Cannot Restore iPad2 - Error Code 3173?

Never had an issue with an Apple product before.
Windows 7 Home Premium
iTunes 10.5.0.142
iPad 4.3.5
Attempted to update iPad software to 5.0 and got the error code "cannot restore iPad - error code 3173"
Freaked out and disconnected the iPad and it seems fine, no data/information loss and it DID NOT update as it is still running version 4.3.5.
No other external USB ports in use, never had an issue updating previously.
Thoughts/ideas/fix? Seems like a lot of people are posting asking for help with this but I don't see a fix anywhere.

Good idea. I wish I had waited. My iPad2 will not Restore so it is hammered. My iPhone 3Gs is updating now so we'll see. But this is definately an Appple problem as all 5 devices at our house had one issue or another. My iPad2 fails with the unrelated error 1162. The USB driver does not install. For my iPhone 3Gs, the USB driver installed and the update is nearly complete. Oh, it's backing up now. I'll just have to see if it works but it is going much better than our iPads. The iPads seem to be the big issue.

HT1414 phone is in recovery mode but cannot restore with error code 21,26

After my latest update on my iPhone 4 my phone started just shutting down and restarting by itself. I have tried to restore the phone with the latest version of iTunes but now get the error message that iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode. Well that's fine, I selected recovery and when it appears that the recovery mode is going to go through the recovery mode returns an error code.
The first code I received is the error 1656, then a 26, then the final attempt I got an error code 21.
This phone has never been dropped, mishandled, or taken any physical damage. It was working great before I attempted to update.
Please if anyone else has experienced this let me know how you resolved these errors.
I have attempted every trouble-shooting step indicated on the Apple support site.

These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.

Itouch 2gen cannot restore -- No error code given

I acquired an ipod touch last week and it has been a blast from the first day. Until a couple of hours ago when it froze and apparently crashed.
the ipod was turned off, i turned it on and as soon as i got to the main window it froze, i then rebooted the ipod, however it showed up the usb screen asking me to connect it to itunes, in itunes it said that my ipod was in recovery mode and needed to be restored, and so i did, it downloaded, started to installed, on the ipod the progress bar got to full and then it never got out of it(itunes gives no error only "waiting for ipod")...
What is more strange is that i tried every method written here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1173682 and it still wont budge. i looked at the logs and it goes thru all the processes until

Apparently there is no way to solve this problem, apple support was unable to identify the problem through software so therefore the only solution is hardware repair or substitution, if this happens to you your best choice is to contact apple support and send your ipod in.

so my i pad 2 is curently in "disabled mode" i need to restore it. it had not been able to restore i have traed to hold the home buttin and the power button and i download the new firmware and when i tunes said "varifing my ipad " it than said " a interuption has accoued and can not restore i pad". do i have to conect it to the preavace computer that i sinked to???? can you help me?????

Actually usually it happens when itunes is not up to date or not compatible with that iOS.
michaelamoore11 - If you are trying to restore and you had iOS 7 on it, make sure that your itunes is up to date with 11.1 or you will get that message. Once you update, then you can restore

I tried to charge my iPod Touch 5th generation but it died while charging and it was tuning and it said i had to connect to iTunes so i did and i had to restore it to use it and while restoring an error code (9) appered and i can't use it. Plz help

   So I was using my iPod Touch 5th generation and the charger wouldnt charge it and it died then while it was in the process of tuening back on the apple logo dissapeered and it kept on turning on and off so i put it into DFU mode and it said to plug it into itunes to i did and it said i had to restore it to use it but when i tried to restore it it brought up ," Couldnt restore ipod, error code (9) " ..... and i have tried 3 different USB cables and two different computers and USB ports and i have no clue what to do so i would like help from anyone please that would be awesome!!!!

HP recovery could not restore computer error code 0xe0ef000e

I bought a nice Solid State drive. Unfortunately it is not possible to upgrade my system to new hard drive. It fails every time with HP recovery could not restore computer error code 0xe0ef000e. This is after removing everything... graphics card, ram, cd drive... nothing is plugged in except the keyboard, monitor and mouse.
Windows 8 strikes again. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to actually use the recovery disks to reinstall windows 8 onto a new solid state drive. I hate this computer and wish I would have never bought it actually. It's been nothing but crap from day one.

It's the HP 500-023w desktop. I ended up just buying a Winodws 8.1 OEM disk and installing that on the SSD. The recovery tool is a bit useless. Reading through various forum posts it seems I would have ended up spending hours trying to figure it out or else buying the recovery disks from HP. Just paying $89 for an OEM disk is a good deal by comparison since at the very least the computer has no bloatware on it now.
What a hugely unnecessary hassle really. Now if only I could get this heap of junk to boot with a PCI-e graphics card installed I might actually be able to use it with two monitors. Good grief.

I try to launch Flash. I've been using just fine for a while
and all I get is this:

However at the logon screen I seem to be encountering further errors, I have attempted to logon on, the dialog box does not appear, details from the logon screen are as follows:
