Cannot reposition song start border back to 1 1 1 1.

Hello,
I recently moved the song start border of a track I was working on to -8 1 1 1 in order to add a small intro(because automation was not moving correctly with the regions). Moving the song start border cause automation to not work at all on most of my tracks. Now, when I try to move the song start border back to 1 1 1 1, it won't budge. Any ideas on how to get it back to 1 1 1 1?

This problem isn't specific to working on the MacBooks. AFAICT it's simply a LP7 thing. Sorry to hear you ran into this.
I'm gonna outline a fix, or maybe I should say "potential" fix because without actually seeing your sequence this may or may not work...
The following procedure describes a scenario in which music doesn't start before bar 1 1 1 1. Adjust all references to "1 1 1 1" accordingly if your music starts in the negative bar numbers.
What this procedure does is moves all data out of the negative bar domain, clears any automation that might have existed before bar 1, and then puts the sequence back together again.
1) Set your left locator to -9 1 1 1
2) Set the right locator to 1 1 1 1.
3) Make sure your global tracks are visible
4) Turn Cycle ON and select ALL (cmd-A)
5) Arr. Window > Region > Cut/Insert Time > Insert Time & Move by Locators
6) Now select any track that contains automation. If one doesn't exist, make automation visible and create a single volume node
7) Use a key command to invoke "Automation Event Edit..."
8) Click on the tiny box in the ULH corner of the auto. event editor display and it will now show a list of the (normally hidden) automation tracks in the list.
9) Hit CMD-1 to open a new Arrange window.
10) Examine all of the tracks in there and see if any start before bar 1. If so, set the SPL to 1 1 1 1, select ALL (cmd-A), and use the scissor tool to snip all of those automation tracks at 1 1 1 1.
11) Delete all automation regions (now snipped and separated) which may exist before bar 1 1 1 1
12) Close the automation arrange window and the auto. event display.
13) In the main Arr. window, set the L locator to the first visible bar # and the right locator to bar 1 1 1 1
14) With Cycle ON, select ALL again and use Arr. > Region > Cut/Insert > Snip to cut away everything from bar -9 1 1 1   to  1 1 1 1
15) Move the song start to 1 1 1 1 again.
See if your song plays.

  • When plugged into computer a song started skipping, pressed pause but ipod sounds makes a clicking sound. Eventually goes to black screen with red cross. Cannot reset it and doesn't register on my computer.

I had my iPod plugged into my computer and was playing the songs from there. One song started skipping so I pressed the pause button, the ipod kept making a clicking sound like it was still struggling to play the song, eventually went to a black screen with a red cross with apple.com/support/ipod underneath. Have tried to reset it but does not work, comes up with apple logo and immediately makes the clicking sound and then crashes.
Is there anyway I can get my music and photos off?? I just got a new computer and had lost everything on my old one so only have the songs and photos on my ipod, desperately want to get them on to my computer.

You may have damaged the HDD which is located in that spot. I would take it in for service.

  • Uploading to online data storage: Now cannot download songs into iTunes

    Hello all.
I am not seeing this one on any FAQs, knowledge bases, or discussion boards yet:
I am doing my initial upload of files to SugarSync, a highly-recommended online data storage service. Since I started, I cannot download songs into iTunes, even from the iTunes Store.
On any new downloads from the iTunes Store, the song DOES appear in the Music library view but immediately after completing the download it shows the exclamation point warning that the file is not in its location. The new folders get created properly within the iTunes Music folder but the subfolder where the song should be is empty. Each time I had to write iTunes Support to get them to make the files available.
I can still add files manually, no problem. E.g., I can add *.mp3 or *.wav files or folders, I can convert them to AAC, etc. The glitch seems to occur only when automated loads into iTunes are operating.
As a test, I downloaded a song from Amazon. Here the problem was different but I could work around it manually. Normally the Amazon process loads songs automatically into iTunes, too. Here again, the download did create the proper folder in the iTunes Music folder, as it should, but this time the symptoms were reversed:
    (a) the mp3 file WAS in its folder as it should be (w/the iTunes DL, the file was NOT there)
    (b) the song did NOT appear in the iTunes Music view (w/the iTunes DL, the song DID appear)
    (c) I was able to browse to the file and tell it manually to load into iTunes (w/iTunes I had to write Support and wait a day).
(I wonder what's the cause of the differences between the two cases.)
Strictly speaking, I can't PROVE the problem has anything to do with SugarSync (which otherwise seems good so far), but the DL problem started as soon as I started using it. Something in the SugarSync upload or file-monitoring process, or an odd thin gin iTunes, seems to be preventing automated, direct loads into iTunes. And since the data service runs in background, so it can monitor file changes, that might mean I can't buy music anymore! Obviously that would be a dealbreaker with SS. (I have contacted SS on this but they've not had fair chance to reply yet.)
    1) Anyone else have this problem?
    2) Is this permanent or just temporary while I am doing the initial upload?
    3) Anyone know a solution?
(FYI, I am a highly-experienced user and otherwise quite handy with iTunes files, library moves, and backups. My library is entirely consolidated and all AAC.)
    Thanks.
(Oh, and this occurred in both iTunes 8 and the new iTunes 9, so it seems unrelated to the upgrade this week.)

UPDATE 1. CHANGING BROWSER HELPED -- OR DID IT?
I called Apple iTunes Support, who said the problem is new to them. The technician's hypothesis was that something, perhaps browser-related, was interfering with the initial creation of a temporary file (which should go to the Recycle Bin) that instead causes the completed file to go to there.
He noted that iTunes, though not going through one's browser onscreen, does use settings within one's default browser. I use Mozilla Firefox, so we switched to IE as the default browser, restarted iTunes, and the song downloaded with no problem! Then I switched back to Mozilla, restarted iTunes, and it worked AGAIN with no problem!
(Dutifully I advised SugarSync, which is still investigating.)
    UPDATE 2: ARTIST NAME CHANGE - SOME FILES GOT MIS-MOVED / MIS-CHANGED
Definitely something still wrong. This time some pre-existing song entries (not new downloads) lost their connection to their source file.
In iTunes, which manages folder names for artists and albums automatically, I corrected the spelling for an Artist, so immediately iTunes renamed the folder, and automatically SugarSync noted the change to be uploaded. While the changed folder name and all the songs within were still uploading to SS, in iTunes I saw exclamation points come up -- but only for some of them. Most files got moved or changed correctly, but several lost connection to their file (i.e., the file was removed for the original misnamed folder but never moved into the correctly-named folder). Weird.
Worse, in only some of those cases did I find the missing *.m4a file in the Recycle bin. (I had to retrieve old, original *.mp3 versions from another folder and re-import each into iTunes manually.) I've never seen iTunes have a problem managing an Artist rename until I started using the live SS process.
(I've reported this to SS and asked if there is a way to disable temporarily SS to see if that's the problem.)
[Note: I am willing to try downloads again but I am wary of trying to rename entire Artists (Folder) again. That was a lot of work.]

UPDATE 3: SERIES OF TESTS - 1 FAILURE USING iTUNES
Still problem occurs, but not always. Today, I rebooted PC. I tried CD, iTunes, & Amazon. I varied having the browser open when using iTunes.
Here are the results of a series of attempts to download songs. "FAIL" means the file did not load properly into iTunes or loaded but lost its connection (exclamation point warning).
    # Source Mozilla #Songs Result
    1 CD Closed 1 OK
    2 iTunes Closed 1 OK
    3 Amazon Open 2 OK
    4 iTunes Open 1 FAIL
    5 Amazon Open 1 OK
    6 iTunes Closed 1 OK
    7 Amazon Open 2 OK
    8 iTunes Open 2 OK
(I reported this to SS. Hoping they'll test and find the problem.)

  • I have had to reset my laptop to factory settings and reinstall iTunes. Now i cannot drag songs or apps from my itunes to my iPhone. Any ideas?

    Hi All,
I have had to reset my laptop to factory settings and reinstall iTunes. I backed up all my songs and apps and have now put all songs back in to iTunes. However, now i cannot drag songs or apps from my iTunes to my iPhone.
It only gives me the 'no entry' style icon when i drag it across rather than the 'plus' icon to add items to the iPhone.
Any ideas how to get round this or will i have to clear the phone and start again?
Any help would be very appreciated.

iTunes has taken my money but no song has been downloaded onto my ipod touch or computer, How do I get my song or money back?

    Please help!

    Starting at the end:
    - When the movie or tv show does transfer onto your iphone/ipod touch you will be able to see it in the expanded view of your device in the "DEVICES" section.
    - If the files are not on your device, then:
-- confirm you have SD or HD-SD video. HD-only content will not play and probably will not even sync. iTunes seems to reliably have SD versions with their HD distributions so this should not be an issue
-- confirm you are synch-ing the content to the ipod device by browsing the DEVICE view's Movie or TV Show tabs to confirm the movie or episode is 'checked'
    - If the files are on the iPod and you cannot find them, check your Settings: General for Restrictions.  If you restrict, for example the movies to "G" rating. PG and higher movies will sync but you will not be able to find them on the iPod!

  • 5 minutes to import a song starting with mid iTunes 7.x releases

Sometime around iTunes 7.5 or 7.6, my imports began to be excruiciatingly slow. iTunes simply stopped responding, as if it were frozen. These freeze periods typically last about 3 minutes. During these periods, CPU usage is between 75 and 100%, and RAM for the iTunes process runs at about 250 MB. When iTunes is responding normally CPU usage is low and RAM usage about 125 MB. I am running the latest version of iTunes --- 8.0.1.11.
I have no problems burning CDs, only importing them and doing some other routine file maintenancem, which I will describe later.
When importing to Windows Media Library, there is no degradation in performance. Imports are quick and run at about a 30x rate with no pauses between tracks. With iTunes, I click import and there is a 2-3 minute delay, the import to the first song starts, the drive starts spinning slowly, maybe gets up to 2x then stalls again at the end of the track. Again, another 2-3 minute wait period before the drive becomes active again. When iTunes is frozen, I cannot even minimize the application.
Some other information that may or may not be helpful:
---I have a very large library...about 41,000 items (190GB). However, when this problem started the library was still very large...about 35,000 items (160GB).
---Occassionally I have found bizarre "workarounds". In the last release of iTunes (8.0) for example, I accidentally found if I right clicked on the iTunes store link in the left pane during an import, it would generate some sort of interupt and the import would start to fly with no pauses between tracks. Sadly, this weird little glitch is now gone in 8.0.1.
---There are other performance problems that crop up when editing song info in the list (by the way, I only use list mode). Renaming songs can generate up to a 1 minute freeze-up. Deleting songs can generate an even longer freeze-up of about 2 minutes. If I open the songs in "GET INFO" mode though and advance forward and backward through the list, I can work around the file maintenance issues (though not the deleting issue).
---I have verified my registry filter settings are as Apple recommends.
---I have disabled the Bonjour service, to no avail.
---Since this happened long ago, I cannot be sure, but it's possible the problems started occuring when I installed the Samsung SH-S203N drives. Possibly some compatibility problem with the SATA controller and iTunes? The drive that originally came with the computer had no such problems....but that was running an early version of iTunes 7. So I'm not really sure if this is an iTunes or a Samsung related problem. But again...the problems are NOT limited to importing CDs only.
That's all I have. Any help would be appreciated. As a music management tool, I think iTunes is the best, but I'm at the end of my rope with these performance problems.

I hate to say that I have a worse situation than you do! I've got iTunes 8.0.1.11 on Windows XP Service Pack 3. It's fine as a playback station, but it freezes the computer when trying to import from CDs. It does this even when it's the only application running after a fresh reboot.
So to get music into iTunes on this desktop machine, I must first import on my MacBook Pro at home, then transfer to a memory stick and import folders from the memory stick. This actually takes less time than ripping with Windows Media Player, typing in identifying text for each track, and waiting for iTunes to convert the Windows audio files to AIFF or whatever.
Also, iTunes on Windows has no provision to allow a user to insert the accent marks in foreign languages. It's easy on the Mac, impossible in Windows. Why?
    Why? Why?
I suspect there are device driver problems Apple doesn't want to invest in solving. iTunes will PLAY CDs on my drive. It just won't import them.

  • Cannot download (song name) because not enough access priveleges.

I am new to this forum desperate for answers to figure out what the error message means Cannot download (song name) because you do not have enough access priveleges. Please check that the network connection is active and try again.
I have been onto the itunes help people and they weren't particularly helpful, then my friend suggested to google the error message and a ton of messages came up including this forum. Someone had posted that you have to check that you have read and write priveleges for your music folder. It said in finder right click and then click get info and click something else and make sure its set except i dont know what "finder" is and whereever i rightclicked and got get info it was for a song title not for a folder.
I am using the latest version of itunes and windows XP. I am a reasonably new user to itunes. I have already turned off the firewall which was what the itunes help people suggested and it did nothing.
    Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    HI katrina
thankyou for replying i went to the folder and did as you said and unclicked "read only" then i clicked apply. I went back into itunes which is still throwing out the same error message on some songs but not all of them and tried to download the ones that had been rejected by the error message but unfortunately the error is still occuring.
Any other ideas? I have asked everyone i can think of about this.
I am wondering if it has something to do with this administrator stuff? I am currently a computer administrator on windows XP anyway but i read in the help section if you hold shift and right click then you can choose run as except i do not have a password for my account normally and there is the option of run as "administrator" but it wants a password which i do not have. My father in law made this computer and i have also asked him although he knows nothing about itunes as he has never used it i am sure it has something to do with windows not the itunes program i just dont know what.
I could always be wrong on that too! the other idea someone had was to uninstall and reinstall the program which is a bit of a pain and it may not solve the issue.
any more ideas on this greatly appreciated.

  • Imovie cannot find songs in itunes

Imovie cannot find songs in itunes

You need to create a play list of songs that you would use for movies - mine is called Music for Movies.  Then when you click on the music icon (the first box in the line of 5 in the grey bar across the lower third of the screen) and a drop down menu will appear showing all your play lists.  Then simply drag and drop, but make sure that you hover over the video clip that you want to add the music to.  If you don't the music will be added to the start of your presentation.  You can always move the position afterwards. NOTE - if you want to add to your play list do it before you start your video editing as the list does not always update when I Movie.

  • Using ipod from windows to mac - cannot copy songs to mac

I was using my ipod on a Windows XP system. I now have a Mac Pro. It connects to the Mac just fine and I can play the ipod with iTunes no problem. I have a handful of songs that are on the ipod only and not on the PC or Mac. I cannot get them to copy back to either machine. Why?

iTunes doesn't allow that - music that's in there as music that plays on the iPod does not transfer to a computer. (This is probably because RIAA and Diamond got in a fight years ago over the potential for people to use a Rio to share MP3s - sounds kind of dumb now, when we all have DVDR drives, doesn't it?)
If the files are from the iTunes store you should be able to retrieve them from there onto an authorized computer.

  • Songs start synch then error message

A while ago I left my ipod charging via firewire, as I always did. When I went to use it the screen was totally blank all dead. Recently I tried a new usb cable and it charged fine and is working again. The problem is when I try to synch songs to it the synch will begin and songs start to get added then after a short time it stops with an error message along the lines of, 'error disk not readable/writeable'. If I hit 'ok' then select 'update ipod' from the edit dropdown menu in iTunes to start the synch again, it starts up no problem. The rest of the songs start to synch but only for 10-50 seconds at a time before the same message comes up again.
I restored the ipod but still the same problem. The same thing also happens when I try to drag files to the ipod to store them on the hard disk. They start copying then after a while they meassage appears and the copy stops.
Does this seem like a scratch on the hard disk itself causing the error to happen when it gets to that part of the disk or could it be software related?
    Thanks for any help

Well, I know my operating system is up to date. I know iTunes is up to date. I know iPod Updater is up to date.
I don't think it's a damaged music file, because it doesn't hang on one certain song. It manages to update a few, then I get the error, if I try and update again, it does a few more songs then I get the error again. I've updated dozens of times with the same selection of songs and I've never had a problem.
I tried resetting the iPod. I tried restoring it.
    Still hasn't helped.
Someone suggested using fsck from my terminal, but it came back saying everything appeared to be okay. But, my songs are all on my external hard drive, does that make a difference?
It's never seemed to matter before.
I don't know what else to try.
I don't think it's a problem with the iPod itself. My husband's iPod is doing the same thing, which makes me wonder if it isn't my computer, or perhaps a problem with iTunes or the iPod Updater.
I've tried using a different cable, and different ports, but I still have the same problem.
    Any ideas?

  • Can't Change Song Start in Logic

    Hello,
I tried to insert an audio file into Logic and it wouldn't let me place it at 1 1 1 1 for some reason, and it pushed my song's start location to -3 1 1 1. I tried to drag that slider back to 0 1 1 1 (where I want it), but it won't budge. I can move the song start box backward (further into the negatives), but not forward (towards 0 1 1 1 ), which is really annoying.
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks,
    Connor
P.S. There are no regions or any data until 1 1 1 1.

I have had this happen on the odd occasion and cant really tell why.. one thing to do is open the Audio region in the Sample Editor and check where the anchors are. Sometimes a region gets virtually edited and you think it is a certain size but in fact it is longer.
There is a great command in the Audio Window called "optimize file" which basically chops off and rationalises the original audio to fit what ever virtual edit you made... this may or may not affect your particular situation.
By way of anecdote, it is really important to optimise all the files when you are going to export them via OMF for a pro tools session, say for mixing. Sometimes you think you have all your audio files neatly lined up at bar in the Arrange window correct and present for inspection, only to find that when you export them, none of the files are in time because their real length is different. ( You can check this in the Sample Edit window where the anchors of the regions indicating their real length are easy to see)
