Cannot remove music from iPhone

I have an iPhone 4S and want to install the most recent software upgrade (7.1.2) but do not have enough space. I went to the music tab and unchecked sync music, I get a prompt asking if I want to remove all of my music. I clicked okay and the phone syncs, but the music is not removed from my phone. Any ideas what is going on here?

Hey joe.russell,
Perfect, and thank you for the extra information. It could be that your iPhone is seeing all of your purchased music located on the cloud. Try turning off Show All Music from Settings and see if this affects what is showing on your device.

Just show music that’s been downloaded from iCloud. Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music
Please let me know,

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    What exactly is ismart.

  • How do you remove music from iPhone?

how do I remove music from my iphone as my iphone is memory is full. no capacity

You can remove individual songs  Slide your finger from left to right (or opposite) over the name of the song you want to delete. You can remove all music that way in Settings - general - usage.

  • Cannot remove music from iPad. Why?

I need to remove music from my iPad to create space to import movies. However, via iTunes/Sync even though I uncheck the Sync Music box I find that the music remains on my iPad. What am I doing wrong?

It should remove the music once you click on your phone in the left pane and go to the music tab at the top of the iTunes screen. I have tried this myself just now with my iPhone 4S. Once I deselected sync all music, the capacity bar at the bottom changed to show no music. If I had selected sync, all my music would have been removed from my phone.
Since you removed the music from directly from the phone and not iTunes, once you connect to iTunes and sync, the same music will be synced back onto the phone.
Try playing with the settings and see what you come up with. Also, try closing iTunes and restart your computer amd see if this fixes things.

  • Remove music from iPhone after enabling iCloud/match

After enabling iCloud and iTunes Match, then after having some songs downloaded on my iPhone, I want to cycle some out and pull new ones down. However, I do not see how I can remove music from my iPhone. If I delete the playlist, the entire playlist is wiped from my master iTunes library, which removes it from all devices that use iCloud/Match.
How do I selectively control what stays on my iPhone?
    Thanks,
    Derek

If that is on, I highly recommend looking at th KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4054
    Specifically:
Make sure iTunes Match is turned on.
Please see this article for information about turning on or adding a computer or device to iTunes Match.
If iTunes Match is already enabled on your computer or device, try turning iTunes Match off and then on again.
On your Computer choose Store > Turn Off iTunes Match, then Store > Turn On iTunes Match.
On your iOS device tap Settings > Music > iTunes Match Off, then Settings > Music > iTunes Match On.
And sadly, you apparently can delete a song from Match from your phone.
I am sorry, but no, you can't. If that were true, you would no longer see the song in your music library on your computer, and it would most likely be gone forever. The only way to remove an item from iTunes Match:
To delete an item from iCloud in iTunes
From a computer with iTunes Match enabled, open iTunes 10.5.1 or later on your computer. You can download the latest version of iTunes here.
Click Music on the left side of iTunes.
Select the item you would like to delete. Right-click the item and then choose Delete.
You will be asked to confirm this action.
If the item you want to delete exists in iTunes on your computer as well as in iCloud, click the checkbox to also delete the item from iCloud.
Match is a train wreck. They need to make it work simply and intuitively.
I don't disagree with you on this.

  • Cannot remove music from my iPhone?

Okay so this is getting a little bit ridiculous.
I've been trying for an hour or so to remove ALL my music from my iPhone 4S, but to no avail. I've tried unchecking everything in my iTunes library and syncing, deleting my music library and syncing, "manually managing" my itunes library then checking nothing and syncing", pretty much everything I can think of.
I am aware that I can manually remove songs one at a time from the phone itself by swiping, but I'm not really prepared to do that to 1,500 songs.
Is there anything I'm missing? It occurs to me that it should not be this hard to simply wipe all music from my device. I'm not usually inept when it comes to technology so this is really driving me up the wall. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Cannot remove profile from iPhone post update

We have encountered a problem with configuration profiles installed using the IPCU prior to either the iOS upgrade to 5.1 or the matching update to the IPCU. The situation occurs when a configuration profile was installed with the removal setting set to 'Never'. Previously this meant the only way to remove the profile was with the IPCU i.e. not by the end user. Since the updates we can no longer remove these profiles either direct from the device or via the IPCU.
I have tried another profile installed before the update which had the removal setting at 'Always' and this also cannot be removed by the IPCU. However you can remove this direct from the device ok. If you then re-install the profile using the IPCU everything behaves as expected, you can add/remove as normal from device or IPCU.
Anyone else had this problem, or are we the first to come accross it?
We need these profiles to be locked and not removable by the end user, but this level of locking is impossible to work with. At the moment it means we have to rebuild each device just to change a configuration setting

  • Cannot play music from Iphone on iTunes

    This is the setup:
I have a home PC that I use to sync / buy content on my Iphone. When I come to work, I have none of this data on the PC, but I want to play the content of my Iphone through my PC.
When I click on the iphone triangle and click music, the content is all grey and I cannot play (or double click to play).
How can I play this music on my Itunes?
    Thanks!

I've had this problem for ages. You've inspired me to find a fix and I appear to have found one.
I manually sync my iphone at home (computer A) and I wanted to play songs on Computer B at work. The songs were all greyed out on Computer B.
Now, to get around this I have selected "Manually manage music and videos" from the sync options in iTunes.
I have no other options selected for sync options as I do actually want to manually manage music rather than sync it.
Now, when I click on "Music" from within itTunes --> iPhone it is no longer greyed and is playable through Computer A and Computer B.
Think that made sense, if not let me know

  • How do I remove music from iPhone 8.2

I don't know how to remove songs from my iPhone.  When I connect my iPhone with my iMac it doesn't show any of my dPhone songs. Can someone help me manage my music on my iPhone?

When you hook it up to iTunes, click on the Music option in the sidebar, and then when the Music profile screen displays, uncheck the Sync Music option, then sync the device.

  • Remove music from iPhone, remove music from iPhone

I seem to have added too much music to my iphone. Is there a way to remove mussic from an iphone?

This is one of the problems with manually managing music. The best way to handle this type of difficulty when doing that is to create playlists to sync over rather than just  moving a song or two here and there. That or just checking off particular songs and syncing only the songs that are checked rather than the whole library. I'm guessing that is what you are talking about when you say you had to rebuild the library. Actually the library exists in iTunes, not on the phone. I'm guessing you meant you had to re-add music to the phone from the library that exists in iTunes? There are a number of different ways to manage music, however manually managing music is usually when you have a very small group of music you want to move to the phone. If you are putting a great deal of music on the phone, again I suggest the playlist option or just unchecking those songs you don't want and sync the rest.

  • I cannot sync music from iphone 4s to iCloud nor iPhone 5s either

I have a lot of music in my iPhone 4s.  iTunes only shows the buyed ones.  How can I sync music from 4s to 5s?

You don't sync from one iphone to another.
You sync both to your computer.
All of your music should be on your computer.  If it is not, then put it there.
You can then sync to any of your idevices you like.

  • Cannot remove playlist from iPhone using iTunes

I unclick a playlist in iTunes and synce my iPhone then click on sync.  iTunes shows that audio is empty while syncing but as soon as the sync is finished it shows that the playlist is still on the iPhone.  iPhone agrees.

I have had the phone for a short time and adding music is no problem but when I try to take it off I am unable to do so.

Thank you, I know that the changes have to be made in iTunes. The problems is when I connect my phone it brings me to the register you iPhone /terms window. I click on accept and hit save. It does nothing from their. It just stays on that window. It will not let me go to the general tabs like with my iPod now summmry tab nothing. That is why I am unable to remve the music from the phone or sync or update my calendar and contacts. Which is why I have been trying to get help in this fourm.
Anyother Ideas please pass my way I keep trying them all and unless I can figure it out soon I will have to take the phone to the Apple store and have a pro look at it.
    Thankyou for your help though.
