Cannot reopen book after restarting computer

I have a digital e book that i have been using for the past two weeks.  This morning I had to restart my computer and I could not reopen the book.  The error message i get is "Adobe digital edition 3 has stopped working". It has worked up to this point.  I have a windows 8 computer and purchased and downloaded the book from a University bookstore for an online class.  There was no problems using the book until  this morning. I have emailed the bookstore for help, but thought I would see if anyone here could help me.

Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type this:
resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but you won't be able to unlock the Keychain. If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it. You’ll need to reset your keychain in the preferences of the Keychain Access application.

  • How do I force OSX to stop reopening applications after restart

I can't find any options to stop my mac from reopening apps after restart. I hate it so much when it gets slow, I restart it and it starts opening my browser, photoshop and everything else. Sometimes it even opens apps that I have closed before. How do I get it to stop doing this?

  • Settings are gone after restarting computer

After I'm restarting my computer my settings are gone. I'm not sure if all of them, but this is what I need to change:
    - all toolbars are enabled (in standard setting I don't have everything on all the time)
    - my start pages are not the same
    - FF behaviour after restart is not the same
    - my default download directory is not as it was before.
What is more - if I'm closing FF and then opening again without restarting my computer - everything is fine. It is just happening after I'm restarting my computer. It is like some settings are removed after restarting ...
It start happening after upgrade ...
What's more - I'm usually putting my computer in stand by or hibernate mode, so it can be caused by that. I'm restarting computer only if needed ...

This just happened to me again. And I do not understand the reply you gave me. I just want all my tabs & groups back. Can you tell me in less technical terms how to fix this?

  • Dock reset after restart computer / desktop image cannot be changed

    hi everybody!!
It is my first time in the discussion forum, so I hope I selected the right section to place my problem.
I have decided to give my old computer (Mac OS X 10.3) to a friend. I deleted the old administration account and created a new one with his name. After doing this, when I restart the computer the dock bar configuration is reset and I cannot change the image of the desktop. I change the configuration of the dock bar according to my preferences, shutdown the computer, start it again and the setting of the dock is lost again. Re the desktop image, it cannot be changed at all.
    Advices are welcome,
    Thanks

I'm not sure what's causing all this, but if you're giving the computer to somebody I would suggest erasing the hard drive then reinstalling the operating system. If you erase the hard drive with write zeros once you are taking better security measures for you in case somebody (either your friend or a future owner of the computer) decides to try to recover deleted files. It's also like doing a spring cleaning and ensuring that your friend receives the computer in the best condition possible. Of course it will also clear up the problem you are having.
Make sure you also give your friend the original discs that came with the computer as well as any discs for software (including system upgrades) that you re-install on the computer. This will make it easier for them to troubleshoot and to reinstall software should they need to at some stage, as well as being a legal requirement.

  • When I close Firefox I cannot reopen it without restarting my computer.

If I try to re-open Firefox I get the message already open close or restart your computer.

Try to Wait a bit longer before reopening Firefox to give Firefox more time to close completely.
Use "Firefox/File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar.

  • Cannot open book after upgrade to ibook3

Others seem to have this problem too. It is with one book that I'm in the middle of. Finished books seem ok. I really need to get this book back. Any help?

    Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • How do I manually restore a browsing session's tabs? Firefox did not reopen them after a computer freeze and shutdown.

Last night around 4 AM I was browsing in Firefox when my laptop suddenly froze. No mouse or ctl+alt+del responsiveness, nothing, just a frozen unresponsive screen, so after waiting a few moments in vain I forced a shutdown and restart with the power button. I've done this in the past without problems, but this time when I restarted my computer Firefox did not reopen my tabs automatically, or prompt me to restore the session. This is pretty alarming as I have plenty of websites tabbed and kept open permanently that I don't know if I will ever be able to find again. Can anyone give me help in manually restoring a previous session's tabs? I assume this information is stored somewhere on my computer, for Firefox's own use.

I suspect that Firefox doesn't store session history for private windows, but you could try rescuing all the sessionstore files in your currently active personal settings folder (also known as your Firefox profile folder) just in case.
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
That should take you to the critical folder. Try copying all sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files to a different location (e.g., Documents) where there's no danger of Firefox overwriting them.
If you check the timestamps, can you tell which one has the best chance of having your old windows and tabs? Open that one in a text editor. You may need to turn on text wrapping. If you can remember any text from the URL or title of the page you were viewing, try searching in the text to see whether you can find it. If not, the quest may be futile.

  • Microphone does not work after restarting computer

I just received the Creative Xmod soundcard yesterday after using an Icemat siberia usb headset sound card for a couple months. The sound is a lot better with the creative soundcard however, if I restart my computer and go back into ventrilo, my microphone does not work. It doesnt make any sound when I talk into it (almost as if it muted itself) but it hasnt. I check my sound settings and everything is the way it should be.....but the mic isnt producing any sound. It is not my headphones that is causing the problem because I have never had this problem with my old icemat soundcard. I am currently using :
    Sennheiser PC350 headset
    Windows XP Home Edition
    The newest version of Ventrilo

That is how I have ventrilo setup. A friend of mine said I should Mux set to Record Control, but it only gives me the option for Wave In =/

  • After restart computer went back in time 2 months. Lost everything since...

My computer became slow and unresponsive this morning to the point that I decided to just restart it. Once it came back on no longer where my background, dock nor desktop items the same. Upon further inspection, nothing is the same. Went to look at my history from Safari and the last pages it displayed are from about 2 months ago. Same with music added to iTunes. How could this happen? And what can I do to restore it. Surely my computer wouldn't just decide to jump around time. At this point I have no clue so any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    Well for starters,
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job.
    After that Repair Permissions.
No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.

  • New update never finished even after restarting computer and can't uninstall Firefox

After loading Firefox 3.6.10 and restarting the computer, I got the message: you must restart your computer in order to finish an earlier upgrade of Firefox. Do you want to restart now ? I restarted the computer a couple of time. It doesn't work. I get every time the same message. I tried to uninstall Firefox but it doesn't work either.

Try manually resetting the software update feature by deleting the files and folders shown in the "Software Update not working properly" section of this site - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update
After doing that try to re-install Firefox.

  • Firefox previously worked fine but after installing new version does not open. Opens in the same day that I install it but not after restarting computer.

I just installed the new version of firefox. My firefox worked fine with the previous version. But the new version only works on the day I install it but the next time i start my computer it does not work. It does not open after clicking the icon. I even uninstalled it and then reinstalled it but again the same thing happened. I have no idea about plug ins etc. but I did not install any new ones.

This is a very interesting issue. Let's start with trying [[safe mode]], [[managing profiles|new profile]], and [http://firefox.com/all-older.html installing an older version] - if one of these works, please don't do the rest and reply here.

  • I'm "frozen" even after restarting computer?

Working on imovie & have about 32 min of material. Project has mainly stills, small amount of video, but lots of titles, voiceovers,  and cutaways. Accidentally placed a caption on a piece of video, and went under Edit and chose UNDO. The program was frustrated. It was no longer showing all my video on the screen! I quit IMovie the correct way, and even restarted the computer. ALL I can do is select from the Menu. When I did, I chose "play from beginning" and it played fine, although a couple of cutaways were deleted which I can replace. What concerns me is I have no ability to scroll, no ability to "choose" anything whatsoever except items from the Menu that are not grayed out. I am relieved the mamouth work I have done is not "lost" but I am in the middle of this project and scared something is amiss as my deadlines approach. Any ideas???????? BTW I have an Apple because I am NOT techincally savvy so be very basic and very step by step please

  • Doesn't load video after restarting computer or reinstalling iTunes

The first time I installed iTunes onto my computer, I had no problems uploading videos onto my iPod after converting them with Videora. But after I upgraded my computer by installing two new hard drives and reinstalling Windows XP - basically wiping the whole computer clean - I'm not able to upload any videos.
Plus, the podcasts I downloaded previously before the upgrade appear when I thought I deleted them. I tried adding the a video file on the library, but the file would not update.
Is there a way to delete podcasts and the whole content of the iPod?
I would greatly appreciate your help.
      Windows XP Pro

I tried resolving the problem by restoring my iPod video. The process did not run into any errors, but now music and videos can't update. The library recognizes the files, but doesn't update or transfer the files onto the iPod. However, it has no problems optimizing photos.
    Please help!
