I use to back up my Iphone before Update
After The IOS being update, i right click my Iphone icon in ITune and click 'Restore from backup"
Itune straight pop up 'restoring Iphone from backup estimate time..." without asking for password

I never keyin a password, where should I keyin or change this 'incorrect' password?
I try to click the change passsword for the 'Encript Iphone Backup" it will start working to backuo after i keyin password.
How can I restore my iphone from the backup file?

If you don't know the password to the encrypted backup file, you can't restore from that backup.  Simple.  There's absolutely no way around this.

I too have experienced the "blame everything but Apple products/software" indoctrination of the Apple phone support techs!
I have a feeling that iTunes automatically switches encryption on and puts as default a previous iTunes store password but as I don't leave mine the same all the time (and don't feel the need to remember historic passwords that I'm not using to secure anything against) I have no clue what it is.
Good luck trying to get useful advice on here relating to the issue, it will go along the lines of...
    1) Its your fault for setting it and forgetting the password,
    2) We know everything and theres definately no way iTunes would set backups to encrypt without your knowledge and...
    3) Theres no fix for this issue, you might be able to save some of your data, but most will be lost (unless you specifically ask for an iTunes redownload exemption/ token then your purchases could be lost too).

  • How can I restore my iPhone 4's iOS5 backup without restoring iOS if the option to "Restore from Backup" doesn't appear when I right click it in the device list?

(Lengthy question, I know Let me explain.)
A few days ago, I decided to clear out the music on my computer. So, I copied everything out of iTunes to my external hard drive (podcasts, music, movies, tv shows, books, and apps) and deleted all that I could find, including the iTunes folder. I forgot that the iTunes library files were in there, and those went too; unsurprisingly, I was greeted with an empty library when I next opened iTunes.  After adding all my files back from my external hard drive, everything's all good there - no lost files, everything seems fine. However, since my library is a "new" library, iTunes wishes to erase everything on my iPhone 4. Which is also fine, for everything except my apps.  I'd really rather not lose all my application settings and data that are saved in my backup.  But, I cannot just "Restore from Backup" by right-clicking my device in the list in iTunes, so... I haven't synced my iPhone since I did this, so all of my data is still on there, but it's in the backup as well.  If I have to erase all iTunes content, I definitely have to be able to restore the backup over it since I don't want to lose all my settings and Springboard layout.  I'd prefer not to restore iOS because I don't want to go from iOS5 to 5.0.1, nor do I have 8 hours to download the IPSW file on my super-speedy internet connection   Any guidance on restoring my iPhone from its backup?

Here's an interesting bit: iTunes will let me restore my iPod touch from backup: it's still running iOS 4.3.3. I figured as much... there's backups showing in the Preferences -> Devices list for both devices (and even my old, long gone iPod touch 2G), but my iPhone (on iOS5) isn't giving me any such option. I remember I had to downgrade before to get the backup restored (something went haywire in the setup assistant, and I couldn't restore a backup from iTunes there)... If it was possible to go to iOS 5.0 rather than 5.0.1 I would just do the same thing again, but iOS 5.0.1 isn't an option. I attached a screenshot. Hopefully Apple can get this nonsense sorted out; I think iOS 5 might be the root of this, somehow.

  • Iphone 5 cannot restore from backup - help

I believe I have tried everything humanly possible. My iphone 5 was having issues where it was not receiving responses to group texts. It was recommended that I do a restore. I backed up via icloud first. I double checked to make sure I have more than one backup available. I usually save out my photos before restore but didn't do it this time and I regret it. My daughter's pics from her birthday (5/5) are on there and I'm afraid now I'll never get them.
These are the things I've tried:
tried restoring from all backups listed (many times)
    apple replaced my iphone
tried accessing photos from photostream, didn't know about this till apple guy setup as new phone and made me enter my icloud. Think that may have wiped the photos I did have in there.
tried reserving static ip - think I did that right
looked into QoS but my time capsule doesn't support that
tried from multple wifi spots (3 spots)
tried dhcp reservation - think I did that right
apple guy checked that backups were there and ok, they were
    Errors I've received:
At first I received, lost connection when it was almost done
After a while the error I get now is "cannot restore backup"
Always fails in the same spot, 85%
The first time I blindly trust icloud to do it's job it fails. Obviously lesson learned. All I want is my daughter's pics...I'm ok losing everything else. I just can't believe I can't download my icloud backup to my computer and restore that way. All 3 stored backups have failed, I know I probably have more.
My next step is to call apple support, but I fear I'm SOL.
Anyone have any ideas? Willing to try anything.
    Thanks in advance!

Sorry to say my friend, but any second you going to lose from that moment on is a lost second. I d like to wish you luck and after all said and done - get back here and tell me if I was wrong. BTW if those were text group messages, your phone was never a problem.

    I've upgraded my Iphone 4S from 5.1.1 to 6.1.
Backed it up before the upgrade and now that I want to restore my stuff it tells me that the backup is corrupt or not compatible.
    Itunes on latest version.
    windows 7.
Yes I've made a full restore of the phone ...
    What should I do?
can't just start over ... had lots of important stuff on the backup.

  • My iPhone's "Other" capacity has suddenly jumped to 56G out of 64G. Yes, you read that right. Every time I try to sync to recalculate, it gets worse! Please help! Can't even restore from backup now, since my backup is all "other"!

I have fully up-to-date everything on my iPhone and computer and iTunes. I have an iPhone5 and MacBook Pro. I synced my iPhone this morning and it has 12 or so gigs of free space (even with my music and some photos on it). Then I deleted some voice memos in iTunes, and wanted to sync again to reclaim the space. When I tried, it said I had 29G of "other" data and that my phone was way over capacity and can't sync. I tried a few online solutions to force it to recalculate, but now it says it is about 90% "other"!! Only 8G of 64G free, and "other" is the ONLY thing in the summary bar.
I un-checked music for syncing, thinking that must be the problem. It did not help.  Now there is nothing on my phone except "other", according to iTunes (not even photos).
I cannot restore from backup now, since the backup includes the giant "other". I don't want to delete my info on my phone knowing a corrupted backup is my only alternative.
    Help!

Thanks so much Meg. Unfortunately, iTunes is the program I use to perform syncing. I don't really have other outside options. It is also the location of the backup I would use to restore my phone, and my only way to reclaim important data. I am concerned that, since the last backup occurred when the "other" bar was only moderately huge (around 29G I think), that a backup would replicate the problem back onto my phone.
My contacts, etc. are all in address book and the calendar app on my Mac.  As far as I know, iTunes is the way to get them back, but iTunes is where the problem is.
    Any thoughts on this?

  • Can I select or deselect what all is restored from backup? Not enough space

I was low on space. Did a backup in itunes. Deleted a bunch of stuff and was having trouble restoring so I did a software upgrade. I didn't have enough room to do the software upgrade before deleting all my stuff. Now that I have updated the software, I cannot restore from backup. Is there anyway to deselect some items to be restored? I would like my messages back. I can manually put pics and songs back on. Thanks for your help.

yes you could exclude the system folders and whatever else you want.
If you have space on your external drive, I would recommend letting it back up everything. If something did happen, you could restore your whole system much more easily that way. All you would have to do is insert and boot off the Leopard install DVD and follow the menu's to restore your machine from a Time Machine Backup.
If you don't backup your entire drive (including the system folders, etc). then you would have to reinstall Leopard, reinstall all your applications, and then restore your files from your time machine backup.

  • My iPad2 won't restore from backup

    HELP!
I have just updated my iPad2 for the first time to the latest update. I bought it in Dec 2011 and it is now May 2014.
I pressed 'Restore from Backup' but it just continues to keep on going through the same process continuously. I can quickly see all the updated info on my screen momentarily but then that screen disappears and  it goes back to screen that asks for
    'Language'
    'Country'
'Choose a Wifi Network' and then
it automatically goes to 'Set Up iPad'
from here, I have chosen 'Restore from iTunes Backup', and also have the USB cable connected to the iPad
It then comes up with "Connect to iTunes" which I have now done for the 5th time
I then go back to 'File', 'Devices',  'Restore from Back Up'
I know that all the info has been backed up and is on my computer and I can also see it on my computer.
Frustratingly, I have only twice seen the screen momentarily where it has the updated versions of apps, etc on the screen but when I try to click into anything, it goes straight back to the whole process of restoring from back up again.
I have rebooted my iPad2 a few times in between as well, thinking that was the problem.
    Please help.

I have just redone the whole process again as
    Set Up as new iPad
I was worried that I would lose everything but it seems to have some stuff on there.  Not quite sure what is missing but I am happy that I can at least use it.
    Thanks anyway

  • How to get password for itunes in order to restore from backup?

Original PC crashed and is now dead. I'm now using a different laptop. I De-Authorized all PC's from ITunes accoun, authorized the laptop and I connected my 3Gs to do the IOS update. I am now locked out of my phone. ITunes is on the "set up your iPhone" screen. A message states "This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or another iOS device." I select "Restore from the backup" selection and I am asked to enter a password. I don't know the password and now I can't use my Phone. What needs to be done to fix this?

    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

My iPhone has crashed during a sync and now I can't restore from backup as it is asking for password to load the backup yet neither the lock code for the phone or my iTunes Password are working... I have no other password to call upon and need the restore to retrieve info onto my phone, I am a real novice to this...... please help, !!!!

If anyone else is looking for a solution to this same problem, I was able to get it working looking through several older discussions.
The solution was to use the password that I had on my iTunes account the very first time I set up the iPhone about a year ago.  I changed my iTunes password about 10 months ago;  but apparently, the backups continue to use the password that existed when the phone was first set up.
A couple of troubling things with this are that 1) I didn't apply a password when I did the backup this afternoon so I don't understand why it was required when I did the restore a few hours later. and 2) it makes zero sense why iTunes would not be smart enough to use the current accout password when requiring the password to restore from a backup made with no password.
I thought iTunes and Apple were smarter than that.  With so many posts stating exactly the same problem, it is clear that this is bug in the software.
    Best,
    Craig

I tried to restore backup from itune to my new iphone 5s but have forgotten the password what should I do?

    JennyGEL wrote:

    Which password?
If you mean the passcode to your iPhone, here's the solution:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212
If you mean the encryption password to your backup on your computer:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

  • What can I do, iPad disabled/lockout and iTunes keeps asking for password, I cannot restore...iTunes grays out backup and restore but my iPad and iPod shows on Apple etc..

What can I do, iPad disabled/lockout and iTunes keeps asking for password, I cannot restore...iTunes grays out backup and restore but my iPad and iPod shows on Apple etc..???

Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    2. Connect USB cable to computer, leave the other end alone
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad
