Cannot restore iphone and can't re-load itunes
I have a 3g iphone and as I haven't updated it for a while, connected to itunes and accepted the software update 3.1.3. It froze during the update (on the apple logo screen) which forced me to reset the phone (holding down the home and on/off button as advised on here).
I then tried to restore the phone but was getting error 14 (could not restore). Again I looked on here for the solution - turned off my security settings, tried a different USB etc. I then read a further solution to uninstall itunes and all it's components, which I did. Now I can't reinstall itunes on my main laptop (Windows 7) as it's saying digital signature is not verified - although it was fine when I first bought the laptop a month ago. Again I read that the solution was to install via firefox. I downloaded firefox and then tried itunes again. 1st was told that I needed the 64 bit installer. Then tried this but nothing happens when I click on run.
I have also tried on my sons netbook and again am getting erroer 14 when trying to restore. I am now left with a phone that shows the itunes logo and USB on the display screen and can't do anything.

The main problem i have is that the phone wont power on unless it is plugged in on charge. (Hold down power and home, let go of power then it goes into a certain mode which it will let it restore then connect to itunes.) My problem is that to do this i have to be connected to itunes to get it to this stage.
the battery isnt the problem I have been told as the previous owner said they had replaced the battery already to see if that was the problem but it clealy wasnt.
If anyone can help me to restore this phone or tell me if I need to just take it to a repare shop. If there is a simple way of doing it myself and saving about £100 I would love to hear it!!!Ing238 wrote:

This relates to an earlier question I asked: I have an iPhone and can send messages to a galaxy, but the person cannot receive them; however, I can receive messages from the galaxy. I have only had an iPhone so the problem does not relate to a change in phones. Up until about 1month ago I could send to the galaxy and they could be read. Help!

I just exchanged a faulty iPhone 4 for a new one, when I got home to restore it, iCloud says "cannot restore backup". Can somebody please help provide much needed advice? Thanks in advance!
Yep, that's the only message that popped out. Nothing else. Yes, it's running on the latest ios and I still can't restore it. I called apple and they told me it's probably something wrong with their servers. Anyway thanks for the advice.

If the iPhone is running iOS 7, activation lock included with iOS 7 will prevent someone from restoring the iPhone or completing the process.
If the iPhone can be restored, it cannot be restored from the iPhone's backup - only as a new iPhone or not from the backup. -

A Restore first downloads a new copy of iOS to your computer. On a slow Internet connection this can take a long time. How fast is your connection? How long would you expect it to take to download 900 MB?
That's assuming nothing is interfering with the download. Some firewalls and antivirus programs will block the download or slow it down. So you should temporarily disable your security software. Security software can also block the update after the iOS download is complete. -
Does anyone know what "other" means in the sync summary bar? I have 850mb using storage space in my iphone and can't understand what that is. I have tried to delete everything, restore to factory settings and change the icloud account. Thanks.

I had a similar issue and I was told that my iTunes match was on.
I had to disable iTunes match on my iPhone.
Following which - after you plugged in your iPhone to iTunes, select your iPhone on iTunes menu. You should see a summary page of your iPhone where it provides options to update or restore. On the bottom there should be an option to select "sync only selected music/playlists". I can't remember the exact wording. Once that's been checked, select your iPhone's music tab and it should allow you to select the music playlists you want to sync. -
Cannot restore iPhone 4 after IOS 5 update
So i updated my phone last night and it said that it needed to be resotred so I did, but just before it finished, it did not complete it and now will not restore at all. Keeps coming up with Error (1). My best suggest is with error 1 is to make sure that your security software on your comptuer is temporarily disabled. That's very common with itunes restore errors- and more specifically with that errror code. If you can't get it to restore after disabling it...you can try another computer to restore and then bring it back to your original comptuer to sync or restore from you backup.
All else fail with that contact Apple Technical support at 1-800-694-7466 With further instructions. But they will definitely ask you about that security software.... -

Restore from previous backup, be sure use the same iTunes and account you used to store your stuff into your device.

Well anyways, sounds like it's in recovery mode. You'll need to perform a restore through iTunes on the computer. -
