Cannot restore from previous backups

Hi,
I stupidly restored my iphone to original settings earlier.
I am now trying to use one of several backups however, itunes will not let me choose them when i choose to restore from backup...
Please advise what is wrong and how i can save my iphone!
Thanks

Ah, in which case you have no backups to go back to ....
As I briefly mentioned earlier, every new backup event overwrites the previous one. When you mistakenly reset the device, you must have allowed it to do a backup before restoring it and so that backup overwrote your previous backup.
Unless you have any hard disc backups, you may have lost the lot.
Paid Apps can be downloaded again for free though and you should still have your iTunes library to resync as new though.

  • Iphone 5 won't restore from previous backup

I can't get my phone to restore from a previously synced version. I restored my phone thinking I could fix another issue  (text messages not deleting) and now I have a phone that won't restore. I run through all the processes to restore and the phone restarts just like iTunes tells me it will do and then it starts all over again. I have tried this at least 10 times with the same results.

I have the same problem. I upgraded iphone 5 to iOS 7.02 and it went into recovery mode so I had to restore to factory settings. After that it gave me the option to set up as new phone or restore from backup. When I chose restore from backup, everything seems to work fine then it restarts and apple logo comes on and bar underneath never loads/advances. It never gives an error message. So at this point my only option seems to be set it up as a new phone. Very frustrating. Did you ever find a fix for this?
Note: I've tried restoring from both itunes and icloud backup.

  • Problem restoring from previous backup

I tried to upgrade my 3GS to IOS5 but something went wrong part way through. Although I now have IOS 5 the phone has been wiped. I took a backup before I started and have tried to restore to that but it says now that the backup is either corrupt or not compatible with the phone! As part of this process I had to start the upgrade again and it took a later backup which I guess is not worth using at all. I would like to restore from an earlier backup than the two that it is giving me options for. How do I do this?
Also of concern is the well over a thousand photos that I had on my iphone - how do I now retrieve these?

    Graig,
Try backing all the way out to the "Welcome" screen and then proceed forward again and see if it see backups now.
Also, if the drive had gone to sleep or spun down before you got to the point of choosing a backup disk, that might explain it. Try backing out to the "Welcome" screen again, switch the external drive OFF wait 10 seconds, and switch it back ON. Now proceed with the install.
Let us know if this helps.
    Cheers!

  • Cannot restore after Windows Backup

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate.
After creating a number of backups on on an external disc I thought that I had better try to restore  from that backup.
I tried several times, I completely cleared the backup files from my external disc and after choosing the backup to
restore from I received the following massage:-
"The restore did not complete successfully
Restore encountered a problem while validating the zip file:
    \\?\Volume{127767ee-d6b7-11e1-a888-0026b9cf5b2e}\SPY-PC\Backup Set
    2012-07-24 130658\Backup Files 2012-07-24 130658\Backup Files 1.zip
The following information might help you resolve the problem:
The backup file could not be found. Make sure the drive that the backup is
saved on is attached or try to restore from a different backup. (0x8100001A)"
I can find no answer to this problem.
    HELP
    Bill

Sorry perhaps I didn't make myself clear. I
am not trying to restore the files saved on my old external drive.
-> If so, what is the relevance of you mentioning the destroyed disk?
I have made a backup to a new external disc and cannot restore from that backup. I am not trying
to restore the files saved on my old external drive.
-> If so then this new disk must have a drive letter which brings us back to the very start of this thread: Does
    the file
    X:\SPY-PC\Backup Set 2012-07-24 130658\Backup Files 2012-07-24 130658\Backup Files 1.zip
exist on your external disk? (Replace X: with the correct drive letter)

new iPad air. set it as new device. asked in itunes to restore from previous older iPad backup. it's not restored\i'm asked to do it agagin and again, in loop
tried defining the iPad as new - the same problem. started it in recovery mode - the same

    The definition of insanity.....
Does it ask for the old device by name?  How do you know it isn't restored?   Have you completed setup and checked on the device?
Are you using the same iTunes account and Apple ID?
On your iTunes account, Open preferences, go to devices tab
Look in the box for a backup of your old device.    Is there a backup?
If there is no backup, you have nothing to restore.

  • I previously had an iTouch, now a new iPhone. Setup as new iPhone, or restore from iTouch backup?

I previously had an iTouch (3rd generation - 32 GB), now I have a new iPhone 4S. During the beginning of the setup process in iTunes, after reegistering the new iPhone with APPLE, when I am asked to set it up as new iPhone, or to restore it from my previous iTouch backup, which do I choose? It isn't clear to me, and I can't find the answer anywhere.
If I choose to set it up as a new iPhone, will I lose all my apps and all my previous settings (and start over)?
My computer is a MacBook laptop.

If you set up it as new, you will lose the settings, but not your apps. You can try to restore from the backup because you will recover your settings and your apps automatically

  • I downloaded the new iphoto to my macbook pro. Now when I open it, there is a message telling me that "your photo library is damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened. Please restore from a backup." What do I do I had 16,000 pictures.....PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Try download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphone 5 cannot restore from backup - help

I believe I have tried everything humanly possible. My iphone 5 was having issues where it was not receiving responses to group texts. It was recommended that I do a restore. I backed up via icloud first. I double checked to make sure I have more than one backup available. I usually save out my photos before restore but didn't do it this time and I regret it. My daughter's pics from her birthday (5/5) are on there and I'm afraid now I'll never get them.
These are the things I've tried:
tried restoring from all backups listed (many times)
    apple replaced my iphone
tried accessing photos from photostream, didn't know about this till apple guy setup as new phone and made me enter my icloud. Think that may have wiped the photos I did have in there.
tried reserving static ip - think I did that right
looked into QoS but my time capsule doesn't support that
tried from multple wifi spots (3 spots)
tried dhcp reservation - think I did that right
apple guy checked that backups were there and ok, they were
    Errors I've received:
At first I received, lost connection when it was almost done
After a while the error I get now is "cannot restore backup"
Always fails in the same spot, 85%
The first time I blindly trust icloud to do it's job it fails. Obviously lesson learned. All I want is my daughter's pics...I'm ok losing everything else. I just can't believe I can't download my icloud backup to my computer and restore that way. All 3 stored backups have failed, I know I probably have more.
My next step is to call apple support, but I fear I'm SOL.
Anyone have any ideas? Willing to try anything.
    Thanks in advance!

Sorry to say my friend, but any second you going to lose from that moment on is a lost second. I d like to wish you luck and after all said and done - get back here and tell me if I was wrong. BTW if those were text group messages, your phone was never a problem.
