Cannot render preview for PE7 project in PE8

I've just upgraded to PE8. On opening a project originally created in PE7, I pressed ENTER to have PE8 render a preview. The rendering progress box briefly appears and playback starts, but in very bad quality and the line on top of the timeline is still red (it should be green after rendering the preview).
Any suggestions? I searched some forums but did not encounter similar issues; I did have the uncheck "Enable GPU playback" to get preview working.

We always recommend against opening a previous version project with a newer version of the program. There are almost always funky problems like this.
Double-check to make sure the Work Area Bar covers your entire project.
If that doesn't fix it, I'd very much recommend you finish your version 7 project in version 7 and begin your next project in version 8. Otherwise this -- and other problems you have not seen yet -- are pretty likely. sorry.
You can also export your close-to-finished video from version 7 (using Share/Personal Computer/AVI) and import that into your version 8 project for finishing.

  • Trouble with PE7 project in PE8

I have a project  that I originally created in PE7, however when I moved it to PE8, it does not play smooth. Most of the problem seems to be when it reaches a transition. While I have added some effects such as zooms and pans, most of the trouble seems to relate to the cross dissolves. It stretches out the video or photo clip to the right and then about half way through the clip it snaps back to the correct position. Can there be a compatibility problem bringing PE7 projects into PE8?

Generally, it's not a good idea to open a previous version's project with a newer version of the program.
Ideally, the program SHOULD be backward compatible -- but it usually isn't. Not without problems like you're experiencing.
We always recommend finishing your work in one version before you start a new project in a new version. Or, at the very least, do a Save As as soon as you open an older project and save a copy so that you can always go back to your original in an older version of the software if problems occur.

  • How can I save previews for old projects, while burning the project to DVD?

I'll admit, I haven't read the user manual cover to cover (or screen to screen for the electronic version), and haven't spent hours combing the discussions here, but I have searched for all the relevant keywords I can think of and can't find a concise answer to this question.
I get the basic idea of Vaults (I think), but haven't found much info about long term storage of projects. I'm fulltime freelance, but not super busy, and I can easily generate 100,000 images each year. I don't have the cash to be keeping all of these images in Aperture projects on external hard drives for eternity, and I'd be surprised if anyone else does. Good thing I'm not a medium format digital shooter producing 50GB each day huh?
I remember seeing a clip of a photographer 2 or 3 years ago discussing the differences between storing digital and film images. He was making the point that throwing away files you don't think you'll need again can be a mistake, citing a shot he had of Clinton and Lewinsky together, before Clinton and Lewinsky were news. "If I'd been shooting digital, that image wouldn't exist today". It was a great pic, and when that whoel scandal erupted, it made him alot of money.
So at present I'm storing every image I take in finished projects on DVD trusting that in the future I'll be looking for a shot of someone I may have shot 5, 10, 15 years ago.
I caught part of a discussion that talked about keeping the preview files for all the images (and subsequent versions) for each project. I'd love to be able to keep lo-res previews/copies of everything I've shot to date, and have them immediately accessible on my hard drive, while my full size projects are safely stored on DVD, taking up space on a bookshelf rather than on my hard drive. Loading 10 DVD's worth of projects to see what's inside them is a headache I'd like to avoid if possible, in favour of instantly checking out lo-res previews to look a shot up.
Is there an easy way to burn a completed project to DVD, but keep only the (lo res, lo size) previews on my hard drive?

quote: "Is there an easy way to burn a completed project to DVD, but keep only the (lo res, lo size) previews on my hard drive?"
    yes.
    maybe,...
    1. you might think of making DVD backups first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
    or,
    2. bring in the photographs to hard drive first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
the low rez Previews will stay in Aperture but the high quality Versions will be exported onto DVDs and gone from the hard drive (if you delete the originals).
another way would be to export small about 50-70 pixel wide high quality jpegs to a folder on your Desktop and import & keep these in Aperture Library as a reference. make metadata to show where the original Project DVDs are stored and DVD filing system used.

  • Cannot load preview for Microsoft documents in wiki

Uploading files seems to be working fine.
Wiki will show me a preview of files like pdf, image files etc but not of Microsoft related files like doc(x) and xls(x).
Before upgrading (from 2.2.2)  this worked fine.
It looks like this (it stays this way endlessly)
I hope somebody can point me in the right direction to fix this.
    Thanks!

  • Final Cut won't open for a project

I can open Final cut Pro HD But I cannot open my project After adding 10 Livetype titles. Every time I try to open the project the application crashes at 13% of reading the project. I can open other projects but not this one. The Project is only 30 minutes long. I Tried going into my library and deleting the Com apple final cut pro plist and the data folder but it did not help. I also deleted the livetype titles that I created off of my hard drive and I have have the same problem. Does anyone Know how to delete Livetype titles from a project without openng Final cut pro or how to resolve this problem. Please Help.

Should I delete all of the render files for that project. One thing that I did do, since I worked on the project from my G4 laptop on a Lacie External drive, I tried opening the project up on my g5 desktop computer where there was no render files and the project still would not open. Is there any kind of way to delete livetype titles from the project without opening it.

  • Help! Cannot render Photoshop slideshow outsourced to PE7

    Dear Pros:
I created a nice slide show in Elements Organizer that previews nicely/sharply, but when I outsource it to PE7 and integrate it into my timeline with video I cannot render it and the red line and the fuzzy quality remains. Everytime I either click on enter or render workspace from the timeline menue the playhead keeps going back automatically to a previous point before the slide show and when the playhead is on the slideshow and I clikc enter, it jumps backwards and no rendering.
    Please advise.
    Tom

You still haven't told me if you've resized your original photos to no larger than 1000x750 pixels. That's the first step.
Also, in Premiere Elements, ensure that the Work Area Bar (the light gray bar that runs along the "ticker" line on the timeline) is extended over your entire project. To set it so that it is, press the \ key to zoom out and show your entire timeline and then double-click on the ticker line along the top of the timeline.

  • IMovie for Mac: "iMovie cannot open files in the "iMovie for iOS Project" format."

    Question, asked professionally
When will iMovie for Mac be able to open iMovie for iOS projects?
    Question, asked snarkily
Any reasonable expectation that we will ever be able to edit projects--created in iMovie on our fancy new expensive phones--in iMovie on our fancy new expensive laptops?

    Frustration
Manufacturer: Apple (a multibillion dollar company)
    The year: 2015
    Hours lost: Three Weeks
Total costs for both devices: $4,000
    Background Details
I just wasted thousands of dollars on these two hardware devices by making the rookie mistake of assuming projects were compatible across iMovie applications. However, the exported .iMovieMobile project files are in an incompatible iMovie for iOS Project format that iMovie for Mac cannot import. So I am stuck with a 15 GB .iMovieMobile project file--for an hour-long+ video--that I created and I was editing on my iPhone for weeks that I can no longer edit on my iPhone due to an error, nor potentially rescue the lost hours on my Mac, the sole reason I purchased it one day ago. The reason I can no longer edit the project on the iPhone is because iMovie for iOS suddenly stopped displaying the video of the project in preview, external display, etc. The clip snapshots remain visible and the audio remains audible, but the video appears fully black. Any attempt to export the video at any resolution generates an error message. (This error applies only to this project; other projects export without issue.) I can save to and from iTunes or iCloud without issue, but import into iMovie for Mac is unavailable for this latest version. Deleting and reinstalling the app does not resolve the issue. Nothing has resolved this issue; so I purchased the Mac as a last attempt, and it appears that I will have to begin the meticulously painful process of recreating the video from scratch with all the titling, sound effects, precise edits, transitions, organization, etc. This video was to surprise my mother for her birthday with "this is your life" footage, including my late father. It may seem like a small first-world problem, but such things carry big emotional impacts. What began as such a wonderfully intuitive and joyful experience has descended into a soul-suffering nightmare of catastrophic proportions. This software grinch stole christmas.
    Likely Suspect
I believe this originated from Apple's confusingly designed iTunes client that removed videos used by iMovie for IOS during a sync, which I successfully restored back to the iPhone. This apparently resulted in iOS seeking and then claiming to find all of the videos, but somehow a bug in the coding causes the audio to play but not display video, and no way to resolve the bug from an enduser standpoint. I was hoping that iMovie for Mac would allow me a workaround, but I'll never know because the iOS and Mac formats are currently and dishearteningly incompatible.
    Suggestions
I never performed a full backup of the iPhone, but I don't believe any of the iCloud nor local backups actually backup iMovie projects themselves anyway. (That's a fail.) So one must back them up manually to iTunes or iCloud.
MANUALLY BACKUP YOUR PROJECTS DAILY, IF NOT HOURLY.
MANUALLY BACKUP YOUR PROJECTS BEFORE IMPORTING OR SYNCING FROM ITUNES.
MANUALLY BACKUP YOUR PROJECTS BEFORE IMPORTING VIDEO CREATED OUTSIDE  OF YOUR IOS DEVICE.
    Resolutions
Hope Apple fixes this problem soon? Perhaps.
Return the Mac to Apple, if they allow? Perhaps.
Someone in this community will provide a magical workaround--that I haven't already attempted? Perhaps.
As unlikely these options may be, I shudder to imagine that I may be forced to suffer no resolution and $3,000+ completely down the drain, because if iMovie for IOS worked as intended, I wouldn't have ever purchased the Mac as a last ditch effort to rescue the project. It meant that much to me to surprise my mother by attempting to retrieve this project file from oblivion--but to no avail.

I appreciate you taking the time to copy and paste boilerplate responses to increase your points in this forum, but I've already read all those support articles in depth; but you have barely read my post at all. Please don't guess a fix. Only someone with the latest versions of iMovie, iOS, iPhone, Yosemite, and MacBook Pro is qualified to troubleshoot this, because anyone would immediately see that the following option no longer exists:
Open iMovie on your Mac, and choose File > Import > iMovie for iOS Project.
Read my post before you reply: It clearly says in the title and within my post that I can neither export nor import through iTunes without receiving an error message. So your response neither solved my question nor helped me whatsoever.

  • Any solutions for lost render/preview files when opening files?s

Have any solutions been found for the intermittent lost render/preview files when opening a large file? I have Premiere CS6. A large project file that I have been working on lately opened without a hitch with previews intact ...until I bought new faster hard drives and rebuilt the computer (built with the same drive letters). I just installed the latest updates. When I now open this file, a segment of the sequence always opens without previews, unrendered, no matter how many times I rendered the file previously. I don't use 3rd party plugins. I am using the warp stabilizer. I tried all the suggestions that I have found on the forums (using a blank sequence to close and open, unchecking “write XMD…” etc.) but none work. I checked the render/preview drive, and these files are on that drive but they will no longer link to the project. It now takes a good 15 minutes to re-render every time I open.

I may have found a solution. I took out the warp stabilizer, and then added it back in on the clips in question, and then re-analysed and re-rendered. So far, so good. It seems that bringing in the warp stabilizer effect in the file into the re-built computer needed re-analysing (as I do after this 2 day exercise.)

  • Cannot open project: the folder for this project cannot be found cs4

I am using Encore CS4  and I get the error "cannot open project: the folder for this project cannot be found"
Having searched the forums I can not find a solution for when the project folder has been deleted.
Can someone tell me the solution to this issue.

If you deleted the Encore directory, you cannot fix this.  You'll have to start over.
    Encore creates this folder structure:
    Root or some other Folder
    MyProject.ncor (the Encore project FILE)
    MyProject (the Encore project directory)
Other Folders for the Encore project (e.g. Cache, Sources)
You can get the "the folder for this project cannot be found"  in various ways.
There have been two recent threads in which the user, by accident or on purpose, changed the folder location or name.  You can fix this by renaming the folder correctly or moving it back (or moving the Encore project file to the correct relative position).
Folder was renamed.  If you name the folder "MyProjectX" Instead of "MyProject," the project file "MyProject.ncor" can't find it.
Encore project file was moved - or Encore directories were moved.  If you move "MyProject.ncor" to some other directory or drive (including inside the folder "MyProject"), it can't find the directory - it is looking one directory level below where the project file is located.
If you delete the Encore project directories, the stuff that Encore uses that projects menus, motion, etc, are gone.  While many of its instructions are inside the project file itself, many are not.  Some of the deleted material might be recreated (e.g. trying to fake Encore into accepting a copy of a menu), but most cannot.

  • How does one manage these new render setting for previews?

I placed 4 HD clips from a nested into a sequence 5800 x 768 to mimic 4 side by side monitors for a multi channel video.  Each clip cut from the sequence are at 1280x720 all sitting side by side. However when I rendered the previews, they came look all squished. However when I exported the frame it looks fine in Photoshop. (I changed the uploaded image to what it looks like in Premiere in Photoshop to demonstrate the appearance in Premiere.)
I imagine that the distortion has to do with the sequence render setting which for some reason comes out to 1918 x 253...or the pixel aspect ratio? How does one manage these new render setting for previews so it looks normal in the monitor?

Either way, I thought that this format would be a great way to view on the monitor 4 channels at the same time. I may need to place them on a “normal” 1440 x 1080 sequence in a line, bringing them down to 25% scale to make it work in the end. I did just try that. I think it will work...but when I imported and nested the old file, the scratch disks changed from the original set up on a D drive back to the main hard drive so I had to change it agin. Otherwise it works fine...so I’ll go with this for now
These are the instructions I was given.I attched a screen save of the AE file they asked me to use (They must be on vacation, because I have not been able to get hold of them). I don't know After Effects very well:
“As you begin creating or adapting work for e4c, you may find an After Effects template developed for this system to be helpful. Attached you'll see a zipped file with two AE templates. There is some detailed information (below) from the artist that developed these for us. In addition, a few bits of information that might help you along are:
    ·        The "Watchout"  playback system can support WMV or a QuickTime files . We like .mov files with H.264 codec best!
    ·        The end resolution of the four screens is 5120 x 720 pixels (1280x720 each).
    ·        If works are four-channel, please provide a separate audio (aiff) file so it doesn't slow any one video down.”
    Thanks for your help!

No, Windows 10 Technical Preview is for testing and evaluation only , in addition it is not the final version of Windows and it is strongly recommended to use it for testing
    not production.

  • Render (both for preview and export) takes forever

I'm running Premiere Elements 12.0 (really 12.1) in a MacBook Pro Retina running 10.10.1 (14B25)
It has quad Core i7 each 2.7 gH,  NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB, 16 GB of ram, and a 750GB SSD disk. There are no other applications running on the computer, and there is at least 300 GB of free disk space on the SSD.
I am trying to edit HD video from my GoPro Hero 3+. I'm just loading the GoPro files using Add Media. Then I cut out boring parts, add in image stabilization and some titles, etc. The sessions typically have 6 to 8 files, each about 2GB of video. It represents 2 to 3 hours of capture. The goal is to get maybe one hour of nice video.
Previewing viewing is terrible, with video out of sync from the audio by many seconds. You can't see any movement in the video for 10 to 30 seconds. This gets better if I use the "render" button on the timeline, but this process takes 15 to 30 hours.  And the improved preview speed only stays effective for a short while, as I do edits, add effects, etc. it gets slow (aka unusable) again.
Once I've fought the program to get ready to do an export, I've got another multi-hour wait. Usually this is a bit shorter than the initial rendering, since the editing process has removed an hour or two of content.
I know, these are big input files, and the resulting movies are big (a couple of gigabytes). But this is one of the fastest and most expensive laptop computers sold in the world. I'm just using a GoPro, not some fancy Red or 4K camera.
I need to have the editing process be 3 times faster, I want it to be much better, ten times faster.
I thought that quad real core with 8 threads, 16GB of ram, and a 750GB SSD was fast.
I'd like concrete answers as to how I can get there.
Are there settings for Premiere Elements that will help? Would I be happier with Premiere Pro? Would I be happier on a Windows machine with 2 or more high end graphics cards?

thanks for the reply. I'm new to GoPro and Premiere Elements, so I don't know exactly what some of your stuff is.
The video is taken on my dirt-bike, a motorcycle going through trails, woods and rocks. Its unwatchable without stabilization.
The files are all taken as a single ride, single push of the shutter, and I go off and ride for a couple of hours. The GoPro automatically switches to a new recording file when the old one gets to 2.4 GB (which is about the maximum file size for 32 bit file formats.
I copy all of the video clips to the SSD from the GoPro. Then I load them as assetts. Since that it the only disk I have, everything is there. But an SSD should be fast enough to handle swapping, file reading and writing.  I don't think that you can get two separate SSDs in a MacBook Pro Retina. It has no optical drive (which you could replace with an SSD in older models)
I'm not against buying Pro if I have to, I'm cheap, and would rather not, but if that will make the workflow feasible, I'll cough up the money.
All of clips (everything) have "Motion" "Opacity" "Stabilizer" and "Image Control"
I actually have no clear understanding of what Motion does vs Stabilizer.
Timeline rendering takes 10+ hours. More if the Mac sleep mode sets in. I have no idea where the rendered files are. Whereever PE defailts them. Still SSD
What is "the Edit area monitor"? Do you mean the smallish video window above the timeline? Sometimes the video looks pretty good, other times the viewing of it lags 30 seconds or more behind the sound and timeline pointer.
I don't think I understand your comment about when to stabilize. I agree that I should be able to work and do edits, titles, etc. without stabilization, and then just turn it on at the end. Or maybe even render it for export and then stabilize that file. But I don't know how to do any of that.
    Thanks
    Pat

  • After upgrading to Premiere Pro CC 2014, I can't change the render preview location

Ever since I downloaded Premiere Pro CC 2014, I cannot re-route my render preview files. I have two internal hard drives and I need the files to go to my secondary one. With CC, it did this just fine, but since I've upgraded to 2014, it will not do it. I've set it the same way I did before in Preferences/Media, then set the Media Cache Files and Media Cache Database to the new hard drive.  It's eating all my hard drive space and I cannot render or export a large sequence. Is there a trick to this I'm missing that has changed?

Thanks Neil! I'm actually wondering how to change where the preview files go. I've attached two screen grabs. Right now my media cache is going to my SATA drive (my smaller of my two internal hard drives and the drive where Premiere Pro is located.) I want to re-route my render files to go to my Macintosh HD drive which is much larger and gives me more breathing room. I could do that before but since I've upgraded to 2014, even though I have it set in preferences, it STILL goes to my SATA drive. So annoying! I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if it's a bug. I'm still running Mountain Lion (getting ready to finally upgrade, I've just been needing to backup my computer), could this be the reason? Any ideas? Thanks so much for the help!

  • Preview not working properly in PE8

I have clips captured by PE as .avi and they preview fine with PE7 but with PE8 the sound seems ok but the video stops for 10 seconds then plays for .5 second and then stops again.  I just updated my video driver and that did not help (as a mater of fact now PE7 won't work) and I have Quick Time 7.6.4.  I am using XP Home, AMD 4400+ Athlon 64x2 (I plan to upgrade next year) 4GB ram and Nvidia Quadro FX3500 with plenty of free disk space.
    Bob

    I have Quick Time 7.6.4
It is normally common wisdom to update QT Player to the latest version, because PrE interfaces with it so very closely.
However, many Adobe users have been having tons of issues with QT Player 7.6.3 and especially 7.4. The last version that seemed to play nice with Adobe products was 7.5.5. There were also the ill-conceived 7.4.x versions, that also killed most things Adobe.
As a test, can you roll back to QT Player 7.5.5? I believe that Apple keeps an archive of older versions, but you may have to navigate to find it. It has worked for users with PrE, PrPro and AE, where the 7.6.x versions are killing the Adobe programs. I hope that Apple adopts a program to test QT Player on machines running Adobe programs soon.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • No render preview window??

    Hi,
Having started another project on LT, I find that after a "normal" render preview, the window no longer shows up. I haven't had this situation prior and wonder where I might find a reason for such.
    Thanks!

And you're certain that you closed the previous instance of the render preview window? If you don't, LiveType sends that window behind all others, yet will still render to it when doing a preview. The real bug is that a render preview does not bring that window back to the front. In other words, hit up the Window menu and see if that window is listed.
Or is your issue beyond that?
