Cannot reset Firefox.

When I start Firefox, it comes up with Yahoo, NOT with the Firefox default. If I try to reset Firefox, I get the "Well this is embarassing" response, and cannot reset. I have gone to the Control Panel and deleted Firefox, and then downloaded and re-installed FIrefox from the Mozilla Foundation site, and still the problem persists. I cannot get rid of Yahoo.
As an aside note, Chrome is working OK. When I start up Chrome, I automatically open four tabs. From time to time, Chrome opens a fourth tab ... and it is Yahoo. I can go to Settings and delete the fourth tab, and everything is OK for a while, but eventually the fifth tab pops up again, and I have to delete it again. Don't know if these are related problems, but I don't believe in coincidence.
I use WebRoot security, and have scanned my PC and removed any and all threats. As far as WebRoot is concerned, my PC is clean.

You can check for recently installed suspicious or unknown extensions.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

• I had to reset Firefox and now cannot find the calendar, how do I get it back?

I was removing files associated with web.longfintuna.com from my PC. I then reset Firefox. When I open Firefox, all my email, bookmarks.etc. are there. However I cannot find the calendar. I had it before and now cannot locate it.

When you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved to the desktop (Old Firefox Data).
You will lose extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you've made.
It is possible to recover more data from the old profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.
Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow Update button or a red Update now button, please update these immediately.
To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

• Firefox not responding, seems like other browser is hijacking inquiry, will not let me reset, states cannot reset because one or more windows are open

when i type in a search, firefox says it's not responding. Although firefox still showing not responding I am taken to websites that I did not request. I tried to reset firefox but it said there is a problem because one or more windows tabs are open even though they are not.
What is cloudnet? just one of the items that pops up on the bottom right of the screen during my search

Getting redirected to unwanted websites can be caused by an add-on, or by external malware, or by a change to your connection settings.
(1) Check Extensions
(A) In Firefox:
Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable. Or if it's clearly crap, remove.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
(B) In the Windows Control Panel
If there is no remove button on the Add-ons page, typically the extension was installed externally and can be removed through the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program.
If you click the "Installed on" column heading to group the entries by date, you may find some undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some free software. Take out as much trash as possible.
(2) Malware scans
Our support article lists free tools other Firefox users have found helpful: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. If you notice a pattern of search engine result links being diverted to unrelated pages, this can be a stubborn infection involving a rootkit, so try the TDSS Killer first.
(3) Connection settings
Normally Firefox piggybacks on your IE connection settings. You can change that (or malware might have changed it). To view and modify:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button
Change to "No proxy" and see whether that makes any difference.

• VenteeRo infection cannot be removed by resetting Firefox.

Firefox is infected with venteerRO.
This causes popups to an Arabic site www.arabyonline.com and puts venteerRo as the main search engine. Resetting Firefox helps for about 5 minutes.
It also tries to change my homepage but other software protects this.
How do I remove this problem disease?

If new profiles become infected, there probably is malware outside of Firefox that is changing your browser settings, or at least there is an externally installed add-on.
Could you try the tools in this article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

• I cannot right click without the browser freezing for at least 3-5 seconds. I disabled add-ons and reset firefox - same issue.

I can't right click anywhere in the browser without the browser freezing for at least 3-5 seconds.
I disabled all the add-ons.
I reset firefox.
issue is still there.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

• Trying to reset firefox to original default but cannot find the firefox button to start process

What kind of problems do you have that you want to reset Firefox?
When you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved to the desktop to an "Old Firefox Data" folder.
Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.

• After resetting firefox, I can no longer search from the address bar

Like the title says I can't search from the address bar "awesome bar" anymore. I just get a 404 error when I try. Searching just lists tons of people getting the "just update keyword.url" answer that's no longer valid. And hasn't been for several years.
I got a browser hijack somewhere. Not sure where, and nothing was installed on my computer so I reset firefox and lost all my search engines. IE was fixed with an uninstall/reinstall. Chrome hates my face and no longer runs. (And google's help is... well if I wanted to be insulted...) I've reinstalled several times. No dice. I've now reset firefox three times. It's just not working. I've ran several virus scanners, ran several malware programs, and even asked my IT department. (They don't care cause IE works and their stupid "virus scan" was clean. I mean it took 30 seconds. What the hell did it actually scan?)
Surely there's a keyword or something that I'm missing that needs to be reset so I can get my address bar searching again.

Current Firefox versions use the default search engine that is set in the search bar as well for searching via the location bar and on the about:home page.
You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extension (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance

• Hi! I downloaded a plug-in that slowed Firefox, even after I removed it. I reset Firefox, during reset my computer went black. Now it won't open. Help!

I downloaded a plug-in (add-on) from Facebook onto my toolbar and it made my entire computer run slowly. I disabled the add-on, removed the toolbar, and everything was still super slow. I went to troubleshooting and hit reset firefox. It was in the process of resetting and my screen went black. I thought it was just the screensaver but after pressing the space bar, screen did not return. I did a hard exit on my Mac and restarted my computer. On my desktop there is now a folder that says "Old Firefox Data". When I try to open firefox I get a message that says "your firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. I've tried to reinstall firefox as well, only to have the same result. Help!

• Why is the "Reset Firefox" button missing??

I have several FF preferences and add-on preferences that will not stay after a restart. I set them, but after I quite and restart FF, the old settings are back. I dutifully followed the mozilla support-site instructions and tried all options to fix the issue:
1) check for locked preferences--nope, not locked
2) User.js overides -- no such file
3) Reset Firefox to default -- not possible "reset" button is completely missing
I've used the reset several times, now, which was quite disheartening. But, it is very suspicious that I cannot find the reset button at all, now.
Someone seems to have asked this before, but the answer to just make a new profile was horrifying. Either this button is supposed to be there or it isn't. If it is supposed to be there, then this is an extremely serious security problem. Something is wrong and I must find out what. Why is this happening?

You only see the reset button on the "Help > Troubleshooting Information" page if you use the profile that is marked as Default=1 in the profiles.ini file.
If you do not have the "Reset" button then either use the Profile Manager to create a new profile or use the Profile Manager to start with the current default profile to get the reset button in Firefox.
