to open DW8
and then access the Extension Manager .. Help > Manage
    Extensions ...
... and then uninstall that extension from there with DW8
    open. Then once it
is uninstalled ( or updated ) you can then open CS3 and do
    your install of
    this extension.
    Best Regards,

  • How can I remove a Disabled Extension not compatible with Firefox 4.0.1? I just want to remove it... I don't want to wait for a compatible update. Why can't I remove it?

When I upgraded from 3.XX to 4.0.1, it informed me that 2 extensions were not compatible and it never gave me the option to remove them. Firefox 4.0.1 disabled them and now I'm not able to remove them.
Also they were added by Acrobat Pro X (Adobe Acrobat - Create PDF 1.0) and Nokia Ovi Suite (Firefox Synchronisation Extension 7.3.4.51).
These extensions won't probably be updated unless they update the software that installed them. With this said, How can I remove the disabled extensions? Why it doesn't give me a button to remove them to start with?

I think it's not the problem of compatibility. Extensions installed into Windows registry won't have a remove button ( or it's greyed out ). For these extensions, you can have a look into these keys:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions\
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions\
If you are under a 64bit OS as I am, you may also try this key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions\
And you may find the registry entries corresponding to the extensions you want to remove. Just export them to a backup.reg, then delete these entries. Firefox will do the rest, but it seems that fx still leaves extensions.rdf untouched. You can also delete the RDF entries corresponding to those extensions inside extensions.rdf
    cf: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_add-ons#Windows_Registry_extension
BUT the Wow6432Node key wasn't mentioned in the above article
I had to search the registry to find out the entry corresponding to a Fiddler2 extension, then I found the Wow6432Node key. I also saw the Nokia Ovi Suite entry beside the Fiddler2 entry.
    Hope it helps.

  • Why does Firefox disable the Uninstall button on incompatible and disabled extensions (which should be removed)?

I guess I'm just OCD because I don't want to see a bunch of incompatible and disabled extensions on my list but I can't be the only person who would like to remove them. It seems the obvious choice ... but it is unavailable. Why?

Please don't dodge the question. People have normal adds-ons and extentions that when become incomparable are greyed out and there is no way to uninstall it. Mine is Java at this time. Mine is an extension. I haven't had this enabled since 7 came out apparently I don't need it. So I would like to save space and take the darn thing off the computer. But I can't find a way. Can you please help me? thanks

    Photoshop CC

    Hi,
Have you ever uninstalled Photoshop CC and installed Photoshop CC 2014, or uninstalled Photoshop CC 2014 then installed Photoshop CC?
If that, please re-install you uninstalled Photoshop, and remove GuideGuide from Extension Manager before uninstall.
Another option is remove extension manager database file, then launch Extension Manager to install it.
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Extension Manager CC\Configuration\DB\ExMan.db (Windows)
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Extension Manager CC/Configuration/DB/ExMan.db (MAC)
But please notice that all your previously installed extensions will not be shown in Extension Manager after you removed database file.

  • Need help removing an extension

I should like to remove an extension called Paragon Software Popup Translation 1.0. This extension does not have a remove button only an enable/disable button. I can disable the extension but I should like to remove it from the Firefox extension list without being forced to do a Reset Firefox.
I have tried to remove it manually by looking in the Profiles/Extensions directory. However, the extension is not be found there. There I only find the seven other extensions I have and that I want to keep. The Paragon Software extension is nowhere to be found. I have also looked in the Profile directory but I cannot find anything in there which looks like being connected with this extension.
Are there other places on my Mac where Firefox extensions are kept? Or do anybody know of how to get rid of pests like this.

Hello FrodeW, extensions that only have a disable button are installed by other software on your computer.
Check which software install the specific extension and disable or uninstall them from the setting of that program.
see for your mac in :
    * /Library/Application Support/<vendor>/Extensions/<appid>/
    or
    * ~/Library/Application Support/<vendor>/Extensions/<appid>/
see for more info : https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Add-ons/Installing_extensions?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Installing_extensions

  • I cannot remove the free sound recorder toolbar from firefox.

I was not smart and downloaded the free sound recorder from cnet. Now I cannot remove it. I have tried using the add/remove hardware method 3 times. I also installed malwarebytes to try and see if it caught anything and it did. I then removed the three things it found and several restarts later I am still having no luck. I am using microsoft xp and firefox 5.0. Thanks

If you select Add-ons from the Tool menu, do you see this "WiseConvert" thing as a plugin or extension? If so, you can just disable it from there...

  • How to Remove Disabled Add-ons

Working add-ons can be removed easily with a single button - whereas, disabled ones are not presented in the Add-on Manager with a means for removal.
Seems an oversight; but in any event, with nothing in the FAQs about removing disabled add-ons, I'm hoping someone will point the way to add-on handling details

Of course I tried uninstalling via the original install route in the originating program before coming here. ¡D ooh! There's no apparent effect.
    Specifics:
    * extension: Firefox '''''Synchronization''''' Extension 1.7.110.333
    * purpose: enables '''''Nokia Suite''''' to synchronize bookmarks and web feeds with Firefox
    * originator: Nokia Suite ''3.3.89''
    * Ff version: '''''12.0'''''
    * computer: ''hp pavilion notebook'' ze5200
    * OS: '''''MS Windows 7''''' ultimate SP1 fully patched
    Any clues?

  • Cannot remove older version of Apple Update to reinstall Itunes, tried control panel, no help, what do I do

Message: "Cannot remove older version of Apple Update" when trying to reinstall Itunes. Tried using add remove programs in control panel, no help. Tried installing new quicktime, same message -- what do I do to get Itunes working again on my computer, using Windows xp

I'm glad I put a smile on your face Stuff like this can drive me nuts.
As I went to bed last night, I thought the same thing as you, to try a system restore. Otherwise, to answer the rest of your question, in XP, the location of the Update is in your Program Files/Apple Software Update.
To find the hidden files that may be stopping you from disabling the updater, and doing a clean install, go to:
My Computer, and on the Menu bar, click Tools/Folder Options/View/Show Hidden Files and Folders/click Apply/OK then double click on your main drive (C:)  then Documents and Settings/your user name/Application Data/ and delete the Apple computer folder with it iTunes and Preferences.
Also in that previous views Local Settings/Application Data/Apple (Update Software)and also Apple Computer/iTunes.
Go back to Documents and Settings (again from C: drive mode) click on All Users/Application Data/Apple and if you open up Installer Cache, you will also see that it has an Apple Updater in it (unless it was uninstalled on the original uninstall). Also from that Application Data window, you will see Apple Computer Folder which has previous iTunes info that needs to be deleted. Some of these folders may be gone, but at least you can check to see, to make sure.
Here is a link from another post, to confirm or help clear up any of my paths/solutions.
When you've done all that, restart your PC, and I would run CCleaner  (the free version links are just below the Buy and Download button) just to clean things up, and try your re-install.
    Hope I didn't overwhelm you.

  • Cannot remove warning message from screen

I work remotely and use Outlook Web App to access my emails.
Everything works fine other than I always get this warning message:
which I cannot remove as the 'Continue' option is unresponsive to clicks.
Anyone have any ideas how to cure this??
    Many thanks.

The server has a self-signed certificate, which means that the people in charge of it don't know how to do their job. That's not a problem I can help you with. However, the warning dialog should not be unresponsive.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Cannot initialize Native Extension

    Hello
    i always get an
Type Error #1009 cannot access a property or method of a null object reference
It seems that my code cannot load the ANE because I cannot instatiate the extension object.
    any help?
    Thanks
    Marco

    Marco,
In the past I've had some issues with the ANE being missing.  First of all, if you haven't already:
    1) Go to project settings and check that the ANE is included in your build packaging (if you don't have build packaging in your project's options, you're making a web flash target, which does not support native extensions)
    2) Go to project settings and check that the ANE is included in your build path.
    2) Check that the platform you are targetting has it's initializer set in the extension.xml file that is used to package the ANE.  If you didn't package the ANE yourself I believe you can rename the .ane to a .zip and have a look at the configuration yourself using a zip file viewer.  If the platform is not supported, you will need to do this first.
If everything seems right you might need to build your project from scratch.  From memory, I've had things mysteriously work again after a rebuild, or after removing ANEs and reinserting them.
That's all I can think of, of the top of my head.  Hope it helps
    Cheers,
    Jarrod

  • How to replace Bing and get Google back as my default search engine? I have already changed it in preferences and disabled extensions.  Nothing is working!!

How to replace Bing and get Google back as my default search engine? I have already changed it in preferences and disabled extensions.  Nothing is working!!

You installed the "Genieo" spyware/adware. There is an uninstaller, but as the developer is not trustworthy, you shouldn't rely on it. I suggest the tedious procedure below to disable Genieo.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Applications/Genieo.app
Right-click or control-click the line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Applications/Uninstall Genieo.app
    /Library/Frameworks/GenieoExtra.framework
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.engine.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client
    /usr/lib/libgenkit.dylib
Note: Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file doesn't exist.
The following configuration file is either created or modified by the Genieo installer:
    /etc/launchd.conf
The file is unlikely to be used by anything but Genieo or something equally undesirable. Unless you know you need it, delete it in the same way as above. Otherwise, edit it to remove the line that begins as follows:
    setenv DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES
The above is not a file, but a line inside a file.
Reboot. Safari should now launch without crashing. If not, stop here and post your results.
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extension you don't recognize. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
The Genieo installer may also install the "Silverlight" web plugin from Microsoft. If you have no use for that plugin, you should remove it according to Microsoft's instructions. Don't remove it if you subscribe to "Netflix."
This procedure may leave a few files behind, but it should render Genieo permanently non-functional, as long as you never reinstall it.
