Cannot reply to text messages from certain contacts after iOS5 upgrade. Anyone able to help?

I upgraded to iOS5 on my iPhone 4. Since the upgrade, I have not been able to send text messages to certain contacts, I receive messages from them ok, but when I reply, it is unable to send. Any help appreciated - thanks!

Apple offers a ridiculous "solution" for a problem they created.
I recently switched from iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S5. It became clear shortly after activation that I was not receiving texts from other iPhone users.
After a quick search it became clear that the issue was with iMessage. That is, otheriPhone users were sending me texts via iMessage. While this problem appears to be widespread and my search revealed a class action lawsuit against Apple for this issue, there were no viable solutions.
In a nutshell, Apple support told me the ONLY fixes to this issues were to 1. Have all of my contacts delete our text thread and 2. Wait 45 days for iMessage to expire. This is outrageous and not a solution at all.

Why can't I receive text messages from certain phone numbers?

I cannot receive a text message from one particular number. We have both checked our phones to make sure we had not blocked each other, which we didn't. She also is a verizon customer but has an android while I have the iphone. She can receive my texts but I cannot receive her reply.

Hi Coggin. Sounds like you and your friend started in the right direction to find out why her messages aren't getting to you. Budone has a great suggestion to make sure she doesn't have your number stored with a 1 in front. That can actually cause the Android phone to have trouble sending the message to your number correctly. Since you are able to send with everyone including her and she is having trouble sending to you, that tells me it's more likely something we need to look at on her end. Is she getting any error message? Are you the only one she has trouble sending to? Has she ever been able to send you a text before? If she has, when's the last time it worked? Is she using any third party messaging applications from the market? I know that's a lot of questions, but they'll help me get you up and running with the answers.

Is there a way to bar text messages from certain phone numbers?

I keep getting junk text messages and would like the ability to treate text messages from certain numbers as junk. I think this is an increasing issue and it would be great if messages could bar the SMS or move them to a junk folder like email. It would also be useful if this could be linked to iCloud and the barred list shared amoungst users.
Does any know if this functionality exists already?

The only way SMS's can be blocked is through your carrier, there is no other way. So, contact your carrier to see if they offer SMS blocking.
Note: In the US, SPAM SMS's are illegal.

Double click the home button and swipe up the messages app to stop it, then open the app again. This pretty much completely stops the process and freshly opens it again, resolving problems at times. I have had this happen before as well on my iPad, I get a banner, check messages, and nothing new is there.
If that doesn't work, close the app like suggested above, but then restart the phone by holding down the home and lock button for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears.

click your phone app, tap on contacts, choose the contact you want to block, scroll down and click "block this caller"

Since updating to ios7, i'm not receiving texts messages from certain people. Help!

I have an iphone 4s and I recently updated to ios7. I've noticed that I can't receive text messages from certain people. I went into settings>messages and made sure that imessage was turned on. I noticed that directly under that was "waiting for activation". I clicked on "use your apple ID for messages" then logged in......it responded with "please check your network connections". That's confusing because I have full bars. Is there something that I'm missing

Yes, your iMessage is not activated yet. Turn it off, wait a short period and turn it back on. You should wait 24 hours before getting overly concerned about it still waiting for activation. Check this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4268

Cannot recieve text messages from Metro PCS Blackberry! can anyone help me!

i just got my iphone 3GS today. I can recieve text messages from other att customers and t-mobile customers. My sister is with Metro PCS. She has a blackberry. i cannot recieve test messages from her! Does anyone have any suggestions? I dont know what OS the phone is. Its a 16GB 3GS phone.

Example I will text a friend...she will not see my text but the reply comes to both of us. It seems to be random which ones. Any ideas how to correct this

Yup, get your own AppleID.
The messages that are being sent to both phones are technically not text, they are Apple's iMessage. They use the data part, not the texting part. So if you have an iPad or a Mac computer, you can send/receive the iMessages there too.

Received text message from 1000000000, contact lis...

I received the text message from somewhere using the name in my contact list. The content in message is 13235682605. I googled and found many people recieved text message or call from this number (1000000000) to their landline, but I haven't found anyone said about using name from own contact list. I use 5800xm US version, and recent update firmware. When I click on option>message detail; here is what I found;
From: Name in my contact list <1000000000>
Can anyone tell me what happened? Has my phone been hacked ; virus or mulware? Help, please.

Are you with AT&T? When someone calls you chooses to page you, you get an SMS from that 1000000000 number. In my case the dumb number translates to "Check Bill Balance" which is really odd & threw me off, but it's harmless. Just see the content of the message and you should have a callback number.
I wonder if the random "from" name is a firmware bug? I've seen this this v20 and v21 firmware.

Cannot reply to text messages

Hello All,
So I bought my wife an Apple watch sport and she loves it except for one thing. When I send her an iMessage she can reply from the watch but if she receives a text message (from her sister or another non-iphone user) then either she doesn’t get the notification on the watch or she gets the notification but no option to reply.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

try turning imessage off on your iphone. wait 30 seconds then turn it back on. that may help

Cannot restore from back-up after iOS5 upgrade

First try to restore after upgrade (original uppgrade process) iTunes said last available backup was time-stamped 11.34 but when chosen it was not accessible due to error 32 Backup missing.
Trying to reset the unit to gain access to older backups iTunes claims my password for the backup is incorrect even though I know it's correct, thus I cannot resore after iOS5 upgrade.
Looking in the folder (win XP machine) where the back-ups are stored it seems like there are no older backup available and my whole pic and vid library is gone! 2.5 yrs of images of my children!!!
What to do?

Sounds similar to my issue, I know my password is correct, even changed password in hopes that perhaps I was making a mistake, yet I wasn't. I backed up all my pix on an alternate computer, but my issue was that I used the voice memo recorder to record songs on the fly when I'm not at home, or just too lazy to hook up my studio gear. . . All that was backed up. . . yet, I'm told I'm entering the wrong password, I know it's not, but I guess I don't know how to type. . . I haven't searched for backup files in any location, other than looking to see if my pix were backing up as it quit syncing pix a couple months ago. No pix were backed up, so I plugged into a different computer, and that pc took em just fine.

I keep getting a seperate blank text from a contact when a different contact sends me a text.

Are you closing down the Messages App often?
Whenever you reopen it, the blank conversations saved in your scroll pop open at the top.
