Cannot remove iTunes 10.6.3.25 from a WinXP SP3 machine

When the new upgrade installer attempts to remove my old iTunes version I get an error message that the iTunes.msi file is not a valid installation package for this product. Tried  launching the upgrade to iTunes 11.0 from both the Apple Software Update utility (iTunes.msi) and from the full iTunes.exe from the Apple website. in both cases when it's time to remove the old version I get the same error message. Anyone else facing this issue? I have a laptop running Win XP MCE with SP3 and the CD ROM drive has stopped working but I'm not sure if this is relevant to this discussion.

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

How do I remove iTunes 10.2.2.12 from Windows XP?
I get a message that iTunes.msi can not be found or is corrupted.
I want to install latest version, but can't get remove older version.

Try my script FindTracks. Select a few of the missing files to start with then run the script. Choose No at the first prompt so that you can check how it works track by track, then confirm or edit the location of the media folder where your files are. Once you are happy with how it behaves let it process larger numbers of tracks automatically.

  • How do you remove iTunes and other Apple products from my PC, manually?

    I just bought a $250 5th-gen iPod. But I can't install iTunes.
A while back, I think I just deleted the program folder or something, or maybe the the uninstaller just somehow broke on its own. In any case, the program folder is gone and the uninstaller doesn't work.
Running the iTunes installer gives me the following error:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below.
I did a search and found the iTunes.msi file in a temp folder. I selected it in the installer to try to solve the problem, but I received another error message:
The file "C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Local Settings\Temp\IXP460.TMP\iTunes.msi" is not a valid installation package for the product iTunes. Try to find the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in a folder from which you can install iTunes.
So, I uninstalled QuickTime and tried to manually remove every iTunes files and iTunes-related registry entry. No good.
When I run the iTunes installer now, it hangs\freezes when it gets to "Registering modules."
The only solution to the problem is a full manual uninstall.
I called Apple tech support and explained the problem, and they said that registry issues were a third-party problem, emailing me a tech support page I'd already read and suggesting I call Microsoft -- but oh, she said, make sure you don't tell them it's a problem with iTunes registry entries "or they'll refer you back to us."
Yes, because what the iTunes installer does to my PC is not a third-party issue.
I don't blame the tech support people, though, and I hope my post here doesn't lead to any of them being reprimanded.
Anyway, my request is simple: Someone, anyone, give me a list of every file and registry entry that Apple software adds to my computer, so I can remove it manually.

When I run the iTunes installer now, it hangs\freezes when it gets to "Registering modules."
hmmmmm. by any chance do you have SpyCatcher (or the version of GhostSurf platinum that contains SpyCatcher) on that PC?
if so, try uninstalling SpyCatcher altogether prior to the itunes install. if it goes through properly this time, launch itunes at least once prior to reinstalling SpyCatcher.

  • I cannot remove the free sound recorder toolbar from firefox.

I was not smart and downloaded the free sound recorder from cnet. Now I cannot remove it. I have tried using the add/remove hardware method 3 times. I also installed malwarebytes to try and see if it caught anything and it did. I then removed the three things it found and several restarts later I am still having no luck. I am using microsoft xp and firefox 5.0. Thanks

If you select Add-ons from the Tool menu, do you see this "WiseConvert" thing as a plugin or extension? If so, you can just disable it from there...

  • Cannot remove iTunes Match from iPhone 4S

iTunes match is working well for me, including on my iPad.
However, on my iPhone 4S it did not sync my playlists correctly so I turned it off.. now it seems stuck between on and off. On the iPad if I turn iTunes Match off, it takes a little while but eventually its clear and only local music is shown.
Right now the iPhone won't sync up complete nor will it unsync itself.
I've tried setting "use cellular data" on, been on my wifi for hours waiting, tried resetting network settings, turning phone on and off....
    Suggestions?

I think turning itunes match off while it is still trying to load something causes hiccups. So you need to start fresh again as best you can.
Here is what I did.  First I went to Settings>General>Usage, then in the storage section, I tap on Music app, then hit the edit button and then delete(This will delete locally store music so be sure you have a backup in the cloud or on your computer first).  Now I turned ON itunes match on the iPhone while connected to wifi.  Then I opened the Music app and waited for the pinwheel to go away(loading album art etc).  So at this point, there is no physical music on the iphone, however I have access to and see all of my music in itunes match available for download.  Then I went back to settings and turned OFF itunes match on the iPhone.  If this has worked correctly and everything is gone, it should say "No Content, You can download music from iTunes"  when you open the music app.  If it does not or you see a playlist or genius or anything, then there is still something left over.
From here, I chose to sync my music via itunes and leave itunes match off on the iphone.  You may want to try turning itunes match back on the iphone if thats what you are wanting.

  • HT203175 I cannot remove  iTunes Helper .exe- Bad Image warning from my PC when it opens. Can someone help a luddite?

I receive an error message each time I start my PC. I get the I Tunes Helper.exe- Bad Image message and need to click 5 times before it goes away. I was trying to sync my I Phone with OUtlook and something happened. I am not tech-savvy.

    Many thanks.
Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Mobile Device Support file there.
Let's try something relatively simple first.
Restart the PC. After you've fought your way through the error messages, go into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Mobile Device Support", and click "Repair".
Does the repair install seem to go through okay? If so, restart the PC again. Have the error messages from iTunesHelper.exe stopped?

  • Cannot open iTunes or Aperture after "Migrating" from old Mac

I migrated from an old "Black" MacBook to a new Aluminum MacBook using Migration Assistant. Now both iTunes and Aperture will not open on the new MacBook because they cannot open up their respective libraries. The following message appears:
"The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
"The Aperture Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
I did run into an issue when migrating when I used the same account name on the new computer as the old. It asked me to rename the old account which I did by appending with the number 1. The Migration Assistant put all the files into a new folder with the renamed account under "users". Not only this, all the folders and files lacked permissions for the new computer. I had to manually "Get Info" and add permissions for the new account on the new computer.

Go to /Music/ and get info on the iTunes folder.
Go to the *Ownership & Permissions* and set *You can* to *Read & Write*.
Also, click on *Apply to enclosed items*.
Do the same for the Aperature folder wherever it is located.

  • Removing iTunes supplied artist album artwork from iTunes

Recently bought a new iPhone 5S and am now using it to store my music instead of my iPod Touch.
All my music is in a self-made directory in Apple Lossless, so I manually transfer/have iTunes auto convert all the songs onto my phone.
Everything seems to be working fine, however, for the 5 or 6 songs I bought on iTunes in my life (and no longer have any of the songs), iTunes has somehow taken the album art from those old albums and applied them to my new songs via artist association, and i'm not sure how to get rid of them.
For example, say I bought Michael Jackson's Thriller album. I don't have the Thriller album on my music collection, but instead bought the Best Of CD and made rips of that. When I load the Best Of into my phone, going to the music app and browse to Michael Jackson, instead of showing no album art, it shows the art for Thriller. So somewhere iTunes is storing album art for downloaded music, and auto-associating them with the artists in general, regardless if the album is there or not...
Edit: Just to note I do not use any album art at all, so the ultimate goal is to have zero album art for anything. Also, yes, I did check individual tracks for album art, every music track on my iPhone has no embedded album art.

    sbeachi,
Welcome to the forums! I have not been able to find a way to have just the Album artwork update. You can try removing then re-adding the album/Songs through iTunes, for that is the way I was able to add artwork for my music that didn't sync correctly.
    Hope that helps,
    Weston

  • HT1668 I cannot remove the draft write mail template from the mail application screen. Save draft works but cancel does not remove the draft template. I can send email using the template but it remains on screen preventing me from accessing any mail

Still can't get rid of the template page

I am not at all sure about what you are calling a draft email template. I have never seen one in the mail app and unless this is something that you created in Pages or some other word processing program I don't know what template you are describing.
Anyway, this may work. Quit the mail app and them go back and see if the draft is still on the screen.
Quit the app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
    Or try this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons

  • Ipod 160g music library shows up when connected to itunes, but empty when disconntected from computer

At some point last night the mac i had connected to my ipod 160gb went to sleep and when it awakened, I ejected and disconnected ipod, instead of going right to the music menus, the ipod restarted, and opens up the language selection screen, as if it is empty.  There are 0 music files, 0 videos, playlists etc., actually it even says 0 KB available.
When i reconnect to my computer i have access to my ipod library on my ipod like normal.
I have tried doing the hold switch toggle and then holding menu/select until the apple icon appears, at which point it restarts, but the ipod still appears without any access to the music.
My ipod is set to sync manually, i.e. i dont have it backed up on itunes.

It is a big risk to keep your only copy of song files on an iPod.  It can become lost, broken, or in need of a Restore.  That's what your iPod probably needs now, a Restore.  There is probably data corruption on the iPod's storage.
Your computer seems to still see the song files on the iPod, so you may be able to off-load them to your computer's drive.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store.  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, add them to your current iTunes library.  Then (after confirming all of your songs are there), do a Restore on your iPod.  The Restore button is on the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes.  This will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.  You can then sync your songs back to the iPod.
Going forward, you should keep all of your songs in your iTunes library (not just on the iPod).  And then back up your iTunes data on the computer, along with your other valuable personal data, to protect against your computer failing.

  • Cannot download iTunes update 11.3.1. Currently @ 11.3.0.54

I cannot update iTunes to 11.3.1 from 11.3.0.54 on Windows 8.1 machines.  Nothing happens when I
    click Download iTunes button.

Are you referring to the Download iTunes button on the http://www.apple.com/itunes/ page:
If you don't get further than this it suggests a problem with the code that Apple use to determine whether you're running a 32- or 64-bit version of Windows.  Normally, clicking that button should take you to this screen:
which is where you actually download the iTunes installer from (note that in this case my system's been detected as 64-bit and the right installer selected).  Are you getting as far as this second page?

how do i delete photos on my iphone that have already been deleted from my windows laptop? The photos cannot be selected and removed from the iphone album.  trash can is greyed out.

You should be able to delete the photos by syncing with iTunes. Either remove the checkmark beside "Sync Photos From" on the photos page of iTunes or change the selection of photos to be synced. Each time you sync it is supposed to set the non-Camera Roll photos on the phone to match the current settings/selection in iTunes.
