Cannot resize image

I opened up PSE 4.0 today and I resized an image and it said that it was resized (6x9 became 5x7, for example), but when I dragged it to my project, it was still the same size (not smaller)! Prior to today, it has always been the size that I wanted it to be. I have not changed anything in PSE so I am wondering if anyone knows how to fix this so I can resize images again.
Thanks so much!

Hey Erica,
You can resize the image using the move tool even after placing it in the project.

  • Cannot resize images after CS5 and CC updates

    I recently installed Photoshop CC and the CC app recently updated  both my own CS6 and CC. I find that I now cannot resize images using the  "image size" dialog. Any changes I try to make in dimension or  resolution are ignored. Has anyone else encountered this problem, or  does anyone have any info which will help me discover what I am doing  wrong? Before, I simply entered the resolution and size I wanted for the  image. Now I cannot .I have tried suggestion here: e.g., deleting pixels when cropping, etc., but nothing seems to work for me.

    Thank you, Mylenium. Just curious... the CS5 update was done before I had
    the CC app. Some CS6 updates were done before I joined the CC (the CS5 in
    my problem subject-line was a type--should have been CS6), and one through
    the cloud. CC, of course, was all updated through the cloud. Am I to
    understand that CC would have done something to my owned, personal version
    of CS5, which has the same problem?
    Not an auspicious beginning with the cloud if complete
    uninstalls/reinstalls are necessary right off the bat. I wonder how often
    this type of problem will occur using the cloud, which obviously now
    monitors my personal version of CS6, as well.

  • Cannot Resize Images in Elements 8

    Hi,
    I recently had my laptop stolen and I had to reinstall in Elements 8 on my new computer. Since then, I have unable to resize images. I go to Image -> Resize -> Image Size and the pixel dimensions box is grayed out and I am unable to change the pixel dimensions. The document size function works fine and is not grayed out.
    It's very odd and frustrating. Perhaps a simple fix, but I am totally stumped.
    Thank you for any assistance you can give.

    In order to change the pixel dimensions you must first turn on the Resample Image checkbox, since shedding or adding pixels necessarily involves resampling. Try it with that turned on.

  • Photoshop will not open/create new files, cannot resize images etc

    Hi to all.
    So I'll start with the basics; I am using Photoshop 7 (And yes, I am using it for a specific reason, I'm not interested in migrating to this new $1000 Creative Cloud rubbish), us Australians are getting ripped a new one and I'm happy with the $50 I paid for my copy years ago. (Please do not tell me the answer to my problems is to simply upgrade and go bankrupt. Again, I've been using 7 for a very long time without issue).
    I've been using 7 for almost a decade without issue. I stick with it because so far, it's done everything I need, has been reliable up to this point, and my plugins do not work properly with newer versions. I'm also running an older-spec system (Windows XP, 3gb ram etc) as I do a lot of work with older game engines, Source Engine etc.
    The issue I'm having doesn't appear to be Photoshop-7 specific however, there are many threads on this that have gone unanswered, and happen in CS3 etc and modern copies as well. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it to no avail. Basically, I cannot open files reliably with it.
    If I right click any image file in explorer and click "open with -> Photoshop", photoshop will launch, however it does not open the file. I double checked to ensure the file was not just opening offscreen, however it is definitely not opening at all (as the "close" option does not become available).
    If I launch photoshop manually, and click file -> open -> It will open that file, HOWEVER it will not open any more files after that.
    It also is very very fickle with simple commands, such as if I hit CTRL + T to go into transform mode and then try to rescale an image, I have to click and drag the corners at least 5-6 times before it will recognize that I am doing so, and it will also ignore the resize that I perform and snap back to normal. Sometimes I have to click things more than once to get them to register. This is not occurring with any other piece of software etc, so I've ruled out that it's an issue with my mouse.
    This has only been happening a day, and I cannot think of any particular system changes likely to result in this (ie no abnormal plugins installed recently, no major hardware or software changes). Unless my keyboard has a stuck key or something strange, I'm absolutely at a loss
    Is there anyone who can help me, or has heard of this issue?

    I am an idiot.
    I guess the scratch disk was full or something else. A simple reboot appears to have solved the problem. (I often have my system running for up to 48-64 hours at a time without reboots) as my workdays are around 36 hours at a time, so it could just be a memory constraint from XP.
    Hopefully this solves the issue for anyone else who encounters it. Reboot your pc once in a while, give it a clean slate of memory to work with.

  • Cannot resize images, textboxes, shapes, etc.

    When I try to resize a shape, a photo or a textbox or try to change the mask on an image, I cannot grab the handles of the box (except, just to make things frustrating, occasionally). Tables can be resized.
    Should I dig out the disk and reinstall and then upgrade the program or is there a simpler way to go?
    thanks for any help,

    It's quite possible that crashing corrupted the Pages preferences. There is no need to reinstall & reinstalling doesn't replace the preference file. Go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences & delete the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist & then restart Pages & see if the problem is fixed.

  • Suddenly cannot place image or resize file without losing resolution quality. Is this a bug?

    I have CS3 and have been using Photoshop for several years. Today I randomly encountered a problem I have never had before.
    I created a new file, 468 x 60 pixels with a resolution of 200. I then placed a file of a 4.95MB photo in this file. The size of the photo is quite large (resolution also 200)  and I should have had to resize it way down to fit in small 468 x 60 space I had.
    Instead, it placed the photo as a much smaller image, almost like a thumbnail of the original. When I went to resize the photo to make it larger, the resolution was terrible.
    So then I went to the original file of the photo, copied it, went back to the 468 x 60 file and pasted it. It pasted it as the true size, but when I decreased the size, the resolution went bad. How does that even make sense?
    So then I went back to the original file of the photo again and resized it down from there. The resolution went downhill again!
    I have tried this with multiple other photos and file sizes and dimensions. I cannot place any large photo file and keep its accurate dimensions/resolutions. I also cannot resize any photo down without losing pixel quality.
    The only thing weird that showed up right at the beginning of this whole process was that the pixel aspect ratio window kept popping up even before I'd open a file (it has been set to square).
    I have reset all PS preferences through ctrl-alt-shift. I have gone through the Adobe update process. I have done disk clean-up and cleared off nearly 10GB of room on my hard drive. I have restarted over and over. I have also tried this process in Illustrator and had no problems.
    Is this a bug? A memory problem? Never have I run into this issue before and I feel like I'm going crazy!

    You could make the top layer active and then Cmd-Shift-Option-E
    (stamp visible).
    Do the trim and crop and then delete the top layer afterwords.

  • Problem with getting resized image's bytes

    I've got a problem with getting correct bytes of a newly resized image. The flow is that I retrive an image from the filesystem. Due to the fact that it is large I resize it to a 50x50px thumbnail. I can display this thumbnail in #benchmark1 (see code below). Unfortunately something's wrong with my imageToBytes funtion which returns reasonably small size of image but is totally useless - I can't make an image of it anymore so at #benchmark2 the application either crashes or keeps freezing. I saved this byte array on my disk and tried to preview under Windows how does it look but I got a message "Preview unavailabe". I did some digging in the Internet and I supposed that it's because I don't use any jpg or png encoders to save the file. Actually I think that it's not the case, as the bytes returned from method imageToBytes look weird - I cannot even make a new image of them and display it without any saving in memory.
                                  byte[] bytes = FileHandler.readFile (
                                          FileHandler.PHOTOS_PATH, fileName);
                                  Image img2 = Image.createImage (bytes, 0, bytes.length);
                                  img2 = ImageHandler.getInstance ().resize (img2);
                                                    //#benchmark1
                                  bytes = ImageUtils.imageToBytes (img2);
                                  img2 = Image.createImage (bytes, 0, bytes.length);
                                                    //#benchmark2my imageToBytes function is as follows:
         public static byte[] imageToBytes (Image img)
              int[] imgRgbData = new int[img.getWidth () * img.getHeight ()];
              byte[] imageData = null;
              try
                   img.getRGB (imgRgbData, 0, img.getWidth (), 0, 0, img.getWidth (),
                           img.getHeight ());
              catch (Exception e)
              ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream ();
              DataOutputStream dos = new DataOutputStream (baos);
              try
                   for (int i = 0; i < imgRgbData.length; i++)
                        dos.writeInt (imgRgbData);
                   imageData = baos.toByteArray ();
                   baos.close ();
                   dos.close ();
              catch (Exception e)
              return imageData;
    I've run totally out of any idea what's wrong, please help!

    Hey Crawlie,
    Please note that simply writing int values into ByteArrayOutputStream will not suffice. Please have a look at the following conversion from int pixel value into byte[4]:
    public static final byte[] intToByteArray(int value) {
            return new byte[] {
                    (byte)(value >>> 24),
                    (byte)(value >>> 16),
                    (byte)(value >>> 8),
                    (byte)value
    }Good Luck!

  • Default Image Rendition or resize image automatically

    We use the column Rollup Image and have the blob cache enabled to use image rendition.
    Is it possible to use this publishing image column with a default rendition (not full size) so the user has not to choose the rendition (or cannot choose it)?
    Or what would be the best practise to get automatically resized Images? By publishing Image column or better by JavaScript?

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to you want to know about how to use PublishingRollupImage Column to display a default image rendition and how to get automatically resized images.
    Firstly, I suggest you can use the automatically resized in the rollup publishing image column. As the image renditions will choose for different device such as mobile phone, if they display as a default rendition, then it can't be enlarge if user want to
    see more clearly.
    About how to get automatically resized images, you can get image with RenditionID using Jquery.
    Here is a code snippert for your reference:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery/jquery-1.7.1.min.js" />
    <script type="text/javascript">
    $(document).ready(function() {
    $image = $(".article-content").find("img");
    $image.each(function (i) {
    var imagesrc = $(this).attr("src") + "?RenditionID=5";
    $(this).attr("src",imagesrc);
    </script>

  • I'm too bad in math! can't figure the correct function to resize   images

    This is driving me crazy, just becasue I don't have the
    logical brains it takes:
    I want to dynamically (PHP) resize images, according to a max
    width and max height parameters.
    What's giving me a problem is that max width and max height
    are not equal, AND the images should be
    resized only if their original size is too big:
    $max_width = 650;
    $max_height = 500;
    $size = getimagesize($image);
    $img_width = $size[0];
    $img_height = $size[1];
    Now how do I write a function that will resize images of any
    possible size, *only if they need to*,
    to fit in the maximum size *rectangle*?...
    I have tried for hours to get it right, and I am ending up
    with a function so full of conditionals
    and sub-sub-conditionals that I'm getting completely lost.
    I hope you can help, I'm sure it should be very simple...

    here's the solution. This will correctly and proportionally
    reduce image size according to ANY max
    width and max height, no matter what the difference between
    max width and max height:
    if(($width <= $max_width) && ($height <=
    $max_height)){
    // The image is the right size already
    $targetwidth = $width;
    $targetheight = $height;
    }else{
    // if width > height
    if($width >= $height){ // if height > width
    $targetwidth = $max_width;
    $targetheight = $targetwidth * ($height / $width);
    // here we must check again if reduced height is not still
    greater than max_height
    if($targetheight > $max_height){
    $targetheight = $max_height;
    $targetwidth = $targetheight * ($width / $height);
    }elseif($height > $width){ // if height > width
    $targetheight = $max_height;
    $targetwidth = $targetheight * ($width / $height);
    // here we must check again if reduced width is not still
    greater than max_width
    if($targetwidth > $max_width){
    $targetwidth = $max_width;
    $targetheight = $targetwidth * ($height / $width);

  • Problem to resize images

    Photoshop Elements 8.0
    iMac OSX 10.8.3 32 with GB memory
    1) PE see only 2010 MB RAM
    I understand this is limit in PE, is that correct? Will latest version of PE support more RAM?
    2) I cannot rezise images. It does not function: If I change "with" and/or "Hight" the "resolution" is modified as well. Saving the image shows the image as it was before trying to resize it.
    Also "Document size" does not show "pixels".
    I cannot de-select "constrain proportions" (or the other boxes).
    In general "resize does not function.
    I used PE on my previeus iMac - no problems there.
    I uninstalled it, and downloaded (PE 8) for my new iMac - but it does not work (as explained).
    Any suggestion?

    1. No, all versions of PSE are 32 bit applications and that's just how 32 bit applications are.
    2. If you want to change the pixel dimensions you must first turn on the Resample Image checkbox. Same for constrain porportions, since either of these involves changing the number of pixels in your image. It is usually a very bad idea to attempt to reshape an image by turning off constrain proportions. It will give you a distorted image, not a cropped one. Use the crop tool to crop.

  • I cannot resize the selected text and the object in Illustrator

    I am unable to resize the text and the object with transform tool. It resizes but half of it does not. and not that much i want.

    Ok so if i write some text and all the words are of different sizes and i have to resize it using the transform tool, i cannot resize it unto the size i want. e.g.. i wrote this text "The Big Bold Sale" all the words are of different sizes and are grouped together, so when i resize it using transform tool all these words are resized differently "The big" becomes big, "bold" becomes little smaller and "sale" is not resized.. the image is attached.

  • Safari option to resize image to fit window?

    This item has come up here before, but seems to always fizzle out. Did anyone ever find a plugin for Safari that would resize images so that they fit in the browser window?
    The problem is when you try to view pictures that are larger than the screen size, I would like to be able to have my Safari browser automatically resize them to fit the screen. MS Internet Explorer has this feature and I have gotten used to it!

For some reason this does not work (the image is no longer visible).
    Can anybody tell me how to achieve my goal?
    This is a workaround. What's your real goal? Why do you want to do this?
    What browser(s)/version(s) are you using? All current browser versions have support for CSS3 background sizing which is the proper way to do this.

  • Which approach to use for resizing image

    There are two ways of resizing images as I know:
    1. image.getScaledInstance(width,height,hint);
    Using hint like Image.SCALE_AREA_AVERAGING gives somehwat satisfactory resizing.
    2. static BufferedImage resize(GraphicsConfiguration gc, BufferedImage source, int w, int h, Object hintValue) {
    BufferedImage result = gc.createCompatibleImage(w, h, source.getTransparency());
    Graphics2D g2 = result.createGraphics();
    g2.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_INTERPOLATION, hintValue);
    double sx = (double) w / source.getWidth(), sy = (double) h / source.getHeight();
    g2.drawRenderedImage(source, AffineTransform.getScaleInstance(sx, sy));
    g2.dispose();
    return result;
    where the hint passed is RenderingHints.VALUE_INTERPOLATION_BILINEAR ;
    Now which of the two method method should I use-using image.getScaledInstance() or using AffineTranform ? opr is there any other way which is faster but provides good result?
    i am creating an image editor, so the GUI dialog will have oprtion to choose the algorithm. I want the method which provides better result yet faster.
